Hi everyone,
I don't know if it's just me, but i've noticed that when browsing the internet, in froyo roms scrolling, and pinch-zooming is quite choppy and not smooth at all ocmpared to sense roms.
Can something be done about it? or is it to do with the libraries and drivers used in these froyo roms?
well i won't my experience with froyo browsers was bad, but i can say nothing beats sense.. i'm using fallah rom (legend based sense rom), and browsing is a treat, add to that the quality video and pics this rom gives, it just fantastic.
I have to say that i havent got any problem with smoothness, but if u want, u can try out another browsers, like Miren Browser
i tried that and that is much more smoother than the stock one, but luckily i havent got any problem with the stock.
Smooth scrolling is in Sense roms. In non-Sense roms like CM is non-smooth scrolling
same here....i used tegro for a while with launcher pro only for the sense browser. i wonder why ....ui of cm is really fast...but browser ugly slow...
+1 here
any Froyo ROM I have used, the browser is very choppy and not smooth like Sense..
adding the flash (in)capability to that is the main reason I switched back to 2.1 sense roms..

Yep, flash incapability sucks, flash was one of the main reasons i bought a hero instead of a iphone.

Hi, i searched all over... some1 said to me that DeFrost would never likely be on the same ROM as Sense UI as they cancel each other out, I`ve found threads on here sowing the changelogs/bugfixes etc of DeFrost but what are all the PROs / CONs to Defrost ?
whats it got that renders sense UI uselss
thanks
The fact that there is no sense ui in Defrost. But just take a look at the defrost thread, all you need to know about, what it is and what it contains can be found there.
i moved from leedroids to defrost and have to say im impressed, support is amazing, its lighting fast and battery is also great, sense only takes up space and slows down the system.
I currently use defrost and it is fast. Alot faster and smoother then leedroid, however i think im going to go back to a sense rom.
This is for a number of reasons but mainly because of all the widgets and apps and extensions of sense. Once you try to get some of the functionality back that sense offers the rom starts to become as bloated anyway.
It you want sense use a sense rom, if not use a AOSP rom. TBH it is best to try them both out and see which you prefer.
I find that defrost is much faster, assuming you're using launcher pro, its more responsive to the touch... in my case anyway. the only downside to defrost i think is the camera skin... its ugly as hell. I love the camera interface on sense, although the video recording (720p) is much better on defrost.
anddd you can flash so many different kernels to your different needs on defrost, personally i like HAVS 1113 mhz BFS 875mA the best.. but thats only cause my desire can handle the low voltage
DeFrost is better in battery live and speed (of course it is a non-Sense ROM).
Sense ROMs (like LeeDroid) is according to my taste more beautiful and it is somehow like a birthmark of the Desire. The new Sense (HD or Z porting) is even more awesome than the ordinary Sense.
But of course, Sense will drain your battery and resources more than without Sense.
That is why I find it hard to decide which ROM I should use.
I am now on Z ROM...but dunno how long this will last...
I have tested 4-5 roms, and all have some problems.
What is the perfect ROM now? Not HD.

There is no perfect rom, there is only a rom you like best. Other people can tell you what they prefer but that does not have to apply to your preferences.
If you want to see what the most popular rom there is a poll some were in general.

did u try Leedroid?
It's all up to you. I'm using Oxygen 2.0 and I love it. It's missing the video camera function until the N1 OTA update but I have never used that anyways so I'm more than happy with it.
I personally use MIUI, brilliant rom but confusing updates, they realease new software all the time to its virtually bug free for me.
It has too many features to list, i find something new and by the time i found all the extras they release another update.
Try MIUI, its like a iphone but you can easily change the theme.
Battery life is somethin else and im using there stock kernel, 17 hours, sync on, wifi on, auto brightness (actually works) and mild to heavy use.
I'll try MIUI
Tried LeeDroid, MIUI, Oxygen (1.0 and 2.0), VillainROM, GinerVillain, SuperVillain, DeFrost, CM6, CM7, Ginger Redux, Amethyst. To be honest, I currently have CM7 installed but I am constantly changing ROMs anyway. CM7 to me actually works the best out of the Gingerbreads. I would say that if you want speed, stick with MIUI if you installed it since I got 2135 score in Quadrant (MIUI 1.1.12). But it is up to you. There is NEVER the "best" ROM.
i have tried about 10 different roms and i think insertcoin for hd is nice also leedroid is very good and fast
for me starburst, it is very stable, almost no issues at all. stock sense rom + the magnificent data2sd. i used to flash a rom once in a while, but now..im sticking to starburst. maybe its for a long time.
The op should be more specific in what he looks for, is it sense, non-sense or miui rom?
I find Sense ROMs more appealing than other two, and my favorites are Leedroid and AuraxTSense.
Leedroid is very fast, I used it for more than a month, but found that some memory leaks are happening to me and a few other users. It is a deal breaker for me at this time since the phone becomes unusable when it happens until rebooted, so I swinged back to AuraxTSense. It's performance is also admirable, it boots somewhat longer, but at this time it seems more reliable than the Leedroid. Both are equally fast and snappy in operation. Also snq's kernel has some quirks at this time, the phone rebooting itself when connected to a car cradle, screen turning on during charge being some of them for example.

CM7 Every Build till now has major issues at the moment (major for me for some none) as MMS and VPN don't work.
I am using the Redux-RC2.1 running gingerbread 2.3.2 in a very smooth way - highly recommended. VPN issue hasemt been solved yet but should be in the upcoming RC3 coming soon from the developer. MMS is not an issue and working great

Yes it works!
I've been using HiApk for a while now, loving it's speed. It's problem free so far.
Leedroid and AuraxTSense.
In my opinion there is a perfect rom.. Oxygenrom
It has a very fast and stable base, perfect power menu configuration
All functions like camera and gps work proper and rom feels really smooth
Depends on what appeals to you but personally, AurxTremeGinger or Reflex S do it for me.
Asking what the best rom is, is like asking what the best car is.
I found Redux v1.2 is a brilliant Rom Clean, fast and stable.
At the moment I test the InsertCoin v17 Rom and I found also it is a very nice Rom.
There is no perfect rom at the moment...
- Froyo sense roms are the most stable (Leedroid, Teppic's, AuraxTSense...) but they are not the fastest. (I think we can add HD/Z roms in this categorie)
- AOSP rom lack of some features like 720p, FM radio, HTC apps and widgets ; there is also this endless call delay bug. Despite that, they are the fastest roms at the moment and they can be very minimalist (and I'm sure a lot of people like minimalist roms like DevNull or Oxygen)
- MIUI is quite interesting but settings menu are so slow.
- New Sense roms begin to grow up, but I think the fact we are porting RUU from other devices to our Desires affects the quality of those roms.
Which one to go for? Do you think sense is a bit of a bloatware and slows the system down?
Thoughts and opinions appreciated?
Ford or Honda?
what do you do with your phone? Do you want/need social networking that is always there? ......could go on and on.
This is a stupid question, read more

It does seem to have a lot of bloat, but I could not say it slow the system down.
But the Sense Rom approx 240MB, where as CM7 Nightly is approx 80MB, IMO it a No Brainer.
Take Care
TheQuest
It isn’t a good question, because it is preference related. You should try both and decide by yourself.
Imo, sense has good things (like camera app, phone app, browser "windows", keyboad) but most part is pure bloatware. So i decided for cm and i'm not able to back sense again.
But of course, it's only my opinion. A LOT people would say i'm wrong...

try it for your self mate
ive been a sense user and a cyanogen user
but now im sticking to cyanogen
it really depends on your taste mate
Like the guys above said you should give each one a try before coming to a opinion
.I for one like the social aspect of sense but then DSP in CM is to die for .
Sense roms have better intergration with Facebook and the like. Not a problem for my self as I don't use social networks, but was for my missus. While sense roms are nice they do feel bloated compared to cm and they lack the configurations options of cm too.
Depends on what you want really, try both and see how you go. Nandroid and titanium backup are your friends.
For what it's worth, I always end up going back to a SENSE rom...

And i always end up back on no sense, CyanogenMod i like Mikes work, with his Revolution HD ROM/s, so check them out from time to time as well
Once you see how easy installing and backing up an installation is you will be a ROM addicts in no time
And then you can start playing with themes. there is some good work here done with that as well.
Used cm7 for a week or so. I kept going back to sense roms, bot for the social integration, but because to me, it simply looks much better, and the layout is nice, and the HTC apps are much better for me, than their aosp counterparts.
Gallery, camera, browser, keyboard, messaging, connected media, the themes themselves for me are better functioning, and better looking than the cm7 counterparts.
Sense widgets are nicely made also.
You should try them both and see which you like, it's all preference.

You have to give them a try!
I like changing ROM often: up to now I like and use a lot the Spike_M ROM that is a lighter version of cynogenmod, fast and smooth. It needs a few to be totally gingerbread.
Otherwise I use Android Revolution 3.2 that is a stock ROM but incredibly fast, stable and long lastng battery (maybe is the best all over). I've to say I like many Sense widget and do not totally dislike the beautifull integration with socials and messaging. HTC is born with touchflo and now with sense. For sure the stock rom gives a sense to the phone itself.
In a few word?
Try....
Ah a very nice question I wanted to ask myself... I started with the xperia x10 and am now with the HTC HD2 forum... there are so many roms available for my HD2
Okay comparing the two ... I would say the integration, look and overall feel of having a sense rom makes me actually like my phone...
Cons.... battery life could be better... I get about 9hrs daily with heavy usage on mornings and evenings before having to charge again
My experience with sense roms are good, but every now and again I get slowdowns. Does this happen with cyanogenMod?
CM is awesome and would be running it on my inspire if the stock htc music player worked on it lol. Sucks cause that's the only reason I just can't make the move lol I love the srs sound on my inspire . So like others have said it ends up coming down to what ya like.
Sent From My HTC Inspire 4G | [ROM] CoreDroid HD FROYO v3.3 | [KERNEL] LeeDrOiD v2.2.8 OC @ 1.5Ghz
i vote for cyanogenmod
ull only like a few appls on sense like the camera app, social network site integration and the HTC KEYBOARD with arrows other then that its all crap.
that's what CM lacks atm. stock camera is not that good and keyboard aint that good.
Camera app of sense + keyboard of sense +FB htc sense+ CM = perfection
CoreDroid is also woth try...
if u wan froyo go for Android Revolution HD 3.3
n if u want gingerbread try CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V4.8
Having a lot of choice is a much better problem than having no choice
Anyways, I'm a big fan of SENSE. I love the way they have integrated all the social media. Especially for me, since I don't visit facebook often. So I love the fact that updates are pushed to me.
Anycase, if you are into a lot of social hubs, then Sense People app is worth its salt. I also like the level of polish Sense brings on top of android.
However, if you are a purist ( as many over here are ), go with cynogen.
However, I believe the Cynogen Mod's battery life is not as good as some of the "SENSE" based ROMS, like Leedroid or revo series (Correct me if I'm wrong!).

yes found the sense roms are easier on the battery so far, but CyanMod have improved in this section a fair way in recent months
What is the quickest and most smooth sense Rom available? I don't mind any version of sense.
I presume it will be something minimalist like leedroid or teppic?
It's all subjective, but I've tried them all, and droidzones supernova is by far the quickest and smoothest, quadrant is meaningless too but it's higher than any aosp (or other sense) rom I've ever used. but if you try it, you'll probably give up flashing. Nothing beats it imo.
Agree about quadrant, its useless.
I'm currently on leedroid which is pretty good, I have tried teppic but I get lots of FC when I restoring apps.
I'll try supernova.
Leedroid is everything but minimalist, port especially. If you want smooth don't go after leak based roms. Though most of the roms I tried seemed smooth with sense overlay, most of alternative launchers seem to lag at least a little.

Out of all the Roms I have tried, I have found the standard leedroid Rom the best for speed and smoothness.
I agree about his HD port, its not as good.
Also all the Roms which have sense 2.1 are not as quick as those with standard sense.
Keep an eye on this:

Its almost perfect and is definitely the fastest sense rom I've tried, its worth a try as it is

Edit_ droidzone supernova is perfect.. Official gingerbread, and unlimited memory! Just read the instructions, it's easy to install, just different depending on s_off or not. I like this rom lol.

I've been a longtime user of droidzone's StarBurst and SuperNova. Between the two, StarBurst (Froyo) is still faster--you can ask droidzone himself. He uses StarBurst for his personal Desire.
However, if you think that SB or SN is fast, then I guess you haven't tried Oxygen 2.2.1 with Data2SD (yes, Data2SD works with Oxygen).
LeeDroid is good but it's NOT minimalist; in fact it's one of the most bloated ROMs, although the good thing is that it's stable, and rarely gums up. The reboot time, though, is exasperating esp. when you have around 180 user apps like me. That isn't a problem with Oxygen.

Remember the new super nova is updated to official ginger bread, it's smoother than the old one.
Yeah I tried the new oxygen yesterday, and went straight back to dz. I found it a bit laggy, thought it might be some thing to do with the update to 2.3.5. Never tried the data 2sd script though. Also tried the new gv yesterday too. I like my sense too much.. Find the sense launcher scroll s the page when you want it too, with aosp I swipe home screens and nothing happens first go, it's annoying. Tried star burst, but bbci player didn't work... So went back to super nova. Again. everything just works.

To fix your force closes after restoring, open a file manager, root explorers the one I use, and fix the permissions for the apks. Thats usually the issue there.
^ah, now there lies our main difference. You like Sense, I don't. I've always used Go Launcher regardless of what ROM I use (except when I was on MIUI).
Hope this is the right place to make this question.
i've lurking this forums for quite sometime now, i've tried a lot of roms sense and AOSP... and in the last few days i've been using probably the most stable rom (liberation 3) besides a stock rom, but i still cant get used to sense 1.0 i just dont feel confortable using it, yes its incredibly fast, no lag ever, best battery life, but the UI just feels akward. im in love with sense 3.5 but not even with the latest gingertiny its fast enough for me, lots of lagging and sporadic FCs.
So my question is, wich rom (sense rom) dou you think would work for me, i would be confortable with a sense 3.0 rom or even a sense 2.0, but i need full functionality (720p recording, or at least 800 with no lag, camera saving to emmc, emmc mounting, wifi/3g drops) and faster and lees lag possible.
or should i try to get used to sense 1.0 again?

I recommend inc2 mctwist or optimized shift bother are sense 2.1. Both are about as stable as you're gonna get with a non stock based rom. Most sense 3.0+ Roms don't get any support anymore and bugs never got fixed. I personally use aosp (incdeck) but the incredible really can't handle anything above 2.1 sense
I can second inc2 mctwist. It seemed to be the fastest and most stable non stock sense based rom for me. Personally though I still prefer AOSP roms. Hope you find one that works for you!

I keep going back to the stock+ rom. All the features of the 3.0/3.5 roms are nice but the little bugs here and there bother me.
The bells and whistles are nice but they come at a price of poor battery life and lag due to our outdated hardware. I had good luck with Synergy which was a 2.1/3.x hybrid but is no longer supported. But I do always find myself going back to stock builds.
