[Q]Best Youtube guide for idiots from unbox? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have tried following leedroids steps to flash his custom rom but encountered problems which I wont bore you with. The write up is fantastic but I think I need a youtube guide as I keep getting it wrong.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend the best youtube guides for flashing htc desire hd as soon as its been unboxed. Alot of the guides I have seen start with "you should already have rooted your phone" or something similar.
Just looking for a full comprehensive youtube guide on what to do from the very first step. I've read pretty much every post on here and clicked every link but I am a complete newb and idiot.

I have sometime to help you out...but could you check what version (build number) of stock rom you are using? It would save sometime if you do not have to downgrade your phone.
To check the software version go to Menu-->settings--->About phone---->Software information

Easy root for the Desire?

Hi,
I see the Evo has a simple root process with a program now ( XDA News on main page ), just wondered if anyone is working on a similar program for the Desire as i'm a bit nervous of rooting my phone with the current method, thanks.
There really is nothing to be nervous about! There used to be problems with older methods, but the new method now is virtually foolproof.
Give it a try and if you get stuck or panic then post here for help.
Simple things to remember are follow the steps in whatever guide you use, and let the process finish, be patient as sometimes things look like they are stuck, but they are not!
There is virtually no risk in rooting the Desire now.
Hi
Can u send a link for an very easy way to root the desire??

Hi.
A very good Tutorial with Videos is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084. Take a look and remember to read it all before starting.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask them here. I'll try to answer as much as I can, but other members can help too.
I used the thread mentioned above when I came to root my HTC, everything worked perfectly.
Step-by-step instructions.. can't really go wrong

[Q] desire vs g2 (w/r/t rooting??)

hi all,
i'm a longtime lurker but new poster. i'm happy to say i got a brand new G2 (from t-mobile) yesterday! i'd like to root it but i'm completely confused about the G2 (with new android 2.2 update) vs the Desire. The wiki is titled Desire Z BUT the rooting anchor (at http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2) refers to the G2. Which is it? I don't want to brick my new H2...
Thanks all!
Pzz
The guides in the device section here SHOULD work fine but best to check the HTC VISION: G2 section instead.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
It is confusing having two sets of forums, the G2 ones and the Desire Z ones. I believe they're going to be merged very soon though.
so... they are the same? i just want to know if i can follow the directions in that link? thanks in advance!
yes. the same.

thanks for the help.
i just want to confirm that i can follow those instructions EVEN with the 2.2 update from HTC that came over a couple weeks back. i've never rooted anything and am a bit nervous

Yes, the instructions in the Wiki, which you linked to in your first post above, will work fine for you. Just read them very carefully, and ask questions if you're not sure about any specific bits.
If you're going to be using adb as part of this process, then I suggest you check out this guide to help you get adb up and running on your PC - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865685
yes! that adb guide did the trick and i am successfully rooted (i ran the gfree_verify to verify).
now, where/how do i actually load ROMS? i'm sorry to ask such newb questions but the stickies in the forums here are outdated or don't appear in my search terms. thanks again!

Well done.
Have a look in the Android development forum. You'll find lots of threads there with custom ROMs. Take your time, read up and see if there's a ROM which might be good for you.
Before you leap into that, install ROM Manager on your phone, and use that to flash Clockwork Recovery, that's a custom recovery for your phone. Once you have Clockwork installed, you can do what's referred to as a "nandroid" backup of your phone, which is basically a complete dump of the phone. Do that before you try a new ROM, then if you don't like the new ROM it's incredibly easy just to restore that backup and go back to where you were.
Cyanogen's custom ROM is very very popular, but as I say, take your time and read up.
thanks all for your help!
will have a look now and read up on the differences between the ROMS. I've seen tons of compliments of cyanogen's mod but will try to see the difference
Posting to come back and read later...

[Q] A new HTC One X , where to start ?

Hi guys i bought a HTC One x yesterday. I want to root my phone and install a custom rom like i did before with my lg optimus 2x . I used the search option to find out where to start..so i found something about rooting and followed the instructions and i don't think my phone is rooted because i don't see a superuser app in my phone. There are so many threads, i cant find the best information and tutorials. also searching in this forum with the keyword "root"dont bring me much about rooting. Are there any new methods? what are the exact steps to get a custom rom installed?
thanks alot
Ensure you have Java, Android SDK tools etc.
Visit HTC Dev to unlock bootloader.
Google it mate, just found you a real good tutorial.....

Hi mate, I was in a similiar boat about what to do first and what not to do, and I spent a lot of time worrying and searching around. Eventually I came across this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843585&highlight=noob
I honestly don't think it could be explained any clearer, just spend time reading it and making sure you've got everything and you should be fine, at your own risk of course.
Good luck.

thanks alot! I will try it tonight after work.
any other tutorials and stuff like that?
download CIDGetter from the play store and check your CID. If your CID matches you can Install a JB Custom Rom.

Tbh if you go through this guide you shouldn't need another one, it'll just get complicated, feel free to have a look though.

And yes, keep in mind the latest JB roms but be careful before you try to flash, because if it doesn't match your CID you will run into trouble whether you use the guide or not.
If you want to play it safe stick to an ICS based sense rom for now.
so how do i know it matches ? couldnt find anything about matches. cidgetter says VODAP02
so where can i find a list to see if it matches?

[Q] Trying to unlock/root/flash my Nexus

So I'm going to be honest, we're completely lost here on how we're supposed to get this guy unlocked/rooted. There are no straightforward guides for the new user on how to do this.
Where do I even start? I download a toolkit? Then what?
All these supposed guides or for advanced users.
Do I unlock FIRST or roll back drivers
I always recommend reading up quite a bit before you start rooting and flashing roms, I read up for several days before I began. Also it can be addictive having a rooted phone.
