Windows Media Player Streaming - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to stream windows media files on an Android OS? When I stream from my computer, WMP opens up, but obviously it doesn't on my EVO. However, it opens a new message which is strange.

No, Android doesnt support windows media streaming.

[Q] How to play streaming WMA music content on TouchPro2

I have an XM receiver which I "line in" into my computer and encode the music with Microsoft Expression Encoder 4. The encoder outputs it to a wma stream which I can then access over the Internet on other computers, laptops, etc. using the URL (which points to port 8090).
BUT I CAN'T GET IT TO PLAY ON MY TP2. On the phone, I have tried Windows Media Player, Nitrogen Player, and the phone's Streaming Media Player. Nothing works.
Suggestions welcome.

SPB Radio can stream music as long as you stream it through internet and in .pls format.
You can enter an URL as a new radio station and as long as it has a DNS or an external IP you should be fine. You can use Shoutcast to stream your own music from home (if that's what you want).
Home: Computer running with Winamp and Shoutcast, internet active and external IP.
Your phone: open SPB Radio and type your external IP followed by the port (Example http://81.254.128.68:8000)

[Q] How can I view iplayer video downloads?

Hi.
I recently upgraded from a hero to a desire, android 2.2, htc sense, and am having some issues with video playback.
I'm trying to play bbc iplayer tv programmes on the desire. This has so far been completely unsuccessful. I've downloaded both windows media player and portable device versions of various show's wmv files and copied those to the desire. No joy. I've tried with the stock android (sense) video player as well as moboplayer, rockplayer, act1. I've tried playing the wmv file and I've tried converting to mp4 format using AVC. In each case I have played the first few seconds of the wmv file in windows media player on the pc, presumably to pacify the drm.
If I try and play an iplayer show on the desire I either get a message along the lines of "sorry, unable to play this file", or the video player starts up, blanks the screen for a few seconds, then exits, or some kind of unintelligible graphical garbage appears with or possibly without sound.
Surely it shouldn't be this hard Is it even possible to play iplayer downloads on the desire? Can someone put me straight on this please.
TIA
Does it work in VLC player on your PC? If it does then maybe a codec error or something. Try redownloading it. I haven't tried it personally but I will try it now to see if there is anything wrong with it.
OK, have just downloaded the current episode of outnumbered from iplayer, the 'for portable devices' version. I played for a few seconds on pc with windows media player, to acquire the license, which was fine, but no joy in VLC. After a few seconds of displaying screwed up video VLC crashed.
Maybe this helps:

Its just the file format used. They should of used mp4

[Q] Windows Networking and UPNP rendering

Yes, this is not a Desire-specific question, but the greatest minds are all gathered in this forum, so...
I have a USB hard drive connected to my AVM Fritz Box, acting as a UPNP media server. I can access it with my Desire using any free UPNP player in the market I've tried so far, like 2player. I can also access it using the Windows Media Player on my computer running Win7 x64.
What I would actually like: Use my Android Desire to control the WMP on my computer. Theoretically this should be possible. I've activated all streaming and remote control options on the computer I could find, but 2player (and the expensive PlugPlayer) don't find the WMP, neither as Renderer nor as Server.
Any hints?
Thanks a lot!

[Q] 6.3.1 update changes local streaming SAMBA behaviour.

I noticed something after the latest update. Players like Dice-player and other media players can no longer stream media to my Kindle.
I have shows shared via Windows file share (SAMBA). Normally I could find these and play them on home home network via kindle. After Kindles latest update, I get the message "this media is not capable of streaming". Then the program starts to download the entire file to my kindle and THEN play it.
Its effectively neutered all media except local files or Amazon Instant video.
Has anyone noticed similar behavior?
