After reading a few threads here about the best case, I decided that I will purchase a TPU case (clear smoke argyle). I was looking at ebay and see the same item/design by these 2 sellers. One is $3.87 other is $7.49. Anyone know what the difference between these 2 is?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370473226743 - $3.87
http://cgi.ebay.com/Argyle-Smoke-Flexi-Skin-Cover-Samsung-Vibrant-T959-/310291583683 - $7.49
There is another for $6.95 it says that it comes in a retail package, where as the first one it says it's "generic." Looks the same to me in the pictures.

Any help? Oh, and I looked around a lot, but wasn't able to find one without the argyle pattern that is also clear smoke. (didn't like the hybrid one too much). Anyone away of any such case?
Thanks!
I bought a smoke case from accstation and it seems to fit well, but the case is so rigid that the case over the power and volume keys make it very hard to press the keys. After some careful stretching they seem to work well enough, at the aesthetic expense of those small areas of the case. I also bought a similar Purple TPU case from post3rs on Ebay. It seemed to have the same issue over the power and volume buttons. I've dropped the vibrant on concrete from 4 feet 3 times with that case and so far it's saved me, and i'm considering cutting out the power + volume with a razor knife.......... Not sure how some of the more pricey cases compare in this arena but it's worth mentioning my experience.
i think they are all the same cases, but rustychiles is right, its extraordinarily rigid making the buttons hard to press, i would recommend that "best case" over the argyle one since its far easier to press the buttons, on the other hand, it is a nice looking case
also, to rustychiles, don't cut out the buttons, they will become recessed and much harder to press, i tried that with a cheap silicone case cause i didnt like it and i was curious too, it doesnt work
Thanks for the reply guys.
@bdroc, which "best case" are you referring to?

Got it, thanks. I ended up going with the TPU argyle case. Not a big fan of the pattern, but I like the feel of TPU more than the hard plastic in the hybrid version.
be sure to give us your review on it when you get it!
btw, is it a hard cover or soft cover?
Ok, will do. It's a TPU case, so I think the feel of it will lie somewhere between soft silicone and hard plastic. Just the way I like it -semi soft or semi hard, depends on how you look at it.

Oh BTW, if you are interested, someone already posted a mini review and pics for the TPU argyle case here, which is what convinced me to get this case. I think there's also pics in the "best case" thread here on xda.

Get the cheapest one you can get because you are going to have to cut out the buttons anyway. I have 2 of the TPUs and they are the best cases out there. Both of the TPUs were the same materials and the buttons are so hard to press you have to cut them out, which I did. I highly recommend TPUs.
I have 5 other types of cases (non-TPU) like Gel, etc and I can say that TPU offers the best combination of protection and feel. It doesnt catch lint in your pockets like other types do. I dropped it many times and no scratches whatsoever.

Update: Instead of cutting out the case over the power and volume buttons I heated up a flat head screwdriver with a flame and gently thinned out the TPU case over the power and volume buttons by gently melting and stretching the case and couldn't be happier with the results. The cases don't melt the way you want them to, and aesthetically I could probably do better next time by using a hot surface the same size as the area I am stretching but it doesn't look that bad and it's as functional as I'd like it to be now.
Don't cut the case! As someone else said, it makes the buttons recessed and hard to press. Take a small piece of tape and place it on the insides of the case, under the power and volume buttons. Works a lot better.

i agree, TPU is one of the best cases. i first got a TPU case for my iphone 3g and i loved it so much that when i bought my vibrant i got the exact same case for it
after the first day, i also learned that the buttons couldn't be pressed so i had to take an x acto knife to cut the holes out. now its not so bad
LOL @ cutting / blowtorching the cases... i used the tape method.

The D3O cases as many are already familiar with here, are a perfect fit, however the buttons are waaaay too hard to press (not recommended if you flash your phone a lot)
The Flex Protect version of the case, is at least easier to put on and take off than the dual tone Dual Impact version.
The D3O Dual Impact cases feels like a solid plank of wood, is not heavy, but it's absolutely not flexible enough for you to easily put the phone in, or take it out.
(Dual Impact photos coming later)
You almost have to break the case in two to get the phone out of a Dual Impact case.
In the other hand of the spectrum we have the cheapo generic Clear S TPU case with the dual tone S shape which is not a perfect fit (as you can see from the pictures), but the case does a way better job and it really highlights features of SGS2 really well
The grip is amazing with the Clear S TPU case, no more slipping off the hands, like it was in when using the D3O case, the matte like finish is nice, but it becomes slippery in a dry hand.
The difference between the 2 cases are night and day, D3O is perfectly tailored for the T989, however it's not user friendly, while the cheap Clear S TPU is not a perfect fit, it does everything better than the D3O
I got the Black D3O Flex Protect case from Tmo online store https://www.t-mobile.com/shop/AddOn...415d-b2d0-0254711cf682&inCart=True&catCode=21
and the Clear S TPU from DX http://www.dealextreme.com/p/protective-tpu-back-case-for-samsung-sgh-t989-translucent-white-93678

What I don't like about the paper mod is that if you drop the phone you are more likely to damage the buttons with the extra pressure the paper creates.
A simpler mod is to just take a razor blade and cut slits in the rubber. This allows the rubber buttons to flex in the middle and reach the phone buttons easily. There are no gaps and the cuts are invisible even when pressed. I did it to my case and the buttons work GREAT now. This absolutely fixes the problem. The manufacturer should do this themselves. It makes an already great case nearly perfect.
The yellow marks are where I put the cuts. I used my pocket knife. A razor would do a cleaner job but the cuts are self healing since no material is removed. I left the center piece uncut between the volume buttons and the ends of each button for longevity. The cuts are only where the yellow marks are at in the pictures. I recommend starting from the middle and working your way to the outside when cutting the slits for the volume buttons to prevent accidentally cutting through the center section.
Dirt and debris still can't get in since there really isn't a gap created.
Best wishes to all my S II modding brethren.

Will have to try this little trick out. I have the gray on black D30 case and the buttons are a P.I.T.A to press. I have had my phone for about a month and a half so I'm kinda used to it by now but it's still annoying. For this reason I make sure any ROM I flash includes the Advanced Power Menu for easy access to recovery mode. I am not looking forward to the day when I may have to manually enter recovery mode .
As an aside, if anyone can point me to a nice case with a good kickstand it would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, there are people in the other D30 cases thread saying that their cases have cracked. Anyone here have this happen to them yet?

I looked at this case also but choose the d30...however the caller on the line hears and echo of themselves when speaking....pretty annoying southern and me because i end up taking the case off. That's with the d30. Happen to anyone else?

Can I just bring back my D30 to T-mobile store and ask for replacement if it develops crack like someone mentioned? I bought it from the store and have receipt and everything.
I just bought the D3O flex protect case. The power button is a bit tougher than having no case, but its not unbearable. I actually think that I wont hit the power button by accident any more now.
Case seems ok. It doesnt add much thickness or look to the phone, and I actually think it feels more secure in my hand than not having a case (stock sides feel slippery).
As for cracking.. I dont see how the flex protect case will crack because its flexible.

Yes none of my flex cases have cracked ( I dont see how they would either ) , but the duel impact hard shells have all cracked.

Any tips on a decent ebay case?
Just received this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261027269...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
The fit is really tight, camera is somewhat protected (about 0.5mm beneath surface) and extra grip on the sides is good I guess (I was already used to the smooth finish one the phone itself so the grainy surface feel a bit weird). Buttons need a lot more force to push though. Good for some afraid to accidentally activating the phone while in their pocket, but for me it's ruining the usage experience a bit. I probably will get used to it after a couple of days.
Anyway it's really cheap and in my opinion worth a try.
Btw, the one advertised as grey is actually clear with matte clear in the middle.
Thanks, I preffer those that are more flexible though or the snap-on one.
I am using a case similar to this but bought from amazon, I like the idea that the camera lense is protected by 5mm, no scratches and case doesn't get in the way of pics
It adds a bit more bulk to the phone, less likely to slip out your hand as well, buttons are harder to press, no accidental presses while in your pocket, all the cut outs are perfect, which I was very pleased about
Think I payed £1.95 + p&p....I still think I robbed them, seriously under priced for such a well fitted case and all cut outs perfect

The price was £1.49 (I think seller has changed the price) and you get case, screen protector and a stylus.
All the holes line up and it adds a bit of bulk to the phone. The screen protector was not a perfect fit but I seem to be using the stylus more than I thought (it works really well and keeps my finger prints off lol)
cant complain for less than 2 quid.
I can't say enough good things about this case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clear-Screen-Protector-Qubits-Accessories/dp/B007V38BF0/ref=pd_cp_ce_1
It's on amazon but I've seen them listed on ebay under different names.
It basically looks just like the pictures and really looks good on the phone. It doesn't add much bulk and does a really good job at protecting everything. The included screen protectors are nice. They scratch easily but they don't show prints as much or have that rainbow effect like harder protectors. There are tons of cases out there for 10x the price but I wouldn't trade them for this one. I wish the pogo pins weren't covered but I'm not sure they would work anyway with the added thickness of the case.

I got myself one of those from ebay. It fits really well and looks decent but the buttons are not molded well. Even the slightest touch and power / volume buttons will activate. Maybe I just got a dud product.
I will try to gouge some plastic away from the bottom where the buttons should fit and it should make the case usable. Not going to send it back because it was so cheap and not worth the hassle.

My vote goes to Incipio.
The dual layer Incipio Silicrylic should provide more protection than Speck, and Speck's are getting a reputation for cracking. (Another reason that I'd never buy from Speck is because they send lawyer nastygrams to people reselling their cases on ebay!)
i went to the att store yesterday and the guy there pulled out TWO spec cases. on one i couldn't get the up on the volume rocker to work. on the second one it held that button down
my vote goes to the incipio dual pro but i'm prob gonna end up naked. the incipio adds more bulk to the phone than the speck AND dirt still gets in the incipio one. i'd like to try the case mate pop case. that'll prob be my last try.
alternatively, the official samsung cases that come in a two pack are awesome. i'm just looking for something to cover my buttons because it's very annoying that they're kinda loose. was expecting GNex quality in the button sturdiness area (extremely stiff/held into place).

i don't drop phones. the S3 is very thin, though, and i feel i need to put something on it at least. i'll prob go back by and pick up a pop case just to give it a try. if all fails, samsung oem case it is for me prob.
Casemate Pop! beats both in this case IMO. It has the look of a Speck Candyshell (which are usually my favorite), plus kickstand, plus rubber grippage on the sides. The buttons are very tactile. And of course the case extends above the screen so dropping it on the screen won't break it. It fits even the largest headphone jacks (looking at you, big monitor-headphone people) and has a big space for large aftermarket USB chargers.
The silicrylic is very nice it is what I have on mine. I had the unsteady buttons and the silicrylic covers them perfectly and makes them feel extremely solid and stable and takes just the right amount of pressure imo to push them. I have the white s3 and the light / dark gray case it looks very good. I have had a lot of people say they really like my case. It also makes the phone very easy to hold onto compared to no case and seems like it provides good protection.
I've owned both and honestly, the speck is junk. If I were you, I'd order both and see for your self, then send back the speck.
FYI, I found on another thread where you can put a piece of paper or scotch tape inside the case above the volume rocker and it fixes that. I was upset when I ran into that problem on mine but it works well now. Easy fix on that particular issue.
I have the speck case only because it goes well with the MoshI ivisor. It looks good but has only been in my pocket with nothing else and looks rubbed and scratched on the back. Does feel like it could crack easily. I won't take my phone into work until I find a otterbox, which I will more than likely remove the built in screen protector.

So after about a week of having the case on the phone, I have to say its a great case.
When I initially got it, it was TOO tight. So tight, that it would basically make my phone keep rebooting (pressing against the power button). I had planned on cutting out the section where the power button is altogether, but in the end i created too small slits on each side of the button indention. Once I did that, the case was good to go. It's a solid case. The grips on the side make it much easier to hold the phone. My biggest liking of this case is the hard plastic backing. I'm not a fan of complete rubber cases or complete plastic cases, both tend to have faults some how. But this case is the best of both worlds. The plastic and rubber sections are both in areas where its most beneficial. The case didn't make the phone too bulky either, thankfully. I think this case is only available in 2 colors, Grey & White and White & Grey (the color i have). If you're looking for a solid case that doesn't create too much bulk, then get this one. :good:

I'd like to know how that stylus pen works out for you. I'd be interesting in getting one.
^^I can't comment on this specific one, but in general these kind of stylus (with soft rubber tip) are pretty bad; I've tried a bunch, ranging from $1 to $30. They are all not very responsive (have to press hard on the screen to register sometimes) and you can feel the drag when swiping across the screen.

A few days ago, i ordered the Cimo Grip Back Case Flexible TPU Cover for less than $10.
http://www.amazon.com/Cimo-Grip-Bac...8&qid=1377765040&sr=1-2&keywords=cimo+htc+one
The ratings are excellent on Amazon and the youtube video reviews as well. It's a nice protective TPU case with raised volume button covers, and most probably my first choice for use as a daily case.
I also ordered these two cases:
Nillkin Slim Hard Case (upon recommendation from a friend who uses a Nillkin case on his phone)
http://www.amazon.com/Nillkin-Slim-...id=1377765230&sr=1-3&keywords=nillkin+htc+one
And for better protection (with as minimum bulk as possible) which apparently has the best volume buttons feel:
OtterBox Commuter Series Hybrid Case for HTC One
http://www.amazon.com/OtterBox-Comm...323&sr=1-1&keywords=otterbox+htc+one+commuter
I have that Cimo case in the first link, it's almost impossible to adjust the volume & the power button is awkward as well.
I also have the Poetic Atmosphere, & that was really nice until it started coming apart.
I'm looking for a case like the OP, but haven't found one yet.

The Cimo is useable (volume rocker wise) by cutting a few strips of vinyl electrician's tape about 2x3 mm wide. Easiest way is to lay the tape on a cutting board and cut into 2mm wide stripes with a razor knife, then cut each strip again, about 3 mm long. I stacked three on top of each other using tweezers. These get applied on the inside of the case where each button hits, closer to the outer part just past the middle. The idea is to touch the buttons on the phone with the back (non sticky side) of the tape about three quarters way from the edge of where the buttons meet. You can adjust the sensitivity by the number of layers you use. Too sensitive and you may activate accidentally. At two or one layers you may not feel much better sensitivity than stock.
This "mod" makes the case a viable contender, IMO. You can do this with any case and it does not permanently change the case as slitting one side of the button material like some suggest. That particular mod does not work well with this case.
Amazon used to be my go-to place for phone cases, but Ebay actually has a way nicer selection, imho. A lot of them are super cheap from Hong Kong, which is a little shady... But I've been having good luck with the quality that I've been receiving from them and at ridiculous prices ($5 w/ free shipping, etc.)
It's definitely worth some digging and will save you the trouble of TRYING to spend $25 for free shipping on Amazon. :silly:

This is probably my favorite of the bunch:
http://www.amazon.com/Diztronic-Mat...=1378056557&sr=8-1&keywords=htc+one+diztronic
If it had the shiny back of the Cimo it would be five stars, IMHO.
The lip is protective enough to survive a decent drop on pavement and it's not bulky at all.
The next step up (IMO) would be the speck candyshell line. They will give protection on the same order as the Otterbox Commuter without as much bulk. The Otterbox does plug the microUSB and headphone jack, however which helps keep them dust free if you pocket carry outdoors, for example.
I wish most of the tpu/rubbery cases didn't have that "frost" texture it's so annoying that almost all of them have it, I'd be happy with the diztronic but that camera cut is too ugly to let slide for my tastes

This is probably my favorite of the bunch:

If it had the shiny back of the Cimo it would be five stars, IMHO.

I've had this case for a few weeks now. Very tight fit. Very easy to apply & remove. Looks and feels very good in the hand. It's very thin. Great buy for under $10.

Looks goof but it doesn't seem like it has a power button? Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

Power button is open.
Only case I've used that covers the power button and retains IR functionality was the Mophie pack. There is measurable attenuation however the ability to control IR devices seemed adequate in the timeframe I was able to test it.

I have that Cimo case in the first link, it's almost impossible to adjust the volume & the power button is awkward as well.
I also have the Poetic Atmosphere, & that was really nice until it started coming apart.
I'm looking for a case like the OP, but haven't found one yet.

If not mistaken, poetic has a 3 years warranty, can it be claimed on your case? I am also considering to buy this one, but with this issue, may be rethink again.

I have submitted an RMA for it, waiting to hear back from them.

Nilkin's got my vote, im rocking this as of the moment, very slim, does not add bulk to the phone. . power, volume, mic are not blocked. Case looks insanely good and with a grippy texture in the back

I also ordered this case today (it's likely to be the last case i'll ever buy for my HTC One Stealth Black as it seems to be the very best out of the lot):
http://www.amazon.com/Urban-Armor-U...F8&qid=1378229675&sr=1-2&keywords=htc+one+uag
There are several other colours, but i love the Slate/Black color combination. IMO, the latter looks better than the all-black colour case. However, if you want to get max attention for your phone, i would recommend the Rust/Black case:
