Does anyone know why skyraider rom would show my location through maps and weather incorrect? I had 3.2 skyraider, and it showed correctly, and have tried virtuous and it shows correctly. I have deleted the widget for clock and weather, removed and added location services, no luck.
Don't know. No problems here. What radio and kernel are your running?

was the stock froyo, didn't work then just changed over to 2.15.00.09.01, didn't work, and i am using whatever kernal comes with the 3.5 skyraider.
I also just went through and unrooted and all the location items are correct, but reinstalled Skyraider and they are wrong again. If i turn on the GPS it will find my location correctly, but without that it always comes up with a place that is about 120 miles away.

Maybe the closest A-GPS enabled tower is 120 miles away? I say this because you say if you turn on the hardware GPS it finds your location correctly. Also do you have "Allow Mock Locations" checked under Settings>Applications>Development? If it is un-check it.
The only thing about that is that other ROMS will show my correct location and weather based on my current location.
How odd. Never had that problem with any version of Skyraider.
fixed it. Not sure if I did it, or if i was having issues with VZW. Another fresh install, with wipe of everything seems to have fixed it.

Since flashing my band, kernel and skyraider 2.5.2 my GPS isn't accurate at all anymore, anyone know which of these caused the problem and if theres a fix? This sucks!

That's your problem. It has nothing to do with the rom.
Check vzw location and standalone gps services too.
So I rooted over the weekend and tried several roms but noticed a problem that drives me nuts. After the downgrade my weather works with the clock\weather widget but after rooting the weather cant find my location. It doesnt seem to matter what rom I load the weather widget does not work. I tired beatiful widgets and it only works if I manually enter my location none will automatically detect my location. I did multiple wipes of data and delvic with no help. I even ran the sprint 2.2 ruu and it didn't work. The only way to get it back was run the ruu and then downgrade back to 2.1 and it works then 2.2 ota upgrade and it works but not when I root. I searched and tried all the ideas to no avail. Is anyone else having this problem? By the way the 2 roms I was wanting to use were CM6 and Fresh just want it to automatically find my location for weather.
So am I to assume that nobody has had this issue or has any ideas?

I turned GPS off, enable the use wireless networks in location settings. Then turned GPS back on.............and now mine works.
What setting did you turn the gps off and back on in.
I tried that and I still have the Current location issue.
I just turned on wifi, I got my correct city showing again.
I think it's an issue with 3g that I posted another thread about.
So now my issue with 3g is that I can't get google to sync contacts, calander, email well, google talk times out, market can't pull open pages and now my current location city name.
Hi,
I am having trouble with GPS on my desire since installing gingervillain. On both versions 1.4 and 1.5 GPS just doesn't seem to be working at all. I've tried a factory reset from the recovery menu and have tried re-applying the zip file but with no luck. GPS is enabled but I don't even get an icon on the status bar at the top when it is supposed to be searching for a signal.
Thanks,
Chris
Reach for the skies
Go outside of your house. Point your phone to the sky. Your position should should showing on your GPS.
Or it could be the program itself? Try different gps using apps like maps, facebook places etc etc.
Also do post what radio you're currently using on your phone. It could help people diagnose your problem better.
Tried outside and using gpstest off the market with no luck. I don't usually have any problem with gps inside my house anyway. I don't even get an icon in the status bar at the top it's like it's not working at all. And before anyone says yes it is switched on! My current version is:
32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Any help would be much appreciated!

You must have the worlds strongest GPS in your desire. In normal ones, you need to be outside with the phone pretty much able to see the sky. On top of that, ideally it will need to be a clear sky.
Turn on GPS, open up Google Maps / your Navigation software (while outside). On my phone it only used to show the GPS icon in the task bar when a program was running that could use it.
Alternatively download GPS tools from the market (I forget the exact name).
If your GPS is indeed stuffed, take your phone back (if its under warrantee).
My GPS died on my phone. Completely. And before that it kept rebooting the phone. Had to take it back.

Try gps status on the market
Same here too
Hi
very interested in this thread as my GPS worked fine until I installed Gingervillain 1.4 last week and then updating to 1.5 on Friday
Radio : 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
I downgraded to GV 1.0 and my GPS was working ok again. I heard there was a known GPS problem fixed in GV 1.6 so I upgraded but the problem returned unfortunately. Any ideas?
Update the kernel with Villain set up, it cured my GPS problem.
GVChangelog:
Version 1.6:
* Fixed GPS problem (Thanks to CM Team)
+ kernel update defo works.

Hi,
Could you advise how I go about that? I thought the Kernel was updated as part of the gingervillain setup anyway?
Well I've had more fun with this! I just couldn't get GPS working on anything other than GV 1.0. I completely wiped my SD card and re-formatted the EXT3 partition. I then installed the stock RUU at which point GPS was predictably working. I then went through the flashing process of GV 1.6 and GPS was working this time. It was fine for a week or so but then the GPS stopped working again! I'm thinking it must be something to do with the dalvik cache now, that's the only reason I can think of for the GPS to stop working. I'm running out of patience with GV now so does anyone have suggestions for another stable 2.3 ROM I can move onto?
Thanks again,
Chris
I was using cm6.1.2 and the gps would never work was accurate only to 2500 meters (cell towers) I've tried cm fresh the msl reader fix nothing gets my gps to work. Any ideas?
D/L GPS Status from the market, let it run and d/l the GPS A data, connect to your sats and then run Maps, Navi, et al
How long does it usually take for GPS status to connect to the sats?
let it run for about 10 mins. Never connected to any sats it would find 1 but wouldn't get a fix then it would lose the sat.
If that's the case, then you have a deeper issue than a setting or software, I'd assume.
Mine connects to 10 Sats in about a minute, then everything GPS related runs prefect.
Not knowing a WHOLE lot about GPS, I'll leave this one for the experts.....
Come on experts!
Flash a Sense based rom like Myn Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5 and see how your GPS feature works. You can download it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471
On Fresh Evo 3.5.0.1 now but i'm downloading myn to see if theres a difference.

Okay...I misread your post. You stated you had been running CM 6.1.2 and "CM Fresh". I assumed the latter was yet another variation of CyanogenMod. Sorry.
Flashed Myn samething is happening accurate to 1000-2500 meters. No lock on a sat.
I have looked and i can't seem to find anyone that has this same problem. Nothing i've tried has worked.

I had a GPS related problem a few times in the past but it was always fixed with either a Google Maps update, a reboot or a reflash of the rom.
I've been dealing with a problem on my G2 for a while now, but not sure when it started exactly. Basically, I'm no longer able to determine my location using the cell towers (ie: coarse location).
Several programs I have rely on coarse location, such as the News and Weather app and Beautiful Widgets, not to mention latitude via Google Maps.
I originally thought it was an issue with CyanogenMod 7 starting from RC2 and up, but after having reverted to CM 6.1.1 I found that it was not working there.
If I use GPS or WiFi my location is found pretty quickly, and if I set "only use 2G networks" (or whatever the setting is called) then coarse location works.
My testing method is to reboot the phone and then when it stabilizes to go into the News and Weather app to see if it can find my location. When it does not work I just get a screen that says as much and a link to set my location manually.
I've done this same test on clean roms with no settings or restorations and I get the same results.
Thinking that maybe the radio was to blame I went so far as updating it, while at the same time doing the "real" S-OFF routine through gfree (I permrooted using the original method when it was found, which I've read was some type of fake S-OFF...). This didn't change anything, unfortunately.
While I know this is not related to GPS, I wiped the EFS data as well since I updated the radio (thread 1028405). This didn't help either, though I didn't expect it to.
I've called T-Mobile a few times about this, and had them do a clear location, which didn't seem to change anything.
Lastly, while not the same equipment, I did put my SIM back into my Nexus One (Completely Stock, running latest GB from Google) to see if the problem followed me. Using 3G with that phone, I was able to get my location nearly instantly, so it seems to be something with my phone directly. A G2 demo unit at my local T-Mobile store also was able to find it's location quickly via coarse location.
So, I'm lost as to what to do now. Is it broken? Do I need to replace it? Do I need to flash it back to utter stockness and test all over again?
If there is any additional information that I can provide, please let me know.
Edit: I found a solution using the app Location Cache in the market. Just wipe the location cache using the app and it should fix your problems. Here's the link:

I have the same issue. It started while on CM7 and now if I go back to any other ROM the issue persists. Always wondered what caused it.
I'm having the same problem. Try switching your mobile network to 2G only and see if network location works then. It works flawlessly for me with 2G only but when i switch to 3G/HSPDA+ it fails to find my location and give me the "location temporarily unavailable" error. Wifi and GPS work fine but that's useless unless you have wifi signal available or are outside. I had this problem in the past and flashing a new radio worked before but I can't seem to get it to work this time. I"m running the CM7 Stable but have tested it on the MIUI ROM as well. So frustrating.
Solved
I found a solution!
Because of all this location tracking non-sense, I downloaded an app called Location Cache from the market. I was thinking that it might be helpful in trying to figure out my lack of location services on 3G/4G.
The information it displayed was that all my cell towers had an accuracy of -1. Thinking it couldn't get worse, I wiped the location cache, which also results in the phone rebooting.
To my surprise, after the phone came up I was now getting location services on 3G/4G. Accuracy at my home was 75 vs -1, and my location is working in my work area as well (about 20 miles North of my home).
Here's a market link:
