is it possible to flash a android rom on the touch pro 2??? would be nice to have the hero rom on my touch pro 2 idk if its even possible
Yeah if you want to brick your phone then go ahead
You should give it to someone who wants it so bad
Dude Android is a different OS with a completely different architecture.
You may be able to port Android functions to Windows Mobile if someone is willing to do it, but it's impossible to use Android on WinMo *yet*.

I think he talks about running it nativelz on the phone...
I don|t know if you can think of a phone like a pc, but basically shouldnt it be possible to run android on the Rhodium with the right drivers and the right SPL ??
im just saying it would be nice i know its a diffrent os and i cant think of it as a pc but it all really is made by htc if u think about it if someone were able to find a way i would gladly run it on my touch...i realized when i hard reseted my phone it was very similar to when flashing the g1 thats y i asked
And don't forget they both run on the same Qualcomm MSM7200A. Making the supposition that they can be ported more plausible.
It's been ported quite nicely for the Vogue so I don't see why it couldn't be ported for the TP2. I think it just needs a dedicated dev team and a big enough user base to make it worthwhile... I'd definitely be interested in seeing that project come to light!

Yes I have a vogue (Winmo device) and have been using Android exclusively on it for the last month or so - it's fantastic! The reason I lurk in the TP2 thread is hoping Android gets ported over - I love the TP2 and its high on my "want" list but can't go back to Winmo - hopefully Android isn't too far off.
I would pay for it...
Seriously, by donation or actually having to pay for it I would have no issue forking out some dough for android on my TP2. As long as i had all the functions like wifi, 3g, bluetooth, etc. My concern is that the phone may run slower with the higher resolution screen but then again the g1 doesnt run at max cpu speeds on a stock build so maybe running it overclocked(max speed) can help. The battery life on my tp2 is wayyyy better than my g1 so if running the core faster is needed i feel the battery could keep up at least on the level of the g1. Also the additional ram may help too. Its strange how even people who dont know much about phones keep asking if i am gonna run android on it. I love my TP2 but its the hardware I love and the os is good but unless the winmo marketplace gets up an running the momentum android has is just too attractive.

I agree. I would love to have Sense UI on my TP2 once I get it. I hate WinMo, the only reason I'm getting the TP2 is because it's such a siiiick device
I'm happy to find out that I am probably not the only person who fell in love with the device after demo'ing one from the T-Mobile store. I have used windows mobile since about 3 devices ago, got a G1, currently running Sense-UI and loving it!! If the Touch Pro 2 could port an android build over with enough Developer support it could easily be done, just as all the rom flashing we never though would be possible for the G1 but ended up doing daily =) Spread the word and keep asking for developer support, don't be afraid to flash a little cash to make it worth their time, and the community will push it in the right direction
NO!!!DO NOT RUN ANDRIOD ON YOUR TOUCH PRO 2. This is totally different with its own os and that will destroy your phone....
Guinea Pig.
I dont mind being the guinea pig with my TP2 if someone can come up with a way of running android on it. I have a g1 I can use in the mean time. I would even consider a temporary phone donation if this gets some serious attention. Of course I would need it back eventually lol.

Uhm, no? Android runs through HARET, which you run from WinMO, then it closes down WinMO so that Android is the only OS running... and it runs off your SD-card. I have android on my old ELF, and I've ****ed up the install so many times, I dunno' what to do anymore, haha. Phone works fine.

Oh, so this is how the Android runs on the phone. I was under the illusion that I have to delete winmo for the running of android.....(I should learn more about that....)
Interesting, I had a G1 and loved Android. I would pay/donate money to the cause. It's worth a shot with the TP2.
I would love to see this too. I have been using a G1 for the past year and love Android. I just ordered a TP2 however, but would really like to get Android on it eventually.
+1 i would love this aswell
I've been thinking about starting the port (have to wait until the 26th to get my TP2 sadly) for Android. Not great with coding but good enough to make tweaks and such to the linux kernel. If there are any others who are interested, maybe we should get together and get the ball rolling? The TP version should work on the TP2 (same hardware underneath still) with the exception of the screen and CPU. Anyway, if anyone here is good at coding for Linux/hardware/IO/etc, please shoot me an email/PM! Don't really have a need for guinea pigs yet since anything we do will need to be tested right away, not whenever the next guinea pig is available
So, now that windows phone 7 is out, is there any chance of us getting a port for the rhodium? I realize every windows phone 7 phone has a snapdragon and the os is pretty resource extensive, but is it possible, mindful of the performance degradation?
As has been said in the dozen other threads on the same subject...no.

You're kidding; yes? It makes no sense to try; however maybe the HD2.
tbh the OS is very complex and idk how itll behave on a storage card if youre talking about a port like XDANDROID, its very possible but itll need some serious time to optimize and be able to run flawless on our TP2s
Logical Answer (No Point)
Even if it were possible for developers to dedicate their time to yet another major long-term project, why would they when the hardware necessary to use WP7 isn't supported on Windows Mobile devices or if they found a work-around it wouldn't work as good.
I think the fact that we have Android is good enough, WP7 is a fresh OS and deserves better. — It's the same mentality as people who use OSX Visual Styles on their Windows 7 machines, it makes no sense or the people who use the iPhone or now WP7 overlay app on their device.
As much as I love the touch pro 2 for it's solid build quality and amazing keyboard; let's be honest, the smudgy resistive screen isn't nice compared with a capacitive AMOLED screen and many other reasons why WP7 wouldn't be as glamorous as on a new device.
*Also, look how long it took the team to get Android to run to a usable/enjoyable point, by that time Froyo was already released and you could have made enough money to go out and buy a brand new Android device. — With WP7 the project will be even longer in my opinion, as there are more components to think about in regards to how the OS operates and functions. (No 'expandable' SD-card, can only sync via Zune software and many other barriers)
*-No disrespect to any of the XDAndroid team you all did an awesome job, just pointing out the fact that delays and issues are to be expected, so WP7 would just be an even greater headache which isn't worth it, might as well start a WP7 project fresh with WP7 hardware then the fun can begin.
Hi all,
I have Palm Treo 700p's and want to update a bit without losing my fair and flex
family plan with Sprint; unfortunately Spring says I can't upgrade to any of the
phones that natively run Android,
I learned about flashing HTC phones running WM and have been trying to learn.
Trying to decide between the Touch or Touch Pro which seem to be the newest
HTC phones I can use.
It appears that the Touch had the best support but the developers have moved
on and the Touch Pro may now be getting more support; do I read this correctly?
Which would you recommend, Touch or Touch Pro, or is there another phone I
should check with Sprint for use?
I welcome your input
Thanks
FS
You're going to be very disappointed if you expect either of these phones to run Android natively well.
This port isn't nearly done. Perhaps the only phone (to my knowledge) that could be considered complete is the HTC Vogue - which is ironically the original Touch you are probably speaking of.
The TouchPro IMHO is a better phone (the keyboard is fantastic - only better is on the TP2 ) but does not run Android very well. Android is just a plaything, for testing and for fun on most WinCE devices.
To sum up - the Vogue & the HD2 have the most complete port of Android, with the Vogue probably being considered "completely finished" (full NAND), however... that hardware is old. HD2 is very promising, they have a few little bugs to squash and then NAND... But no HD2 love for Sprint.
Not sure how good of an Android experience it is on the Vogue. Won't ever be that fantastic on the TP or TP2 tho.... Old hardware there as well my friend
I was in the same boat. have a great (cheap) old data plan that I was not willing to give up.
I went with a touch diamond. My previous phone was a vogue.
I can say that the diamond is a far better phone than the vogue. Better screen, more responsive touchscreen, better video, accelerometer, better camera... but the Vogue probably does better with Android since it can run Android from Nand instead of the storage (SD) card.
Android is fun on the Diamond, but its pretty crippled. No camera. No speakerphone for things like GPS. Poor battery life. Too slow for any flash apps to run fluidly... Basically android on the Diamond feels more like an emulation- because that is all it is.
That said, its fun to be able to play around with android, and WinMo is not so bad for a dead OS. There are some decent ROMs and plenty of freeware still floating around. And the Diamond makes for a nice phone on terms of small size, GPS, good speakerphone, WIFI and even WIFI sharing with the right ROM.

Just to set the record straight, this project is running natively on the hardware - it's not a virtual machine, and it is certainly not being emulated in any way shape or form...
I could see how you would think that, because of all the broken/not working stuff... Well we just have to reverse engineer WinMo libs, dlls, etc and then write our own drivers basically for the different pieces of hardware.
Hence the reason new kernels come out so frequently - there's a lot of work that needs to be done on that kernel to get everything working the way it should. Devs are making some good progress lately, hopefully DIAM/RAPH will have NAND soon. I heard Neopeek was working on NAND back in August on his DIAM... haven't heard much about it since unfortunately. However, RHOD's have a partial NAND, and with the head of steam we've got going now, I'm pretty confident soon we will be up to the level of the Vogue - if not beyond it. However, the processor/RAM specs are pretty paltry compared to most native Android devices.
Sorry for the damned long post. One last question, your speakerphone doesn't work in GPS? Hrm. It should. Have you tried the newest kernels...? The autobuild service is down, but F22's been kindly building them for us...
why not just get a NEWER phone other then one that was released 2-4 years ago?
Cause after having invested SO MUCH time into running android on the phone, it's impossible to give up.. And having full control over hardware compensates for the hardware being ancient

Does anybody know, about porting this wp7 build, for our devices, if it possible, or not, waiting for answers, thank's.It will be the better than porting Android(which is so hard to do)
Porting wp7 is way harder, you don't have source, you are out of the minimal requirements and you don't even have enough nand..
Android is much more doable..
hi.
we have new htc diamond and I want to ask if is available Android for this phone!
Thank you!
don't dream about that
It's possible but it must be not that easy than Android and it must be really so hard and it takes more a long times to development. I'm sure someday there'll be someone will do that in XDA-Dev.......

I don't think it'll ever come to the htc touch diamond, cause it's like putting android on a Samsung E900 or something, no-one iswaiting on that
Android might eventually be available for NAND on Diamond but my guess is WP7 will never be ported.. Android is just the better OS out of them all
Android had a slow start with coming to the world of mobile operating systems and the G1 was a superb example of what can be achieved. Since then Android has rocketed to the top of the charts and is now running on almost all new devices. Being open source there are a variety of different builds and mods, Including a vast growing number of apps coming to the market
In my opinion Apple will have to do something spectacular with its OS to become the #1 OS again
Come on, think about it, The Diamond struggles to run WM6.5, hell it struggles to run 6.1 sometimes
You really think it will run WP7 ? lol Not a chance
Exactly. And even if it does run it, the battery life is just not enough..
I have TWO 1340mAh batteries and I sometime drain them both in one day!
The 900mAh stock is not enough for half a day for me lol
Although running android 2.3 through haret, I get over a day with the 1340 battery... and its very smooth so having it on NAND it would last a lot longer and I imagine would be somewhat more smooth than what it is now
MOBILE SEVEN Reply
Why would you want to downgrade? There is no "Windows Mobile 7" port for Diamond because nobody wants useless crap on their smartphone.

Hey everyone... Just wanted to thank you all for your knowledge, contributions, etc, on this phone/forum. I've decided to be rid of my Ion. You can still catch me in the LG L9 forums, and in the Nexus 7 forums. Hope to see some of you there. It's been fun!
Y u r selling ur ion??? Sony will release jb in 1 or 2 weeks...any way n'joy ur new phone...thanx for making petition thread...if att bootloader could be unlocked there would be a different community support to ion
Sent from my LT28i using xda app-developers app
Cheers mate!
Good luck Mate. I agree. May be you can wait 1-2 weeks more just to see how the JB update goes.
@tribalartgod
Since you have opened the thread, can you rename it like this-
"FAREWELL- Leaving XS/ACRO S/iON - Say bye here".
Then all the other users those who are planning to leave any of the device too, can post their message here.
It would be great if you can do.
It's not that I don't like this device, in fact, I love it. I switched back to T-Mobile. Truely unlimited data, superb customer service, etc etc. I'll be back to an Xperia device in the near future. Just had to do what I had to do at this current moment. You all enjoy!
got the nokia n9 two weeks ago, and i believe i made the right choice: super reliable, super innovative and convenient user experience, many interesting apps developed by nokia, awesome integration between apps, much better multitasking experience than any phone currently available, faster than any dual core (maybe quad core as well) android, and even easier to develop than most android devices. the amount of apps is definitely the weakness of n9 but it basically gets the job done quite well. back to xperia ion, it is definitely the most annoying phone i have ever owned in my life. if sony mobile is not going to improve its shi*ty software builds, then goodbye forever. will come back and take a look after jelly bean is available for the ion though. one more thing, in my opinion, if google isn't changing the whole coding language of android, it won't change its lagdroid nature. Java really shouldn't be used to develop operating systems. project butter brought triple buffering which, yes it makes android much smoother but, drains much more battery while being already battery hungry.
OP enjoy your new/other Device...
