[Q] How to get flash lite? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using CM6.1 (rooted and S-OFF). I am looking through the n00b FAQ and it was mentioned that I can get flash lite. I know Flash 10.1 is not working for MT3G due to hardware no support. My question is, how do I get flash lite (flash lite 4?)
I could not find it in market, but maybe someone had an .apk or .img file?
Thanks.

I was under the impression that Flash Lite doesn't work with Froyo's browser.
EDIT: I should say, STOCK Froyo's browser. My bad.

I think the Flash Lite in the Froyo OTA only works for Sense.
You could try pulling it from there and installing and see what happens.

Every sense rom has flash lite plugin so if u really want that u have to install a sense rom not cm6. Go for 3rd sense or the new froyo ota

Thanks! I like CM.. guess I will have to live without flash for a while, or hope to have the CM developer team to integrate that.

They won't since sense is closed source so they don't mess with that... just use skyfire xD
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App

Well I tried pulling it from CR's OTA and it failed... What a surprise!
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App

Thanks for trying. I do have skyfire, but somehow I like the stock browser better. seems more simple.

I've seen in Lg GT540 section, Android development thread they found a way to get flash lite working on a rom without Sense ui. I never tried it, but I'm very excited to get it working on CM7. Maybe you should check it out.

I've had that same problem. I did a reboot, uninstalled and reinstalled, cleared data, but still nothing.
I'm running CM6.

could be the DEV removed the rom ?
+1 .
ROM manager is broken. I even flashed from CM6 to Fresh's latest and the same issue.

yeah its messed up, any know any good alternatives? rom manager is easy to use but no good right now and dont want to have problems when flashing new roms
Hopefully the dev didn't abandon it. I have the paid version.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I believe the dev has a certain way the mirrors, etc for each ROM has to be posted so it can be parsed by ROM Manager. I'm not sure if the devs are doing this.
I also paid for the full app and some do work and update (like CM6 nightlies and fresh) - so it makes me think the devs aren't posting their roms to his server..
There was a post about how to add it around the dev forum somewhere

The OP said he did not want to use odin and upgrade the modem.
But, I do agree that the latest viper rom is great. Using odin to upgrade the modem is not difficult and the epic is pretty much impossible to brick so I would encourage you to try upgrading your modem to dk28 and going with viper or bonsai. Both are great roms. If you don't like them it is easy to use odin to return to stock.

Oh my bad, I thought the DI18 viper rom was still available but I just checked and it isn't. So then my next opinion is Syndicate or Epic Experience.
If you're looking for a DI18 ROM, OP, just click the link in my signature.
If you want 2.1: Go with ACS rom
If you want 2.2: Go with midNIGHT, bonsai, or viper [in that order]
I was on midNIGHT for the longest and it is fast, stable, everything works! I'm currently on viper. I def like the rom. I find that the battery seems to drain faster than midNIGHT even though i'm getting about 9hrs on viper. Navigation is not working atm, but i'm sure it'll be fixed by the weekend.
That said, being a former hero owner, it may seem confusing and hard at first but its really not difficult at all... just read up and drop a reply, someone will be willing to help!
Hey man I came from a Hero and I felt really intimidated too. I actually thought I bricked my Epic first and then had to learn how to use ODIN. Its actually pretty sweet because as long as you can boot into "download mode" on your phone (the number 1 and power) you can restore back to stock via ODIN. I would suggest you take the time read up on how to use ODIN and flash the dk28 build with the modem. Just be aware that it can mess with GPS.
I finally have a ROM I like "Truley Epic Rebirth" its the only DK28 Rom that has a modified kernel that will give you full adb permissions. Every other Rom only gives you root permission via shell with is annoying if you do any font customizations or custom boot-screens etc...
Bonsai ROM definitely! 4G Sprint hotspot app works, nav, gps, no force closes. I'm running it with ADW on top and it's quite stable.

do as he says! if you don't want to upgrade to dk28 modem then syndicate ROM is def the way to go.. smoothest dkI18 rom out.
Flashing zips is easy with the epic. I say try em all and decide for yourself which one you like best. Load up your sd card and while watching your favorite tv show flash away until you find one you like. I will tell you this though, all of the 2.2 roms are based on the same kernel until we have an official source so there isn't a whole lot of difference. As far as appearance goes you can theme over any rom. Personally I'm running midnight rom with the emotionless beast theme but I change my rom out from time to time, one thing I don't change is my theme. Love the emo beast!
If you want to go to froyo then def. Bonsai. A new version is getting ready to be released and its fast and very stable.

Overclocking kernel

I'm not sure if anybody else asked this question, since I couldn't find similar topics on the slide forum, so here goes.
I just rooted my phone and flashed it with the "unofficial" release version of slide rom, since this is my first time rooting, and I tried to flash this: "dopio" OC cm-2.6.29.6, for my overclocking kernel. But when I do this, the phone refuse to start up, it gets stuck in the splash screen. If I don't flash it, then it works fine. Anybody knows why?
I didn't want to go with CyanogenMod 6.1.1 because I can't find the google addons and I don't want to jump right on to CM7 just yet (not sure if I can live without the sense widgets yet, lol). But if CY7 RC2 has most, if not all, of the functionality of the slide sense rom I'm currently using (like wifi hotspot, or maybe a built-in oc kernel) then I might as well flash that.
Thanks and sorry if this has been answered
.29 kernels are not compatible with the newer roms, you must either use the built in kernel or miguels smartass kernel (.32 kernels) (some1 would have to pm you that kernel because it was removed)

Which gapps did you flash, it should be the universal 0120 or 0115 gapps.

I knew I had the 307, but looks like I got the 120 with no problem even though it gave me an error message... I'll give the 120 a shot, since 307 didn't give me Market at all.
edit: ok, the 120 works for cm7, so I'll give cm7 a spin again. cm6 still doesn't have market with gapp 120.
If you like sense then flash the gratious slide rom on the mytouch slide forum. If not that then wait for the gingerbread sense rom that is about to be released. If you flash the gratious sense rom, then don't flash a overclock kernel over it because it already has it with the rom.

yea, i'm having trouble finding miguel's kernel.
i've been having on and off success with the kernel found in CM6. Can someone PM me the kernel? Looked everywhere, but couldn't find it.
The gingerbread 0115 and 0120 gapps won't work on cm6 I don't think, you need the 1220 or whatever ones there were from december for froyo, and there's a 307? Jesus, how often do they even have to be updated, all it is is the market apk and the gapps installer apk

Ahhh, no wonder. Well, I guess I'll have to revert back to CM7 RC1 if I don't want to deal with Market problems then. When I tried to download the gapp that came with CM6, it gives me 404 error, so that's no good unless somebody can pm me the froyo gapp.

was having trouble downloading/installing apps from market, then somebody told me to uninstall the update on market and that did the job. the only strange thing is GPS signal seems to be really weak comparing to before rooting, i used to be able to get my location in my dorm before rooting, not anymore tho tried reflashing the newest radio and all that stuff already, but i guess i can wait till the stable version comes out.
edit: o.o the download link for cm6 gapp is good again, but i think i'll stick with cm7 for now, it works better for me.
GPS has had some issues with cm7, it's well documented. Be thankful it works at all, a lot of people still have broken wifi and gps

[Q] g2 good idea to root now - or wait?

i am basically looking to root my tmobile g2 just to put sense on it...
but it has already been confirmed that there will be a ginger bread update from htc/tmobile in the coming months..
also sense 3.0 from what i can tell has been floating around on some roms - but will the g2 ever be able to run the new sense without having the dual core? also seems like the htc sensation rom has different resolution from the g2.
so do i root and put sense on my g2 now - or wait

The upcoming GB update won't give you Sense, it'll still be a "with Google" build; if you want Sense, the only way to get it on the G2 is to root the device and install a Sense based ROM.

How do I go about doing this the right way with having the option to restore/backup?
Also do any of the sense roms work with wifi calling?

If you're unfamiliar with things, the easiest way is with ROM Manager. Once rooted (use the method in the wiki as it's the most up to date) download ROM Manager from the Market. From ROM Manager flash ClockworkMod Recovery. After that, backup your current ROM (name it "Stock", or something that makes sense to you), download the Virtuous ROM (it's the most stable Sense ROM for the G2, from what I've found) and follow the prompts.
Since you're switching between incompatible ROMs, non-Sense/Sense, you will have to do a full wipe. Your contacts and apps will sync (if you have that currently set) but your data won't. To remedy this, before flashing download Titanium Backup and backup all your user apps, you can then use Titanium to push back your apps and data (don't opt to push back your system data as all hell will break lose).

If you want Sense, then you have to root regardless, so why wait to root?
The test version of the Vision/DesireZ ROM with Gingerbread and Sense 3.0 has been leaked, and the SenseGinger custom ROM is based on that. So its not a port. There are still a few fairly minor bugs, but it seems pretty stable if you want to try it out. But no WiFi calling.

mmm no wifi calling might be a deal breaker for me - i loose signal where i work and rely on the wifi signal to receive and make calls...
is there no wifi calling on the sense rom because its based off the desire z (Uk)?
Not sure the reason for WiFi calling not working. It steps on the toes of lots of carriers, so I can see it being left out of the generic HTC ROM, which the leaked test ROM is (the WWE version, or worldwide english). This version of SenseGinger is really new (April 13), so the developers may get it working. Not sure what their intent is, so you might read thru the SenseGinger thread and see if its discussed.
For instance, on Virtuous, WiFi calling only works on T-Mobile by design of the developers. So I'm thinking this feature is a T-Mob exclusive?

You shouldn't wait to root your device base on the upcoming update since probably, they'll patch it somehow so currents rooting methods won't work, like the update on the DesireZ that people have to downgrade in order to root. And yes there are Sense rom that works with wifi callings. Go for it!

What's best for nitro p930?

Hi guys, got nitro hd a few weeks later. Till now never rooted and it's still in gb 2.3.5. Now wanted to try something and thought of upgrade or flashing a roms.
So what I need is, should i go for official ICS or cm rom. And as I'm a noob would like a detailed tutorial on flashing/rooting.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here's my suggestion of how to progress into the custom ROMs world...
1. Read about rooting your Nitro. Look in our Dev Forum for guides on doing it.
2. Root while you're still on 2.3.5 (to circumvent any of the stated issues with rooting Official ICS), also install CWM (ClockworkMod) on it as it will allow you to easily install ROMs.
3. Then try the CM9 ROM nightlies. It's fast, stable and smooth.
4. After you've gotten comfortable with that and have gone through a few nightlies...Then you can feel free to venture forth into the other custom ROMs (MAKE SURE you're familiar with making proper backups in case you want to revert back to previous builds/ROMs), or even the CM10 Preview builds.
Good luck!

Sorry to Hijack .But isnt it like a Pain to Root the Official ICS update ,wouldnt it be easier to root on 2.3.5 and install CWM and then flash ? Im not second guessing you ,I just got my Nitro HD today but been reading that the process to root ICS is kind of long and tricky.

You could be right. I rooted mine back on 2.3.5 so I haven't gone through any of the hassles as have been stated with rooting from official ICS. I shall adjust my original post.
Doble check.
OP double check your baseband version cuase if its 2.3.5 V10j ,it has been stated that its nearly impossible yet doable after many tries.
To be honest, I don't know more details about the android world. Can someone plz link the basics of android like cwm, adb & so I can have some basic knowledge about it.
Actually, I feared I would brick it.

Try the official ics before custom ics, it's WAY faster than official gingerbread, it's stable and once debloated it's pretty perfect as it is to me.
Then if you want to taste something else, try the cm9/10 but I would let them as a second passage to ics/jb.
For the official rom you can either flashing with lg tool (using the before - after rooting method brianlily posted here) or go with cwm as stated by rani9990, it should be the same.. the substantial difference is that if you don't put the cwm recovery before ics, then you'll need to go through partial unbrick process to revert back to gingerbread, because on ics the cwm won't be possible to install.
