[Q] 6.3.1 update changes local streaming SAMBA behaviour. - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed something after the latest update. Players like Dice-player and other media players can no longer stream media to my Kindle.
I have shows shared via Windows file share (SAMBA). Normally I could find these and play them on home home network via kindle. After Kindles latest update, I get the message "this media is not capable of streaming". Then the program starts to download the entire file to my kindle and THEN play it.
Its effectively neutered all media except local files or Amazon Instant video.
Has anyone noticed similar behavior?

[Q] VLC

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone has managed to compile VLC for Android. From reading the forums, it seems it's getting pretty close, and I wanted to try it out, only I don't currently have a linux install to follow the comilation wiki :
http://wiki.videolan.org/AndroidCompile
Main reason is I want to be able to watch TV on my phone, as my French ISP (Free) allows streaming the IPTV using VLC. Works a treat on the PC.
So I thought maybe someone here has already done that and could share the install file.
Have you tried VLC Direct (from Market) to receive streaming media? If you are successful, getting the TV working shouldn't be hard.
Tried it, no good. If I enter the rstp address for a channel manually, it asks me what I want to open it with, it won't open it itself. And none of the players will accept it. I have vplayer, moboplayer, rockplayer and nothing works.
I could probably get it to work if I opened up the TV on the computer and then streamed it to VLC Direct, but that completely defeats the purpose.

[Q] Media Server from Outside of Home Network

How simple is it to allow my phone to view media streamed around my home network, when I'm out and about?
I know how to port forward and I use Serviio. Are there apps better suited to this than others? Can I just use EStrong File Explorer to browse to my home IP and port forward to the drive of my media server?
Any tips welcomed
Have you tried iMediaShare from the Market?
Or Audiogalaxy, also from the market. Requires registration and an app to be installed on your PC, but easy to setup and works like a charm.
I use subsonic, works a dream and a doddle to setup. think there was a license fee (£13) and you can stream or download direct to the phone.
just my 2cents
iMediaShare looks to be sending media from my phone to a TV, which I can do already with Skifta.
AudioGalaxy looks to be music only and it's actually more about video for me.
Subsonic says it does most video formats are supported, so I'll give that a go.
Many thanks everyone
iMediaShare starts a DLNA host/server so it can stream and play media (audio/video) from your media server (via Wi-Fi locally or via 3G). It can also stream youtube and all other listed sources to your DLNA enabled devices.
Well Subsonic didn't seem to be able to play my videos, so I'll try iMediaShare then, thanks.
**EDIT** I've just realised Skifta has a remote access, so I'll give that a go first, as I'm signed up with them already.

[Q] Note2 as DLNA Renderer [PS3 Media Server] - Anyone Had Success?

Hi Folks,
I have an Ubuntu Server running the PS3 Media Server (pms-linux) DLNA server.
I have it configured to stream audio/video files out to PS3, iPad (via AirPlayer or GoodPlayer apps). It also happily streamed to my Sony Xperia Arc S via the built in DLNA app there (which pushed the stream to MX Player).
Having moved to the Note2, I hoped to continue to use the functionality, and was happy to see the stock Music/Video players plus AllShare Player all have DLNA functionality, and, indeed, the server shows in the list of local servers.
However upon trying to connect to the server, I get various error messages on the phone. Tailing the logs, I have adjusted the Android.conf file so that it's selected when the Note2 connects, I've also had it so that the same file as the Xperia Arc S uses is selected. Both, however, to no avail. The phone continues to refuse to have anything to do with PS3 Media Server, I can't stream files from it & play them on the phone.
I'm going to go looking around Google Play for other DLNA capable apps, and couple those with MX Player, to see if I have any better luck, but it would be great to be able to ge the stock apps working.
Has anyone else had any luck with this? If so, could you post your .conf file?
Thanks!
Gav.
Skifta
Well... I tried the same thing. But I couldn't. The best option to stream to XMB is with Skifta. It works perfectly for me with videos, photos and music too.
ArkMC
I use ArkMC for near the same case
It has free version with dlna renderer.
Also tried Skifta - nice design but boring usability.

Realplayer Cloud issues..

I decided to give realplayer cloud a shot and from what I can tell it could be useful. However, after installing it on my FireTV, Win7 laptop, Roku, Android phone and Android tablet this is what I found:
All devices connect and can play videos uploaded to the cloud. However, I'm really only interested in playing off other local networked devices. Specifically, I want to watch tablet videos on my FireTV and to a lesser extent on my Roku.
PC: no access to other local devices by design. Working properly.
Roku: plays videos from PC, finds tablet but can't see any videos on it, does not see FTV or phone.
Tablet: plays videos from PC or phone, does not see FTV.
Phone: plays videos from PC or tablet, does not see FTV.
FTV: does not see PC, tablet or phone. Takes 5-10 login attempts before it actually logs in, sometimes claiming it couldn't login but it really does (can play videos on my cloud drive). Exiting and restarting or rebooting requires me to login again. I have cleared cache, cleared data, uninstalled, removed from cloud, then re-installed - no change. I have over 1G free space.
I've turned on local sharing on all devices and checked everything I could think of. Browsing the network with explorer finds the FireTV.
Ok, let's try this another way...
Is anyone using RealPlayer Cloud from the FTV store (not a side-loaded version) and are able to see and play videos from other local network devices?

video with subtitles - what player do i need to watch it with? stored on computer

i have plex and xbmc installed but they can't see the subs which are on my local macbook drive...?
is there a way of getting subs acrss and access them? do i need to use an external player like vlc or something...
i store all my video files on my macbook which i access via xbmc or plex which finds it over the wifi etc
