[Q] setcpu and CM7 built in cpu clocker? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My questions is why do we need to use setcpu when we can use built in cpu tuner on CM7, profiles?? Last time I check whenever your not using your phone ei. screen off or left it by the table your cpu will automatically tune it to the lowest right??
EDIT: maybe we need profiles for battery percentage

wondering the same thing

I have always been a user of SetCPU and profiles, but two days ago I finally decided to give to built-in CPU tuner on CM7 a try, and it seems a little better on battery life and I do not notice any diffrence in the performance. I think I will stick to using the built in CPU tuner for now and see how it goes.

I've been using the built in cpu on CM7 for 2hours it drained me 19% of the battery light usage but I'm gonna try until it drains to 0%, my battery normally last for 13-16 hours on setcpu 248-1017 profile and I'm using the same on built it.

actually, where is the option for the built in CPU Tuner, is there even one? or does it run automatically?

Myns warm two point two and setcpu

Is it ok to use setcpu with a rom like myns warm two point two or is it not necessary?

Certainly OK, but useful... you'll get a lot of answers. I'll say it can be

If your happy with the way your phone is running then why mess with it? Setcpu will work with it no problems but if you want to overclock then you will need to change kernels

Yeah I wasn't planning on issuing for overclocking, but for underclocking when the screen is off.

SetCPU is useful regardless of ROM or Kernel. The ability to select different profiles and CPU settings based on need or battery life is always nice. I would set my default to "On Demand" and max 998 min 128. Then enable profiles and set it up how you like. I perfer to drop my cpu way down while charging, wayyy down for screen off, and hero style 528 for 50% or less battery.
If you do opt for a different kernel make sure it is one that is listed in Myn's post, otherwise it will bork your Spare Parts app.

Ok thanks for the info! I'll play with it and see if I get better battery.

Overclocking and battery life?

I was wondering what everyone uses or their min/max speeds? Ive been using the mild overclock settings with the 245/1024 setting currently, but will increasing it to say 1200mhz really hurt my battery life a lot? Will the 1200mhz speed only kick in when theres a game or something else resource intensive?
depends on your settings, try using an app like set cpu or anything that allows you to use profiles, this way you can help control battery life while still overclocking how youd like. well somewhat better control

The battery life is also rely on what governor that control the cpu.

Awake time.....

I am running stock ICS, with the cpu sleeper app running and my "awake" time is crazy high. I use to have awesome battery life pre ICS, oh and I forgot to mention that I have the nexus extended battery what is running and how can I kill it....I use to get around 19 to 25+ hours before zero now I don't. I have tried to celebrate the battery by letting it run to zero, wiping battery stats and having it charge up to 100% powered off and it still suck. What am I doing wrong? Also I enclosed a pic of my current battery stats for all to see

I suggest getting GSam battery monitor and seeing what is killing your battery. If you really want improvement root that bad boy and gets your self a custom ROM!
Here is my battery life, typical day. AOKP 7/15 with latest CPU sleeper.

Have you looked through the battery stats list of what been running to try and track it down that way? I've also hers people say if your using google voice and restored it from a backup that it will cause wake lock. Uninstall and reinstall from the market if that's the case.

I am using gsam battery and it says that 26.5% (which is the highest) is used by the "android system" everything else is below 5%....and I am rooted as well......my task manager also says the same thing

Get better battery stats from the market

im having the same problem with no luck. everything i try has failed. heres an example:
It gets worse sometimes. Google Service seems to be the reason.

Ok I acquired setcpu from the market and I was going through the forum and about of people say that they use the "badass" profile with "noop" what it's that and what are the settings since they (badass) are not included

Also try out CPU Sleeper: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745516
This is also hosted in google play.
Description of the badass governor:
Badass removes all of this "fast peaking" to the max frequency. On a typical system the cpu won't go above 918Mhz and therefore stay cool and will use less power. To trigger a frequency increase, the system must run a bit @ 918Mhz with high load, then the frequency is bumped to 1188Mhz. If that is still not enough the governor gives you full throttle. (this transition should not take longer than 2-5 seconds, depending on the load your system is experiencing)
Badass will also take the gpu load into consideration. If the gpu is moderately busy it will bypass the above check and clock the cpu with 1188Mhz. If the gpu is crushed under load, badass will lift the restrictions to the cpu.

no I don't have set CPU. I read that you don't need to adjust the settings and it will improve battery. is this true?
I can go under settings then perfromance then processor and adjust min max CPU freq
Not every kernel gives you better battery, some can even drain more power.
Other thing is that sometimes you can't notice much of the improvement in first few cycles. Give it few days and about 3 full cycles. Charge it to 100% and fully discharge.
If that doesn't work try refleshing or using other kernel
Good luck

What's better to use? SetCPU or Stweaks?

Basically I'm trying to lengthen battery life by keeping the cpu in a weak state while the screen is off.
But it almost feels like since I installed SetCPU by battery life decreased?
The only profile I have active is for the cpu to slow down to 500 when screen is off. But Stweaks came with my rom I have installed.
What shall I do?
