[Q] Kernel flashing (Kernel update utility) - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
This post is related to the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852357&page=16
Unfortunately I can't post my query in there due to being <10 posts. Anyway, my query, basically I've rooted my DHD tonight and was about to flash my kernel to Buzz 1.2.1.
On using the Kernel Update Utility I'm unable to click through to next, after selecting the Buzz 1.2.1 zip folder. I'm assuming I need to add a module of some description, but am unsure... I already had a bootloop once tonight after flashing it originally from CWM, so would like to do it this way.
Can anybody lend a hand?
Cheers, James

Ignore that, I'd neglected to choose the "CWM Zip" option instead of the Kernel option. Now flashed and working nicely.
Sorry guys!

[Q] HELP PLZ...Cannot flash custom ROM on Evo!!

Hey all
First off, I have done all my research to try and answer this myself.. I GIVE UP! I have to be missing something.
I just rooted my HTC Evo using the unrevoked method..FULL ROOT 2.2 YAY!!!
Also, I followed all the steps from the UNLOCKR.com vid to unlock nandroid in hopes of being able to flash a custom rom. I now have the HBOOT .76 ver I think...downgraded from the .93 ver.
Everything seemed to go through seemlessly. But, when I go into recovery and try to flash the rom with the custom recovery (AMOS RA? I think is the one I am using, previously had clockwork mod but didn't like as much)...anyhow I keep getting an error after I try to flash the ZIP, MYNS WARM TWOPOINT TWO ROM to be exact. It says "E: Can't find update script" WHAT AM I DOING WRONG OR NOT DOING??? PLZ ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!! THANKS IN ADVANCE. Sorry if this has been answered but I really did search with no avail!
Thanks again!
Trying to get this figured out ASAP!

Are you by chance using a mac when you download the file?

Also, make sure the zip file you download isn't corrupt. Try and extract or peek inside to see if all the files are intact; more specifically, look for the update/updater script in the META-INF/com/google/android folder.
I did use a mac to download the roms.
I rooted my Evo using a Mac and installed roms using a mac. For nand unlock it should already unlock from the unrevoked method, but mine had hboot 97. There is a thread in the development area where you can find hboot 73 to flash.

My friend that uses a mac has had issues with roms like this. For some reason his mac was changing the compression when he would download the zip files. You might want to look into that.

Thank you very much. I did notice that the mac will actually de-compress the file as it downloads and when you re-compress the file it doesn't keep the correct format. Booted up windows 7 on my mac and re downloaded all the roms and kernal that I wanted and it worked flawlessly. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP GUYS!! GREAT ADVICE AND AWESOME RESPONSE TIME. Mods plz close..issue solved!!!
Downloaded ROM automatically decompressed...
Ran into this when I started trying to flash ROMs on my Mac...come to find out I was in Safari and once downloaded, the ROM was automatically decompressed and taken out of .zip form. I downloaded the same files using Firefox, and it gave the option to either have something decompress the downloaded file automatically, or save the .zip file to the HD. Once I selected save the .zip file, it was gravy. Just a lil help since I didn't see it posted. Have fun!

Just rooted other day, when I finally found a rom I liked I had the exact same issue. Used that glorious search function on this forum, and found this.
Installed and downloaded rom via Firefox, and now running MikFroyo !!!

Check it in the sticky thread named "complete wildfire index" in the dev section.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Actually I downloaded ROM manager a month ago (give or take) and it said "current version 2.5.0.7" but when I rebooted it rebooted in the version 3.xxx I flashed myself. Yesterday however I clicked "flash CMR" in ROM manager (where it said 'current version 2.5....') and now I have version 2.5. ..... so perhaps you can get an early version like that too.
also a quick search on google gave me this link to http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZMTP39N0 for a 2.5.0.7 version, but I have no idea if this link is valid so use at own risk.
This still not being a 2.6 version, but perhaps it is useful to you
2.5.X.X is the most stable anyway (or so they say), and I'm pretty sure there's little or no difference with 2.6....

[Q] Why does CWM remove its own update...

Why is it that when I Flash a new ROM to my Buzz that CMW version changes back to the one that I originally installed rather than being the updated 5.xx version that I have installed?
P.S. I have searched everywhere on here to find out BTW.
Thanks to any answerers.

I find that very hard to believe, what I suspect is that its not replacing your actual cwm but the rom manager cwm version and the reason that is, would be the version of rom manager the new flashed rom your flashing is not updated. Rom manager is normally included as a system app in many roms so when you wipe to flash the new rom,the rom manager version you were using will now be replaced with the included apps version within the rom your flashing. Turn your phone off and reboot into hboot (power button and volume down) to access your phones cwm version to check, I bet this remains the same whatever rom your using. Hope this helps your queery. Regards Slymobi.

You may have used the update.zip method, which is temporary. Try using the P49IMG.zip method (I think it is in the dev section)

Strange Problem With ARC LT15i.

I was installing Custom Rom to Stocked LT15i with (Bootloader Status Allowed = YES) phone And i faced a strange problem that I never faced before. Below is detail of my problem
1. I Installed Stock 4.0.4 Stock ICS Firmware Via Flashtool before it was on same 4.0.4 but its was updated via PCC.
2. I Try to unlock its bootloader from official site i got the key and try to unlock but Fastboot command said its already unlocked bootloader. So I head to next step.
3. I rooted it with Prerooted kernel image. name ARC Autoroot v1 its worked fine.
4. I installed ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7-nAa-r2 via batch command provided but a user in this section. worked fine.
5. Now Problem is Any Custom rom i want to install from CWM its give me (satus 7) eroor. I preceded steps 1 to 5 again n again but same error.
6. I tried all the solution for Error status 7 provided by user but no luck. like build.prop and removing some script.
one thing i noticed its IMEI start with 01 m not sure it is the cause. Let me know what is the easiest way to install custom rom to it. Its belong to my friend.
(I am able to flash any kernel )
I search all the night but didn't find solution so i ask.

Not sure what you've been searching for - status 7 error xperia arc
You need to flash compatible kernel for the custom ROM you are trying to flash. For example, when you download CM10 ROM, kernel boot.img is included in that rom zip. First we install compatilbe kernel(boot.img in case of CM10) and install rom zip from CWM.
Download and install CM 10 just to make sure you are doing it right. But first flash kernel first.

Sounds like you're using the wrong command then. The right one is fastboot flash boot nameofkernel.img

Lg Nitro HD Can't Get Into CWM

Hey everyone, this is my first post so I'm sorry if this has been brought up and I just haven't found it. I have my Nitro rooted and I can't seem to get into cwm to install a new rom. I tried installing through rom manager and doing it manually and...nothing. I get a secure boot error. I've tried just about everything and I just can't seem to get into recovery! What's the problem? Thanks! (I posted this in the wrong place at first so please excuse the double. Sorry.)

you have to unbrick, follow unbricking guide, you got locked by a secure bootloader, you have to flash an older version of gingerbread using lg tools then install CWM recovery.
it's the 2nd link on the forums
i'll give it to you just to be nice
