[Q] HTC Evo-Flash Failed. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I'm new to the forum but I have a unique problem as far as I can tell. I can only flash Roms that Rom manager downloads through its list directly. Explanation: if I boot into recovery and try to flash a zip it fails. Also if I point Rom manager at a zip it did not down load it fails. I have an HTC Evo fully rooted and running Rom manager premium. Any help or explanations would be great.

Try reflashing your recovery then flash a ROM manually
Evo 4G CM7

Try signing the zip file on CM. clockwork mod does that, if the file is not sign correctly it will say install fail.

[Q] Rooting program..

So, I have a rooted Desire, now Im trying to load onto it a custom ROM, for that I need the program which would normally be found on unlockr(dot)com. However I can not download it for some reason! can someone please see if they have it when they were rooting? please!
To install a custom rom you need to have a recovery mode installed. The easiest way is to install rom manager. Then install clockwork mod that comes with rom manager. Upon opening rom manager the first thing at the very top of the app is install clockworkmod. Which then allows for boot into recovery for custom rom installation.

yeah, I've done the clockworkmod, that way I installed my stock HTC ROM, but do I install a custom ROM by renaming the file into update.zip and then doing the same thing?!
thanks you your time!
With clockwork mod you can flash any zip file. No need to rename it. I take it you rooted using paul's old method. Than you can just use fake flash to load the recovery. This is a certain zip file named update.zip, which you flash from the stock rooted recovery. Then clockwork mod is loaded.
IT's not too hard
1. Download rom from xda
2. copy file onto your sd card
3. reboot into recovery
Important part!!
DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!
i. select backup/restore
ii. select backup and let it rip
iii. return to menu
4. select flash .zip
5. find the rom & select it

Cant find update.zip

When I try and install a new rom from rommanager its says error cant find cache/update.zip? Im using the leedroid rom but was trying to install a new one from rom manager but keep getting this error. Can anyone explain what im doing wrong im confused
Stick the attached file on to your sdcard.
you can also do it from within rom manager by clicking flash clockwork mod.
why do you want to use rom manager to flash a rom?
you can just put the rom zip on to your sdcard, boot in to recovery
and flash from there.
Don't use ROM Manager - it's ****

[Q] Flasing a MOD to a ROM

Hi all,
I've flashed the ARHD 5.1.1 ROM today and all is working fine. I am now looking at flashing the CRT and Sense 3 lock-screen MODs onto my phone.
Am I correct in thinking I use the same procedure as I did for flashing the ARHD ROM using ROM Manager... where I would boot into recovery and select the *.zip from my SD card?
I've had a search around an I have been unable to find a definite answer.
Thanks in advance.
Quote from Mike's thread;
All extras listed here with meta-inf folder inside the .zip archive needs to be installed via Clockworkmod recovery!
So yes. Don't try flashing it at the same time as the ROM, always reboot first and then go back into recovery and flash addon.
Also, it's best to flash one at a time, I got a boot-loop once when I tried to flash a few of them at the same time
Happy flashing!

[Q] Rom Manger not flashing new recovery

I'm running CM 7.0.2.1 running Tiamat newest kernel. The issue I am having is that I am trying to flash a different recovery with Rom Manager, rom manage downloads the recovery and says that it is flashed, only when I reboot into recovery I find that my Old recovery is still in place. I've tried flashing every recovery available with the same outcome. Is there something I am missing or is this a known bug?
thanks
If you're trying to flash an older version of clockwork, the ones listed don't work for the evo. if you wanted amon_ra, flash the file I uploaded in the bootloader.

[Q] ROM Manager boots into CWM 3

Hello guys,
I rooted my WF with AlpharevX, I flashed then CM7 nightly build and yesterday CM7.1 RC1. Afterwards I realised that my GPS doesn't work. I wanted to reflash my radio, I have CMW 3xx, so it is not possible to flash it from recovery. I wanted to boot to recovery directly from ROM Manager, where I have 2.5.0.7, but when it reboots I receive only boot image, when I hit the power button I land in Recovery menu but it says, that it is 3xx version. I tried to reflash radio from there but of course I receive error message.
Have you any ideas, why it is like that?
I think, I could try to convert radio with amend2edify and then try to flash it from recovery, have someone tried this?
Reinstall CWM 2.x from ROM Manager. Someone tried to convert the radio file using Amend2Edify, and it didn't work.
Will help in booting to 2.x recovery.
Have u flashed 2.5.0.7 recovery from rom manager. If yes, it will be present in sdcard /clockworkmod/ downloads folder.
First boot into 3.x recovery then install zip from sdcard. Then choose zip from sdcard and selected the path and file. Then it gives 2.x recovery on the fly. And remember radio flashing is sensitive.

thx for answers
2.5.0.7 is present in sd/clockworkmod/downloads, so I try to flash it from recovery and then reflash radio. I know it is sensitive, but it seems that I don't have any other choice. I will reflash the same version that I have, so it shouldn't be harmful. then I will go back to newer CWM Version
done, GPS works
