Hi all,
the search is letting me down, telling me some longer time that it is currently off
I would like to see who is the 'traffic-eater' on my Desire HD. I have installed Trafficstats, Hisurfing and Data Counter Widget. Result is that each is showing its own "traffic"leaving me to doubt that either of them is actually correct.
I'd like to see who is eating WiFi and who is eating GPRS traffic and how much. TrafficStats is coming closest to doing that, but the total numbers shown in the app are different from the sum of all the parts.
Does anybody know of an app that really gives the data correctly, as I still feel that I am not able to hunt down who is eating what traffic on my DHD.
thanks in advance,
Ruud
Hi, I use Traffic Counter by Carl Hopf. I think it is good, it takes call, sms, data and WiFi. You can try the free version. Alternate You can use 3g watchdog. For me the best is Traffic Counter.

thanks for the answer. I installed both of these apps now. So now I have 5 traffic counters. Hope to come to the conclusion which one (if any) is actually reliable.
best regards,
Ruud
I am using "track your 3g" and so far it seems pretty accurate.

Thanks, but after having paid for one or two of them who do not work correctly, I'd rather first test and then decide to purchase. Further it claims to be just like 3G watchdog, just cheaper. I am using 3G Watchdog since Yesterday, so will test that somewhat further first.
Any other good working apps which I can test first ?
regards,
Ruud
I use traffic counter and the 3g data counter is highly inaccurate. It says I've used almost 75% of my monthly usage when I've only used about 10%. I will try 3g watchdog now.
Traffic counter does not show the daily traffic, so I have problems judging its accuracy compared to the others.
TrafficStats and 3G Watchdog are very close, so I tend to start believing them
As 3G Watchdog does not give info about WiFi, I would stick to TrafficStats.
Only downside on TrafficStats that it is hard to understand why the total traffic is not the same at the sum of all the parts, no matter if You show main applications or show the system applications too.
So I guess, I am waiting for a newer TrafficStats where these small things are solved, then I will probably be able to check if the numbers are real and I can throw away the rest of what I have for the same task.
best regards,
Ruud
The miui roms.have a really nice traffic counter over extracted the app from it but I can't get it to work outside of miui

3G Watchdog is the winner here, great performance and widget.

agreed. 3g watchdog is very accurate and widget is nice. regret having paid for traffic counter before trying it out. my traffic counter now displays me having used 4 gigs of traffic lol what a joke

While I own an international unlocked version of the S2, i assume the Sprint version must be very similar. After countless hours of trying to figure it out, this is what i discovered and solved my battery draining issue (it's been two months with no problems at all) i get 4 to 5 hrs display time and it lasts me all day. I was on stock 2.3.3 and recently upgraded to 2.3.4. with same results. The following tips are things i did prior to rooting, and they solved my battery drain issue.
1. Anything that tracks location is a battery drainer and i discovered that i was using wireless networks for location (it's also not that accurate) and it was the biggest culprit, so i disabled it and now i use gps (more accurate) as needed and turn it off when done. If you use Google maps with google latitude enabled, sign out of latitude when done using it.
2. App killers use more battery than saving it by closing apps and processes that run in backgroung that will automatically open right back again. Stay away from them.
3. Some apps if left in memory will constantly cause cpu spikes (suspend and events/0), in my case it was Facebook and Xfinity apps. So i close all active apps in task manager. Don't really clear ram, just close active apps.
4. Use Watchdog from Market to track any apps that might be using a lot of cpu.
5.Enabling Back up my data also drained my battery, so i disable it.
Hopes this helps...

While I can't state for certain that it's causing any extra battery drain, Carrier IQ is hooking into the location service, and every time your location changes, grokking your latitude, longitude, accuracy, and a timestamp. This is new to the Epic Touch.
I constantly have alerts for suspend and event/0 in watchdog. In the stock task manager there really isnt much running to kill. It's driving me nuts. haha My battery life isnt horrible but I think it could be better..

Hey Guys,
I've been on ICS for awhile now, but I just switched back to Gingerbread. I must say I do like GB more (for now anyway).
Anyway one thing that really bugs me is the 4G icon on all the Gingerbread ROMs. I am currently running Blazer v4.0 and I was wondering how I could make the 4G icon be more like the 3G icon. By this I mean that instead of having the 4G icon like the WiFi icon, it is just like the 3G icon with the two arrows, much like the 4G icon is on the HTC EVO.
Please let me know if this mod exists (I searched without luck) or if it is possible. I would love to see this.
Thank you in advance.
You could go and edit the framework-res.apk yourself if you're up for that.
Edit: Actually, the 4g icons are in the settings.apk, sorry about that.
If you want I could try and whip out some 4g icons for you if you give me more of an idea of what you'd like. I'd still keep some way to show the signal strength though, as that should be kept and not exactly like the 3g icons that just show activity.
Well you see I live in an area were 4G is really strong so the signal strength doesn't really matter to me
I just like the look of the 3G icons much more with the up and down arrows that light up when they are in use.
I would love to create it myself, but unfortunately I don't have much knowledge when it comes to anything beyond the creation of the icons. I may however try to mess around with the settings apk to see if I could figure it out.
So ya, what I really would like is an icon just like the 3G icon, but that says 4G instead. Sort of like on Verizon phones: http://goo.gl/xOrsa
So I made some icons of how I imagine this to be. If anyone could help me figure out how to use them I would be very grateful.

I'm trying to think because I've only used 4G some in different places that have it not near me, does our phone change the icon when it is in use? Obviously it stops sleeping if it was, but does it flash or anything?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Actually I just connected to the almost nonexistent 4G at my house that I never use and it seems to stay static.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Pretty sure it stays the same. I think on of the main issues would be getting the up and down arrows to light up when in use. I guess both arrows could be off when its sleeping and on when its not? I really would like to have it be just like 3G though. I wobder if this may be something that could be developed...

Guys how we missed this?
Since 9th of December this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ifit.android.app&hl=es
Added standalone support for GPS running with our SW3.
We have to try it.

but can we export the training to other app? like runkeeper?
I don't think so. But it's a nice way to try a new service and website.
Tried this today... Only good thing over ghostracer is looks, but that's it. More functionality and ambient with ghostracer.
Actually I find this app more than enough. It just works. Settings are easy to use and all tipical info is displayed.
I know ghostracer is great having the developer here, but ifit is the best other choice.
It's possible to see at the same time four fields of information.
And also when the app starts it waits for proper gps signal.
It's the closed ecosystem that is a non starter for me. Their website stinks and for serious runners, strava, runkeeper, etc are 100x better
I know, it depends how serious you're.
I just run for fun and I have enough with proper data in my wrist, basic cloud storage and web service.
At the moment it's the only decent alternative to Ghostracer beta...
I see now they even are promoting the SW3
https://www.ifit.com/sonywatch
I think they deserve a little more attention. They are the first of the professional running web services to develope serously for our watches.
Most serious runners or bikers have never heard of ifit. They cater more to the gym treadmill crowd with their built in software. Not saying it's bad, but most serious runners have garmin, polar, or sunutoo, or tomtom. Which have their own services and many sync to strava and runtastic.
With ghostracer hrm support, lapping, and future alerts, it smokes ifit
Sure, I also think ghostracer is the most serious project with our watch.
Just saying this is the best other (not beta) choice right now.
I just got a new SSW3 today and it has a iFit logo on the box.

gps accuracy?
Just wondering how is the gps accuracy for this app?
I have tried runkeeper, and I have no way knowing if the gps is connected or not.
Just tried ifit, only run for around 1.6km and it reported too short to save to the phone and just deleted the record.
I don't usually run a long distance, and this isn't a app for me if can't record short distances. :crying:
Otherwise, the GPS seems to be better than runkeeper. At least it keeps track of my run even I am under a sheltered walkway.
So, hello everyone it's been a while.
For those who wonder what the heck is this guy,
I made this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/themes-apps/edge-navigation-bar-button-t2950486
Anyhow, let's get to the point.
I've been around making this app... called 'On the Edge of the World', or 'the Edge of the World', or 'World Edge' to shorten a lot.
For now, it's quite simple. It basically works in three steps.
1.When loaded,(that is user swipes edge panels and World Edge shows up), it checks gps location.
2.Then it retrieves google maps image from online and shows the image on the edge panel
3.Also, it writes down the address of current location.
I have fooled my phone so that it thinks that I am at the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Island.
See the image below of the prototype I have worked on.

GPS locations are not re-called automatically after once it's loaded due to battery issue.
You can refresh your GPS location manually by clicking that Compass icon below, though.
(Yes, it's the icon from Safari. Sorry Jobs, I have always been shameless about stealing great icons.)
So that's basically it, at least for now.
What do you think? Too gimmicky?
What kind of functionality does this app need to become a killer-app?
Let me know.
Reserved just in case
Good work again. And what about battery use?
Possibly a GPS navigation system using just the edge with voice prompts. It can display an arrow when you need to turn(flashing arrow for a hundred meters or so) and have the voice telling you where to go. Make sure it has downloadable maps so it doesn't cost using wireless internet.
Good enough idea for you?

Similarly to the Google Maps micro on Wear? I could get down with that!
Love the idea, can't wait to see it in action!
Recently it seems that some badly written apps are trying to use bluetooth for beacons and are killing my battery in the process. In the past I found that Gasbuddy was the culprit and could work around the problem by killing it. Now it's happening again, The apps aren't showing up in the battery display but bluetooth keeps popping up as the second largest user of battery. For example, right now my phone has been off the charger for 3 hours and bluetooth is listing 32 minutes of CPU time and 1 Hour 19 Minutes of wakelocks. It never used to even show up on the list.
What tool can I use on a non-rooted phone to identify the app that is hammering bluetooth and causing that kind of usage.
Thanks for the advice,
I don't claim to know best non root or even best rooted rooted solution but I the short time I glanced at Google Play, this one caught my attention: no permissions or ads.

Attached is highest app regarding battery concerns. The Windows drop down but only option given is to uninstall. If there's an auto starts app that doesn't require root, that may be an alternative to add more control to these apps of concern.
I usually just use the Recents/Active applications to see what's active but you're right, there's activity hiding from this monitor. Only some are neglecting permissions.
Gee, I thought someone had said no ads in their review? Adaway adware scan didn't reflect this as a concern. Any doubt why I love root?

I don't know how well it works for non root phones but greenify now has an auto hibernation mode for non root users.

@poit
While looking for an Adaway alternative for systemless root, I came upon an app which produced a link for permissions app and ad blocker; both have no root requirements.
https://m.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/3vxa3b/managing_app_permissions_and_systemwide_ad_on/
You may have to search for the ad blocker but the permissions app is on XDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59864393&postcount=1
I wouldn't recommend the auto installer unless temporarily enabling it for automated long process. I've used these rooted permissions apps but this one is very simple in approach although I had to ignore a lot of middle risk apps that I trust.
I installed both apps and scanned with no concerns. I'm liking the results so far.
