Since my thread was closed....

I was not expecting any more donations, it was intended to be a release to those that had already donated. I intended to let things die down on here before a public release here and my last public release here. Then everything was blown out of proportion and people felt that they were obligated to donate in order to receive it. I wanted it to be released for those that already had donated as a thank you for your support and that I would publicly release in about a week.
I can not help that people make assumptions, this is not my fault. I can not help it that Midget and JasJamming (AKA CRUSTEL) have to play games. It was done so I could decide if I wanted to publicly release or not because of recent events. If it would not have been here it would have been on my site.
So those that still feel as if I am "charging" for a M$ product so be it, I can not help how you perceive what my intentions were. The rom will be released here it is just a matter of when, and will be my final release on xda. All future releases will be on my site where I am not under the scrutiny of biased individuals.

I donated to Custel a few days ago. I had no expectations as I have donated to others as well. A short time later I received a PM with his beta. I did not ask for it and he did not request more donations. He only said for me to try it, not distribute and report back. I think he is being unfairly criticized. If others got the impression that he was requiring a donation then IMHO they are wrong.
I appreciate the hard work of the many talented pros on this and other sites. You have taken this gear we call a phone to a new level. Getting into pi**ing matches does not further the cause in the proper fashion.
I truly have no horse in the race here. I just want everyone to know that from my experience Custel was always above board.

Nicely done, Custel. I've always had a feeling that you are a man of intellect and integrity, and I never doubted your sincerity, nor your intelligence when it comes to resale of M$ property.
I think you are owed an apology (yeah, wait for that), and recognition that you were mature enough to come back here and explain your intentions.

Honestly, that is how I read your intentions to begin with. It's what ensued thereafter that made things appear 'underhanded' and perhaps get blown out of proportion.
While it's admirable to say that you 'weren't expecting any more donations' (and I take you at your word that you weren't), you should have backed that up with not accepting any more donations nor giving anyone but prior donors access to your pre-release until such time as you made a public release, wherever that may be.
That said, every indication was (and still is) that those who donate will be given access to your ROM and until that point is cleared up, your actions will remain questionable and under debate.
You do good work, CUSTEL. Don't let it be sullied by some silly scandal.

Glad you see as such. Yep, that's all you needed to do to put the brakes on this mess.

It is unclear to me exactly what happened, and that isn't important. What is important is the deterioration of XDA-Developers. Some of the best cooks are leaving. If this trend continues, what kind of place will be left.
Custel - I will continue to run 2.5, it is almost the perfect ROM for me. Please try to work this out. Maybe some of the moderators will see what is happening.

They know you have a short temper and they try to piss you off in every way they can I just hope that some of the few good Mods left on this forum will try to clean up some of the favoritism that has plagued this forum. XDA-Developers isn't about cooking ROMs. It is our work that makes ROM cooking possible. For each and every device, we first take it apart and build tools to unlock CID and SIM. We do this at great risk to our expensive new devices. When finished with this part of our work, we have allowed the flashing of other operator ROMS. Then we begin to decode the ROM image itself and build the tools to manipulate it. Finally, we unlock the bootloader and make it safe for the masses to flash.
When this happens, chefs appear and custom ROMs are produced. Bickering and fighting occurs. N00bs are bashed. Yet XDA-Developers are mostly done at this point. Go back through the older device forums and find out what folks like Buzz Lightyear went through. It's a repeated cycle.
My hat is off to the Hermes XDA Developers: pof, Des, OliPro, Tadzio, Bepe, mun_rus. I shake my head in wonder at these folks as I use their tools and hard won knowledge to perform XIP grafts on my latest Hermes ROM.
XDA developers are application gurus too and we provide critical fixes/patches. I'm a part of this as are folks like SuperDave and ViJay555.
Hermes is at EOL. Be happy to know that we will once again begin taking apart the next big device. We are looking forward to Kaiser and the next set of challenges.
XDA developers won't die when the Chef's star fades with their devices. We will be doing what this site is all about: making your next device better.

@Sleuth: A really nice, concise synopsis...it should be stickied as a solo post ... a motto ... a mission statement.
I've only been 'round these parts for a few months now, and have barely learned how to make use of the end-parts of this EOL, and I am forever grateful for the wonderful experience. I've learned some things, hope to learn more, and am enjoying the ride.
I thank you and all the geniuses on your list. This site is amazing! A real tribute to what this Internet thing could be. An educational tool and repository for historical knowledge. Better than any library ... bringing that knowledgebase first to our homes and businesses, and now, to the palms of our hands.
But I digress (15 hours of work will do that to you).
Thank you for that last post...I really enjoyed it after a very stressful day.

Have Microsoft been nagging xda-developers.com recently to stop with the cooking? Yet another thing that makes Android look more promising (are you listening, Microsoft?)
But that having been said, you gotta admit the policies here with respect to "warez" are borderline at best anyway. For example, I can't post a cab that would install voice command, but I can post a ROM that has it. I can't post a crack or a keygen for any number of apps, but I can post a ROM containing cracked copies...so well done that the end user doesn't even know he's running cracked software.
A lot of the time, we speak out of both sides of our mouths as a community here. I think some nagging and some C&D letters shouldn't surprise anyone.

Well put man, after i read your post i decided to check out the price of some of the stuff on rom and stuff i have borrowed(cough) just for fun and it does cost a pretty penny for this stuff. I almost started feeling bad then i remembered wasting 50.00 on 2 programs that sucked, all better now lol. Either way the dash is becoming a thing of the past with all this fancy stuff coming out and we all have 6.1 anyways so if they took it away would it really matter? I have it downloaded on comp and on disk so im good to go haha

What about when you finally change to a new phone? I don't think your dash rom is going to work. This isn't just about the roms of now, but the roms of the future as well. just a thought

REQ: Tipulator

Hi has anyone seen the Iphone ad running in the UK at the moment which has a handy app on it called the tipulator.
This is a simple calculator in which you type in the total amount of your restaurant bill then how much in percentage how much you want to tip then choose how many people you want to split the bill between and it tells you what each person has to pay.
I'm sure this would be pretty simple to build on the WM platform - has anyone seen anything like this?

Some people are obviously very lazy...

there is an iphone app for absolutely everything , and most of it is pointless, like the spirit level which is actually just the gsensor calibrate screen on the touch hd , there may be apps but good quality apps is what matters so let them have there mass load of rubbish, once we get a few 3d games we'll be laughin

I think its a pretty good idea. There are plenty of people out there who do not know how to reprogram a WM phone. Sory I'll rephrase - not SAD enough to know how to reprogram a WM phone!

If I went out for a meal with a group of people and someone used excel to calculate the split, I'd think they were a complete tosser, and tell them so.
But then most of you aren't old enough to go into a pub let alone go out for a meal and not have your parents pay for it.
So I'll "third" the proposal.

Firstly if your asking for help then ask for it don't assault the people who could be programming this for you!
Secondly excel does exactly what you want it to do, if your too stupid to write a simple percentage calculation then your too thick to own a WM phone!
Thirdly I'm a comfortable programmer, I do it as part of my job, but I do have a life, I'm surrounded by good, intelligible friends, I enjoy power kiting and surfing, I probably have a much better life than you!
Fourthly if you think someone's a tosser for using a WM application (Excel) to calculate the tip then you MUST think they would be a tosser for using an identical application that someone's put on their device but with pretty pictures so rambling buttock scrapings like yourselve can use it without confusion!
Finally learn to use the search facillity it's really very simple, I also hear Google do these searches aswell!
So don't sign up to a developer forum calling all the developers misserable Bas*ards!
Don't retalliate with a barrage of insults when people try to help you!
And don't post without searching!

I dont think anyone really wants a "tipulator" cos its useless. More useful would be the bill splitting thing that they showed on the iphone advert. I know its another thing from the iphone n stuff....but that is actually gd unlike half the apps from the apple store.

They demand that we immediately remove the application and any advertisements regarding the application from any website on which they appear. This includes wallpapers/ringtones/icons/screenshots.
So i'm asking you all to remove any icon/wallpaper you might have.
It was a fun ride theming the AndroidOs. Mods please take action..

My wife was actually planning on going this weekend to get/order one for work (her work isn't with T-Mobile, so she has different choices).
I can't wait to tell her about this when she wakes up. I know her feelings about this type of nonsense, and I guarantee she won't be wanting a Palm after this. It's a "theme" for goodness sake... a sincere form of flattery. And in her case, she was pretty dead-set on getting one. I don't know what she'll end up getting now, but I can almost 100 percent guarantee she'll spit on the Palm demo unit when she walks by it to look at other phones.
It's not like the OS was ported over for the phone. Just some creative types put together a theme that partially emulates the look and, well, less slightly, the feel of the POS Palm.
It's nice to see makers show their true colors at any early stage in the game. Thank you Palm, you silly little request irked us enough to reconsider a Palm purchase. Hope your board is proud.

does this mean that any other theme that has any elements of your pre theme must remove those as well, or just palm branded images? this sucks massively.

Aren't they in a battle with Apple for some crap like this? Not theme wise but trying to sue because they Palm hacked the Pre to work on iTunes, Apple updated iTunes and Palm got made saying it violated some USB crap?

There have been "funny" people in the past who eg. demanded crossbow to be deleted in name of Microsoft, but turned to be false.
We wait until OFFICIAL claim of Palm, via the PROPER channels, and not by an UNVERIFIED notice placed by a third party!

I think we've gotta start a bounty thread to get you an Android phone. That's going to be well worth it that teaching you facts about Marketing, Sales and Corporate policies.

Those projections are certainly possible, but you have to bear in mind that they are based on what is known today. For example, no projections that were made two years ago gave Microsoft any hope of being more than a blip on the radar in the mobile space, because WP7 hadn't been unveiled yet. Similarly, no analysts making projections today can know what Apple or Google may or may not accomplish within the next 3 years.
So, while these projections should make people optimistic for the future of the OS, that optimism should be realistically cautious (as should any optimism for any of the major players - a lot can happen in three years).

LOL, while it might be from November 2011 (a few months ago) but the projections are still the same and won't get any better, well at least anytime soon; maybe like Microsoft it's self-predicted in 2015 or maybe even 2018 but as of now there is no way. I'm pretty sure that if you were too look up todays stats they would be no different at all. Don't get me wrong I'm with you guys in the sense that I would like to see MS succeed but they just don't get it. I have a WP and I honestly can say I do not know one other person who has one at all.
Guys as I have stated before, this is not to feed trolls or single out one person for their opinions, MS needs to listen to both sides, positive and negative. So don't take my personal comments to personal. With that being said let's see what this year will bring, hopefully I'm wrong but as a WP user I have the right to voice my opinion and will continue to do so until either MS gets it or the go bust whichever one comes first.

Thanks for posting, I took a look at those charts and they look like they are predicting the future; I wonder how they do that? Do they have some kind of crystal ball over a MS or something? How do they figure that they will even sale these may phones in the future? Maybe they are listening and changing stuff around, boy I really hope so.

After that Nokia has launched Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 in India and USA and probably Hong Kong - not sure. Those are markets with huge numbers. Not UK! So wait and give me figure after 2 months.

My moaning is not directed towards you so that means I wasn't talking to you in perticular. My grips are with MS and I am just pointing out somethings is all and if you don't like it too bad simply ignore my coments, it's not that hard to do. I don't go around directing anger towards you when you make your coments or voice you opinons even if they are stupid or not because you have the right to just like I do. Again if you don't like it, ignore it; I know I would.

Honestly I can't stand IE9 in its desktop version. If it was as clean, light and intuitive as the mobile version then I'd go for it anyday, but right now the only browser with that simplicity and clean design (or at least it's close) is Chrome. I can't stand anything else.

Actually IE9 is much cleaner with it's inbuilt contents filter. Have you tried it? It's tracking contents blocked thing. You can download simple 1 or 2 lists of adblockers and it becomes so much cleaner! You don't even need to run add ons on it! I din't realise it till someone tweeted this to me

From your posts I see you as a big Windows Mobile fan. I understand if others think you're trolling on WP7 forums as 90% of your posts are pure negativity on WP7. I googled Windows Mobile for reviews and almost all of them were negative. WM was dissected and lambasted and all reviewers agreed on one thing - WM sucks.
Fast forward to WP7: it won three awards with mostly positive reviews from all major and reputable tech sites.
I understand your right to voice your opinions but stop preaching your hack and slash doctrine on what OS everybody should have...

So then maybe you should direct your venting where it might do the most good, a Microsoft support site for WP7. Most posters here either have something to contribute or are in discovery of various aspects of WP7 os. Pissing and moaning just doesn't play well in a forum dedicated to development. If you so need a phone that meets your every whim perhaps you should build it.

You hardcore fanboys are just too much, it's funny how you get all pissy and mad when someone comes on here and tells the truth about a divce that for some reason you seem to worship, but you do make a vaild point I will search for MS websites and direct my whims and trolls towards them. BTW my bike doesn't leak oil... my local BMW garage just said it did to try and get loads of money out of me... but that's a discussion for a different forum...
