[Q] [REQ] wipe/titanium backup tutorial? (couldnt find)

Ok when I flash a new ROM and want to do so with a clean slate/wipe, I have titanium backup to back up all my apps, but I'm still kinda unsure of the full procedure as obvious as it may seem... When I did my first wipe, I had to go back and redo all of my information for everything on the phone. Is this typical? What I mean by that is I had to input all my google account info, set up my home screens, set up my facebook app...and turn off all of my sync's...
if you don't wipe, do you have to do all of that? Does a titanium backup on apps/system data allow you to not have to do this?
is this the proper step by step:
1.Titanium backup - apps/system data
2. Rom manager -download rom w/ wipe and back up
3. load rom
4. titanium restore - apps/system data?

Just apps or apps+user data. System data varies from ROM to ROM. Plus, you have no need of multiple copies of system data.

when i flashed to virtuous and did a wipe, i did a backup before of just apps and when i restored apps+user data, it really didn't do anything. I still had to change all the configurations for everything to not sync and to put in username/password...

was shaky on this as well....what is the difference between user and system data? Just would be a pain to lose all layouts and wifi passwords.
I've been doing apps+system data each time and havn't really had any major problems to speak of

my titanium backup doesnt have an option to back up apps+user data... just apps and apps+system data

My bad on an unclear response.. When restoring from TB, it's apps+ user data. You do not want to restore system apps from a different rom. In the scheduling section of TB, There are different configurations you can choose.

any way to keep home screens and such in place?

Should be the restore desktop htc sense in TB/Restore missing apps+ all system data. That's the only 1 you should pull from there for this.

I just did a restore myself with user apps+data and it had me click 'install' for every app, pain in the ass, anyway to click and go?

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I have a quesition about TB Pro. Today I flashed the CM6 ROM onto my DINC. When I reinstalled the TB Pro app onto the phone from my appmonster folder on the SD Card and opened it up to restore my apps in batch mode, TB Pro would FC whether I was trying to restore apps only, apps+data or even individual apps (not batch mode). Am I doing something wrong, am I misunderstanding how TB Pro is supposed to function, is there an incompatibility?

Try the problems button in titanium and clear its data in the application menu.

Custom ROM problems

everytime ive installed a custom rom it breaks after i reboot the phone.
ive tried gingerburst, insertCoin, aceSmod for HTC desire and they dont work very well at all...
after i reboot the phone after restoring via titanium backup my widgets get messed up and my htc people app doesnt work properly either.
am i restoring it wrong or something with titanium backup? :S has anyone else came across this problem?

With your apps that the widgets are based on, are they saved to internal storage? Because if they're saved to sd card they will not work, they must be in internal storage to work.

Did you restore the red apps with titanium? Don't do this. It will corrupt your Rom.

i click on menu>batches>restore all apps with data then select all and restore. take it this is bad then?

^No need to restore system apps (the ones in red), because your new system apps are the ones that came with your new ROM. Restore only user apps + data.

Unless one is using a2sd+. Then android "thinks" they are still stored in internal memory (although they are stored in ext partition of sd card) and so the widgets still work.

just installed a custom ROM again and restored with titanium backup.
this time i only backed up the green apps/data and only restored the green apps/data as well.
still the same problem though after first reboot.

Do you run a complete wipe when you flash a new rom? I suggest to delete ALL backups made with titanium backup, run a complete new one, flash new rom with complete wipe, reboot after first boot of the new rom, and then restore apps + userdata with tb.
If this does not help, install all apps manually and only restore their data with tb.

yes, i do run a complete wipe. i will try again later thanks.

MatDroid, I think if he has more than a hundred user apps (like me), it'd be bloody to re-install apps manually. This can often be fixed by Root Toolbox's "Fix Permissions" function, which fixes broken market links and mismatched backups/restores. Dunno if the free version of RT has it though, as I'm using the paid Pro version.

so i have calk vs. 2.5 and i want unnamed rom with all my app's. so when i go into recovery do i need to format all data or can i just instal the rom ??? and ik u can use titanium backup but in titanium backup is there a button restore all backed up apps? thanks!

In order to flash a completely different ROM, you need to wipe data, which will erase your current ROM and apps. You will need to use Titanium Backup to restore your apps after formatting and flashing the new ROM.
I think (not positive) TB has a batch option to restore all user apps.

Back up your apps on the current rom you are running. Use Titanium back up from the market. I usually wipe data and then back up the app. Go down the list until you got all the ones you wanted.
When you flash the new rom, flash it normally as you would going to any new rom. I use Calkulin's FORMAT ALL zip folder. It's easiest. And then flash new rom and reboot system. After you let the rom settle in for a good while, I usually reboot the phone. Then when you start setting up on the new rom, download Titanium back up again from the market. Once it's on your phone, go into the app and all the apps you backed up should be at the bottom. I usually just restore the app not the data with it.

Try not to restore system apps + data because it can cause problems when switching between ROMS.

I've never even found myself backing up/restoring system apps. I just stick to the "user apps".

is there a one button click for "restore all backed up user app's" or restore all app's lol i got alot of app's and takes like an hour between roms to get everything back

Yes. Click menu then batch but it only works with the paid version of TB. I've had plenty of problems restoring apps and user data with TB on a new Rom. Yes it's quick and easy but in my opinion it's worth the time to reinstall everything you can fresh from the market.

I've always found switching roms a good time to clear out unneeded apps, just select the ones I really use and forget the rest.

Agree with this sentiment. Connected to Wi-Fi and take 10 minutes to fresh install everything so you know you aren't getting any of the conflicts that can arise using restored apps from different firmware.

Titanium Backup

Hi,
I have loaded OsiMood onto my phone...
Now, when I try and go to Titanium Backup to restore thigns such as
Buddies Now
Calculator
Clock
Digital Clock
Home screen tips
And click restore it takes forever. Is this the ROM preventing me?

Just curious, did you allow root when you first launched Titanium Backup? You might try removing it and installing again.

Force Close titanium Backup (tap and hold home touch key, task manager, active tab, Exit TB), then restart back up. This may NOT work, for TB only preserves "Data" of those system apps (not apk).
Word of caution: You are restoring "system apps" which is quite delicate...I suggest not restoring any system apps, i know it would be a pain for others, like me, who uses some bloat apps...but just to be safe. Talking from experience and from strong warnings upon flashing different ROMs.

YES, didn't even notice that. I usually say never restore System apps or system data with Tibu. It's great for 3rd party apps and data, but more often times it will end up giving you many FC's and leaving you with a generally unstable phone.

hello i have been using this rom,
freeze a app you would like then wait about 10 sec push the home key then restart the phone even tho TB doesnt stop deleting the app it has actually done it i think its a bug in this rom, when the phone powers on you will notice the app is gone, same steps for restoring if the app is big id wait longer before restarting.

requires some work...you can unpack those system apps from the stock rom and push it to /system/app....
not guaranteed to work, you might end up reflashing....do it on your risk....

Is osimood applied over the rogers rom or replace?

It should replace the existing ROM, sort of. When going from a stock ROM to custom I always do a wipe data/factory reset in CWM. Then when you flash the new ROM, it's basically replacing the stock ROM. I said sort of, because sometime if you don't wipe the data, when you flash the new ROM some of your old data may still be lingering around. Most of the time you will know this because it force closes (FC's) like crazy, kind of like restoring system data with Titanium Backup (tibu).
Once you are on a custom ROM, you can usually flash any new versions without wiping data, and in return all your settings/apps/data is still there after the flash. I usually do this unless the Dev says to do a wipe in the instructions.

CWM or Clockwork Mod is a recovery platform that is loaded before the Android OS comes up if you press the correct keys. It's used to flash custom ROMS, do a full system backup, wiping and recovery, and some other fun things.
Tibu is designed to backup and restore almost anything in the Android OS itself, ie, apps, settings, and also other fun things like freezing, uninstalling, etc. I say "designed to" because I've never seen Tibu successfully restore system data or apps. The only things I use Tibu for are backing up and restoring of User apps and data, this is helpful when flashing. From a clean install I can usually be back to normal in about 10 minutes using Tibu and then manually entering my google account info, wireless info, ringtones, etc.
You have the ability to wipe from the settings menu, but when flashing new roms it's better to do it from CWM as this wipes your data and cache. Some Devs recommend to wipe the Dalvik Cache also, which can only be done in CWM.

[Q] Best backup/restore option?

Hi... Like everybody here, I love to try new roms, versions, etc... The problem is that everytime we full wipe our phone, we obviously lose everything.
I was looking for some tools to help me to backup/restore my apps (including swype, which seems impossible to backup) quickly. Titanium backup can't restore automatically... What about Rom toolbox pro? Worth it?

There's always cwm which will backup whole ROM it includes apps and data, combined with titanium you can restore phone back to stock.
Cwm will not back up automatically.

Titanium Backup up is simply the best. Also My Backup Root is worth trying.

Titanium is good but the noisy thing about it that you should press install for every app you restore.

if u tried Titanium Backup Pro you wouldn't ask expect for auto restore

Sorry mate you are wrong with pro version you can select batch option sand restore all system or user apps with data is available.
Select option key then select batch.
