Hi. Welcome to XDA When I first signed up to xda I had no idea what I was looking for or what I even wanted to do to my phone. Being familiar to the whole forum edict rather than asking questions that have already been answered a million times over I noticed the handy dandy search function.
An example: Regarding you above question I searched, "rhodium custom sms tones for contacts" and was quickly presented with:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407933
I have no personal experience with this program but I imagine that you are not the first person to request such a thing so there are probably plenty of options out there Youtube is also a good reference source since you can search your phone and see custom things people have done to it. Check out the rom section for an all over makeover for you phone.
Xda's database is intimidating to say the least but sorting through what you need is pretty simplistic Good luck pimping you phone
I can't tell u how many times I've ask this question without anyone answering ....so maybe I'm the only one (prolly I'm missing something obvious)
But I have had no success finding anything useful (or even remotely close to wut I'm trying to find) while using the 'Search' option, in the 'XDA' app.
Does anyone know wuts up? ...will it ever be improved ...either I'm missing something or it needs removed, cuz as is, its completely useless!
*please, someone reply ...even just to say u don't have a clue but have also noticed it ...or that I'm stupid n the answer is right in my face ...just reply. Thnx.
Im tempted to say I agree, but I don't search enough.
One major thing I've noticed is that it's useless to the degree that it searches the whole damn site. It'd be nice if we could search forum specific or even thread specific.

This should already be possible in the app.

How do you do that? The only way I can search is by going back to the main screen, selecting more and then search. I do use the free app though.
Cool, nice to see I'm not the only one ...figures after I stop checking the thread, people start replying
But yeah, I was startin to think my app was defective. I should (prolly check the Actual 'tapatalk' since I finally bought it ...but I suspect its the same.
Thnx, for the responses
Hi,
I think there is a very useful app needed in all smartphone...and specially in the fantastic galaxy s2: the offline voicecommands.
People, like me, that have not the possibility to get always connected to the net, need the offline voicecommands like the mororola smartphones. We just need a porting of that app as the vivaldi 4season team did, but working for all the roms and in particular that app have to work...
Who is the dev that can do this for the "disconnected" community? He will help the people that need to call someone whilst is driving a car... No accidents trying to do a call whilst driving car, no money spent in a special contract to be always connected.
We need a hero!

Dont we have that already with the Built in Samsung Voice actions powered by Vlingo which also has a drive/car mode
Vlimgo requires Internet and to be honest is not greatest when dialing contacts especially if they are not typical English names.
Just do what I do as soon as I install rom, delete vlingo and put original android voicedialer.apk in system (note: not voice search) app from nexus s gingerbread or cyanogen rom. Works offline and much better for contacts recognition. Responds fine to bluetooth dial as well.

Could you post that apk please?
Here you go!
Remember put this in system/app folder with root explorer (do not install as regular apk) and remember to delete vlingo voice to go apk from there cause it will clash on bluetooth dial.
Istituto tris app multilanguage?
Is this only for dialing or sms too?

It's name is voice dialer! Ask me again if this is for dictating sms!
Or are you asking if you can start text message with this?
There's voice actions for that or vlingo or whatever but they all need to be connected to the net.
With this you can basically start any app installed on the phone with command open * (open MESSAGING or open OPERA MOBILE) or dial contacts on the PHONE or command redial.
You can not say 'send text to "contact name"'. If you want deeper than that then use online ones I mentioned.
Iono if it's multilanguage? I why don't you try it then tell us? What I do know is that I have plenty non English contacts and it dials them correctly even though it repeats them weird with English phonetics. It is able to learn as well so if it's confused between 2 contacts, manually selecting correct one, will not prompt again with same pronunciation. I have had few names that I had to gradually train like that going from English phonetics to native tongue pronunciation and now it's perfect.
I save data with titanium so don't have to train it again between flashing.

can someone please explain the point of installing XDA and XDA premium when I already can access XDA forum using tapatalk?
Seems to me that XDA just wanna some buck?
it's just like asking why superman wears his underwear on the outside.
user preference.
period.
XDA has real expenses like server maintainance,
with 4,000,000 registered users and 30,000+ people online,
they need some financial aid to help them provide you people the service,
XDA never forced you to pay a dime but have given you a tremendous amount of service,
i'd like to see you manage a server with 4,000,000 users and let's see how well you go

that's fine, I understand, I have no issue with XDA asking for donation or anything. But how is this an reason for an independent forum app? There are thousands of forums, many with millions of members and I am a member of many forums. I don't see the logic for me to download independent app for each of these forum if they each had one.

USER-PREFERENCE,
i never use tapatalk,
i use the xda app FYI,
it's XDA's project,
and from my point of view,
i find it pretty useful since i only have XDA as my active forum so why bother getting a 3rd-party app when you can download a version directly from XDA.

it's kinda rude, saying that XDA is doing it for bucks,
since they did this to provide users an independent forum app,
you justified the means without proper knowledge,
And to put it, Tapatalk is a paid app. And XDA offers free as well as premium app. So users who don't have Tapatalk has the option to get the free XDA app, if they have only registered on XDA for browsing the forums. Not many users are members of different forums.
i got both...but to be honest i only use XDA app now as this is the only forum i check. and if by me having the premium version helps support for the maintenance of the site, it is the least i can do for what i have learned from XDA over the last two years and the goodies that i have done to my phone to make it better
The reason? I find 1.50 € for learning english a very, very, fair price (i have both premium apps)

Reread your thread title and OP. Nowhere does it state that it's directed to people who use multiple forums, and you probably would have received different replies completely if you had made that clear. All you did was make the XDA app seem useless, which is wrong, because for people who only use XDA there's no point paying for tapatalk.

Personally, I don't see any difference between the two. They are identical to me, except that Tap can have multiple forums in it, obviously.
But I am having a problem with both and can't use any of the four forum apps I have purchased:
XDA Premium (phone)
XDA HD (tablet)
TapaTalk HD
TapaTalk 2
Don't get me wrong, I am more than happy to support the developers! I'm not bragging, but I have purchased about 300 apps in the last year and most of them worked fine without paying for them. I just wanted to make clear that this is not about complaining because of spending the money. I just sincerely want to be able to use them and I can't use any of the four.
What I mean by that, is that after scouring XDA and Google, I cannot find any help on how to view messages that I have received email notifications for, like when someone responds directly to one of your posts, or even when they post in a thread/forum you are Subscribed to.
I know that I can go into the XDA/TapaTalk (2) apps and go to:
LATEST >> PARTICIPATED
... But that doesn't take me to the posts that I have been notified about, like if I tap the link in the email and it takes me right to the message, ya know?
So I end up tapping the link and trying to view the messages in the browser on my phone, but since XDA does not have a mobile version of their web site, I end up double-tapping it to try to blow it up and then moving it all around the screen, back and forth, to try to read the message.
And of course, posting that way is Hell! It is very difficult to get it to go back up in the message and you can't even see a whole sentence, because it's blown up and the regular display is microscopic!
Does anyonne know how it is done? I love the concept of these apps, but I cannot believe that they would have left that sort of feature out, given that people would constantly be responding to posts they are notified about, right?
So I figure that I must be missing something. But I have looked at these apps for almost a year now (and recently purchased the new TapaTalk 2, hoping it had stuff the original doesn't) and I just can't find how to do this.
Does anyone know how this is done? Please?
Again, going to LATEST >> PARTICIPATED does not list/take me to the messages I am being notified about. The threads are in the list somewhere, I'm sure, but I'm hoping to do it like I do when I tap on the link in an email message. It would be really cool if you tapped on one and it opened Tap right to that specific message that you're being notified about!
I may have missed this answer somewhere in these forums, but I swear, I did scour them as best I could and I just cannot find this specific help! Nor did I find any help from the Tap folks, except how a forum owner could add their forum and a Google search produced the same result.
I apologize for the long message. I just wanted to make sure that I was absolutely clear, so that folks did not just guide me to "LATEST >> PARTICIPATED".
Thanks!!!

Big post.
So basically what you want is when you click on a link on any other app (mail for eg. since its giving you notifications). You need to clear all the defaults you have set around with your browsers. (do it from settings»applications»manage»here).
After that whenever you click on a link, it will show up a popup to chose the app to procede for the link. If the link is from xda use tapatalk (it'll take you to the post right away), if from other site, use your preffered browser. Again do not set anything as default as tapatalk cannot open other sites and you will need to clear the defaults again.
A Hero Can Be Anyone.
Dear Bruce Wayne,
Okay, I did what you said and it did not take me to the exact message. But it did take me to the same page, which makes it just a matter of scrolling down a few swipes up worth to scroll down to the message, which is certainly plenty good enough!
Plus, now I understand why this app's default posts per page is set to 10.
Thanks a bunch for your help, Bruce! I mean that! I can now, finally, use TapaTalk after a year of owning it! And that's because you took a few minutes out of your time to answer my question simply and plainly, without first assuming a certain level of knowledge on my part and I really appreciate that!
And I'm sincerely not trying to patronize you. As I said, I do mean that. It can be very difficult to get help, when so many people see a question as being "stupid" and you can't find anything on the web, ya know?
There was one thing I noticed though in the TapaTalk 2 app, which was that there was no option to "Quote" when responding (I wanted to quote a couple of sentences of you response when I replied).
Is there a trick to making it show that option that you know of?
If there isn't one, how would you know if it's responding to the message you're looking at on the screen?
Sorry to bother you again, Bruce! Last time, I promise!

Wouldn’t it be a good idea for someone to compile a list of the available ROM’s with their differing attributes for our N7105.
.
For instance I have installed eight different custom Rom’s on my N7105 in vain, looking for a ROM that has multi window, and a proper document spell checker built in, that’s one that underscores all misspelt words in a sentence in red, and with suggested corrections. It would save a lot of frustration if we could have a ROM comparison chart . . . Please?
.
.
No, please don't do this. Thanks.

Why do you have to compare hard work done by devs publicly? You can use some roms and figure out which one is your favorite.

OK yes point taken, and I will take no part in making a list. But I only wanted a list of the attributes that came with each ROM I did not want comments of any sort in this list, after all mostly each developer posts a compiled list of what is in their Rom in the first place and some items will be more important than others to an individual.
.
Theres just no point. Even with a list of features you wont know what you will like until you try it, then we go into opinions. Best thing to do is just browse over the roms, find a few roms with features you like, then give them a test. Comparison charts just start more trouble then its worth, Dont take it the wrong way Good luck in finding your rom!
Can’t find ROM with spell checking
Yes I accept what you and others say here, but having read what information is available on sixteen ROMs so far, and also taken the time to install and then remove eight of them in search of a whole page Spell Checker, it is very frustrating that none mention if this is included or not, and I need this because my spelling is atrocious.

Why cant you download one of the play store and use that? Is that so hard? Once you find the app you like you can add it to every Rom you use. Then you wouldn't be so frustrated.

Wish I could, there just is no such App available on Play Store; one that underscores all misspelt words in red that you’ve typed in, and with suggested corrections. If I am wrong please tell me as you say this would be the answer to my frustration.

https://play.google.com/store/search?q=spell+check&c=apps
Otherwise use a keyboard with a good dictionary, swype or swiftkey
if that doesnt work try a program like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.usr.dict.mgr&hl=en to edit the dictionary,

Thanks for the suggestion but this would be very inferior to what I have been used to, see screen shot below.

As scarecrow2012 mentioned, a simple choice of keyboard app will definitely help. For my case, Swype is doing me every bit of justice for spelling.

Swype; Swype Keboard no longer comes up on Play Store for me, strange because I do think I remember looking at that once, but if I remember right it didn’t check a whole sentence, after I had finished writing instead I had to make corrections at the typing of each word, very ‘frustrating’ I would prefer to spell check at the end, I need to get my thoughts down before I forget what I want to say, (give me a break here im 64 years old) Ok so I could get by with a swiftkey keyboard but I’m loking to get the best ROM for me not just make do, after all thats why I Rooted and am trying different Rom’s, otherwise I would just have kept the phones Samsung Rom.
