Is there an app to monitor extended batteries? - EVO 4G Accessories

Just wondering if there is an app to monitor the correct voltage and percent instead of trickle charging it or charging it in an external ? I mean its been out a while now...
Sent from my Evo!

nope, no app, doubt there will ever be one, or a modified kernel specifically for extendeds

Use any SBC kernel, there have been a few people with issues. I have used it for like 3 months with no issues. I use current widget and when it reaches 0 the battery is fully charged.

Bignipp can u explain that again? What widget do u use? I am using an sbc kernel but it didn't seem to charge my battery like the external. Im getting another battery tomorrow well see how that one charges

I guess you were talking to me (2 b's not p's) the widget I use is the current widget. It can be found in the market under that name. It measures current lost to current gained reguardless of the size of the battery so when it says full but still has like 350 mAh until its full to zero you can see it. I have it installed on my home screen. I am running netarchy 4.3.2 (I think it is) kernal with the SBC tweak and no undervolting and no bfs or cfs and it works flawessly.
Hope this helps

+1 for current widget. It'll show you your drain when not charging or net charge when it's on the charger. it'll also keep a CSV log on your SD card so that you can see how your device has been charging /draining over time, along with what services are running at the time the data is polled. It doesn't exactly do what you;re asking, but the phone will turn down the charging current as the battery approaches it's capacity, so you can infer that the battery is getting full when you see the charge current start to drop (the stock kernel starts dropping current around 65%, by the time you're at 90+% you're at around 100mA net charging current, not sure what the values would be with the SBC kernels, or how the stock kernel would behave with the extended battery)

[Q] What the hell is this dip in my battery life?

So, at some point I turned off my phone and I -think- the sudden spike down in battery life is around that time.
Anyone got any explanations?

Mine has done that as well a couple of times. One time I had a charge of around 75%...rebooted my phone, and the battery was down to 15% percent.
Maybe it's just another bug we'll have to deal with until they come out with a fix.
thats strange mine doesnt have that much of a dip
every samsung product I have does this, gt 7, gt 10.1, droid charge, and this one. I don't recall my og droid, evo 4g or 3d doing this.
All phones show a dip when there is a battery pull while the phone is on....

Wasn't a pull, just a shutdown and reboot.

well if your phone was rebooted then that bald would have been reset because it displays monitors since last power-on.
there seems to be a bug where the cpu fails to underclock after a certain amount of usage and/or load. rebooting after intensive apps and/or before leaving the phone idle for extended periods of time seems to solve the problem for me. yes i get that too.

just press on top after you press battery usage on the screen that shows you the battery usage.

Starburst v1.9.8r + Underclock = Great Battery!

Running starburst rom v1.9.8r and its awesome! Thanks phantom for all your work! And thanks to everyone else whose software im using!
Battery life on a few previous roms were a bit low, maby i didnt give my phone long enough to get used to them, but my current set up gives me some of the best battery life I've personally had since before root and starburst v1.8 which were each beast.

Way past my daily charge time and still going strong. connected to wifi a lot, used google navigation for about 90mins of driving, been web browsing a lot/texting/little music/some camera. Nothing spectacular like gaming and videos but my main worry was to make sure i had enough battery at the end of the day to gps back home lol. Dont worry about the few minutes of charging at the end, was showing off netflix through hdmi so kinda needed to have charger plugged in so give or take 2% if you're- why so serious?
Set up:
Sb rom v1.9.8r
LoStKernelExp 1.0.0.8
SetCpu to underclock/undervolt
Viper's LoS Checker v2.1 - default set to check every 2 minutes
ICS green dialer (Idk how that would do anything)
First fully charged phone till blue light, unplugged and turned off, plugged in and let fully charged a few times. Booted straight to recovery and wiped battery data. And yes rebooted and was at 99% but hey.
Also if anyone is worried about performance from underclocking from 1200 to 800, dont be, theres hardly a difference in performance. I play Defender -droidhen- alllll the time and there was absutely 0 performance issues even when using spells and flashy stuff on stage 92. The gps works perfect,no lag between voice and location/distance from next turn (and was on 3g). The single thing i notice is that when on flash heavy web pages, there tends to be a bit more checkerboarding while scrolling up and down, but the pages themselves load up as fast as always.
For the extra bettery life, i think its worth the microscopic performance sacrafice? Anyway I hope this helped anyone wondering about battery life and how I extend my own!
Would love some feedback if anyone is getting better results!
Looks good...still testing tho.
Thanks!

Reduced Battery Capacity

Hi users of HOX,
I have owned this HOX since last April and I was wondering if anyone has the same problem.
From what I know, the HOX will get less charge (around 200mAH instead of 700mAH) when the percentage reaches the 90% mark.
However for my HOX, the reduced charge rate seems to start at 70%.
Does this mean that my battery capacity/life has been hindered and reduced?
Attached is the graph of my battery charge overnight.

Clearly, the slope became a hill at the 70% mark.
Anyone understands what does it mean?
My HOX can't even last more than 5 hours because of this it seems.
P.S.: I am using ICJ421 v1.3.1
it wont make any difference, just means that the last 20 or 30% charges slower - does not affect capacity.

Charging of Li-Ion batteries is in two* phases, constant current, and then constant voltage. During constant voltage, the current will drop off from around a maximum if 1A to nothing (it's not linear). So that's normal. You should expect to see something like a 20% reduction in capacity after 1000 charge cycles.
*Technically there is a third phase that keeps it topped up, but that's not really relevant here, and it's just a repeat of the last bit of the second stage, after capacity has dropped a bit.

[Q] any good way to increase battery life

hello:
my evo 4g battery lasts less than one day.
I googled but didn't find any good suggestions.
if I flash a custom rom to remove all bloatware, does it help?
thanks a lot.
I would also like to know this.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
This should be in the Q&A, I Belive but to answer this question, a lot of things affect battery, first a old battery of course won't last you so long. Second are you running a custom Rom? And overclocking it with like CPU tuner or simmliar.
Are you running your brightness high,is your 4g on all the time, are you using music or social media a lot, playing games and so on.
That being said, moat customs roms can improve battery life to a degree, aswell as the kernel you use and what setting you are running it at, for instance I m running my custom Rom with underworld v8 no halvs sbc kernel
And my governer Set with ondemand at 769 max or something like that, I don't run 4g when I have WiFi, and my screen brightness is set low unless I need it brighter I will change it, I also have a lot of tweeks in my build prop, which a lot of other devs do aswell to help with battery life.
There is a nice section in these forums that explain governers you should read it, you will learn a lot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663809
I get about 2 days with normal use on my setup.
Hope this helps.
Also its always good to wipe battery stats when flashing new roms, also discharge battery fully and then charge it fully.

Custom roms usually have better battery life. On average I get the best life out of the sense 3.5 roms with the aggressive lionfish kernel but the kernel does not support ext4. Sense 3.5 also needs sd-ext partition to run and when changing kernels you must manually mount the data partition before you flash the kernel.

The stock battery doesn't last very long, I'd suggest getting an extended life battery if you plan on keeping your EVO for a while.
I use my evo for music now,I thought I lost it for 2 weeks, this is airplane mode ,running cm9
Underclock, dim brightness, install a lean ROM and take off services you don't need I.g. 4G or 3g.
Other than that. Extended batteries are the way to go.

Kernel that supports battery life extension.

Custom kernels for older phones had a feature that limits battery capacity to ~80?. This dramatically extends the life of your battery, as that last 10?-20? of charging will wear a lithium ion battery down significantly.
See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743977
Im a heavy user, I intend on keeping my HTC 10 for a long time, and I'd like the battery to hold a decent charge 2 years from now.
But after trying a few, I haven't found a kernel/ROM for my HTC 10 that supports this feature...
TL;DR Does anyone know of an HTC 10 kernel that lets you limit the battery capacity?

Make a request to an existing kernel developer to add this as a feature to their kernel.

Aaaaannnndddd it does work on the HTC 10
But if you deactivate charging it STILL shows as the phone charging and STILL has 7V on the Charger, but it draws 0.001Ampere so it's not charging.
Btw:
echo 1000000 > /sys/class/power_supply/battery/constant_charge_current_max
Needs to be typed every time you connect a Charger.

But it gets reseted when the display turns off, so make sure you check the Developer options "Keep screen active while charging"

It works, thank you! But how to set it on boot? All explanations I found were outdated respectively are referring to files which don't exist in Android 6/7 and the app Script Manager – SManager does not work on N at least...
Ohhh, that's why the app crashed xD
I guess any terminal should work.
