Desire won't recognise sd card - Oxygen RC7 - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I upgraded from Oxygen RC6 to RC7, in between, I performed s-off, flashed the oxygen hboot table, resized the sd card with gparted and then formatted card. I then did a full wipe and installed RC7.
However, I can no longer see the SD card as being mounted once I boot up the desire, if I go to recovery>advanced>usb i'm able to see the the card fine and i'm able to install stuff via recovery but it seems as though the card isn't being mounted once it boots.
Also, when I connect via usb it starts charging instead of coming up with the sd card files. Tried turning usb debugging on/off but that doesn't help.
Any ideas how to rectify this?
edit: tried a different micro sd card and it's doing the same thing

Could be an issue with the ROM. You could try another 2.3 ROM.

Does your PC recognize your phone? You might a have a usb brick and have to flash the modified misc partition. Search ad usb brick modaco.
Sent from my LeeDroided Desire HD

managed to sort it in the end, formatted the card in recovery then plugged it in and it came up with a dialog box in windows saying format the card (again), after which it started detecting the card again.
At least that's what I think it was anyway

[Q] She is bricked (pls not) HELP!

Hi,
Was running on LeeDroid 1.9, wiped and flashed for OpenDesire 3.4, came up fine then rebooted for the 3.4.2 patch and now my Desire just will not go past the HTC logo screen no matter what I do.
I can boot into recovery and have full access to everything, tried formatting the SD card and loading different ROMS but stuck @ the HTC green logo on white background.
Even Revoked3 again but the prob is not getting into the Recovery menu, its getting past that HTC screen.
Any info / idea's / help?
Thanks
Russ
If your phone turns on its not bricked, there will be a way to fix any issues your having, its just finding the correct one.
When flashing other roms did you wipe everything?
Data
Dalvik Cache
Ext parititon (if you have one)
Not wiping Dalvik is the number one reason roms get stuck bootlooping on bootscreen1.
Alternatively, it is booting but your not waiting long enough, you can always run adb logcat while booting to see if they phone is actually doing anything.
Hi,
Thank you for replying....
Figured it out that it is the SD card, here is the situation:
- Boot into recovery but cannot mount nor format the SD card
- Can see the SD card in MAC/ Windows and formated it Fat32
- Can boot without SD card
- Can boot with another SD card which is only 128Meg so cannot get LeeDroid back on it to reflash that ROM
I obviously need to format the SD card proper and it looks like I need to use Gparted but that looks like a HUGE Linux ISO download unless you know of a MAC version of it I can use?
Thanks
Found a 2Gig SD Card, got LeeDroid back on it, flashing and hoping I can boot with the original SD card so I can format with ROM manger but thinking it wont boot up with the SD card in regardless of the ROM, lets hope!
if you don't manage to boot it up. find this in the forum "PB99IMG.zip" w/o the quotes. format your sd card and put the archive in root of sd card. after that turn on your phone by pressing volume down and power on/off. wait till phone recognizes the archive and follow onscreen directions. phone should boot normally as unrooted. use unrevoked to root again and flash any rom you want.
post result.
Okay I am up but not on my original SD card, using a spare.
In recovery mode my phone refuses to mount nor format the card but can see it 100%
Seen some posts of a ADB cmd I need to use or is there something else I can try?
Thanks!
I ran "unrevoked" on my phone again and it booted when I had that problem.
But I took out the sd card when I did that. Not sure if it helps. But who knows.
Tried that, booting without the card is fine, with the card in is the issue, phone cannot see it.

[Q] Finally reached a problem I cannot fix on my own, please help

So my phone and computer will not detect my sd card after I dropped my phone.
Here is everything I have tried:
hard reset
sdhc micro adapter for my computer
pulling out sd card and reinserting
pulling battery and letting sit for awhile and plugging battery back in
I followed the sd card and usb fix issue found in the forums, but everytime I install the jdk the sdk installer says it is not found.
I know if I am able to format the card somehow it will fix it i think. but I cannot get anything to recognize it, or if I can figure out what single driver is missing on my phone I can figure the rest out from there.
The sdhc adapter works with the new micro it came with but not mine.
I am still able to use my phone but I obviously cant do **** without the sd card.
I have a recent backup of my sd card on my computer I just need a way to get it to my sd card and I am stumped.
Thanks for your help guys
Is there a way to force my comp to read the sd card?
Update
One thing I was just able to do was to take the micro sd that came with my adapter and my phone reads it just fine. However it is only a 2 gb. Like I said, I have a back up on my computer of everything that was on my sd card at one point. Being that my phone can read sd cards, does this help at all with somehow fixing my factory one?
Since I am now able to get into rom manager and my phone recognizes some sort of sd card. Would flashing some sort of sense ROM allow me to put my original sd card in and format it?
If all you want to do is repartition and/or reformat it, boot into recovery and do it there. While in recovery, especially is your recovery is amonRA v2.3, select the "MS-USB" option and serif your computer detects it while you're connected via USB.

I am currently using clockwork. I tried the mount unmount options in recovery mode. I have never really tried amon-ra for anything but now might be the time to give it shot.

SD card not recognized by ROMs?

Strange problem with this desire, I can access the SD card from recovery with stuff like USB-MS and flashing from SD but with stock it says the SD card isn't recognized (the options in Settings are all grayed out). With a rom that has Apps2SD like InsertCoin where some of the main apps are installed to the card it just leaves me with a blank screen on boot with the background/top bar still there.
Pretty strange desire really, when I first looked at it the problem I mentioned above was happening (it was originally on InsertCoin, worked for around 4 months before this started) so I reflashed it to stock and then had it returned to me with the owner saying that their SD was broken.
If anyone knows how to fix this it would be much appreciated as I'm as stuck as a brick wall right now :/
Explain your problem in no more than 2 sentences that actually make sense and I may be able to help you out.
Add on information such as
ROM you are/were using
Can you boot
Does PC recognise phone
Hboot (S-ON/ S-OFF)
Have you tried with another SD ? Maybe it is the SD thats broken ?

Sorry, let me dumb it down a bit:
In Amon Ra recovery it sees the SD card fine and lets me use it over USB fine too but when I boot up into a ROM it doesn't seem to find it.
Using InsertCoin/stock ROM and neither recognize it, it boots up fine and the PC can see the phone too, but since it can't mount the SD card I can't use disk drive mode :/ It's using S-OFF hboot too.

The SD is fine, it works in recovery and in my own desire but I've tried another SD card to be sure and still nothing
hmm ok try to reformat the SD card using recovery and tell me if it works
I've had/got a similar problem. I believe it's a problem with the contacts between the sd card and the 'holder' for the sd card.
Try removing the back of your phone, removing the sd card, pushing down on the metal 'holder', replacing the sd card, and rebooting.
This works for me for anything between 1 minute and a couple of days before the problem starts again.
I have no idea why the card is still accessible in recovery. If the above had no effect then please ignore!
The only solution, and it's really not useful, is to remove the sd card. I've returned my phone for repair and nothing got replaced (my guess is because the sd card is still accessible on recovery)
EDIT: No longer convinced it's the contacts as whenever my phone 'freezes' if I reboot into recovery the sd card is always accessible.
Now think it's to do with the file system/structure on the sd card becoming corrupt.
If I format the sd card as one single fat32 and keep ALL apps on the phone then I have no problems.

[Q] USB and SD not recognized

Need a way to access internal memory so I can fix my usb or sd card see following for information:
Short Version:
USB wont work and SD card wont work so I cannot use the following method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
Long Version:
So right after i had backed up my rom i did a wipe, then the phone stopped recognizing my sd card. I took it to Sprint they couldn't figure it out, so i was stuck in Bootloader. yesterday i did a hard reset and wa-la i can now use my phone ...sorta. It will turn on I can access everything, but it freezes up and shuts off after 40 seconds (i got it to stay for 2mins one time) also it still will not recognize my sd card. I tried other cards still no luck and I know my card works because I can use it in my laptop. So i did a little searching on xda and found a fix, but i cant do the fix unless i plug my phone into the laptop and run a cmd prompt well now here is the other problem my computer sees the phone (listed as My HTC) but my phone wont recognize that it is plugged in. It will charge when it is shut off thats about it. Well back to xda and there is a fix for the usb, but.... I need my phone to recognize my sd card because the files will be on it. In short to fix my sd card i need usb and to fix the usb i need my card I am stuck in a horrible loop, so what I need is a way to access my phones internal memory so I can install the usb files on it so that i can fix usb then my card, then recover my rom.
Thanks to wall who help or at least try
Im not totally sure if this will help, but i know you can mount the sd card as usb storage in Amon_Ra and also in settings under "storage" or so i believe there are settings for mounting and unmounting the Micro Sdcard check those, it should be mounted in the settings for your phone to see it. hope i helped
I just had this exact same problem. Nandroid, wipe, flash, then stuck in bootloader spent two days trying fixes, unroot, root, and,had to turn it in. Luckily best buy has an awesome warranty.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
thanks all... ended up replacing my phone, but if anyone ever finds a way to fix it let me know! Thanks again
I was really hoping that this thread would not dead-end. I've got what sounds like a similar issue...in addition to not being able to reformat my SD card (in Windows or in Android) due to it being detected as write-protected, but it's not write protected.
I'm really anxious to try the aforementioned thread to fix USB and SD, but I can't detect, mount, or format my SD card. Am I screwed?
*EDIT* Fixed the write-protection issue...working on the rest now.
*EDIT* Still can't format card through Android. Is there an ADB or fastboot command to format the SD card?

[Q] Cannot mount SD Card - Many methods tried

Hello!
I have been a long time lurker and have been tweaking my phone for years.
Usually when I stuff something up, I can fix it.
That is not the case this time ;_;
This phone has been working fine for over 2 years without a reflash or anything done to it.
The battery died one Friday and the phone was not charged for 3 days.
It did not boot. HBOOT and Recovery were fine, but could not mount /sdcard in recovery
I ended up installing an RUU (Telstra_WWE_2.26.841.2). Cannot install other RUUs as sd card (Goldcard) cannot be read.
Android runs without recognising the SD card.
Recovery still does not recognise the SD card
Have tried:
- fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 (success, but did not fix problem)
- fastboot oem clearconfig
- S-Off and flashed different recoveries via Fastboot.
- 4Ext Recovery - USB Unbrick is ineffectual
- 4Ext Recovery - Partition sdcard correctly tells me the size of the sdcard, but then returns "Cannot read partition table"
- Two different SD Cards tried to no avail
This really sucks. I didn't even get to break my phone by myself.
Phone current status:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
RADIO-5.11.05.14
No suggestions?
- Strange, you ran the RUU from sd card though, so it must have mounted and read it? Are the two sdcards same brand? Do they work ok in another phone?
4EXT recovery is the best solution for this, surprised it doesn't work.
- USB unbrick doens't work at all?
- Can't partition either card? Have you tried completely reformatting first?
- Can't install any ROM.zip from sdcard?
If it still doesn't work, I'd try reformat and repartition using gparted, then full wipe and resintall ROM from scratch.

I ran the RUU from my computer because the SD card was out of action.
The two SD cards are different brands. Would that affect it a lot? They both work in card readers, card adapters, other computers, and other Android devices.

USB Unbrick does its little thing, then asks me to reboot recovery now. After reboot, I still get the "Error mounting your sdcard.." while 4ext is booting. 4ext then boots into safe mode.
I have completely reformatted and partitioned one of the cards in GParted running off a bootable USB stick, and that still didn't work.
Can't install anything from SD card ;_;
If it still doesn't work, I'd try reformat and repartition using gparted, then full wipe and resintall ROM from scratch.
Without an SD card, is installing a ROM possible?
Playing with all the settings in 4ext at the moment. I'll keep y'all posted.
When I click partition sdcard, it says "There is 9xxxxxxxx MB of space on your sd-card", which is why I don't think it is a hardware error.
I then clicked file system check, and then Repair Filesystem.
Partition sd-card now says there are 0MB of space on my sd-card. lol.
what is this i dont even
-------------------------------
Rebooted, partition sdcard reads the 9xxxx MB of space on the card, so no problems there.
Trying to repartition it gives this error "Error re reading partition table. Please reboot recovery and start over."
Last bump.
I can't figure this one out to be honest. I really thought a complete reformat in gparted would work. Are you trying this using a card reader i.e. partitioning while not in the phone?
I'm beginning to think that the phone has a hardware issue reading the actual sd card, because both cards work in other phones and are read by computers / card readers just fine.
Last resort, if you can't run the RUU from the computer.
- Reformat sdcard to FAT32 only
- Extract the 2.3.3 GB RUU from the ROM.zip, follow Step 7 of Bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied at the top of Q&A, to run the RUU from sd.

The complete reformat and partition was done with the micro SD in an SD adapter in a USB card reader plugged into a computer. I couldn't do it from the phone as the phone cannot read the darn thing.

The only problem with the phone having a hardware issue is that 4ext recovery "sees" the card and tells me that I have 8 GB of space on it. However, 4ext cannot do anything to the card.

I don't think this will work because the phone cannot see the SD card. Even converting a card to a goldcard and trying to install an RUU does not work.
This is quite saddening ;_;

But if 2 different sdcards work in card readers and mount in other Android devices, then logic says it could be a hardware issue with the Desire.
Just because 4EXT sees it, the fact that it can't mount it or do anything with it further reinforces this theory.

You need to try it though
2.3.3 GB RUU does not require a goldcard as far as I know. If you made a goldcard, that process may have gone wrong somewhere not sure.
Which is why a complete reformat, a single clean FAT32 partition needs to be tried.
Try Step 7, see if the phone can read the PB99IMG.zip when started up in bootloader
