[Q] Wallpapers becoming distorted/corrupt-looking - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running Cyanogenmod 7 nightly #22, invisiblek kernel 2.6.35.10 beta, HBOOT .92, stock radio, Rover's theme for nightly #22, and using wallswitch v 2.0.2.
There really isn't much I can say besides that it doesn't go away until a reboot. Any clue why this is happening? Image explains it all.

Does this happen on a stock install of CM7? I have CM7 and have never had the problem. I have a feeling it could be something to do with the theme or that wallswitch program.
Thinking it could possibly be because that app isn't made for GB yet?

No idea what would cause that or how to fix it (other than the reboot for a temp fix you mentioned), but at least it looks kinda cool lol in sort of a "I hope this isn't due to damaged hardware" kind of way lol.
Sent from my Droid Incredible running Myn's Warm Two Point Two RLS5.3.

If it was on a regular PC, I would say that the video card was over heating or the connector is going bad.
One way to check is to take a screen shot. If it is the connector the screenshot will not show the artifacts.

I'm a PC tech and that's exactly why I took the screenshot
Screenshot shows the artifacts so it's not due to a bad physical connection but if it is hardware related (the artifacts) the screenshot will show it. I doubt that the GPU is at fault here since it is ONLY the wallpaper that becomes artifacted. App drawer and every other thing I have tested while the wallpaper is artifacted do not have any issues at all. This is leading me to believe that the wallpaper switching app I use is at fault.

Try bringing the wallpaper into photoshop or something. And resave it out as a .png or .jpg or something that it's not originally and bring it back into the phone. Sometimes the actual picture files themselves can corrupt when being downloaded or transfered.

The file itself does not become corrupted. It is also not just one wallpaper that does this. I have ~6 wallpapers that the app switches through and they all do this at one point or another. Also, if it was the actual file becoming corrupted then that would show even after a reboot or viewing it on my PC from the SD card where it is located.

it is really pointing to the wallswitch program at this point, i have to agree with your assessment before...have you tried rolling w just a standard wallpaper, i know thats the simplistic approach, but sometimes simple is so much easier...have you contacted that apps dev to check compatiblity w GB? Good luck and i hope there is an easy fix...very odd problem

Yeah, it really is the app itself. I haven't contacted the devs about it yet but I plan on it. Using one wallpaper without the app I have no issues so mystery solved. I'm just happy that it wasn't a bigger issue.

Hey all,
i'm currently designing a new theme for Sense ui, however i've managed nearly all of it, but when i recolour text input boxes and save them they look fine, however when on the phone they loose all resolution. become blocky and distorted. if i put the original images back, then they return to the original high resolution, how can changing their colour affect there resolution?
any help welcomed/
Luke.
does no one seriously know why? could it be PNG format? any ideas really appreciated.

That happens to all .9.png files!
They need to be patched with draw9patch, which u can find in the sdk tools!
You also must use eclipse to recompile the .9png's after you use the draw9patch tool. Search Google for great tutorials on how to use both.

Rockbox VGA (Updated to stable 3.7 release)

As an avid Rockbox user, I was excited when I discovered this page with precompiled apk's for us. Link I then sadly found out there was no VGA version, only QVGA, HVGA, and WVGA. So I decided to compile it for our beloved VGA RAPH devices. I attached the .apk. Download and install rockboxfixed.apk, download this and extract the "fonts" folder (Inside the zip it is /rockbox-fonts/.rockbox/fonts) to the "rockbox" folder on your sdcard then it should look like the second image and should be more usable. It appears, however, if you extract it to the sdcard you have to manually use the rockbox filebrowser or the theme settings to set it to your selected font. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Outdated: Haven't really gotten to test it so I expect I made an error somewhere, possible in signing the app or whatnot. I'll fix it tomorrow.
P.S. For anyone who doesn't know what Rockbox is: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/WhyRockbox
Edit: Noticed some issues then realized I compiled it for 640 x 480 landscape not 480 x 640 portrait like it should be. Uploaded a new version. *Crosses fingers*
Edit 2: To fix the tiny font follow these steps:
1. Download and extract this and extract it to your sdcard so you have a folder called "fonts" at the root of your sdcard.
2. Open terminal emulator and type: su
3. Type cd sdcard
4. Type cp -af fonts /data/data/org.rockbox/app_rockbox/rockbox
That should do it. It should now look like the second screenshot when you open rockbox. I'll see if I can incorporate the fonts into the apk but not sure how to do that right now.
Edit 3: Wow, just discovered something. You can just copy the fonts folder the the "rockbox" folder at the root of your sdcard. Makes it significantly easier.
Thanks for doing that. Man, i used to have an iRiver, and used and grabbed daily builds for that thing. For other's, it's a really awesome mediaplayer. Well, more then that. I was playing arcade games and doom and such thanks to Rockbox really. This was amazing for an MP3 player that is.

Yeah, I have a Gigabeat S that I LOVE with Rockbox. Best music experience hands down. But also, like you said, I played through doom and every Pokemon for Game boy. Sigh... good times. Anyways, have you tried my apk? Just curious how it works.

Downloaded it, and will give it a shot later and report back. Thanks again.
Ok, tried it last night, and not usable. Something about the screen size might be wrong, as the screen fill's up the top left corner (about 1/16 of the screen), and the menu is so small you literally have to squint to read the text, instead of it filling the whole screen. I don't have a picture, but honestly, if you think about an icon size in "Sense", the whole screen menu is honestly MUCH smaller in size in whole then 1 Sense icon.

ok,sounds good, will definately try the new version. Not meaning to get off topic, but noticing ur sig, what's ur take on Ubuntu on our devices? Lots not working, but not needing 3d accel for now, if mouse, keyboard, and screen at least works at a usable state, just to play with. Since guessing u use or at least test it, wanted to get some feedback from ya.

Well, it's not so much a new version as a way to fix the previous one. Anyways, Ubuntu is actually rather usable. Mouse, keyboard, and screen all work; it's just a little slow but not too bad. Sound is now partly working too.

No, it's a music player first and foremost. The only video format it supports is mpeg2 and I'm not even sure if video is supported in the Android version.
Hi there,
Not a dev or anything, just an avid music junky...
Wanted to let you know that the fonts fix doesn't work on HTC Desire w/ Froyo. Sort of did everything as described but nothing.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
V
That's a native Android device... Not sure why you're posting in the Fuze section. Do they have the same resolution, and there is no RockBox app that is for the Desire...? I'd be surprised.

First off, you should download the WVGA version from here not the one I posted. Second, did you try copying the fonts folder to both locations, within the data folder and the sdcard? Just curious if one might work and not the other. I also changed the first post to be a little more clear. Actually I'm having a little trouble with getting it to recognize the fonts on the sdcard too. I just took the rockbox people's word for it. One way to fix it is to use the rockbox filebrowser and just select the font you want. That should do it.
P.S. I'm no dev either, I just know how to use a Linux command line somewhat.

You're very welcome. Timestretch has nothing to do with me, as I'm sure you already know. That's up to the real rockbox devs to incorporate. Just out of curiosity, what do you use timestretch for? I use it for learning guitar licks in songs.
Finally... I've been asking for a Rockbox port for ages!

That's sounds like there was a stable Rockbox build for Android which totally isn't true. It's *unstable* and largely unusable. 3.7 is stable for a lot of other devices, but not even a single android phone.

(req) nexus s aosp launcher

I've asked a few times in the general forum unsuccesfully to see if anyone knew how to fix this, and just bumped my last unsucessful attempt, but I thought maybe this would get me a little farther. Can someone maybe try to get the original nexus s launcher to work right for eg22. I was using ai3 for a while and I knew that ef02 was having the same issue but marcusant was able to get the nexus s launcher working. Basically when you try to install it/including the versions from the market , they will display strangely and fuzzy like they are in the wrong resolution or something. If anyone would take a crack at it though, that'd be awesome.
Last minute notes too, I've tried pulling the launcher2.apk from marcusants rom and put it in bonzai/stock eg22 and that didn't seem to do the trick either.

[Q] Help with bootanimation

I am failing at making a bootanimation.zip and I am not sure why. Anyone experienced want to take a look at my file and give me a hint as to why this doesn't work? It gets rid of the default Android, but just displays a black screen until the homescreen shows up.
Did I stump everybody? I figured I was just missing something silly like the picture files need to be in 7.5 bit format or something.

You must save the zip as an uncompressed zip file. Compression level should be set to storage mode.

That I am doing. Though I have noticed that sometimes "store" in WinRar compresses by just a few bytes. I made one that was completely not compressed (byte match for stored size versus on drive size). Still not working, so I've ruled that out as being the issue.
I'm attaching a version created by the tool in the link above. It still doesn't work. I have no clue why... still looking for hints.

That looks like it'd be a cool animation. I'll mess with it later when I get home. But at first glance comparing it to other animations I have that work, they are either greyscale or RGB jpgs @ 72dpi. Yours are indexed pngs @ 300dpi. That link says png should be ok, but it says to use RGB. Maybe you could try that next.
Here you go. I converted the images to 72dpi RGB jpgs. I'll still probably try again leaving them as 72dpi RGB pngs, but these animations work now.
I included your original 30fps version, but also slowed it down a bit. I think the 12fps looks good, but unless you have just wiped your dalvik cache, you might not have enough time to see very many blinks. The 21fps version isn't bad, but I think it's still a bit too fast. Tweak the speed to your preference.
These are not flashable, btw, so just copy over with root explorer or whatever.
Has to be renamed sanim.zip to work in GB.

True, I guess I assumed he was using a kernel with the symlink to bootanimation.zip since his phone was actually trying to use the original file. Thanks for the reminder to anyone else trying to get this to work.

I've tried this myself many times to no evail. I get boot animations from a rom that i like and try to put the boot ani in a diff rom and it never works. i'm never able to get the files into the other zip. I can't wait till i figure out how to completely customize roms to exactly what i want! i'm learning a little more day by day. this thread has helped me a little and will now be my reference if i run into this problem once i finally make my own boot ani. Thanks guys!

Battery level live wallpaper ???

I've been looking for a live walpaper that reflects the battery charge level.
Came across Asus MyWater, it's extremely nice, but apparently it won't work at all outside Asus Transformer and its Xoom port. Forcecloses upon trying to assign lwp...
So, found "Liquid Battery" which also force closes..
Any other full screen LWP's to this end ? Not interested in widgets, that i can get easily...
Any ideas ?
Phone runs latest CM9 nightly (as of post date/time).
I've been using asus water on my sgs2 for ages
i've used Neon Clock GL and it could show battery indicator, cpu meter, memory meter, compass, calendar..
u can get it at play store for free..
@Brendo: According to your sig your S2 is on 2.3.6. Mine is on CM9 4.0.4 ICS. Did you try Water LWP on ICS ?
@Gorjess: Nah, looks a bit meh and isn't really what i'm looking for.
Cheers...
Anything like MyWater but not as gorgeous ? Something that drains background as battery discharges ? May not be "rotatable", as long as its full screen...
There are 2 here:

Orange and Cocoa.
And an "Oldschool" paid LWP here:

Haha, very funny indeedy... Not... Go away if you dont ahve anything constructive to add...
Well I added an idea on the previous post, and to be honest, I wasn't trying to be funny.
The first Google result gives a huge selection of threads from XDA.
It's an easy way to display results.
A thanks would have been a better response.
Unbelievable.
Regards.
Well, i do understand that in the trolldom that is internet sometimes you do need to pull "LMGTFY" out, but when you do, you must be prepared to be called a **** (if for a good reason).
My point is, first result is "buddha the charge meter". Thanks, but that is not nearly what i'm looking for and it is in no way constructive... That's why i told you to go away. Did it ever occured to you that some people actually do research before posting ?
Also, my problem appears to be solved so thanks to anyone who helped without resorting to "LMGTFY" trollery/sarcasmery...
Regards as well...
I disagree.
And here's my previous post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26960341
Good luck with your search.
Regards.
Well, i got different results (buddha battery, the whole idea is a bit wtf )... No matter. No need for all this bickering... Its petty.
As for your post, i did try orange juice one. For some reason it would display but it will not animate when set. It will animate in preview though.
My CM9 is freshly installed, wiped couple of times before use, so it has to be something in the CM that does this. Not sure what though...
Ok.
I've been looking, and the highest rated wallpaper is this (Although paid unfortunately) -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monkeyinmysoup.batterywallpaperpro
Although it seems you may have sorted your installation problem, it's worth bearing in mind.
EDIT:
A free version is also available:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monkeyinmysoup.batterywallpaper
Cheers.
Yeah, looked at that, but its more of a gimmick. Well MyWater is as well but at least it has some level of precision in depicting level of charge.
If i knew how to program stuff i'd write very simple one that, say, inverts a bitmap image of your choice at the level of charge 1% at a time from top to bottom, no animations no nothing. Just a simple thing. Cant find anything simple as that. Everything is more or less "gimmickyfied" in some way. Fancy battery eating animation, acc sensor usage, etc...
EDIT1 its bull**** like this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bavirek.apps.icebuddhalivewallpaper&hl=en
(for some reason was the first result of your LMGTFY shot, not sure why now i get proper xda links (checked out by me before i posted here, btw ) )
Understandable.
As a last throw of the Dice, the MIUI battery bar works well on AOKP roms, although not a LWP, it's not intrusive and is battery friendly:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tombarrasso.android.batterybar
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pvy.batterybar
Cheers.
