Ghost voicemail symbol - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any easy way to get rid of the voicemail symbol that is always in my status bar. I have no voicemails, I've cleared data in titanium backup, I've tried everything. I just wanted to see if anybody had any ideas.

Well first of all what ROM are you running? Should be under settings -->call settings towards the bottom somewhere but that should hopefully lead you to it.

I bet he's using an AOSP ROM, and yes, there IS a way.
The most common way is to activate another phone and go through a whole dumb procedure, but it works.
Now how I did it, but stupidly, I can't remember how I did it

I FOUND it!! How I fixed the Ghost VM Icon on MIUI, which should work for an AOSP ROM.
If you didn't make a Nandroid of your phone, Stock/Rooted, find on on here and flash it, after you make a nandroid of your current setup.
Once you're in Stock/Rooted, open market and make sure VVM is updated. Then d/l Titanium Backup and make a backup of VVM.
Now, nandroid back to MIUI, and extract the app from the Titanium .apk backup.
The actual name is com.coremobility.app.vnotes-6334abeb61350a3ac2629cb6dc18c56e.apk.gz
Unzip that and extract com.coremobility.app.vnotes-6334abeb61350a3ac2629cb6dc18c56e.apk to your sd card. Using Root Explorer, or whatever you use, install the apk.
Open TB, and restore data.
Open VVM, compose a message to yourself.
Done

I'm on miui. I was gonna try the activate another phone trick.

I know on cm7 there was an option to disable voicemail notification. I have never used that ROM sorry :/

Restore SMS on CM7/MIUI?

MIUI and CM7 both say to do a full wipe and not restore system settings, otherwise you risk getting random bugs.
As far as I've been able to figure out, my SMS messages are stored in system settings in Titanium Backup.
So is there any way to get them back without doing a full system settings restore?

I don't think so, because when you restore the system file it would also restore other things from the previous Rom...
There is a app to back up sms. So best thing would be go back to Rom you were using and use that app, I don't know the name of but its in the market, and then you will always have them because of the app no matter what Rom you are on

Thanks.
I prefer the idea of storing them on SD card rather than Gmail so "SMS Backup & Restore" seems to do the job nicely.
Only caveat is it doesn't backup MMS.
The market app "syncmypix" does a great job of pulling FB pics into the native GB contacts app.
For anyone else making the jump...

[Q] messaging

Hey guys. So I was in terminal deleting the stock apps that I don't need to have and one of those apps which I deleted was the stock messaging app, I did this because I was using hancent. Well now I am not receiving any pictures.
- It all started after I deleted the stock app, I am not sure if it started immediately after or a while after
- I was using handcent and I noticed that I was getting the pop up received thing and the quick reply option but in the actual handcent app under each conversation the incoming message was not there.
Are there any suggestions to fix this or knowledge about this topic? Do you need to have the stock messaging app in order to have other messaging apps work? I can send pictures and texts; i can receive texts but not pictures...
You need the stock app. The 3rd party apps just piggyback off it.

I tried that and it didnt work...Not giving me the option to restore....
Did you make a backup? Or just reflash the Rom.

eveything I removed i backed up first through titanium back.. I see a little blue check next to it and it says data only..Not giving me a option to restore it..
Like I said before, just reflash the Rom you're using and start over. Nandroid is your friend

or manually push it. if you tell me what rom you're running, i'll make you a flashable zip. also, did you delete the messaging.providers.apk or the messaging.apk?
nvm i can just make a zip with both.
Hope you got it fixed. That's hard one to pick which forum it goes in lol either here or the Q/A.
I am using the stock rom. I just wanted root which I used unrevoked 3 to give me root. I removed messages 1.00 and messages wiget 2.2. I removed them with titanium backup. Thanks..
here you go dude. stock mms apk pushed to system/app by this zip.
I found the stock app and installed it...It worked...thanks

Backing up contacts? Those should be with google good friend. If you're saving them to the phone instead of through Google, well, I don't know why you would do that.
Did you use Titanium Backup at all? That will probably help with apps and their corresponding data. And no, there is no way to get back to your old nandroid without a PC. You HAVE to use Odin to go back to EC05 and from there, after you one-click root, you should be able to restore your nandroid assuming you're still using the same version of CWM you made the backup with.

If you are using the EpicMTD CM 7.2.0 RC0 Rom, I had the same problem. You need to go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20784134&postcount=1
Scroll down till you see GAPPS and download that zip file and flash it in CWM.

To get a theme I just download any regular theme from the "themes" forums? Or is there a specific place to get themes for this rom?

Go to the market and search CM7 themes. There are tons!
Just install one and then go into theme chooser and apply it! Simple as that!

Titanium Backup Pro Questions.....

I have been flashing roms & kernels for the past few years so I don't think I am a "noob". I am in no means a "know it all" either. I have been using Titanium Backup Pro to backup everything before flashing roms. It's great, but I still end up taking 20 minutes to restore everything back to normal. I have seen other posts about the correct way to backup/restore, but I never get a straight answer on the easiest/correct way. Do I let the market redownload my apps or do I let Titanium? Restore user data, system data? I hear about others restoring everything back to normal like email, texts, passwords etc. Please help.... Thanks

Restoring user downloaded apps is fine, but restoring system data always monkeys everything up.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
I've always restored user apps through titanium, but as the guy above me stated hold off on the data. If need be, the apps where you really need the data do them one by one so you know which one fudges up your system, if any do.
Once I know I'm going to switch roms, I always back all user apps up, then after I load the rom I want, I go ahead and run titanium before the market loads anything. It just takes to long for the market to redownload everything, in most instances.

Yea titanium way faster than market attempting to re download plus it always misses some and your days gets congested from 50+ apps trying all install at once

Do you run the batch operation?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
If you want.. you can look into Mybackup root/pro. I always use that to backup my data and apps. It's very straight forward. You can choose DATA and backup sms, mms, android home, settings, playlists etc... then use APP to backup APPS, or APPS +DATA. check it out.. but remember after each backup or restore, restart for best results.

How do you get ti backup on your phone after a new rom is installed, but without accessing the market? most roms dont come with it preinstalled.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Most the time I go to the market and dl it... There were a few devs that did have it in the rom when I had my g2.
Just read that you posted without going to the market. When you buy the pro, its always for dl in the market, just the serial though. So you have to redownload the free version through the market. Don't think there is another way, that I know of.

I will add, that mybackup is pretty cool. I'm not even rooted with a mytouch4gslide and you can still backup everything. With titanium, you have to be rooted.

While I am a large fan of Titanium, I would have to think that not being rooted would restrict it's functionality quite a bit. Anyone care to comment?

There is an option in Titanium Backup to create a Flashable Zip that you can install within Recovery. In Titanium Backup, Press MENU, then press MORE and it'll be on that list.

Huh very interesting. thanks for the tip.
Im guessing we should choose the edify scripting method. would you apply the .zip in the same manner as flashing a rom? via the "install zip from sd card" option?

Sweet. from now on i can be stingier with my data usage.

This is the best way I restore after a wipe:
1. TI Pro for batch USER apps and data only -- do not use batch on system files
2. TI Pro for these system files: bookmarks, user dictionary, and wi-fi access points, only. I only use the "DATA Only" option in Ti Pro for these files.
3. I use from market, Call logs Backup & Restore to get my call logs back.
4. I always do a nandroid before flashing a new rom, and then use AppExtractor (free from market) to go to my nandroid to restore my SMS and MMSs. This works better than using TI Pro for sms and mms restore.
It sounds more complicated than it is. It actually is quite simple. I would simply stay away from using Ti Pro for restoring any system files if you can.

I haven't had any issues with restoring apps with TB on my rooted SGIII. Haven't heard of anyone else having problems either (but know that a lot of people are using it successfully). I've used it with every rom I've flashed.
What do you mean when you say it "appears" you can't use it?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Don't you have to pay for it to restore backups across different Android versions? I could be mistaken. TB is the reason I rooted mine it the first place after I got the GSIII to replace my Epic 4G.
You should only have to pay for the full version with all of the GOODIES. You should download root checker to see if your fully rooted. you may be missing busybox or some other vital part. TB seems to be working for everyone else I know that has an S III.
I quess maybe the ui is different from the evo. I would press menu button then select batch and restore that way. Now i don't even see a batch option but when i first go i to the app it gives me a msg that i need to check unknown sources or something to allow other apps to be installed hell i don't even see that as a option.
Upper right hand corner icon will bring up the options for batch operations.

You will need to check the unknown sources box. From home screen: menu, settings, security, scroll down to unknown sources, check box, done.
Also, one of the recent updates (not sure which one) they moved the batch ops to the top right corner.
Good Luck!
Note that TB also make backups of system apps, and system apps are not always compatible with every ROM out there. So TB wont be able to restore them.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium HD app
not to hijack the OP, but is it possible to create a zip of your apps in TB so after reflashing a rom you could just flash that zip while in recovery and upon rebooting, your apps would already be installed?
I don't think TB does that, but there is an app in the the Play store that does make a flashable zip of your apps. App2zip or something like that.
