[Q]Over clocking G2 on a sense rom. - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, I'm in need of help how to set up the best overclocking settings for a sense rom like virtous.
One that doesn't cause any trouble or damage.
I'm the type of guy who used to ignore it, but now I wanna get into it and see if it helps the sense imrpove.
I need a step by step help on how to set it up and where can I get the setcpu.. etc etc.
If anyone can take there time and help me,I'll appriciate it fully !
Thanks !
By the way, would also like to know...what does it really do and improve...thanks a bunch.

Well in the case of virtuous 0.9.0 and up you'll need to flash a overclock kernal in the recovery.
You can download them here:
Use_with_Virtuous_0.9.0_and_prior
http://files.virtuousrom.com/vision/kernels/virtuous/1.0/
Use_with_Virtuous_0.9.5_or_newer_ONLY
http://files.virtuousrom.com/vision/kernels/virtuous/1.1/
Now as for SetCPU you can donate some cash to the dev for a beer by buying it off the market, or you could download it for free off xda since he was kind enough to share it with xda members on the house. (Search for the thread)
Once you have the files you need, place them on your sdcard
-Reboot into Recovery
-Make a Nandroid Backup of your current system
-Flash the kernal .zip file you downloaded
-Reboot
If you downloaded SetCPU off the market, skip to Launch SetCPU
Download Super Manager off the Market (or Astro, or any filemanger of your choice)
Menu-Settings-Applications- Check "Unknown Sources"
Open Super Manager-File Explorer
Browse to and Click Install the SetCPU.apk you downloaded
Launch SetCPU
Then Click "Autodetect Speeds"
When prompted for root permissions check always, and Yes
Below are my personal settings but feel free to tweak as needed
Max 1305600
Min 245760
Scaling ondemand
Check- Set on Boot
Optionally Add SetCPU Widget to your desktop for clockspeed info.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions

For me,the pershoot kernel gave me the best battery life along with a few other tweaks while runninig Virtuous Sense 9.0. Was getting around 36-40 hrs on a single charge. Even with moderate use.

[ROM] GingerICE 2.1 (Android 2.3.6 EU based, Custom .35 Kernel with OC capability)

Hello!
I just wanna share with you my modification of KezraPlane's rom V4. I called it GingerICE, cause I want to give this rom a little of ICS flavour . I took chrsi555 ported notifications and build them into rom, so that you don't need to flash them separately. I've also removed TouchwizUI. Most of the samsung apps are removed (all the hubs , and other s*** stuff, inlcluding Kies, and all samsung widgets). I've tried to strip this rom as much as it can handle, but still keep it functional, and a little social . And I've undo memory swap (so it is just like in original rom), internal memory is mounted on /sdcard, and external memory is on /sdcard/external_sd/
CHANGELOG:
GingerICE 1.0 (Link removed):
- Go Launcher EX (atm it is my favorite launcher)
- ICS Theme for Go launcher EX (you have to aplay it)
- Transparent skins fo Go Launcher Widgets (you have to aplay it, to every widget)
- Go Widget Task Manager (it is very simple to use, and always available on the desktop)
- RAM Manager FREE (just use first option in application: Balance, if you want other options I suggest buying pro application)
GingerICE 2.0 (Link removed):
- updated added apps (GO launcher and additions)
- completly new kernel with OC capability (latest one from Cowithgun!)
- Working SmartAssV2 (credit: erasmux), OnDemandX (credit: imoseyon) and MinMax (credit: erasmux) CPU governors.
- more ram (360MB), and other performance improvements that new kernel brings
- removed some workaround, that I've used for market (been there because of known problems with account), maybe this was causing force close problems to some of you
GingerICE 2.1 both OC and NON OC:
- updated to latest cowithgun kernel, wchi has a fix for playing 720p video with hardware acceleration (now only 359MB ram )
- two versions: with overclock capability (OC) and normal (N)
- File manager ES File Explorer added (if problems with root explorer options, just reinstall manager!)
- updated Go Launcher EX (screenshots are attached, ICS theme and transparent skin for widgets applied)
You flash it with CWM or RZ recovery. BUT FIRST DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!
WIPE DATA AND CACHE IS NEEDED! Than you can restore apps with Titanium Backup or other similar app.
WARNING!!! If u noticed any strange behavior like, wifi not working (most common one), than I recommend factory reset (or even wipe and new flash), and manually install your apps (that means straight from market). I must say I like to use google's backup system, so when I flash new rom, and put in my google account, I just connect to wifi, and all the apps I had before are just downloaded and installed again automaticly.
If you are having problems with google account when logging to market, just go to aplications and Clear Market cache, and reboot phone.
This is NON OC version, cause OC kernel is not very stable, a lot of users having problems with it, so I rather stick to this one.
ADVICE If you want to use V& supercharger script, it is better to remove RAM manager. I don't know if script works with this rom, there were reported some problems with first version. I am not responsible for script not working.
Use overclocking at your own risk, I won't be responsible for bricking your device, blah blah
This rom wouldn't be here if there weren't this nice people:
KezraPlane, thanks for great rom you have provided us, and all the hard work he put into developing it!
chris555, thanks for your ICS theme port, that gave this rom the name and the look !
Juwe11, thakks for the great app Called RAM Manager, I've added a free version here!
cowithgun for his dedication on developing such good kernels!
and all the other members of this community, that are willing to sacrifice their time, for developing or testing new roms!
If I've didn't gave enough people the credit, please remind me, and I will gladly add every single one !
I didn't add any special scripts, cause it is not recommended using scripts with RAM Manager.
For better battery life I recommend Battery Defender, it is easy to set up and you won't even notice that you are using it.
Ok now try it, and tell me how it works!
IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM 2.0 TO 2.1 YOU CAN ONLY WIPE CACHE.
DOWNLOAD 2.1
DOWNLOAD 2.1 OC
Removed Samsung apps can be find HERE or HERE.
Please don't quote this whole post! It uses to much space in thread. Thanks for understanding!

It is suitable with V6 script, but then it is better for you to uninstall RAM Manager. I personally recommend to use RAM manager, cause it is working, and it is simple to use .
I don't have mediafire account, but I hope that someone else could upload it, and I will add link in first post .

Currently, i'm using the Kezra V3 with the V6 script. If i wanna use this ROM, should i wipe data and Dalvik cache? What about the V6 script that i have installed before, do i need to uninstall the V6 script before flashing this ROM? Most importantly, do you know how to un-supercharge the script?

Run the V6 in script manager same way how you set it up. And there is an option to unsupercharge the phone go through the list and you'll be done. But all the data from the supercharger is still saved on the phone/ sdcard in case you want to supercharge again. But wont effect this rom or any rom infact

If you "unsupercharge" it, then no data from the script should left in rom. Since you have to put the script on memory card, and then run it with Script Manager. What is going on when you run the script with Script manager is that some values are being changed in system files, and maybe some lines are added. When you undo this, only this stuff is changed. Than you can also delete she supercharger script from your memory card, if you won't use it any more.
Good luck !

Here you should try downloading this keyboard. Then use some file explorer that has root access (like ES File Manager), go to /system/app and search for AxT9IME.apk, delete it and, then copy downloaded file on this location. Agter that just reboot your phone, and try it. I hope this one will work, it does on my phone . Tell me how it goes!
Cheers,

[ROM] Cow ROM v7 (Bionic Cow 2)

Version 7 of Cow ROM: Bionic Cow 2.
- For arco68
It's basically an update to Bionic Cow using latest firmware from Sammy - I8150DXLC1. Features:
1) The OC kernel has been rewrote. It should be more stable and graphic score improved.
2) Bionic Scorpion Optimization library. Using NEON instructions for faster memory operations. Learned from arco68 github for ICS.
3) CowPanel 2 - use this util to configure VSYnc on/off. For speed, use VSync off. For smooth, use VSync on + triple buffering. Read more here. You also may configure zRam option here. zRam is off by default. Read more here.
4) Many CPU governors: Default using OnDemandX for best battery; 80% left in 24 hours. Use "Performance" for benchmarking.
5) More RAM - 358Mb available, compare to 351Mb in stock ROM.
6) Using a super light Zeam Launcher. Thanks cloakt for permission to use.
7) Internal / external sd card swap, CRT screen off effect, Low Memory Killer Tweaked, OnDemandX tweaked, Custom Bootup animation and Larger SD Card cache, Voice Search, etc.
8) Based on arco68 GB kernel. Without which, none of this is possible.
Special thanks to arco68, tch9, andynroid and pinkyunki, Murny Umairah, Myrule Anarki, Santos San Martin and Mohd Fazrin Daud from SGW group.
*WARNING*: Don't use OC ROM unless you know what you are doing. The ROM will automatically reset to 1.4ghz - OnDemandX after reboot as a safety precaution. I only set to 1.8ghz OC for short time during Cheat Engine hacks, zip / unzip, benchmark, etc. I always reset back to max 1.4ghz for normal used. I strongly recommend you to set a temperature profile if CPU ever get above 50C you should lower max clock back to 1.4ghz.
So, here is the link:

Part 2: http://www.mediafire.com/?e368mc427y19611
Here is how to install the ROM:
1. Enable recovery.
2. Use 7zip, right click on xxxx.001, extract. It will create the zip file required for flashing. Copy this zip into your phone. (Don't extract xxx.002)
3. Boot into ClockWorkMod / RZRecovery, backup your current ROM using nandroid (just in case).
4. If you are upgrading from my previous ROM;
- BEFORE installing the ROM, Uninstall CowPanel: Setting, Application, Cowpanel, uninstall
- Wipe Dalvik-cache. All your settings and app will remained. Theme will changed though.
5. If you are installing from stock or from other custom ROM, best to wipe everything using CWM, including your USB and external sd card. Reinstall everything from fresh, don't restore anything from Titanium Backup or anything.
Google Map? Missing apk? Original theme? If you want to restore to stock theme, get all the apk here.
Report Problem: If you encounter FC or any problem, please provide logcat so I may trace it:
1. Connect phone to USB
2. adb logcat > log.txt
3. In your phone, reproduce the crash / FC / etc
4. Kill all adb process in your PC
5. Zip and send me the log.txt
Update Radio Firmware
I8150DXLC1 comes with an updated Radio firmware. This should improve voice call quality. Check if you need to update this, go to Check "Setting", "About phone", "Baseband version". If you already have I8150DXLC1 or newer you dont need this. If not, use Odin to flash this. This will only update the Radio firmware, nothing else will change. You can do this before or after install Bionic Cow 2 ROM.
1. Get Odin.
2. Get ancora.ops.
3. Get radio firmware.
4. Boot into "download mode". Connect phone to PC. Start Odin
5. Select OPS file = ancora.ops. Select One Package = radio firmware, check "One package", "Auto reboot", "Protect OPS".
6. Start and wait till it complete.

Antutu 5067 on 1,8GHz !
I really love the theme, very nice!!
Thanks my friend!!
As now, i'm using your Bionic, Cow. Love the green-ish theme, seems smoothly smart!
A few things btw :
1. When booting up, there is still sound of the boot animation. How to disable it?
2. When locking the phone, the transition is somewhat like distortion-type, not like the scale-old-tv in your previous ROM. Is it supposed to be that way or my phone goes wrong?
3. The "3G icon" in status bar alternately goes from small to big and vice versa. Also is this meant to be as such? :/
Apart of those, it is indeed a GREAT and SUPERB ROM.

min speed ? ondemand or ondemandx ?
I must be dumb.
I download xxx.7z.001 and xxx.7z.002.
Right click on 001: extract here puts META-INF, data and system folders and the other files in the folders I am working in. If I right click and extract to GT-I8150-BIONIC it just puts those files in a folder. No sign of a flashable zip.
What am I doing wrong?
Bomoh, an user who doesn't have permission to post in Dev section yet, told me this solution and it's working. Thanks to him!

Tapping max cpu freq crashes the app.

Nice idea, I will add it. I will add more tools, but if you got any idea just tell me and I will look what I can do
It looks like it FC with some SIII I'm looking to find a solution for this.
I need one SIII user who want to contribute with finding the FC with this device. You will need to do a lot of tests, searches and probably flash different kernels.
If you want and you think that you can handle it, please do a nandroid with your current setup. After that contact me at [email protected] with your current ROM, kernel and device info. Then we will start with it.
Please I don't have a SIII and I don't know no one that have one rooted, neither the money to buy one. Any help will be very appreciated.
Thanks.
Glad i could help, will help with other kernels soon.

Version 1.2
First try to fix FC with this device, please try it and report. (Try to change your CPU MHz)
Version 1.5
Changed orientation to portrait. Added a bootanimation preview button. Easier file chooser for bootanimation. Completely different look for kernel mods. App more user friendly. Fixed some minor bugs. Removed some unused toast messages.
Need some test for bootanimaton preview. Please report back
Updated to latest, Version 1.6, with many fixes
Version 1.7
A lot of bug fix. Fixed governor settings not applying, added a check box to set governor at boot, fixed clear cache for ROMs that doesn't support it, fixed crash for CPU temp notification, fixed loop when device can't reboot, clear cache, etc. Added GSF id and System id info, (Will just show it to you).

New version with Rom management. Only available for CWM Recovery!!
Can I use this with stock recovery (cf-auto-root) on a SIII or is mandatory to have CWM?

I haven't tested it with any other recovery. You can try. MAKE A BACKUP FIRST. Then report and I see what I can do

How fast can you clock stock kernels to?

I've just restocked my ROM using jmz's stockdeodex ROM and kernel and it only lets me set the speed up to 1020mbs. And i was wondering if there was a kernel out there for stock CDMA to make it go up to like 1900 or 1500mps? If so, can you please give me a link? Thanks!
Also, i installed his ROM but everytime i use a program like Root explorer or SetCPU it doesn't have a popup for root permissions. And in the superuser app it doesn't show any loggings of apps that asked for permission. This is weird. Why is this happening?
u can't in Stock kernel dude
no oc no uc
just plain 1024

[Q] Help on Installing kernel zip for custom rom?

Hi guys! First post here. So I just permarooted my G2, and I got a custom ROM up called Andromadus Mimicry ROM – version 1.5.0 (September 4, 2012). I'm trying to overclock the phone, but I can't find the exact .zip file that holds the kernel?
Here is the link to the developer's site.

Well I don't think you'll find this kernel in a flash able zip, you will find the boot.img in the full ROM zip you downloaded (that is the kernel bty) but really you don't need to play with that yourself to overclock, just go into settings and do so under performance.
If you prefer there some nice apps which may make it simpler like setcpu and kernel tuner, also have had good luck with ilwt tools and other dameon controllers found on the market and often free to download within these threads.
But really I found mimicry to run great on stock settings, of course half the fun with android is to try stuff on your own!
Good luck, oh and always make a backup before changing things too much

I already am using SetCPU. There was a problem with SetCPU before that whenever I went into it, it said it didn't have Superuser access. Which was weird, because Superuser said it did. But of course, now I went to check and it's overclocking fine with no errors. Problem solved itself...somehow. LOL.
