[Q] Car Home doesn't stop opening. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok.. I'm on MIUI 1.28 the final release .. I found it on the sticky ..sinse I flashed the rom, I unlocked then the icon on the status bar appear. It's the car home icon.. Even though car home doesnt come install on miui. The happened on sense, gingerbread and miui 1.21 i don't know what's wrong .. I tried to download the app then uninstall it so it wouldn't appear again but when I install it it kept openin and closing by itself.. Idk what's wrong with it... Any help guys.. Although. On sense rom it stopped running and dessapear but now I can't even open an app when it opens again...
Rom = miui 1.28
Stock kernel .. Nothing add ..

Try going in to settings, apps, manage, all, and select car home and force stop, than clear stast or memory. That might help you.

Well I use Amon ra recovery 2.2.1
Flash the calking zip.. This is better then just wipe ..
Also wipe everything separate ..
Flashed miui, evervolt. Sprint lovers rom .. The pc36img.zip . The roms were flashed one after the other when ten car home app started to open by itself.. Now I'm back on miui 1.28 and at first didn't get any about the car home app .. But like 6 hours later it started.. Something I've notice is that it does it more when i put it next to my iPad .. It's really weird and annoying at the same time ...

Okay, that it's so weird.so you are up to date as far as firmware from sprint? Did you wipe everything more than once?
Sent from my evil evo!!

You might have a problem with your USB connector. Girlfriend's EVO was having this problem (hers is completely stock) so we took it in to Sprint. Turns out the USB connector had some corrosion, they cleaned up the connector and it has been fine since. Apparently the corrosion on the connector was somehow making the phone think it was in a car dock, so it opened up the Car Home screen.

Car app issue

Having a wierd issue that started last weekend. My phone acts like the car dock is always "on". Thing is it hasn't been on the phone since I installed the rom and deleted it. Phone always answers or dials out with speaker on. Screen rotates and that is checked off. I went as far as switching to a cm nand same thing. Fresh install of cm, mik, myn and even a plain stock rooted. All exhibit the same behavior. Help. And yes I wiped, format all zip. Went as far as unrooting, s-on and back to a 3.29 or something ruu
So in the unrooted it acted the same way. Rerooted tried cm7 latest nightly fresh install upon first boot its loads into car home. Same with mik4.5. Deleted the app and same behavior.
From my best knowledge it did just start randomly
you try deleteing the car panel apk via root explorer?
Yeah it had been deleted. When the issue first started on cm6.1.2 car home was not even installed on phone. So after that and trying to trouble shoot by flashing various roms the issue still persists

I think you have a problem with your USB port. It is thinking it's connected to a car dock, so it launches the car screen. My gf's EVO had this problem, we took it in to Sprint and they cleaned up the connector and it has been fine ever since. They said this has been a common problem, especially with people that use car chargers. The plug on the end of the USB cable gets crap in it, then gets plugged into the phone.

did you check to see if you had any thing related to the car app on your sd card
Cannot find anything on the sdcard related to any car "app"(home or panel), I will go about trying to clean out the charging port tomorrow when I get my hands on some air

Do you have Titanium back up installed? if not install it, it will be in there.
I don't know the cause of the problem, I had the same exact thing happen to me and I was like WTF?
Even after I deleted it, it still popped up a couple times before I rebooted the phone a few times and it hasn't came up since (about 2 weeks now).

Have you tried to go to settings>applications>running services>choose force stop on maps. ?
So, I just unplugged my phone from the charger and what do you know, car mode enabled lol...you think its something on my sd card maybe??
Ok, I think my phone is possessed! Now, not only does it go into car mode, it disables it and reenables it. So while my phone is off, it turns on with the car mode icon n the notification area, and then turns off and the icon disappears. After a minute it does the whole sequence all over again!! I think the devil lives in my phone and is just f$?!&@ with me....smh
I had the same problem with my Evo wen i first got it..... then one day it just stopped. Mine only did it when I plugged it in though, but it was a good month that it was doing it and like I said it just stopped. Hope the same happens for you.

does it still do that if you freeze car mode apk? Or uninstall it? I saw someone that even with the apk uninstalled it continued but i should think freezing or uninstalling is worth a shot. I'll also ask him if he ever got his fixed...

This car mode issue is caused by a problem with the USB port. It is sensing that it's connected to a car dock, so it launches car mode. You might need to unroot and take your phone into Sprint to get it fixed.

It happens when my phone is not connected to the charger though.
It's a hardware problem with the USB port. Something happens and it always thinks it's connected to a car dock. 2 of my 4 phones have had this problem. Both had to be replaced.

Yes, that's exactly the problem. It senses a car dock connection even when nothing is connected to the USB port.

Car mode on!

I'm using CM9 A2 right now. I don't know how, but one of my friend switched the 'car mode' on. Now my phone rotates 360° and ALL calls directly go to speaker phone.
I had got 'car mode' on notification once. Then it never came back. But I definitely saw it.
What all I tried:
- Restarting the phone
- Factory Reset
- Change Google Account
- Wiped everything and flashed the ROM again
PLEASE tell me how the hell do I shut it.

Ok so I don't think it was because of the google account. I even tried changing the google account but this thing just pops up again! GRR. Please help!!

Dirt inte the micro-USB connector. IE it thinks a car charger i plugged in because there is some short in the USB port.
Saw another thread on the same issue.
He do I fix it?

Clean it somehow, maybe stabbing the USB-connection a few times with the charger connector
Try to find the other thread where it was mentioned, I think they carefully cleaned the micro-usb with something until it worked.
Oh damn, it was in Wildfire S sub-forum itself?
Will try finding it right away!
Reflash the rom with GAPPS that doesn't contain Car mode? Maybe that fixes it?

Calls Routed To Loudspeaker & Clock App Launches

Helllloooooo, everyone!
I don't know if I've done something stupid or not, but my wildfire is really messing up, I was running CM 7.2 RC1 and basically, all of a sudden this morning I have had a "Car Mode Enabled" or similar notification.
BUT
I don't have Car Home installed?
and since this, all my calls are routed to Loudspeaker immediately
and when I press, "Home" it launches the Clock app?
I have tried the following:
clearing defaults I could think of - Holo launcher, Clock, Android System.
installing and removing Car Home apk.
Flashing NEW NIGHTLY
AFTER flashing lastest nightly "cm-7-20120812-NIGHTLY-buzz", I rebooted, and it seemed to be running ok,... I then had to reboot again...... and the problem came again....? HELP? this aint good :crying:
and now I have given up and going back to an NANdroid backup of the CM7.2. - THIS IS AN EARLIER BACKUP OF CM7.2 AS MENTIONED ABOVE.
EDIT:
It is now doing it on this NANdroid as well...

rings a bell - there has been another guy who seem to have a similar/the same problem (not solved...?)
Have you cleared (better wiped) dalvik-cache after uninstalling the apps?
You could try this clean flashing method (if you didn't already):
- format /system
- wipe /cache
- flash CM7
- flash gapps
- reboot
If that doesn't work, I'd try a completely fresh install of CM
- format /system, /data
- wipe /cache, dalvik-cache
- flash CM
- flash gapps
- reboot
If that works: partial restore ("advanced") of data, see if it's working then
Data/data will store system removed apps data file so look at deleting any car home data from there too. Its been mentioned that it could be caused from a dirty/faulty usb hole port!! Try cleaning that too.

Ok, well I don't know what happened but I think it was a faulty USB port.
I was using the phone as it is, even though it does get irritating *sigh* lol.
Whilst at a friends, my phone died, I attempted to use a micro USB charger there, but it did not charge as I THEN noticed that the connection was minutely smaller.
when I got home, I put my phone on charge, turned it on and it was displaying the "Car Home Enabled" notification, so I "clicked to exit" and since then, it hasn't done it
I think the other charger knocked something off the contacts, like a lot of people are saying they had stuff in the port?
at least I know where I can find something to use if it happens again!

This has already been mentioned in at least 2 or 3 other threads with a similar problem: a dirty usb port might lead into activation of car home (or worse).
I'd give a compressed air blast a try as the problem most likely could occur again...

I took it to a repair shop, where I was told to send it to Samsung to do a heavy-duty root. The power button does need to be replaced because there is no spring when you push down on it. I have no idea if there's a root glitch. Has anyone sent their phone to Samsung? What happened? Are there alternatives?
Thank you!

It was amazing, I had the same problem but all i did was open up the back up undoing all the tiny screws and then took a can on compressed air and sprayed out the power button and its been working for more than a month now with the problem completely gone! try that first before sending to sammy.
Ok I am in the same boat. My device does not boot up, it will get to Samsung logo and restart half the time and the other half just vibrates every 2 seconds. I removed the battery while plugged in and it still vibrates. I took it apart and blew the power button with compressed air and nothing. Here is the funny thing if I bang the hell out of it, it almost boots up. Is there something that I can do less than sending it to Sammy ? If not I will sell it on craigslist for parts.

Same thing here. Only way to get it to power on is by hitting it, the harder the better it seems. After it turns on, touching the power button will make it go in to the restart loop 90% of the time. This sucks!
For me this started after I dropped my phone...with the case on and on carpet. I have also opened it up and sprayed with compressed air to no avail.

Hi Folks,
I had the same problem, the problem started when I dropped my fone on carpeted floor, here are symptoms
Fone restarts on its own, start the boot, inbetween the boot starts again, then, keeps vibrating every two seconds, you have to pull the battery out to stop it,
As soon as you put the battery back in, it restarts, again getting stuck, and then vibrating every two secods,
Here is what i did
- Cursed Samsung for making a sh***y phone - Didnt work
- Smacked my phone with whatever I could fine - Didnt work
- Opened all the screws up, took apart phone, pulled out the power button module (pcb), noticed power button was loose, put some glue into it, dried it, put it back, & ITS BEEN WORKING SINCE THEN ! It was a hardware fault, its not software !
Just my two cents, it worked in my case, I cannot guarantee if it will in your case too, try at your own risk !!

Same issue with SGH-M919. I was rooted and the rom I tried to use wouldn't work because the kernel caused some issues so I figured I would go back to stock. The device wouldn't go into recovery mode, so I flashed the stock rom via Odin. After the ROM loaded, the phone reset and I saw the Samsung screen then it rebooted and so on each time. It's not the power button as it works, has the spring feel to it and the phone would come one by itself if it was broken. So what can I do or am I in trouble?
Also, the phone will vibrate every 2 seconds

Sure, the power button will "work", but if it's constantly vibrating and rebooting, it's probably an issue with the power button. Do what it shows in the video I posted, and if you do it right it'll probably fix it. I gad to attempt it twice as it didn't fix it the first time, but it's been like 4 months and I haven't had an issue since.
Thank you but it was the kernel causing problems. Somehow, the new ROM messed up the partitions and subsequently required a full wipe including all data then I flashed the stock ROM back via Odin and it was fine. I rooted it again and flashed Bliss Pop 1.8 and I love that ROM. No issues at all. Thanks for the help. I'm slowly learning about ROMs and Linux etc.. I appreciate the help. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can learn more??? Where do I post to get past this 10 posts rule???
