Running Mikfroyo 4.1 + Riptide's Colornclear + Netarchy's 4.2.1 cfs more nonsbc.
My battery life is usually excellent. But recently I noticed unusually high battery drain from Maps (navigation). It's as if Maps continued to run after stopping navigation and gps, and Maps itself.
Today, I think I got a confirmation.
1) I did 15 minutes of Maps navigation (total cpu time 6 min 19 sec). I then quit Maps and killed everything with System Panel. I saw that Maps had the highest percentage in battery history.
2) I checked the battery usage several hours later. Cell Standby was now the highest.
3) I checked again after several hours. Maps battery usage was again the highest.
At this point I hot-restarted.
Any idea how this could have happened?

My battery life has been great with the current set-up, but in the past 3 hours something screwy happened. I basically went to a function and I turned off BT, Wi-Fi, Mobile Data and GPS. Only thing on was the cellular network and I swear I didn't use it for more than 5 minutes. The battery was at 98% before leaving, now in those 3 hours it came down to 50%. What the crap? The only thing I did was to play Super KO Boxing 2 before leaving for about 5 minutes(It still shows its battery usage as 20% but no option to force close, so I am presuming it isn't running). I did open Maps and HTC Locations(Sense 2.0) for 2 minutes but I closed it because I didn't need it anymore, I also disabled GPS right after that. Now after all of this(game and gps stuff) I had 98% battery. Yet 48% of my battery went into thin air just like that, my battery use is Display: ~40%, SKOB : ~20%, Voice calls: ~15%(About 3 minutes), Cell standby ~2%, Wi-Fi ~4-5% or something like that. These are from memory since I turned it off and kept it for charging.
Any ideas what screwed things up?
Edit: Just noticed you are already familiar with the battery %age lcations.
From what you describe, it sounds as though there were some apps running in the background, slowly om nom nom'ing your battery. I daresay there are a few apps on the Android Market and elsewhere that can tell you what services are running at any given time, so you could get one of those.
If you're after ensuring maximum battery life, however, your best bet is to shut down the Desire, then fire it up again. That way, you can be sure there are no background services to drain charge. Couple that with lowering the screen brightness and display idle timeout (not to mention upgrading to Android 2.2), you should be able to go at least a couple of days on standby.
Sounds like one of your apps is keeping your device awake. I'd suggest getting app monitor like SystemPanel and run the monitoring for a few hours to see which app is consuming the battery.
And get WatchDog. It will notify you if there's any app that use the CPU more than 20%. You can set the percentage yourself btw.
All right, I'll be formatting the phone and flashing the RCMixHD v8 ROM(Was using v7) and then see what happens. i can bet my life that it was either HTC Locations or Google Maps screwing things up.
Hi there,
I'd love to hear about your battery performance. It seems to differ so much between useres that it's really strange. Maybe we can also find out which apps/widgets are too heavy on the battery.
I''m currently using SGBS Rom 2.5 stock.
My average performance is barely a day with moderate use.
I'm using:
- two E-Mail accounts, one with push
- HTC friendstream widget
- HTC google calender widget
- Google News widget
- display brightness set to the halfpoint
- some hours of WLAN a day, always on with mobile internet
- a little surfing, SMS
that's it. With this user behavior I now got about 25 hours out of my batter. Display is 28%, Phone inactivity is 21%, standby is 16%, WLAN is 13%, Mail is 11%, Phone is 7%, calls are 4%, Android OS is 3%.
I deactivated most of the syncs, push is active for my main active E-Mail, the other one is every 15 minutes. Rest is "once per day" or not at all, HTC sync is deactivated.
Is this performance normal? Any ideas? I'd say it's ok but there are people out there claiming they get 48 to 72 hours out of their phone with moderate use. That's quite a difference.
Thank you!
Battery performance differs from user to user and rom to rom. Some roms will run better than other roms and it also depends on what the user has installed on their phone. If you have a fair amount of widgets or just stuff that runs in the background then your battery life will be worse than other people's. CPU frequencies and governors can also come into account.
So, what's the best way to find out what influences your battery life most? I know there are those stats which I posted but they really don't help that much, do they?
The stats you gave fluctuate too much. The main thing is to keep an eye on your apps. See which apps are running in the background, see how much memory they're using. Widgets are another thing to be careful of. I don't use widgets, just the one since I'm on sense, but having lots can impact battery life. You can try and use an auto run app which allows you to stop apps automatically running on startup.
Try not to use live wallpapers and screen brightness.
Punched in..
I charge it every 24 hours on the average - goes from 100% to 30%. A few phone calls, some emails. Not heavy on messages. Some Internet once in a while. Needs an extra recharge on days when GMaps or GPS or Angry Birds come into play.
Have seen some improvement from Stock Froyo HTC ROM to (over the last week or so) AOSP (Redux2 Test Builds).
Ok then, new stats. I got about 10 hours now with an active time of almost 2 hours and I'm a 70%. Had a short phone call, emails, that's it. Rest was just idling over night.
Main battery culprits at the moment:
Mail 30%
WLAN 19%
Standby 14%
Phone inactivity 13%
Display 11%
Calls 8%
Phone 4%
Android OS 3%
My App Stats:
Options 15MB
Maps 6MB
Calender 9MB
CSPeopleSyncsService 3,9MB (?? no idea what that is)
Google Services 8,9MB (no idea either)
Mail (5,4MB)
Sense 4,3 MB
Market 3,7MB
Mail (again) 6,6MB
152 in use, about 200 free.
Widgets:
Calender
Friendstream
Weatherclock
Google News
Any idea?
So first report regarding the new radio. It definitly works fine with SGBS, can't say yet if batter life really is better:
I'm now down to 68% after 15hours. At least 8 hours of those are flight mode over night. WLAN was active the whole time. Display is the main battery culprit, Telephone "inactive" is right next to it. Then WLAN with about 18%, then Handset standby with 16%.
So I obiously don't know what thelephone "inactive" means, that's still pretty high. But I think handset standby is a little lower. So maybe the radio helped with that?
BTW, I used the music player yesterday for about 40 minutes. And had a short GPS test (works fine with new radio) so I guess 70% after 15 hours is ok...
Hey I have noticed lately my battery is taking around 2+ hours to recharge and I get Max 2 hours screen time from a 100 percent charge.
This is with display brightness at minimum around 5-10 minutes call time and ready mostly chrome and Facebook. I have also undervolted turned all sync times to as low as possible and have wifi gps and everything set to off.
My mate with the same phone and ROM/kernel/theme gets 3 hours easy and his brightness and all settings including sync are default.
I have tried the reset battery(no change) and installed better battery saver but everything seems fine?
I am running aokp M4, Franco nightly 97 and black exodus theme.
Any guidance appreciated.
Hello
I was so happy with this device's endurance when I first got it. I could almost stretch it to 2 days with 3 hours on screen time. But after the 4.4.3 update this is no longer the case
Here are my stats before the update:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzywJDML-7JkX1RHelRGY1hhaHM/edit?usp=sharing
As you can see in the first screenshot, average battery drain was 2.8%/h, a modest 4 hours on screen + 5.5 hours awake (listening to music) all this in 1d11h. App usage is at 41%. The second screenshot is even more awesome: 1.8%/h with 4h50m and 7 hours awake in 2d5h !!!! App usage at 34% (slightly lower).
Here's a recent screenshot after the update:

The problem: the system uses too much battery. I can confirm this because it drains like 2-3% doing nothing in an hour, whereas before 1% would drain in like 2 hours (on wifi). App usage way too high because of android kernel and other system services. I barely used the phone for 1h49m (on screen) + 2 hours of listening to music. I know the problem is with the top three in app usage because when I put it in deep sleep (using DS Battery saver) over night, it only drains 3-4% in 7-8 hours.
I tried disabling auto-sync - DIDN'T HELP, battery % was going down as before.
I also have disabled the following apps since i don't use them (the same ones I had before the update, so there should be no difference): Facebook, Fitbit, Google Play Music, Google+, Hangouts, Kid Mode, OneDrive, Skype, Twitter + some more.
I haven't installed anything recently that would impact the battery performance.

After my update i went into system recovery and wiped the system cache.
For me the device seems to have better battery life.
Ok, I did the same. Hope this fixes it.
I have hit a wall and can't figure this out for the life of me. With gsam.. whenever my battery drops a percentage the usage spikes from 3.3% to 30-60%. ??
I've installed numerous roms and even tested this on stock and still the problem remains (with no apps installed and no google apps).
Anybody have any idea of what could be causing this? I am currently on MM and the most current firmware available for my phone.
I am losing sleep over this haha
OK, here's an example to show you what the percentage in GSam means: If your battery went down from 100 to 90% (-> 10% decrease) and you see an usage of 30% for the display in GSam, then the display has used 3% (30% of 10%) of your battery power.
Is the same true when my usage drops by 1% when my hourly percent is idle at 3.x%/hour and then spikes to 25-90%/h? It gets nice and settled at 3-4%/h then when it drops a digit on usage it spikes up to 25-90%/h and crawls back down to 3-4%/h until the next usage % drops? ... I have wakelock detector which shows nothing happening, tried bbs and same happens but I cannot find what causes my %/h to spike like this.
Sorry, this is really frustrating to me.
