Howdy all. I have been doing some research and found out about an ATI issue that causes/ed problems. I am running VP3G 2.0.1H and have downloaded the TCPMP 0.72 RC1. Do i still need this ATI fix? I believe the ROM I am running does include this fix though.
I ask this because i already have *.avi of shows and movies and they all have a few minimal frame rate, somewhere around .5 i think, the audio plays fine but no video.
To add further confusion i followed MrVanx guide about encoding for the Hermes and made one of files that has a res of 608 and a size of 350MB into a res of 320 and a size of 214. After converting that and playing it on my phone it works pretty well, occasionally there are artifacts; how do i fix this?. Is that part of the old issues? Is the buffer under options>settings>buffering going to help with the occasional dropped frame? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
If you are using your device for watching movies on a regular basis, consider buying CorePlayer!
The new version is quite amazing and handle the Imageon chip on every ROM I tried (with and without the sleuth's ati patch). There is also a huge speed improvement between Coreplayer and tcpmp. It allows me to watch with very few slowdowns films ripped in high quality (624x352, 23fps, ...). As I am to lazy to have those ripped in a mobile format, this situation suits me well.

CorePlayer constantly freezes up on me. I recommend the FREE DivX Player from DivX themselves.
http://mobile.divx.com/size
or
http://mobile.divx.com/divx/winmoppc/DivXPlayer.CAB
hopefully I have just posted the cab for tcpmp v.81 (from 4winmobile ) which I have been using for a while.
It's a shame TCPMP seemed to wither away, in development I mean. It's a darn good video player and the one that I still use today - I use an 0.81RC1 beta version (at least it says it is, don't know if it's better than 0.72).
I even try to watch my divx films on my pc straight over wifi, which still doesn't seem to work ideally. I wonder what the limitation is, is it just the bits/s or maybe the video chip simply can't process that much information/second.
I'm also too lazy to rip the films yet again into a mobile format, it should be able to handle it, and 802.11g should handle the bitrate over the air...
Well, I suppose I'll consider CorePlayer, but I loved TCPMP being free. Oh well.

Orb + DivX player = Streamable over wifi/internet without any converting.
I tried the TCPMP .81RC1 and the slowdown isn't as bad, doing a benchmark it is 773k/s instead of 100k/s but the video need 1.3MB/s so i think i am going to need to convert what i want to the smaller size. I might try out coreplayer if i get a chance.

you do that as fun_key pointed out, CorePlayer now completely supports ATI ImageON, which means absolutely no artifacts playing MPEG4/H263 videos. plus ATI ImageON can handle MUCH higher bitrates, which helps if you're a bad boy and download all of your stuff from the net.. you won't need any converting at all (unless you want to stream audio over A2DP)
So what i am hearing is that i need to buy Coreplayer. Guess that is what i will do then. Thanks a bunch
On the new Dopod rom released on Jul-12th,
(1) ATIFix.cab from Sleuth is still required. (Both TCPMP and CorePlayer).
if not, you will see the screen zigzag after stoping video.
TCPMP set video for IMAGEON not IMAGEON decoder to remove
random blocks on the video..
CorePlayer 1.1.1 tested with imageon acceleration set.
(2) If u use the camera, then go and watch video using TCPMP or Coreplayer
there is a Green zigzag. (BUG same like the other WM6 cooked rom).
Not sure if this can be resolved. If disabled IMAGEON completely, no issue with the using CAMERA then watching video using CorePlayer or TCPMP.
By default, Windows Media Player didnot enable IMAGEON accelerator.
See subject.
Really? Nobody?
Sorry...I used to use it but now I use Coreplayer instead...Tj
I use it.
Hello,
I have used tcpmp for many years, and think it's the best overall player out there, especially considering the price! ;-)
As far as settings go, I have the version mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565653&highlight=tcpmp
and I followed the directions about blitting. I also (from old habit) set video to use raw, instead of direct draw because in past versions that setting helped smooth out video quite a bit.
I am very pleased that the TP2 can actually handle 'full sized' xvids, without having to reencode them to a lower bitrate and screensize, but it's not perfect. Ironically, it reminds me of the way my oldest pocket pc (Casio e125) played back .mpg, which had to be encoded at 15 fps: stopgap.
There must be a fix though, because I also have a file I recoded for my iphone as an .m4v file, with pretty high bitrate, and when I click on it, it plays with the 'built-in' player found in the photoviewer by default, and the playback is nearly perfect.
I must say: the iphone certainly has the advantage for video playback, although having to recode bites. They have VLC player for hacked iphones, but it can't playback xvid worth a damn.
It seems that Videolan is searching for developpers, but i'm not able to, so i allow myself to join another thread in another forum, maybe someone could make something ??

Thanks.

Hi guys,
No one is interrested or I have posted in the wrong section ?
Thanks
Dob.
VLC has been trying for some time to get on Windows Mobile. It needs to happen. An open source video player would be one of the best additions to WM software.
he really miss a player for windows mobile.
TCPMP no longer fit for our machine can not handle hardware acceleration.
I find it really unfortunate that it was not 1 player worthy of Windows Mobile. same core player does not pay can handle certain codecs.
i fully agree with mancukya
the hardware is getting more advance but the software is playing catch-up
vlc is my fav on all platforms, i use it on my pc and my mac
to get it on my winmo phone would be a blessing (i dont want to pay for something like coreplayer which doesnt support that many types of codecs)
So there is no one who can help the Videolan's Team to port VLC on Windows Mobile ?
There is a VLC media player for winmo for a while now, but it is very bad and not really working. whats your problem with coreplayer?!
it's just that my provider offer us a service, that permit us to show the TV via videolan and it's doesn't work with coreplayer....
So I love my HD because of it's big screen (I love watching movies). I download these high quality 3d anime movies and sink them down to 800x480, play them on my coreplayer 1.3.6 or smth and it lags like hell. I try it on Windows media player and it runs perfectly. Am I doing something wrong or does coreplayer really suck ?
i think it might be you.
on my HD, i pick any 1hr30min+ video encoded for playback on pcs (file size 700mb) and it plays fine in CP
Maybe its a ROM issue? try disabling manila or a softreset and see if that helps.
Would have to agree with ASK
Yeah, coreplayer is brilliant, plays pretty much everything i throw at it. Though at first i'd have agreed with you, but for differing reasons.
I think it's more A ROM issue, because I flash ROMs every week or two and on some ROMs coreplayer lags like hell. With stock ROM is the best I think
840x480 is too much for our HD try a bit lower something in the range of 624x352 it looks and runs smooth 98.22% average speed with a good ROM I run hdtv rips downloaded and not compressed or anything... tweaks are important also try different drivers and speed improving programs .
I loaded a standard definition american dad episode (approx 135mb) and coreplayer plays it flawlessly on my HD.

Maybe it is you. LOL, just kidding. I never sunk anything to a special format for it to be played by CP: I have DivX, XViD, MP4, AVI movies, I just put them on my storage card and open them "as is" in Coreplayer 1.36. Either your manipulation to "sink" the anime to 800*480 was wrong, because you don't need to actually. Or it could be ROM related.
f.
Never knew it could be ROM related.. 0.o I'll test that. What about other normal movies, like not anime? Are they watchable ?
where it could be ROM related it it probably more likely to be a long standing issue with the HD and drivers, this has been covered a zillion times already. The HD will have trouble most video files in coreplayer as there is no hardware acceleration and the CPU alone just doesnt have the low down grunt.Your best bet is to upgrade to the HD2 or to covert your files using the touch HD video converter, (there are a few versions about) and then play them in HTC video player which has acceleration.
That being said, coreplayer if by far the best player on the market with regards to formats and codec suppport, if you dont mind reducing the resolution a little on your movies they should reasonable well.
The software I like, the company I do not however as they are mislead their customers, make huge exegerations about future update release dates and generally pissed off their customer base when failed to release V2 on time and moved their dev to android.
If you are going to upgrade to the HD2 I would try the free version TCMP first as it has AC3 suppport.
Hey what class cards are you guys playing stuff off or are ya's playing stuff off the internal memory?
I'm asking because even though mine could play a cartoon flawlessly, I tried watching a normal tv episode on my HD and it failed miserably, dropped frames, video got stuck every few minutes, it was totally poo
I'm wondering if its my card or my TCPMP release, I have read some have hardware acceleration and most other versions don't, I'm using a Class 4 8GB card at the moment and am wondering if Ill get a lot of benefit for Video/Music going to a Class 6 8GB Micro SDHC card.

I have watched many 700mb DVD-rip's using coreplayer, i use the smartphone edition on my blackstone
why not use HTC encoder to transcode the files? that way the files can be played by HTC Album/WMP and take advantage of the h.264 hardware decoder in the blackstone.
Youtube works on WP7, caught on video
check it out : 1800PocketPC
once you play a video its automatically added to your Music and Video Hub !!!!
works on the youtube mobile version, http://m.youtube.com
Honestly, did anyone expect it NOT to work in WP7?
with out flash , yes many of us did not think it would work initially.
forget youtube....XVID is a supported format out of the box. Now I can do less work at work and look at animes on my phone .

*Sigh*
It's not true, unfortunately, according to the official list of codecs supported in the RTM version of WP7. As you will see there, there's no xvid or divx in the list.
Luckily, MPEG-4 Part 2 Advanced Simple Profile is listed, and this means that most xvid/divx videos should work as both xvid and divx are variations of this spec.
However, this codec isn't supported in .avi container, the file should be an .mp4 or an m4v.
To add insult to injury, you will not hear any sound in those videos if they have a soundtrack encoded in mp3 or AC3. Only AAC-LC.
To summarize, there's just no way to view a real-life video in WP7 without messing with some sort of convertion. A bit of good news is that it shouldn't require hours, it should be enough to remux the video (put it into another container) and reencode audio (a bit lengthier), and it's better than what you get in Android or iOS, but still far from smooth hassle-free experience.
^ very funny.
I'll have you know that I don't need to convert videos for my phone. Have you seen the specs for new higher end Androids, they support most codecs out the box. The only codec I haven't seen work was for converted dvds or .vob.

I know, that's brought by OEMs. Who can do the same for WP7 if they wish, although that will cost them less as the base things are covered by MS, both in terms of licensing and hardware acceleration built in. Supporting a container is should be much easier than supporting a codec. In this case all you need to do is a demultiplexer, the actual decoders are already there.

Bah, I should have look at that further instead of taking the article at face value.
My 2nd thought was hoping that wasn't final and that wp7 should play everything zune does as well. So I looked up the Zune specs and the avi container isn't there either . Although the xbox 360 has supported xvid in .avi since fall 2007 I believe, so that's a glimmer of hope.
Thanks for clearing that up though. Audio & Video Codecs are a pain in the neck.
Not only codecs are a pain for everyone, but also a very confusing topic, tech blogs mix up things all the time.
The most amazing thing in all this story for me is that .avi is Microsoft's format. Why they don't support it in their products is totally beyond my comprehension.
Oh, and of course this: mp4 is based on Apple's QuickTime video format, while m4v is totally developed by Apple. Go figure.
