How 2 root epic 4g the easy way? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm a noob wit a epic 4g, wat I've learned so far I've got from randy on youtube by the way much tnks randy, anyway dis is my delema I was on froyo 2.2 an 4 sum reason I could not get the 1click root 2 work so I odin back to eclair 2.1 so I could get z4root & try it tat way it says I'm rooted & I see the superuser icon but when I boot up to recovery its the same and the app store is thbe same I still have 2 pay 4 apps is there sum tin I'm doing wrong or is there an easyer way to do this I have a lot of rom's I want to try can anybody help me with this tnks in advance.

It sounds like you have some misconceptions. Rooting doesn't give you the new recovery. The one-click does both root and recovery. Z4root just roots. Also, root access doesn't make market apps free.
And the easiest way to do it is the one-click.

Ok tnks 4 clarifing my misconception of the z4root but should I via odin back 2 froyo & find an easy 1click root & CWM 2 boot up to my epic 4g or is there sum tin I'm doing wrong here

I'm new to the Evo. (Q) about rooting and recovery.

Im not new to XDA tho, I've been on the Epic forums for a few years. But I couldn't take the lack of support the Epic has. So i just traded in my Epic today and I was wondering what the best, most stable way to root, and install a custom recovery on my Evo. Also, I'm not new to flashing, or adb shell. I know there's a few different ways to root, and install a custom recovery, so I'd be very grateful for someone to point me in the right direction. I heard that the Evo forums are the best at XDA. Thanks so much for your help.

We haz some good people here.
Easiest method is to use unrevoked; download the hboot drivers, install then uninstall htc sync, enable usb debugging on phone, then run the program.
For recovery, it'll come with clockwork [unrevoked flashes it], you can then switch to amon_ra if you wish via PC36IMG file; both can be found in the development section.
And welcome, be wary of the trolls, don't feed them.
If ur phone has the newest software (2.3) on it then u r SOL. If ur are still on stock 2.2 then just run unrevoked or look for the auto-root thread and follow that.

if you are using Gingerbread (software 4.22.651.2 or the new OTA: 4.24.651.1), there is no method of root just yet.
but if you are running FroYo (3.70.651.1) you are in luck
the method i used was this: [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - Goodbye Stranger - Upd. 02.25.11 - xda-developers
but you can use any of the ones that are in the stickies in the Development section
after you are rooted, I highly recommend using Amon_RA recovery (and so do most on xda lol) follow the instructions in this thread: [Recovery] [09-Feb-2011] RA-supersonic-v2.3 - xda-developers
hope this helps you out. and welcome to the rEVOlution!!
I got 2.2 on my phone. Thanks very much for the help guys/girls. So what would happen if I had 2.3, instead of 2.2?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You would have a locked bootloader that couldn't be rooted since there is no root method yet glad you still have 2.2

I came from your exact situation and I can tell you this THIS PHONE IS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more supported and FIXES are HERE! and not in the works =P like the (EPIC)
I'll answer your questions with what I did and also point out that the method I have used for root isn't the most recommended way.
Unrevoked is what used to root do it at your own risk people say, my response(It works for me) ALSO YOU CAN'T ROOT IF YOUR ALREADY on Gingerbread =/ so if you are you gotta wait till they figure out how to root it.
Also I came from an epic i KIND OF FELL in love with Miui rom on the EPIC EVEN WITH ITS bugs, battery on Miui is amazing I also love having just 1 homescreen with 3 folders of apps(tools,Misc/Games/Navigation) BW clock so easy to find what I need and the app management and ect is so fluid even settings menu and all menus for that matter ARE FAST and the built in explorer app is fantastic... try miui for evo u wont regret it my man!
flash amon ra recovery! dont use clockwork its buggy sometimes
if you need detailed instructions i dont have them in front of me and im not a big fan of XDA's search it kind of sucks NO OFFENSE but the filtering process needs work it should be like the forum.mobilisim.org BY FAR THE BEST SEARCH PROCESS! always gets me what I want in 1 search
Definitely try MIUI rom its the best its very sexy
I actually had like six girls tell me my phone was sexy

Intercept Root Apk and Recovery flasher

:-D
Finally, there is an App that can Get you permanent root on Samsung Intercept (Both Virgin Mobile and Sprint versions). It does not need PC, USB cable or USB Drivers. You can get Root as well as install CM01 Custom Recovery using this App.
Thanks to spaztecho from SDX Developers.

Epic.
Many thanks for the link! I had rooted my Intercept via the Samsung driver method and a windows PC - for the life of me my girlfriend's identical Intercept would not root using that method.
This worked like a charm. Easy as hell. One click, you got root - no external PC, no issues.
Thank you so much for posting this!
thanks
all good for me. Me funsiono todo a la perfeccion. por finnnnnnnnnnn.

Still using stock VM 2.2 rom after rooting - used root toolbox to kill a lot of the annoying apps that are included with the rom, installed a decent ad blocker - worries about trying a custom ROM - I rely on being able to tether my Intercept via wifi and don't want to risk messing up my 3g signal.
Give me a shout if you find a good ROM?
This apk is the bomb. It works! A good one to keep on the SD card just in case.
Unrooting?
Is there a way to unroot after this process, in case of damage?
Yes there is. I use my intercept for fun and development, and i have tried and successfully UN-rooted the device.
Search unroot Samsung intercept on Google. I remember the sdx forums had a tutorial.

[Q] How to Root

I just used the "SuperOneClick root" to root my phone, but the application did not respond and just didn't work. And i also tried downloading Z4root but it says my phone is not compatible. So can anyone tell me an easy way on how to root this phone safely.?
for EI22 Gingerbread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwFRzzIqouE
Thanks to qbking77.
Im really new to all of this so..... is there any easier way to just root my phone?
One click roots do not work on Gingerbread. You have to use Odin or Heimdall.

What part do you not understand? I could help t walk you through it I just rooted my epic a few nights back and have had almost every samsung android phone.
Samsung, u need odin to root the epic. No other way around it. When they released 2.3.5, they added a patch in the script so rooting would not stick. In qbkings video, he shows u and gives u the files to help the rooting stick. Z4root are for lower end phones.

[Q] Scared to root. Justified?

My GSII is running stock 2.3.6. I lost root after the update , so the old root method wont work. I want root but I HATE! HATE! HATE! ODIN. (can't even count how many times iv'e bricked my vibrant and GS4G.) I know what i'm doing ive been rooting since my cliq! I have never had any issues with htc devices. (I think rooting and such is easy as long as you read instructions, ask questions if your not sure, and NEVER do anything that can't be found under your device on xda. )
Reading around XDA Iv'e seen threads where people say clockwork doesn't work right or normal reboots caused hard brick. and it's freaking me out! I don't event want to risk soft brick. Should i just get it over with and root now or wait for development to pick up and get the bugs worked out?.....Because I don't know what i would do if i lost my (second) favorite device of all time.
Root using odin. Takes 2 seconds. I never had a samsung before or used odin before, so I went to android monsters in austin and had my buddy do it. But, the info in the sticky is what he used and it worked great.

I forgot how I did it but is easier than rooting and unlocking the bootloader on a Nexus One that's for sure.
its easier than newer htc phones. just use a the updated superuser apk wit root
Maybe it's just me, but how can you dislike a simple program so much that you refuse to use it to root a phone? From my own experience, it's quick, easy and painless. It's as simple as flashing ClockworkMod Recovery and Superuser with Odin. I've yet to have any issues with Odin and even if you did mess something up, you have all the resources here to get back up and going again with stock - that's what backups are for. There is no reason not to root your phone if you're at least somewhat tech savvy and have a reason to do so.
I think ODIN would be the best tool in the android world if it were more stable. For example something as simple as flashing back to stock on a custom rom-ed vibrant took me 3 tries with all the right files and I know its not my computer, used mine then a friends. I think I have a phobia of the phone to computer screen or yellow triangle lol

But my main question is, Are the dangers worth the benefits with this phone? Im just scared because I got it for Christmas and Im in high school. If i brick Im pretty much S.O.L, I could never afford one and don't wanna go back to an HD2 haha

I couldn't own a phone without root. Too many apps that need it, and too much bloat. Stock vs. how my phone is now, rooting and flashing a custom ROM is 100% worth it.
I rooted with superoneclick on 2.3.5. Does superoneclick work with 2.3.6?
IMHO there's no point in flashing superuser via cwm..... just flash a custom rom instead. Mr x has a 2.3.6 rom you can flash.

Flash recovery. Once recovery is good to go, its near impossible to break the phone just make a nandroid of your stock ROM and store it safley somewhere. Have fun flashing :-D

Congrats on the new phone.... the easiest way that i came across with is with qbking77's method... He guides you and explains fully for a easy root.... Once rooted and think you need a change, you must try stunnersteve's ROM... Odexed blue........ It's a piece of work in itself... No issues with it...
Anyway... Here's the link to root by qbking77... Not affiliated with neither guys...

Just got mine too. This is exactly what I had to do. I had a little trouble getting it to recognize my phone. If you have Win7 64 bit, make sure you install the drivers in the Program Files (x86) directory. Also, I had to run the included version of ODIN before connecting the phone, and also had to put the phone in DL mode before I connected it.
Just watch the video guys.... Qbking77 has a video on using odin as well...
