With the default messaging application when i receive a mms it comes in as a slide show even though it is only one picture. If i open picture up and hit menu ,pause, the picture still goes away after a little while.
Why am i receiving a slide show when one picture is sent to me. I know i can use chomp or handcent but i would rather jut get this fixed.
Is it possible to stop slide shows or just the way things are on the phone?
I would like to know if there is a fix for this too.
Thank you

The fix is to replace the htc messing app with the standard android app. It's been a while since I did it but a google search will yield the instructions and the apk.

So far i seen that happen in the beginning Also.. the reason it goes to slide show is cause there is a caption to the pic. Have the person or persons not write something and just send the pic.. it will come not as a slide show

Actually that is not totally true... I have recieved plenty of messages with captions... I have seemed to narrow it down to
1. Iphones like to create slideshows for us. (Randomly at that)
2. The file format of the picture..

Thank you doing a search i found the Mms.apk file removed old one and installed new one and it worked out just great.
@masterfuel:
I get what your saying, that might be true in some cases, but i have tested this method with only Androids sending me the pictures.
Its been from DroidX, Evo, both bring up a slide show, but after doing what "baknblack" suggested actually turned out to be a better solution.
If anyone needs the fix here it is

Thanks for all the feedback on this. I have been getting a slide show for pretty much everything. From android, blackberry and iPhone. Maybe it has something to do with the captions people are adding like someone mentioned. But it is annoying that u can't stop the slide show. If u click on picture there is a pause button but it starts again by itself. I will try that basic Android fix and see how that works out. I am guessing u push file to system/app and delete the old one.... whatever that is called. I have to see if there are instructions in the other thread linked here.

if i try to compose a mms from the picture gallery the message shows up blank with no picture attached .. if i add the picture manually and then try and send the app force closes ...
I used to have this issue also, I remember searching for a fix and then found that it was just the messaging app, downloaded handcent and have never looked back, just remember to disable the notifications on the stock app and then you have a fully functional, kick ass, text messaging app.

Something got borked on mine on new years eve I was sending some pics and it hung. I know the network was jammed that night and i think the thing got itself into some state it couldn't recover from. Like having a file that didn't close properly or something.
This happens to me as well...with handcent....HATE IT!

Hi guys,
Does anyone have the issue of photos not updating on the phone with the FB app? My friends change their profile picture on FB but the pix on my phone do not change and or update.
I use HandcentSMS instead of the normal stock and it is annoying to have some contact with no picture (even though they have one) and some with old pix.
Anyone know something about this?
Also what's the difference between the stock FB app and the one on the Market?
Cheers

Okay, so then yes there is a difference. The one in the market is more standalone, the one built in is integrated into the contacts app. The way you can manually link pictures is by going to contacts, opening a contact, and in the upper right hit links, and then select link to facebook profile and it'll come up with a list of your friends.

That is exactly what I did a while back ago; link contacts via the link symbol to FB. My issue is the contact pix not updating when my friends update their profile pix some even show a ? when in fact they do have a pic.
If I select contacts to view my phone list all the pictures that are shown are those that were saved/synced when I first purchased the phone. Since then my friends have changed pix or added one but my phone does not recognize and or sync/update the new images

Ah, yeah they can be glitchy. I have problems on stock and AOSP roms, it's just not very good at keeping them synced. They will eventually. Try clearing your cache, and the app cache for facebook for mytouch.

Lately when I try to dowload a pic from either MMS or emails ect. I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue, and better yet if anyone has figured out how to fix it this issue is driving me nuts.

Wow that's quite weird! For cases like this I ussualy go for a fresh start. Do you have the stock SD card?
Format it on your computer with fat32. Remember to back up necessary pics, videos, backups, etc.
Then follow my little guide below as much as you prefer. (You don't have to follow exactly) my setup will get you that fresh clean slate.
If your problem is still there, let me know.

I was about to write the exact same thing.
Facebook's contact sync is still in the app, but it's only accessible through the legacy (read: physical) menu button.
Looks like facebook just got lazy and didn't carry over the entire settings menu into the new ui.
Maybe a nice dev can fix their crap and give you a way to access that 2nd menu?

Nah, afaik it's really FB that doesn't let it sync. Got something to do with FB refusing to use Google's APIs. There's a post on that issue somewhere, can't find it atm. Unless FB change their attitude, we won't be seeing sync in Android.
You are indeed correct.
Hadn't heard of this before, so did some digging and apparently Google got tired of giving FB special access to do a pseudo-sync of contacts (in other words, even though FB data was in the contacts app, it didn't actually sync to google contacts).
I'll have to keep this in mind when I get around to picking up my own Nexus.

Does anyone get facebook notifications i have not had any yet on my GN or does anykne know how to fix it?
Is no-one else having the same UI glitches that I have?
When I pull down to refresh, it doesn't pull the feed down, just the bar at the top. Looks really clumsy and I don't think it's meant to behave like this.
Also, it gives me notifications for unread messages every half hour, regardless of whether there are new ones or not.

Have you rooted your phone? It has not happened to anyone in this world in Stock ROM.
Look, the Amazing Spiderman 3D Live Wallpaper has a sign in the top right corner when we switch between homescreens. So, I think it might be something with the wallpaper you're using..
OR
It may be some app you downloaded that runs all the time (like a battery saver app) which shows some sort of sign when the screen is turned On and the phone is Awake.

Yes, it happened to me. Not 5 times, but I must say that the Stock Messages app is bad! Very, Very, Very bad!
It'll go away by itself.. At least now it doesn't happen with me... Actually its because HTC One V hasn't loaded all the threads and we command it to open a thread. So, after 1 second when all the threads (the whole messages app is loaded) it takes us back to show the full messages app loaded.
Ah great explanation, thanks man. Any new messaging apps that you would recommend? The phone is actually my mothers with that issue that has been not sending texts at random intervals and wanting htc error reports as well. It has a 3d wallpaper, not rooted and I don't think either of those have to do with the wheel. It's pretty much stock.

No. I won't recommend any 'cause I've never seen any! Also, it's not needed! You know... My memory RAM was too low (always 30-40MB free). But when I uninstalled many apps that I never used, with the phone getting faster, the messages app has also got smoother.
Now why did this affect the Messages app? --Because I uninstalled apps that took a lot of RAM, my RAM got released much after they got uninstalled. Now I have 70-80MB of RAM free and indirectly this helps the Messages app by allowing it to take RAM and store cache. Now I dont have any problem with Messages app..
Perform the following steps-
Clear the data and cache in Settings-Apps-Messages.
Open the messages app and use it.
Go to Settings-Apps.
Under the Running tab, gently tap on the green area at the bottom right (which indicates your free RAM).
The Running tab will then show the cached processes.
The more the memory is used by the Messages app, the more it gets smoother.
If no memory is used, let me and eveeyone on XDA know.

Well, this is embarrassing.
Something I just found interesting about (what I assume is) a TW limitation?
When I want to take a picture to attach to an SMS, or attach an old picture to an SMS, I seem to only have the choices of the stock cam and stock gallery apps.
I thought that perhaps I had inadvertently set a default in the first day of ownership (although I don't remember doing so, and I am fastidious about these things), but there were no defaults to clear, either in the MSGing app, or the cam app.
While I find being forced to use the stock gallery for attachment annoying (I like QuickPic far better, for several reasons), not the end of the world.
But I use Vignette almost exclusively for taking pics, and having to close txt app > open vignette > take pic > close vignette > (wait for pic to process) > open txting > attach pic... P.I.T.A.
Am I missing something obvious? It's been quite some time since I used TW stock for any period of time. (On my E4GT I used anything but TW for the last 6 months of ownership...) But even then I still seem to remember TW offering me a choice of installed cams for attachments. Is this a Note II "thing"? Or something in the newer iterations of TW?
Thanks for reading, comrades-in-nerdiness.

There are no defaults to clear in the cam, gallery or messenger. I am literally forced to use the stock cam in attaching a pic to a msg.
Can someone confirm that this is the case on stock for them as well?
Or perhaps confirm that on a different rom its Not the case?

Edit: actually it might be how the phone software is meant to handle attachments. I installed another gallery app and it doesn't show up either.

thanks, if you're on stock, than I consider the issue confirmed. for stock at least. with gallery.
anyone on any other ROMs can confirm?
(I already assume that anything AOSP does not have the issue, but I am wondering if any TW base ROMs have tweaked something that would allow for other apps to be used as either defaults.)
I've only had the option to use stock camera/gallery on TW.

When choosing to add an attachment if you choose take picture it defaults to the stock camera. But when u chose to attach an image and click on the stock images symbol you get options to choose from different apps. And quickpic pops up fine for me. thanks for that! would never have found that, counter-intuitive! (also, I tend not to attach many images from the gallery, usually take them on the spot.)

still hoping to find a way to use a better/different camera app in attachments though. hrm. far more important.

What I hate is when browsing the gallery if you have your dropbox synced to it you don't have an option to share. However I do for my Facebook pictures which is also an online service. So in order to share I have to go to the messaging app and click attach from the dropbox in the attach photo selection I posted above. If you attach directly from dropbox it created a link to visit instead but if you use it from the massaging app it loads up the photo.
