Possible to change my IP address? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In Windows you can reset the router, ipconfig/release and all that jazz...is there a way to reset (change) the IP address of an Android phone?
Thanks!

use termanal emulator and type su for super user access and then ifconfig becasue android is linux based

And this will change my phone's IP address? Wow, thanks!

Toggle airplane mode. After you reconnect, you'll get a different IP.

Neither of those seem to work...

What specific IP address are you trying to change?
How is your android device connecting to the internet?

Just turn mobile network off and on. That will give you new ip.

You can use some Android Apps to change IP address. Get the app from appszoom.com and install it. After which you can check the change in your ip address using Ip-details.com

Use a proxy.

I guess you can bump a 2 year old thread

mac address

Does anyone know how I can find out the mac address of my xda IIs ? I have a dreytek wireless router at home which uses a mac based access control list. I've tried the addresses that appear in wireless LAN manager ( BSSID and MAC ) but no joy. The only way I can connect is to switch off the access list feature completely
jeff
Hi Jeff,
Switch off the Access control, and let the XDA IIs join the wireless network. Then go into Diagnostic Tools --> View DHCP assigned addresses, and you will get a list of MAC addresses, IP addresses and hosts on the network. Match your phone's name to the MAC address.
Then you can turn access control on again and input the phone's mac address into the "allowed" list.
Thanks for the reply. I've kind of done that as you can see from the DHCP table below
DHCP server: Running
Index IP Address MAC Address Leased Time HOST ID
1 192.168.1.1 00-50-7F-23-97-CC ROUTER IP
2 192.168.1.10 00-00-00-00-00-00 BAD IP
3 192.168.1.11 00-0D-61-4E-A7-F7 0:00:04.600 hubbo
4 192.168.1.12 00-09-2D-0E-49-61 9:24:34.170
(not sure about that BADIP line ! )
I would say my MAC is 00-09-2D-0E-49-61 but it's still not working.... odd.
Is there no way that you can tell the MAC address from the phone without connecting to a network.
Here is a freeware that will allow you to find your MAC with no connection. I used it on my PDA2K.
http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/vxipconfig.shtml
Install on your device. Just turn the wifi on and run the program and it will give you the MAC and additional device info. Don't have the PPC connected to the USB or it will identify that device.
Sorted thanks, whilst in PC World I scanned for a Wireless network, and found three, hehe! Once connected used that utility to get my MAC.
Many thanks!

Anonymize Wifi tethering

I am interested in tehtering my T989 data plan to my laptop. Is there a way to hide or disguish my IP so that none of my phone details can be found?
Need more info. you want to hide the details of your phone cos you want to keep the internet open? why do you want to do that?
I want to be able to use my laptop with my phone's internet.
If I did a IP search on my laptop, will it give any IP address or information that would link it to my phone.
I want to remain anonymous on my laptop as thought no one knew that I was tethering from my phone.
Your IP is given to you by your çarrier. You can't change it . You can spoof but that's not hiding but rather pretending your someone else

No because packets with your Mac address will be sent to T-Mobile...
I believe almost like D.O.R.A in DHCP
Hiding your IP is useless...

You could use TOR https://www.torproject.org/
Or get a VPN (Virtual Private Network)

[Q] Change ip ?

cant find a way to change my ip address (wifi)
when you use a repeater that connects to your gateway, you cant connect through the default ip. I need to assign one
any way?
Using AOKP jb
Are you sure you've got your wifi network configured properly? Ive got a similar setup (main router upstairs that hands out IP addys, another router acting as repeater downstairs that I connect to) and I dont have any issues...

Well mine is the modem connected to a switch. An access point connectec to that and a repeater afterwards xD so yeah the ip address that the windows/android generates cannot connect to the gateway
There.might be a way to optimize this but am also curious about changing the ip address of my phone

Your modem is the DHCP server, so that is what should be assigning an IP, not windows or andriod. If you cant hit your gateway (which should be your modem BTW), changing your IP wont fix your issue. Youve got a disconnect somewhere.
That said, first you need the subnet of your DHCP pool. Something like 192.168.1.100-200. That info is in your router/modem. Then, just manually change the IP of your phone to an IP in that subnet.

You are absolutely right. but I can hit my gateway. I mostly have a problem with the dhcp assigning wrong IPs and I still cant sort it out. But am assigning the clients manually to different IP in my subnet and everything works fine

I would suspect that the repeater is handing out IP's as well. I believe what you are looking for is a repeater bridge which would connects wireless a to wireless a but b doesn't do any routing just passes it along to a. Here's a picture.

when you sign onto your computer do you have a sign on and password that you have to use? It sounds like it since you are getting an authentication error.
At my office to connect to the corporate wi-fi, I have to use my domain credentials and a proxy server:
domain\username (sometimes entered as [email protected])
Password
proxy server address/port number
If it is that complex then you probably have an IT department that should be able to help you connect. You would enter this stuff on your phone in the advanced options when you try to connect to the wi-fi.

Thanks for the reply, i work for a super small company. I do log in with a password for the computer but nothing fancy. The it department is literally one guy across the country who would definitely not help me get wifi on my phone. How would i find out the proxy number and port number?
Through the router settings. Check for proxy and other options. Most routers have a default ip and password.

Open wifi may allow you to connect but require you to log into a web site via password or accepting terms and allowing your device to save a cookie for a session. That is how out wifi works. I can only use it about 15 minutes at a time before the cookie dies and I have to re log in.

why is it illegal? my router clones my PCs mac address. is that illegal?
ip link (lists the current interfaces)
then
ifconfig blahblah0 down
ifconfig blahblah0 hw ether 00:11:A2:B3:C4:5D
ifconfig blahblah0 up
This works on a regular linux machine. I'm not sure if it works on a android. if it doesn't, a reboot reverts the changes.
