Hey, is 1.72.405.3 update available for desire HD....I am in India n whn i chk for the update, it shows no new updates. I am still stuck on 1.32. How can i get the new one??
Don't even try to update to 1.72, many users reports bugs with notifications, phone asking randomly for PIN code, etc.
Search in the forums you'll see that HTC did a really big mistake. This update is also not available anymore when your search it with OTA updates.
However, if you really want to update, I don't know if you can grab it on the web.
Hello,
I don't have the answer to your question... kidding, you can download the 1.72.405.3 WWE on XDA, but be warned: if you upgrade to it, you will lose root if you have it.
The best to do before is:
0- get a goldcard if your DHD is branded
1- root with visionary+ r14 or above
2- install from the Market 'Super User' from ChainDD, then 'Rom Manager' to get the ClockWorkMod Recovery
3- get radio S-OFF
4- get ENG S-OFF
5- install a custom rom based on 1.72.405.3, like LeeDroid's one (v1.5.1, as I'm wrting this)
Search for all this on XDA

Hi Guys,
I recently rooted and put a custom froyo 2.2 rom onto my HTC Desire. In the process i must of lost the backup of the original rom that shipped with the phone. The phone was bought with Vodafone Ireland and the baseband is 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04 . Im not sure but the guide i used to update my phone advised updating the radio (which i think is the same as the baseband). What i want to do is to download an original 2.1 (or 2.2) Rom so i can update to froyo the offical way. Basically the rom i currently have is buggy and i wanted to upgrade/downgrade to 2.1. I dont know what i need to do with my radio version or what difference it makes.
So my questions are:
1. Can someone link me a place i can download original HTC Desire Rom 2.1 so i can restore my phone to normal and upgrade to 2.2 through offical OTA?
2. What difference does the radio make? Why do i need to update that when i install a rom?
Thanks
oh and also if i put the original rom on it does that undo the rooting? Basically i want a stable version of 2.2 that i will be able to recieve updates in the future through offical methods (OTA)
i need this too
Look in the development section, there you can find RUU's those are original roms.
If u get an original ruu and follow instructions to install Froyo will be available for its system update. This includes an updated radio.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks, Does this get rid of rooting? and do i need to pick a RUU that has the same radio as mine?
this "Updates" your desire, making completely stock like, from what i know you have to choose what fits you phone, if it's Hboot .80 or that other one...
it will lock your recovery too...
hey sorry about all my noob questions but i tried the following page before
"HTC Desire > Desire Android Development > [ROM] Official HTC Desire RUU ROMS and OTA Update URL"
and any of the ones i tried dont seem to work. Is it someting to do with the fact that none of them are the same radio as mine?
Im guessing i should be trying the gsm ones. i tried to install some of the zips through rom manager from GSM HTC OTA Update URLs but they failed.
by "lock" do you mean that i will never be able to recover again and ya my hboot is .80
guys,
Can someone please help with this, im really stuck.
Thanks
Hello Guys
Just bought my Desire - but it was pre-installed with the 2.2, is there any easy solution for rooting this?
Downgrade then use unrevoked
Hi Numsefis,
you need to downgrade your phones HBOOT. Read this: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745903
DaCe
okay.. that's great, but hoped that there would be an easier solution, for the HBOOT 0,92.. But i'll root it and install new firmware... Will you prefer the OpenDesire or Stock ROM?
you will loose your ROM and all settings. The .zip contains a Stock 2.1 ROM. After the downgrade you need to unrevoke and flash a new one.
I'm using this: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
very nice, will it be possible to make a backup with the HTC function before root, and then restore when rooted?
What's the Radio package for?
The Backup only stores personal Data. Your ROM will be gone. After unrevoking your phone you will have the Nandroid BackUp.
Basically, the radio rom is the firmware that runs the phone, wireless and blutooth portions of the phone. Newer versions are likly to improve performance or fix bugs.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
OK thanks....
Then i root the phone, install 2,2 then make a nandroid backup when the phone is configured... And also install the radio fix...
Hopefully i can get paid apps in my market
downgrade -> unrevoke -> radio -> rom -> enjoy

ps: sry for double post
Thx alot for the info, but my phone was running HBOOT 0,92, so i think it's okay
from my link
Q. What is the difference between HBOOT 0.83 and 0.92?
A. 0.92 is installed if you apply the official OTA froyo update. If you care about rooting and custom ROMs, you want to avoid the OTA update currently.
Q. How do I downgrade to HBOOT 0.80?
A. Don't - there is no reason to. If you want to root or use a custom ROM or debrand there is no need to. If you have an SLCD screen, the current method for downgrading will break your screen.
Q. Can I debrand my phone with HBOOT 0.83?
A. Yes. If your software version is 1.21.405.2 or lower (for example, branded O2 phones), you can simply use this RUU with a goldcard to debrand and install stock 1.21.405.2. You can then upgrade to OTA froyo if you wish to. This RUU will also flash your HBOOT to 0.83.

can't get unrevoked to find my phone.... :S
have you installed the USB Driver like the html document says?
Yep, got it working, the guide i read, missed a step, that the ADB driver should be installed under Restore....
Now i got my phone rooted, and installed the Market fix... BUT i can't see that the market is unlocked for all programs???
Ive been reading that there has been an update for the dhd, how do i get this update?
My dhd was an upgrade on orangeUK (branded), is it for unbranded only or do i have to wait or something?
Ive tried the software update in settings but it says im upto date already and ive had no notifications.
regards Jody
Hi and welcome,
If you check your Android version, Settings > About > Android Version - 2.2 or 2.2.1
Your DHD may have come preloaded with the update, I thought that the OTA was for every DHD, I could be wrong!
it says
Android version: 2.2
software version: 1.40.61.2
You don't have the update. If you manually change the date on your DHD to a month or so ahead, then check for updates.
This worked for me on my old HTC Hero when T-Mobile were staggering updates to prevent network overload.
it's a branded phone, so you have to wait until your provider releases the update. normal htc strategy
Thanks for the replies guys
Is the debranding process something an average person could cope with?
Im used to flashing my old omnia on symbian but am new to android so a little green....excuse the pun
I would describe myself as the average person, and I got it to work. It can get technical at times, but as long as you follow the guides to the letter you'd be fine.
Thanks, I'll search for a debranding tutorial I think, any recommendations/advise/cautionary notes?
Give me a minute and I'll pull up some guides.
thankyou your very kind
The process to debrand your DHD is quite lengthy but worth it.
If you install the latest Stock HTC RUU then everything we do here, except Radio S-OFF, will be undone and revert to stock.
1). Root your DHD using Visionary+ --> Found Here
- You have to enable non-Market apps. Settings > Applications > Tick "Unknown Sources"
- Copy Visionary+ to your SD Card and install using a File Manager. I use Linda. Its on the Market & free.
- Using Visionary, Click TempRoot, then Attempt PermRoot.
2). Switch off DHD security (S-OFF)
- Follow This Guide to the letter. Ensure HTC Sync is installed, as you need the correct drivers.
- You performed the first two steps already.
3). Switch off Radio Security, SuperCID, & SIM Unlock.
- Follow This Guide, also to the letter.
- SuperCID allows you to flash Unbranded HTC ROM's to Branded DHD's.
- Radio Security (Radio S-OFF), allows you to flash Radio files seperately.
If you want to backup SMS' & Calls logs get SMS Backup + from the Market, its free and backs up to your GMail.
Now your DHD should be branded still but fully unlocked, to install the latest stock & unbranded HTC update you will need to download This Official HTC RUU,(RUU = Rom Update Utility). The first post has the file.
Once downloaded, connect your DHD to your computer, ensure HTC Sync recognises your DHD. And double click the downloaded file, following all the prompts.
Your DHD will reboot, and do it's thing. Once complete your DHD will be bang upto date. Unbranded & Unlocked. All your previous settings, SMS', call logs & apps will be gone. If you have purchased any apps, they will still be able to be downloaded at no extra cost.
Everything you performed here will be undone, except step 3. But why would you want to SIM Lock your DHD again, or lock the CID back to a network?
Many thanks, will folow this to the letter and let you know how i get on
Hi
im picking up a unlocked Vodafone DHD tomorrow and i plan on debranding it to remove all the vodafone stuff
just reading over andyharney post and im a little confused
both step 2 & 3 point to the same guide
is step 3 surposed to be pointing to THIS guide?????
and when i debrand the phone i intend on keeping the rooted phone so when i choose a new RUU should i just not choose the most recent one ??
sorry if that doesn't make sense im a little new to the DHD
cheers
Hi, yes they are supposed to point to the same guide. I'd described each step separately so I posted the link twice.
If you wish to keep root then you can either flash an earlier unbranded RUU, or flash a Sense based custom ROM. I'm using Android Revolution HD at the moment. Its excellent.
I have this problem, I dont have the 1.7... update people are talking about. My DHD is unbranded and on Orange

but with the One click S-OFF isnt it just a 1 button app
there is no option there to switch off SuperCID, & SIM Unlock.
or do i root with Visionary then use the One click S-OFF app
then just repeat the process again ???
sorry for the dumb questions
could i just use this THIS app instead as it does radio s-off super-CID and simunlock in one click
then just flash a unbranded RUU
i pickup my phone 2night cant wait
If your device is branded you may also need to create a gold card to get it to accept unbranded firmware.
Sent from my performance enhanced Desire HD
was chatting with jkoljo the dev of the tool HERE
and he said you can just follow the steps there and your ready to go
then you just need to choose a debranded RUU and flash it
then just follow the s-on steps if you ever need to return the phone for warranty purposes
from my understanding the super-CIDD option in the software allows you to flash any firmware you want
i picked up my new phone a few hrs ago
all the bloatware vodafone put on the phone slow it up soo much
the stupid vodafone bootup screen adds another 4-5 seconds to boot up time
so i got home and debranded the phone
only took 15min
every thing is running great
i just used jkoljo 1 click tool i posted above and then flashed RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed
phone is fully debadged and rooted
Hi everyone!
This is the situation:
I got my unlocked HTC Desire HD from an authorized store but when I started it (at home) I've noticed that is branded from T-mobile Germany.
Since I use a Vodafone SIM, I decided to unbranded it. So I installed this stock ROM: RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26 .03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed. I followed the steps described in a thread on this forum, using Visionary and One click S-OFF tool. Everything was just fine. My device works without any problem except one: can't find OTA updates.
WHAT COULD IT BE? IS THERE SOMETHING I COULD MAKE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE?
Thank you in advance,
joaquin
As far as I know, once you have s-off and root and a custom Rom installed, the ota update will not work. If you want the update you will need to install a custom Rom running the new update.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I understood that the stock ROM is not a customized ROM.
And I checked in bootloader and the first row looks like this:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON
Doesn't this mean that my device has S-ON?
Is it possible that my device to be still rooted? If yes, is there a solution to make it unrooted?
Joquin
To be more specific, when i say can't find OTA updates, I mean I don't receive notification about updates and when I manually check it says "There are no updates available for your phone."
Do you know which CID you have on phone?
I had rooted, Eng S-Off and Radio S-Off (Super CID-11111111) on phone and phone found OTA update. Although I didn't tried to install it since in that way I'll be loosing root.
If I understand correctly youre still on 1.32 and you want to aquire root and S-OFF AND you want to update to 1.72?
If that is what you want, you will not be needing a prompt from your phone to update the system, because that way you will not be keeping root/S-OFF after the update.
Ensure you have BOTH Eng S-OFF and Radio S-OFF and you did temproot with visionary+. Check IVO's refference thread for that.
Its gotta work.
Then, for updating the phone correctly, take your time to read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885996
its not an easy guide for beginners (such as myself), but if you read the entire thread you will eventually get out. I did too.
I'm sorry, but I don't know where to find the CID number.
In the bootloader doesn't appear.
Joaquin
@maurei
I know if I will update to 1.72 is not possible to root at this moment and probably I will not make this update. But I want the OTA updates working not only for now.
Thank you anyaway
Joaquin
ah, hit quick reply instead of edit I guess.. soz for the dubble post, del this one
Thats what I'm saying my friend - you CAN have root AND 1.72
Its not possible to root fromin 1.72, but it IS possible to maintain root as you upgrade from 1.32 to 1.72 .
Reading my previous post made me realize it wasn't so clear.

I meant:
Then, for updating (=manually installing the update through recoverymode) the phone correctly (correctly =MAINTAINING ROOT and S-OFF), follow that guide.
Be sure you have ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF + permroot with Visionary+.
Also, be sure not to remove any preinstalled apps as this will cause unnecessary problems during the install
Sorry if I wasn't able to make myself clear.
My goal is not to have a rooted device. Maybe in the future I'll make this step if it will be necesary.
I want my device as new one, from store. I explained in the first post of this thread why I'm in this situation.
Through this thread I want to find a way to get OTA updates.
BTW, I understood that if the device is rooted OTA updates aren't possible. So I installed visionary+ and I used the "unroot now" button and I received this message: "your device doesn't appear to be rooted" or something like this.
It seems is not about unroot or s-on (see the 3rd post, too).
Anyway, if somebody has any idea, it would be apreciated to share.
Thanks,
Joaquin
You should at least get radio s-off before you upgrade. You'll thank me later if you decide you do actually want root.

Hello everyone, a new HTC Desire HD user here.
Right now I am very glad that I just succeeded in flashing my first rom. I chose Android Revolution 2.0.7 after very close looks at relevant posts and instructions. Well, it worked. But now that I am ready to flash the radio, some new questions arise.
Before I flashed this ROM I downloaded VISIONary+ and Terminal Emulator to root the device and install h-boot as instructed. I also followed this post in order to S-Off Radio as suggested by the author of the ROM.
My question is, now that I've installed Android Revolution HD 2.0.7, the VISIONary+ program and also the SuperUser app icon which appeared in the old ROM after I used the rooting tool have all gone. Is the new system still guaranteed with ROOT and HBOOT? If not, the new system is based on official HTC update 1.72.405.3, therefore VISIONary+ does not work on it right?
Do I continue on to radio flashing without hassel, or do I have to find some way to redo ROOT, HBOOT and Radio S-Off?
(Sorry for the long essay, I tried to explain the question as clearly as possible. Any help much appreciated!)
