I am having a problem where all vibration/haptic feedback will just randomly stop working completely. Then a few hours (and sometimes days) later it will randomly start working again. It will keep working again for a few hours or maybe days, and then randomly stop again. There seems to be no pattern to it.
I have no idea what is causing this. Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone have any idea how to fix it?
This is extremely frustrating as I am someone who never uses the ringer; I just always have my phone on vibrate.
I'm running the latest stable release of CM 7.1 for the Evo 4G, but I had this happen before on stock Sense as well.

I am having this same issue as well. It must be software related because the vibrate function works just fine when the phone rings. I am running CM 7.1 stable on an Evo 4G. I noticed the issue as well on CM 7.0.3.1 or whatever the latest stable build was on CM.
Does the phone ever always (or never) vibrate under a certain circumstance? i.e. incoming text, email, incoming/outgoing call, typing, etc.? Also, do you have any toggle widgets that could affect vibrate/ringer status?
I ask this because, and this may sound silly, it may be that you are modifying settings unknowingly. I've had that happen where I have my hands in my pockets and next thing I know I've accidentally got my Facebook up and running and typed half a book in the status field.
Again, I know that sounds silly but I ask because it's happened to me before.

That's fine, its an important clarification to make. But no, I am absolutely sure I have not changed any of the options unknowingly. As I said in the OP, ALL vibration/haptic feedback will cease to function entirely. I've often had it happen that in the middle of typing something, the haptic feedback for the keyboard will just go away. Immediately after this if I check the soft key buttons or test the vibration for notifications, none of these will produce any sort of vibration response either. Then randomly a few minutes, hours, or days later, all haptic feedback will just return. Its been an extremely strange and frustrating issue.

For me, when the vibration stops working, it stops working for everything, even when the phone rings. But that's what I can't figure out: if it is a software or hardware related issue. I was having this problem on stock Sense, and I figured if it was software related, perhaps flashing a new ROM (in my case, CM7), would fix it. However it hasn't, so I'm beginning to think if it is indeed a software issue, it must be a bug somewhere very deep within the code, otherwise it has to be a hardware issue. But if its a hardware issue, I can't figure out why it would randomly stop/start working like it does, and the thing is, most (75%) of the time, it is working. Its just the other 25% that annoys the hell out of me. That's why I thought I'd ask and see if anyone else had experienced it or found any solutions.
Its a CM7 thing I've noticed it on Xplod, Decks, and CM7 I don't really mind it cuz my ringers are loud as hell but yeah its pretty weird :shrugs:
Usually AOSP ROMs for some reason have that problem cuz on sense ROMs it never happens

I've never had that problem on CM and I've been using many different versions of it for a long time. I don't know if I am lucky or what but people complain about a lot of issues that are claimed to be CM issues....yet I've never had a single one of them.

Well I kinda had the same problem that he's run into on CM but I figured it out but I figured since he's had the problem on a sense ROM also then maybe its not the ROM but I jus went into everything that had the option to vibrate and turned them all on cuz I've flashed a couple ROMs and the vibration would be off I try not complain about anything about any ROM its a person hard work they've done for free I try to figure things out on my own as much as possible before I create a thread not bad talkin the OP but jus sayin you know?
I don't think that it's rom related. I've been having issues with my haptic feedback since I got the phone, even before rooting it. I think it's just a crappy vibrator. (If there's a better name than "vibrator", please someone tell me.)
I had vibration problems on my first Evo as well, it was never rooted. My second Evo was a HW004 and the haptic feedback was perfect - it was softer instead of the shock-like haptic feedback I've experienced with my 003s. My current and third Evo is also a 003, so I assumed it had something to do with the motor used in 003s.
I've just turned haptic feedback off. I thought I'd miss it, but I've gotten used to it. I still use have my phone set to vibrate for notifications and calls and I've seen fewer issues.
If you think you can go without, I'd suggest turning haptic feedback off. Otherwise, unroot and take it into Sprint. You may have more luck calling, because if you can't replicate the issue in front of them then they can't do much.

Yeah, its definitely not ROM related...I don't know if people aren't reading the posts, but I've said several times that this occasionally happened on stock Sense, both before and after rooting.
Dang. I didn't want to have to bring it in to get it fixed, but I guess that's what I'm gonna have to do if its a hardware problem...I was really hoping it was software related or if someone would know of a way to fix it so that I could avoid dealing with warranty services...I got suckered into the Best Buy warranty, and it turns out that even though they either give you a new or refurbished model, they make you turn yours in and wait 5-7 days for the replacement to come in instead of ordering the replacement and then doing a trade with you when it comes in. I already experienced it once before when my USB port broke... :/
Not being able to replicate the issue is my main concern since sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Trying to get it to stop working at a time when I can actually run out to the store is gonna be a pain...And I really don't want to waste a trip to the Best Buy store only to have it start working again with me trying to tell the GeekSquad Agent, "I promise, I promise! It was broken just 5 minutes ago!!" I can't imagine how many of those they have to deal with....
Hey guys, my galaxy nexus has started acting up. If I make a call to someone I can hear the person talk, but they can not hear me. Now the person I call when they try talking, they just hear there own voice back when they talk. If they said hi, they would hear themselves say hi back. Now the strange part, if I turn my phone to speakerphone everything works fine?!? Can anyone make anything out on what's going on with this? Suggestions? Thank you

I'd check with the dev of that ROM (or a forum support thread for it) if this problem has been encountered before. If not, I'd try flashing stock factory images for your device to see if the problem persists. If it does, it's likely to be a HW issue.
I've seen several threads about the problem of the call issues, When first the call echo now the bad quality sound on CM and MIUI..
Devs I love your roms. they are amazing and I know that you all probably had tried to solve the call issue once it for all. Even though you make magic to the call issues, it still not gone completely.
There might be other users like me that love roms. special if we want to run JB or MIUI or any other than Stock TW. but the call issues are taking us from using these amazing roms..
I personal am so jealous because I love to use miui on my phone or JB but everytime I do my wife calls me and boom I have to flash back to stock TW because of these issues. I think you all know that people you are talking to is the ones who cant hear you or have an echo...
Now some say the that problem is hardware some say its drivers I dont know what it is and I'm sure you ''DEVS'' know what it is causing it.
My question here is wether we are gonna get rid of this issue once it for all or are we close to it or there is nothing to do.
I know Eugene have done wonderful on getting it fix but although in my end the issue still comes...
P.S some say that problem is on one of the mics ''top one to be exactly'' is there a way to just shut it off,
Then again Im not trying to flame anybody this is something that just gets on my nerves. Now if you have some sarcasm to say keep it to your self Xda for me is like a family. and we all try to help each other

That's what I was thinking
just like any variant in the Galaxy S Line. There is no sure fire fix, because these roms are built off the SGSII and ported (officially/unofficially) to our's and other variants. the T-Mobile SGS 1 had the same microphone issues. These are driver related and won't be properly fixed without Device source information related the OS in question.
the easiest "temp" fix is to mute/unmute after recieving a phone call. This will generally fix the issue for the duration of that phone call.
for future reference though if your gonna go samsung, and plan on being a rom flasher, I would suggest you invest in an International Device as they recieve updates quicker, and tend to have there sources available (which means smoother more stable roms)
even the SGSIII is going to run into issues due to the chipset variation from the world version (dual core vs quad core)
on that note though, now that 4.0.4 has been officially released for the Hercules, we should see Small issues like this addressed in the aosp 4.0.4 for our device.
I see you showed interest in Jellybean, i'll be frank on this. Unless we get JB officially from samsung for our SGSII there will never be a "perfect" fix to the microphone issue. (maybe a possibility if the skyrocket were to get JB or even the Sprint Variant) but the 4'3 inch SGSII is seperate hardware therefore drivers aren't compatible.
If you are referring to ICS, the call quality issues were resolved long ago.
If you are using JB AOKP / CM, make sure you have enabled noise suppression within your call settings. Go to your dialer, hit the menu button and scroll down to noise suppression.
With that being said, I have no problems with call quality using the latest AOKP JB ROMs though YRMV.

ICS hasnt been fixed all the way.. The issue are still on Miui and CM9 although it is better but not gone completely.
I even been having problems where I have to speak louder so the other person can hear me on stock rom, also I noticed that every now and then this issue comes on ICS Miui. sometimes I have to hung up and call back.
Hello and thank you in advance to all. I have a t989,
I run AOKP Galaxysbean V_12
KKO Kernel Governor is Smartass V2 and I/O is deadline
UVLI4 Radio
Problem: I know for a fact this is not a hardware problem, because I have went through 3 phone replacements because of stupidity and learning how to root phone, flash roms, yada, yada, etc. And with each of these phones this persistent problem occurs where all of the sudden at any given time, I will go to make a call and nothing. I can't hear the ring of another person's number, my voicemail, etc. The person does get the call, and when they answer, I still cannot hear them, and they cannot hear me.
Resolution: Ways I have fixed this before are with the first and second phone I flashed over a new radio, (previously UVLE1, UVLH1, 4G Blaze) and it fixed the calling upon reboot. Also I had flashed custom roms, or restored previous Nandroid backups and it worked again. (Little annoying doing this every 3 or 4 days. Though today, this happened with my newest phone, and flashing a radio did not work nor did restoring a Nandroid. This time I had to flash a new custom rom, then it worked. Then I flashed back over the Nandroid and it still works as of now.
Question: Could this be because of the kernel? Or the rom?

same here
Me and my wife have the same issues. We both have GS2s but hers is stock unrooted and mine is running CM10.1. Been dealing with Tmobile for months without success, swapping out cut down on how often its happening but did not fix it. Tmobile is stumped, very annoyed by this issue.
Not sure what's causing the problem but it seems jellybean 4.2 has fixed this issue. Try flashing AOKP 4.2 and make sure noise suppression is enabled and call this number 9143388802. The third option is an echo test and fourth option let's you record a playback to listen to how you sound. If you sound normal and people are still complaining then its their phone.

I've come to the conclusion that its a rom problem because for me it happens with only certain roms. Ive tried all the rom kernel combinations and different radios but the only fix I've found is to retire that particular rom, no matter how good it is. Smoothness aint gonna get the cops or the fireman to your house. The only roms that have worked for me as far as call quality are, for some reason all of TheLastSidekick's Kangs, Darkside evolution 3, Sky Jellybean, Rushing's Bulletproof, and both of the 10.1 variants we have. The strange thing is I can't recall any call quality issue's when flashing roms from the Skyrocket thread. For instance I get the worst call quality ever using Jedi Jelly, but I'm crystal clear using Embryo from the Skyrockets thread, so much so I wont even try our version of the same rom.
I blame T-Mobile network. This would happen to me all the way back to my old flip phones. Every other call or so would do this. I've always put up with it cuz I like T-Mobile customer service.

I found out with my problem. It was when I tried to make a call to soon. It would do this. As long as I have let the phone load for a minute or two after boot, I haven't had any more problems. My problem may be different from yours tho. Hope this helps.

Just leave me some thanks. Under your phone settings, there should be a noise surrpression box. Make sure it is check marked. Every time I do that people have said I sound better. What do you want to do? Change it back to custom rom? P.S. ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS!.. Google will solve many questions too. My T-mobile LG G3 has been working like a champ for many months. Now, call quality for person to whom I am speaking is very poor. It sounds like there is very faint speaking that drops in and out. This happens both on bluetooth and off, but is worse on bluetooth. There is no physical block to built-in or headset microphone. I know this because can record voice memo and do 'OK Google' dictation with ease. VOIP calls (Google hangout) are ok given my WiFi bandwidth.
T-mobile tier2 support tried to sell me on notion that lollipop might fix me (based on www_androidauthority_dot_com/lg-g3-problems-517832 ) but I'm skeptical and jumped at the offer of a handset replacement. Any other ideas out there?

Wow, my G3 just started doing this too. I've had it for 6 months and it's just been the past week that I've been having issues. It's hit or miss, but about 90% of the time I get complaints that the other person can't hear me or that I sound very faint. It's been driving me crazy. I've figured out that I can toggle speaker mode and it fixes it. Can you try that out see if it's the same for you?
I noticed this about a week ago, interesting. Wonder if it's something on tmobile's network.
This just happened to me as well on Tuesday, March 10th. I live in Los Angeles. A reboot seems to fix it for one call. This is kind of a big problem.

I'm now running in safe mode and a couple test calls to my Google Hangout sound fine. Don't think it's a hardware issue.
I've started to experience this too. It's really annoying. I hope it gets fixed soon. Though, I am glad to know it's not just me. I really didn't want to dig around in my apps to find the offender.

Thanks! I downgraded and installed Google App 4.1.29 here http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-search/google-app-4-1-29-1706998-arm-android-apk-download/. Also disabled auto-update for Google Apps so it doesn't update to 4.2.16.87075793. I'll test it out and see what happens.
I also have had the same problem lately, just twice. A reboot fixed it
This is affecting me as well. I'm also in Los Angeles and the phone was fine until some time last week. I'm trying to the google apps downgrade now...
I also am having the same issue in my D851. My phone worked fine for 2 weeks and now 75% of the time the caller on the other end says they cant hear me and I sound like I am a mile away. This does not happen when I used VOIP such as hangouts. I am thinking about flashing a AOSP ROM until the t-mobile 5.0 build comes out.

In the play store for the Google search app click the uninstall button. That will return the app to it's factory version. Then just install the version that's linked earlier in this thread. Make sure you have automatic updates turned off for the app or it will keep updating.

I had this same problem. Maybe I should have came here first. I got a replacement in the mail a couple of days ago. New one seems to be working fine. Hopefully the problem doesnt start happening again.

I was gonna do a factory reset and if that didn't work i was gonna get a replacement . Hopefully this fixed the problem. The only issue I seem to be having is. when I'm on speaker phone or have it to my ear. and when i go to adjust the volume it doesn't change it. like i see the meter go up and down but the volume stays the same. its weird
I can confirm that after enabling voice activation for google now from any screen was the culprit of Mt audio issues. I was told I sounded far away or like a robot far away. Reset my device numerous times and reinstalled all apps and made calls. Once I enabled OK google from google now the issue came back. Disabled it and BOOM it worked fine. Haven't had an issue since.
