REQ: Tipulator

Hi has anyone seen the Iphone ad running in the UK at the moment which has a handy app on it called the tipulator.
This is a simple calculator in which you type in the total amount of your restaurant bill then how much in percentage how much you want to tip then choose how many people you want to split the bill between and it tells you what each person has to pay.
I'm sure this would be pretty simple to build on the WM platform - has anyone seen anything like this?

I just use me brain. Time I got the HD app to do it, I'd have figured it out in my head!!

Hmmm sounds like another excuse for iPhone owners to get their phone out and bore people stupid with how wonderful they think its is... the resturant as well as the pub now...

Some people are obviously very lazy...

there is an iphone app for absolutely everything , and most of it is pointless, like the spirit level which is actually just the gsensor calibrate screen on the touch hd , there may be apps but good quality apps is what matters so let them have there mass load of rubbish, once we get a few 3d games we'll be laughin

We have freekin excel in our pockets you can calculate almost anything!

So a neat little app like the tipulator is probably quite appealing.

If I went out for a meal with a group of people and someone used excel to calculate the split, I'd think they were a complete tosser, and tell them so.

Firstly if your asking for help then ask for it don't assault the people who could be programming this for you!
Secondly excel does exactly what you want it to do, if your too stupid to write a simple percentage calculation then your too thick to own a WM phone!
Thirdly I'm a comfortable programmer, I do it as part of my job, but I do have a life, I'm surrounded by good, intelligible friends, I enjoy power kiting and surfing, I probably have a much better life than you!
Fourthly if you think someone's a tosser for using a WM application (Excel) to calculate the tip then you MUST think they would be a tosser for using an identical application that someone's put on their device but with pretty pictures so rambling buttock scrapings like yourselve can use it without confusion!
Finally learn to use the search facillity it's really very simple, I also hear Google do these searches aswell!
So don't sign up to a developer forum calling all the developers misserable Bas*ards!
Don't retalliate with a barrage of insults when people try to help you!
And don't post without searching!
Oh yeh and I'm 22 more than old enough to drink in this country!

I dont think anyone really wants a "tipulator" cos its useless. More useful would be the bill splitting thing that they showed on the iphone advert. I know its another thing from the iphone n stuff....but that is actually gd unlike half the apps from the apple store.
Has anyone got anything like that already? if yes then pls share with us!

Well now that I read the whole ad, more power to him. All those cabs In one place for someone who dosnt want or have time to spend hours searching through forums for the mods and apps, plus the DIY videos and hes availible for tech support, Im actually impressed. This was a great money making idea! I should do one for the Q.

I have to agree, there's a lot of people out there, even here , that would prefer things to be handed to them and told in baby steps how to use them, he's smart for coming up with the money making skeem like this, and I'm sure plenty of people will eat it with a spoon, instead of doing the work themselves.

yes it is a good idea, but i kind of took it like a slap to the face. not to me, but for the developers of these programs. i mean they do this for free and ask for donations if you like the program, there not forcing you to pay for it although it does help them out. this guy is making you pay for them, i just don't think it's right... however i can't deny that this is a convent way to get all these nice programs.

Well I, personally, think "what a rip"! This guy is profiting off of the hard work of others. Granted, he has taken the time to compile all of the needed CAB's, and is there for tech support. (I don't envy him, I bet he is getting thousands of phone calls or emails a day). So yes, he is working hard as well I am sure. But I think he should donate at least some of those profits to the hard working developers that have made this possible for him to do in the first place.
Who is to say that he is not donating a portion of said profits, but I seriously doubt it. All in all, though, it IS an eye pleasing and feature packed ROM.

Ya this is a few cab file themes mixed together installed. lol Looks like it maybe part of a iphone S621 theme file, thats full tho, looks not bad, i got much better Background theme files if i Had that theme! lol

I'm seventeen and I own a TP2.

i see people with TP2/tilt2's all the time.
A girl i know used to have one but she switched to BlackBerry because it was too slow/buggy for her. She was running stock rom and i didn't have time to flash it for her.

I saw a girl with Sprint Touch Pro2 while I was waiting to be seated at a steakhouse. Her phone had the stock UI, and much to my surprise it looked quite speedy compared to my tricked out Tilt2 with 2.5 manila ....

Should not have that attitude, I feel happy that young people have Rhodium´s

I'm 16 and I have a Rhodium (but I'm a male...)!
I haven't seen anyone else here in the SF Bay Area with a TP2. I keep seeing stupid little Sidekicks (some girls are now switching to the G1; one of my friends says she doesn't want the MyTouch3G because there's no keyboard)...and iPhones.

I'm not sure that they really for business people. My misses dad lives in the Middle East and is regional president for a large multi national engineering company and they won't support the TP2. Blackberry's the one.
However, saying that my misses has a horse and at the yard where she keeps it all the 12yr old girls have blackberries. She asked one why and the reply came "I just like them, I've always liked them".
Maybe her school's got an Exchange Server lol

rotfl lmao! wow htc is an awesome country but you gotta understand kids only like what they see and if they are not seeing htc....then they wont like it. they gotta see their mentors or teen idols have it. i used to be a treo guy. 650 thru 800w....i cant see myself leaving tp2. but hey what would i do with my free time if a phone did everything i wanted out of the box?

Oh, okay. I understand what you're talking about.
I know how you feel...I see (though rarely) people at school with 'old' WM phones like the HTC Raphael and I saw someone with an Omnia. I also see a lot of Android phones now...It does seem like a waste seeing these people getting $500 phones solely to look cool with a touch screen phone and texting people.
I even have a friend, who used to own a T-Mo Dash3G, and he never even knew he could edit Word Docs on his phone! He now has an iPhone 3Gs!
Well, we just have to tolerate it...at least we know our phones are appealing to many people. Besides, it's their money!

Do I know I can edit a Word doc? Sure. Would I ever? Not a chance
But it sounds like your friend found a phone fitting him.

I dont know what defines as an adult phone. I have a Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2 and iPhone 3G, i feel as much of an adult with any of these phones.
I know alot of young people like to show off their new phones to friends and stuff, however I believe adults somewhat do the same as well. If you dont care about the aesthetics of a phone (HD2, TP2, iPhone, Moto Droid are good looking phones)), then you'd just get a blackberry strictly for business use.

haha that's kind of funny, I have a hard time thinking about someone getting this just to use everything stock. I'm only 15 and the main reason i got this was because of all the things i could do to tweak it and make it a lot more cool. Don't feel too bad about young people owning this phone, I wouldn't if I were you. Nowadays a lot younger crowd is able to grip to these smartphones, nothing wrong with that.

Anyway, what's the difference between some 15yr old with a TP2 and most owners of desktop PCs? Neither uses the machine to anywhere near it's full potential. I mean do you really need that monster quad core for writing emails and .docs ? Me thinks not !

Not exactly the demographic HTC was targetting, but it's cool that 'regular' people are starting to take notice of HTC's PRO series products.

I too feel a certain level of insult when someone mistakes my TP2 for an iPhone. I'm always like, "No man this isnt a toy it's the tilt2 aka TP2 aka current god of cell phones!" You hand it to them and laugh as they stumble through the menus never truly appreciating the TP2 for its worth only to hand it back and say, "Oh it's nice but I like iphones." Makes me want to give them the heavy hand of justice every time

Windows Phone 7 Should Have Customizable Wallpaper

I know this has been discussed before.
But have a look at this!

If you like it, post a comment on pocketnow, lets make some waves so that MS can hear us.
They have allready made som other changes according to our wishes, so there is still hope.

Yes, I think there should be more options to customize the homepage.
Transparent tiles & Wallpapers spring to mind. But I don't think this is a case of them not wanting to offer things of that nature, I just think that level of customization is out of the scope of this phase.
Edit: I think it should exist, but personally I'd probably disable the transparent tiles. I'd probably use a wallpaper.

I like the black background. With a amoled it will look very good.

I can't really see the point of wallpaper on the home screen. The tiles take up too much space and it would just clutter a nice clean interface.

I would love to have a wallpaper and the tiles half transparent.

I thought it would look ugly- but that dosn't look half bad- is it possible to develop an app which does this or wouldn't Mircosoft allow it?

I really like this. I'm hoping that we see this added in the first revision of the OS. The more customization options the better.

Wallpapers not featuring in this release doesn't mean that they aren't coming. Loads of stuff (actually, most of the stuff people critisize) has been left out for time constraints rather than as a design decision. I expect that includes wallpapers, it seems like an obvious thing.

i was an avid winmo user for years. wp7 not only looks like utter crap but it's more locked down than any phone ive seen. not being able to set my own theme or wallpaper is beyond ridiculous. this has nothing to do with me being a current android user. i just do not see this phone doing well until a crap load of changes are made, maybe by the devs. BUT from what i understand the devs won't be able to do much to it anyways. if i could shut off metro completely i may look into the phone just for the specs alone. most people i talk to agree 100% even loyal winmo devs. it's gonna take alot more than what wp7 currently has to offer to bring me back or most of the devs that defected to android. an believe me alot of them moved to android.

I would like to put forth that i am head of operations of a fairly sizable open source project. i give an awful lot to the community, i don't expect anything in return for my work. The reason i am on your case is because your wasting mine and others time.
You how and ever run a site called Android port. I fail to see what that has to do with Angry birds on Bada....
I could post that your an absolute joke on our projects homepage but i don't because i don't wish to waste the time of our users with my personal musings. Thats what a personal blog is for.
Lastly, They didn't say they where doing it. They claim to be looking into the demand for it on bada, which is what they have been telling people, in that same generic email, for almost a year.
A bit of professionalism goes a long way Tom.
