I'm running CM7-21 and I have two questions.
1) Is there any resolution with the dark front camera? The back works great.
2) I read that I need to set my wifi to never sleep (or I have to reset the connection). This works great, but won't that kill my battery?
Thanks all

1) Not really. It's a bug that's being worked on.
2) Yes, so only turn on WiFi when you need it
To elaborate on #2. It will only kill your battery if you do not have wifi signal. Wifi takes less battery than 3g so being connected to wifi will use less battery. But if you have wifi on and leave the wifi signal it will keep searching and drain your battery.
Thanks. Hopefully the wifi will start waking up automatically. If I keep it at default, I have to toggle it off than on to work.

I have extended controls and i've tried several others like it but nothing seems to have a toggle to turn 3G off. 2G/3G toggles don't work and neither does turning off mobile data (APN), I guess that's for GSM networks.
At work i get really poor reception and I'd like to be able to toggle 3G off (turn data off) to save battery.
Thanks ahead of time!
Are you rooted?

Yes i'm rooted, running starburst 1.6
Not sure if this is the one that you already have but turning off data works perfect for me in 1.6.

Here is my solution with launcher pro. You can do an activity shortcut with AnyCut and test the Various DATAs for the one that allows for the selection of Hybrid/CDMA/EVDO. Launcher pro is a little more detailed in it's selection process.

I currently use Widgetsoid which can control many things but if you want just a 3G on/off toggle, I know that Data Switch does work with our phones, I've used it before.
Is there any wall to turn the cell radio off, but leave the bluetooth radio on? I have bluetooth headphones that I want to use at the gym, but there is almost zero cell signal there, so I want to turn the cell radio off so it does not kill my battery.
Any way to do it?

Try turning on airplane mode then turning Bluetooth on. It works for wifi, so maybe Bluetooth as well

Thanks. I had tried that while I was at the gym, but it did not work.
Mine seemed to work fine

I tried that, didn't work either. Don't know if there's a way to do it. You may have to just shut data off while at the gym.
yeah - shutting data off will probably help some, but the cell radio will still be boosting output looking for a signal and killing the battery.

Anyone figure this out for TW roms? I use the People's rom and would love this feature!
(i.e. being able to turn on airplane mode and then still be able to enable bt).
Just wondering if anyone knows why when I turn of data especially, my phone can go 24 hours in one charge but leaving data on all the time diminishes the battery life. Is it a modem thing? I always had battery issue but turning off data seems to help a check lot. Thanks in advanced.

Do you often leave the coverage area? Because constantly searching for network when there is none will eat battery. Also If you have data on it will allow background apps to use the internet, which consumes power as well.
You probably are getting a much stronger signal when it isn't trying to stay connected to mobile data.
The weaker your signal the greater the battery drain. Often when you enable data you get a weaker sig.
Also make sure its not set to wcdma only.

I'm in pretty good coverage area.

It is pretty normal for you to have more battery consumption with the data on than off. I had a myTouch 3G slide that could go for 3 days if I left the data off. Check to see if you have any apps that are being synchronized too often because that could be causing your phone to die quicker than normal.
With data off apps can't update(refresh) right? That should keep them from waking the system up.

Try having wifi on when possible if you dont want to disable data.

lol! My slide was/is a beast! Dropped, kicked, slammed, scraped, you name it! Not a scratch on the glass! Cover looks like it was in an explosion!
Still use it for an alarm.

If they are set to sync they will still try. You have to turn off sync. But if they can't get out they still don't transmit so still less battery use.

Yeah that will probably fix the issue. When I was on TW, under the battery tab, I noticed that my phone would wake often during the night. Now with the data off, it stays asleep longer. I think ill have to use something like juice defender that enables and disabled data automatically

I want to save battery life ....
I do not know about the app but there is one problem. Sometimes I download large files and i do not want to keep my screen awake all the time. But if it switches the connection to 2g from 3g (or vica versa) it disconnects for one second and the download fails.. So that could be a problem for downloading large files.

if can set the timer, that problem can fix
Juice defender can do that I think. Haven't tried it myself I don't use that app anymore, but I believe there was an option in it to toggle between 3g and 2g. However, you have to have root access and a kernal/rom that supports it. Stock kernals don't support allowing you to switch between 2g to 3g without doing it manually yourself through the settings, so you probably need to find a custom one that does.

You'll need a mod ROM to get full use of Tasker for battery improvement. Stock ROM doesn't allow 2G/3G switching.
I understand that CM10 allows this.
Someone should confirm, as I've stuck to rooted stock rom in SIII and plan to keep the same on Note II.

Wi-Fi control on this phone is a bit flakey. Use this app and your issue should be solved.

Yeah there are 3rd party apps knocking about but was hoping that I just missed a setting.
Tbh im astounded that this phone doesnt turn off wifi when out of range from my home network. Asus gave this phone every app known to man but cant auto turn off wifi ?
Cheers anyway
They will most likely fix it in an update. With early versions it would not even remember the Wi-Fi sleep settings.

I've never seen a built-in app to turn WiFi off when leaving a specific network.

My previous phone, Lenovo A830 had it, worked flawlessly, wasnt an app though, just a setting feature.
