[Q] How to restore voicemail app - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do i restore the voicemaill app on my rom, the rom i flashed did not come with one.

Did you back it up with any applications? You could always just search for the apk for the voicemail.
Sent from my Evo Killer!!!

Do you have any other roms? Just open up the .zip and grab the apk from /data/apps or /system/apps. I don't remember which one.

[Q] Restoring SMS

Hey I need a little help.
I need to restore the mmssms.db file onto my phone after wiping it. I tried putting it back in its place using adb push but the phone won't pull up the old messages. Could someone help me out with this? The rom i am using is the Cyanogen mod 6.1 rc2 on the incredible.
Did you just change roms and trying to restore old texts? Did you back up old one?

yes i have the original mmssms.db file and after switching to the cyanogen mod i pushed the file back on. However, when i go to read my messages there are no messages, but the file in there is the old mmssms.db file. Also I completely backed up my old rom in case i need to revert
Restore old Rom. Download sms mms back up and restore from market. Make a back up. Restore new Rom and download app again, open and restore all messages

Well i was hoping i could figure out more about why that file works the way it does. That will do the trick for sure though.

Original .db file is always wiped clean on factory data reset that you had to do to flash new rom. As the poster above me said, use sms restore app

Of course the .db file is wiped. That's why he said that the pushed the old file with all this messages back onto the phone after flashing.
@SerenadeX: Did you reboot after pushing the file back?
Yeah i tried that but there was no change in my messages. There was, however a change in my search. I could search for terms that were in my messages but they would not pull up on the message in box. For example if i started typing the word fish the suggestion would come up for fish and when i search it it would come up with no results but the suggestions were so specific even to names. Its weird.
Your old .db file, is that from the stock (Sense) ROM?
yes it is.
That's probably what the problem is then. My gut says that the DB schemas between the stock ROM and CM are different. That would explain why just copying the .db file from one to the other doesn't work.
You'll need a program that will export the DB and re-import it correctly. There's quite a few SMS backup/restore apps in the market, many free. I haven't found anything free that will both backup and restore MMS messages though, so if you have any of those that you really want to keep you'll need to either buy something or go without those.

[SOLVED] Extract Swype .apk?

Hey all,
I've got a G2 running CM7 RC2. One of the things that I loved about the stock rom was that swype was included. Unfortunately, CyanogenMod only has the default on-screen android keyboard. I made a backup image of my stock rom right before I installed CM. Is there any way that, if I backup my current configuration and reflash my backup of the stock rom, I could copy the package for swype over to the SD card to be reinstalled on CM? Even better yet, could I directly extract it from that image?
I could take the easy (warez) way out, but that isn't as appealing.
Thanks,
-Trey
Swype is open Beta last time I checked. Just go get it for yourself.
Swype extract program
If you have a nandroid backup of a ROM with functioning Swype (which it sounds like you do), there's an app around somewhere on here called SwypeRestore.apk that does it for you. Sorry I don't have it right now.

Yeah go to swypes website and get it....takes less than time than making this thread

Ghost voicemail symbol

Is there any easy way to get rid of the voicemail symbol that is always in my status bar. I have no voicemails, I've cleared data in titanium backup, I've tried everything. I just wanted to see if anybody had any ideas.

Well first of all what ROM are you running? Should be under settings -->call settings towards the bottom somewhere but that should hopefully lead you to it.
I bet he's using an AOSP ROM, and yes, there IS a way.
The most common way is to activate another phone and go through a whole dumb procedure, but it works.
Now how I did it, but stupidly, I can't remember how I did it
I FOUND it!! How I fixed the Ghost VM Icon on MIUI, which should work for an AOSP ROM.
If you didn't make a Nandroid of your phone, Stock/Rooted, find on on here and flash it, after you make a nandroid of your current setup.
Once you're in Stock/Rooted, open market and make sure VVM is updated. Then d/l Titanium Backup and make a backup of VVM.
Now, nandroid back to MIUI, and extract the app from the Titanium .apk backup.
The actual name is com.coremobility.app.vnotes-6334abeb61350a3ac2629cb6dc18c56e.apk.gz
Unzip that and extract com.coremobility.app.vnotes-6334abeb61350a3ac2629cb6dc18c56e.apk to your sd card. Using Root Explorer, or whatever you use, install the apk.
Open TB, and restore data.
Open VVM, compose a message to yourself.
Done
I'm on miui. I was gonna try the activate another phone trick.

[Q] GB custom ROM and sprint apps? or how to?

Ok I know some of you out there like the sprint app's I have a friend that likes them.
So I am curious is there any packages with the sprint apps like nfl and nascar etc. That will work on the new custom GB roms? Or how I can get them and test them.
If I am missing it somewhere please point me in the right direction.
Thanks.

Grab the first Deodexed ROM posted by ACS and just use 7zip to pull them out of the ROM package and push them to your phone with root explorer. They will be in the system/app directory.
Here is one that should have all stock apps:

Ok thanks I will try that, and test that.
I like Sprint TV myself, I have kept a copy safe with Titanium Backup. You would have to go back to stock then make a backup of the apps to want then reflash your desired rom, download TB and restore the apps you want. There is an easier way im sure. Im new at this.

[Q] 3.5 scence voice mail

Does anybody know a another voicemail app that I can use? I am a running a scence 3.5 rom and sprints vvm did not come with it.
You could try Google voice but I would not recommend it because people including myself have had issues with it. Or you could try a different Sense rom.

Here is the app. You need to have vvm backed up in something like Titanium Backup, so if you have a nandroid where it was working, go back, back it up, come back to your current ROM, then install this with Root Explorer, et al, and then use Titanium to restore Data only.
Also, add this the zip file of the ROM in the system/app/ folder, then if you ever reflash it, Voice Mail will be installed with it
voicemail
Thanks, hopefully I have it backup in TB.

Anyway to get that vvm or is that unique to each phone? I sort of didn't make a full backup. I only kept what I wanted. I assumed voicemail was one of those things that would just work :/
Am using Google Voice right noe and it ain't that bad. Just miss stock voicemail.
