hello,
can you guys pick up different signal carrier in your hd7?
i am using T-mobile HD7 and the signal is not stable in my place (i have few drop calls). the Verizon signal is much better and i can pick it up from this menu >start>setting>cellular>network selection>
I can force the phone using Verizon, but the problem is after the choosing, the cellphone did not show any signal bars. <most likely phone can not register in the network>. it is wired. any ideas?
tmobile phones cannot use cdma networks, different radios, different technologies.
can a AT&T or cellular network be used in this phone? t-mobile signal is so terrible in my place.

yes you can use at&t if you sim unlock your phone. T-mobile might do it for you or you can pay one of the web based companies that do it.
You won't have 3g though.
Why did you get a t-mobile phone if you don't have t-mobile reception???
nope. AT&T work off different network signal than the others do so you won't have much luck. and i'm not sure if the HD7 from t-mobile supports the band (network signal) that AT&T uses. so you could try but i highly doubt it.
t-mobile signal is not good in my place.
to be honest with you, I hate AT&T and verizon.

Hey guys, new to Android and T-Mobile. I got a G2 last week, and I live and work in kind of a fringe area for T-Mo coverage. AT&T has good coverage out here, but the G2 doesn't roam over to ATT, I can't even register on their system when I select it in the mobile networks settings. My question is- how can I set the phone to roam onto their system when I lose T-Mo coverage? (I have heard that T-Mo can roam to ATT on EDGE). Thanks!
As far as I know, the only way to use AT&T on the G2 would be to SIM unlock the phone and use an AT&T SIM with an AT&T account. The TMO SIM won't just allow you to roam because they don't have a reciprocal billing agreement --- though I am no expert on this.
I believe, though I could be wrong, that the G2 does not have the ability for 3G (UMTS) data on AT&T. As you stated, if you could connect to the network, Edge should work.
One solution would be to switch to an AT&T SIM and use the Samsung Vibrant, which has the ability to connect to one of the two AT&T 3G bands. Of course, if you want to use AT&T regularly, getting an AT&T phone would be a better solution. So, for you, unless you want to switch to AT&T, wifi might be your only solution.
Ugh! That is exactly what I was hoping I wouldn't read lol. Well, I do really want to stick with tmo, just wish my phone would auto roam to att when I lose the tmo signal. Thanks for the reply!

I asked around at work a bit, and there are cases where you can roam on AT&T's network. These cases exist in areas where T-Mobile has not, cannot, or will not build out a network. In these cases, they contract with AT&T to provide their customers with network access. Some phones will show roaming, but I think the software, at this point, has made it a seamless experience, and you don't even know you are attached to AT&T's network. For billing, purposes, if you have a national plan, you are not roaming.
This doesn't help you, but I wanted to clarify my blanket statement above.
Check out the coverage map (Select NO for Are you a Rep, then go to the Data Coverage Map):
compass(DOT)t-mobile(DOT)com
Unfortunately in your area of CA, there is no roaming partner.
The only roaming in CA is in some parts of N. CA up Hwy 1 and 101, towards the Oregon border, and in the 395 corridor.
I'm thinking of upgrading from my HTC Rhodium on ATT to a Desire Z (also on ATT). Is there anything I should be looking for to make sure it will play nice with the 3G network?
Thanks

You'll need to buy the Canadian version of the DZ (from Bell Mobility).
was wondering if the epic 4g could be used in canada on the bell or rogers(or actually any carrier for that matter)? does sprint sell the cellphone unlocked?
better yet, has an international version(that will work in canada) been released/announced?
from what I know, bell has a CDMA network, but i've never used a phone without a sim card before and i'm honestly not sure how it works.
as a last note, i honestly don't care about the 4g capabilities, 3g is enough for my needs.
I thought all of canada was gsm. I may be mistaken. I know rodgers is. If I an right the answer is no

I have one on virgin (CDMA in manitoba), but am having a heck of a time getting data working...
anyone have any thoughts on this?
I won't discuss how I got it working (Against board rules) but I just wanted to know if anyone know of a fix for my data. I flashed the PRL to a bell PRL, set the APN via an APN app (since the option is blocked out normally).
I also tried the Epic 4g on boost tutorial, but it didn't give me any hex info (presumably because I was taking info from a blackberry)
Thanks if anyone can help
I'm 99.9 percent sure 1xRTT (~153kbit/sec) is the best you'll get in Canada -- if that -- with an American CDMA-only phone. AFAIK, all of Canada's CDMA carriers deployed UMTS instead of EV-DO.
Canada's mobile phones are slightly exotic, because Telus & Bell have legacy CDMA voice, but 3G-GSM for data. I think 2-3 years ago, you could use an imported European 3G gsm phone, but ONLY in 3G UMTS mode -- they couldn't "fall back" to classic TDMA-based GSM, because the network *itself* didn't support it (yet). Official Telus phones literally used CDMA for voice, but UMTS for data. However, I'm pretty sure you can NOW fall back to legacy
GSM, even on Telus (I guess they had to wait until enough customers had GSM phones to repurpose a chunk of 1900 spectrum that was formerly used exclusively for CDMA, or maybe they just roam on Rogers or Bell for GSM voice).

Well I'm on virgin mobile which has EVDO coverage on bell's network here in manitoba. I know this because I ported this phone from an EVDO blackberry (it was a pain in the ass). Also MTS still uses EVDO here as well, but that's going to be short lived as they are in a partnership with Rogers to cover the province with HSPA+. That said there will still be support for legacy devices on their existing towers.
But either way I have no data connection at all. I only show the bars for signal (no other symbols), but I flashed the PRL so it's at least not showing up as roaming anymore lol. I'm also getting the stupid sprint activation message every time I boot, and Error 67 authentication error pops up every once in a while.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?
Try reading the Epic on boost threads.
I tried it, but it didn't work, but perhaps I will post my issue and someone will have a solution
did you ever getting working?

Has anyone here bought an unlocked AT&T S3 to use on the MetroPCS/Tmobile network? If so has there been any issues? shorter battery life, bad connectivity?
I am debating getting the S3 unlocked or HTC One S. I would prefer the HTC One S but it doesn't have microSD slot
I have a SGH T999 Lte at&t branded unlocked and use on TMobile with the T999L lte rom with no ill effects.

Is that the same model as my phone? So it would be advisable, after I got the S3 to flash it with a MetroPCS ROM after activation by Metro?
I thought there would be no need of a flash if I got an unlocked phone.

You will have issues with 3G HSPA+ on 1700mhz, but 2G EDGE & 4G LTE will work just fine. If you live in a large metro area with a lot of LTE coverage it will be fine. I just went through this with my wife's phone, she had to have the Red one (AT&T specific).

There is no need to flash anything, just unlock it and add/edit the APN for TMo.

Sweet thanks! Both areas that I frequent have 4G and LTE coverage. My only concern is when I'm driving long distances which I often do, being in college and losing 2G signal in the middle of no where. So far with my Metro phones, I haven't seen anywhere I had 3G coverage. its always 2G and 4G/LTE

Good, that is exactly what we are seeing as well. Mostly LTE coverage with EDGE to fallback on. Most all Metro areas and major highways/interstates will have good coverage. Funny enough we live in the middle of nowhere, but there is a major highway nearby so we get LTE coverage.
On a side note, US carriers marketed HSPA as 3G and HSPA+ as 4g, but both are technically 3G. True 4G is LTE. I am not sure if Metro ever had HSPA service, I think that they were just CDMA then later added LTE and have been migrated to TMo's GSM/HSPA network which now uses Metro's LTE as well. Only the newer GSM Based phones would connect to HSPA.

4.3 rooted.. I got data now that I flashed a modem but its very slow datai don't know how to find the right 1..heres what the one I downloaded is called modem_CWM_I747UCUEMJB
Define Slow data please. Post Speed test results.
normally around 0.15mbs but sometimes it works great and I get around 15.00mbs
Given this is not an LTE device, that sounds about right. Weather, tower congestion do affect results.

The I747 is an LTE device, my wife's (running on TMo) works just fine on LTE, just not HSPA+ 1700MHz. I'll run speed test if people would like.
Unlocked att siii will not access metro/t-mobile data
Can someone verify for me what the correct apn settings are? Should there be a network operator? And since I think the apn is finally right, do you have any more suggestions? Also, do you know if this is CDMA or GSM?
can I ask why people want to buy an ATT phone to use on a Tmobile carrier? On the S4 and Note versions, people buy Tmobile phones and use them on ATT, myself included. This is because of the bootloader, and the Tmobile phones cover ATT LTE channels while not the opposite.
Wasn't planned
I didn't intentionally set out to buy an AT&T phone, I was just looking to upgrade and this was the best deal. Or at least it looked to be on the surface. Do I just need to forget it and try to sell it?
If you are in an area recently upgraded by T-Mobile, the I747 will work just fine. However, if you are in an are not upgraded with LTE, etc, it's waay more trouble than its worth. The above post about not getting HSPA+21/42 is worth considering too though.
T-Mobile and AT&T are both GSM networks btw.

I am actually on Metro P.S, but they are on the T-mobile network now in Atlanta, Ga where I live. We do run 4glte,but so far the fastest mine will connect to shows "E" on my phone, edge maybe? One of the many I've spoken with at metro said E is 3g. One of their repair techs said I needed a different SIM card because I had a CDMA phone but when I got to the store that had one he said it was a GSM phone. It's already about been more trouble than it is worth, but as much effort as I've put into it already, I'd like to resolve it.
According to the guy at the Verizon store, who I plan to upgrade to in November when my contract is up due to T-Mobiles terrible service, seems to think that since it is a SIM phone, and Verizon's new network phones (4G / XLTE) use a SIM card, that I can unlock my TMO phone and it will be able to then be assigned a new IMEI so that I can use it on a Verizon network...
Think this is true and if so, how do I do this? I don't know that I want to upgrade phones... I love my N2 and will only upgrade if there is a Note 4 out by then...

As far as i know, Verizon uses a hybrid cdma/lte network. Voice is still handled through the cdma2000 antennae and network, whereas data (in lte coveted areas) by lte anrennae and network. If this holds true, shoving a Verizon SIM into a tmous phone will only give you data in lte covered areas. Assuming the sgh-t889 has the right band requirements to function on Verizons network.
In a nutshel: it is a very very long shot. Either way, you're guaranteed not to be able to make phonecalls.
Unfortunately, i have no sources to present you. This is just gleamed knowledge aqwired from countless hours of googletubing.
It is extremely possible the cdma functionality is just switched off, and could be jtagged. But that's way over my head.
I wouldn't bet on it. Even with VoLTE I doubt it would work all that well on LTE. Then if you are in a non LTE area you are SOL.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I cancelled service with verizon, and put my att sim card into this phone.
But the best data connect I can get is edge (2g). I don't expect this phone to get ATT's lte network, but is there a way to get 3g data connection? Edge is just too slow.
Also, is voice quality tied with network type? I feel the voice quality was worse in comparison to my ATT phone. But the signal shows full bars.
Thanks.
Edit: today it magically worked. I don't know what happened, as I didn't do anything to it. It is now running on HSPA+, with very nice speed.

Yes, after setting it up I was able to connect to EDGE. But that is only 2g speed. I read online that many people were able to connect to 3g (HSPA+).
Some of them mentioned reporting IMEI to ATT. Would this matter?

Try to call ATT and make sure they provision your SIM card with 4G LTE service. (you might need an IMEI that is compatible with ATT LTE for them to activate that option)
