[Q] Does the Desire HD have internal ROM? (like RAM) - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im looking at HTCs website, and from picking 2 random products (Desire and WP7 Trophy) it says the following for both phones:
ROM: 512MB
RAM: 576 MB
On Desire HD spec. list it says:
RAM: 768 MB
What is ROM, and why doesn't the Desire HD have any?

the desire HD, Has a 1.5GB rom, the "rom" is basically the sum total of all the partitions on the nand chip

Yeah I read that too before I got the phone but when I got it I had a look straight away and there was about 1.1GB free.

Oops my bad. Just checked the size of the raw partition. It is 1.14GB. Not sure where my math went wrong

From what I've read, the DHD has 2 GB ROM, of which 500 MB is used for the software (Android + Sense), and another 500 or so is reserved for cache. Leaving about 1 GB for apps.

Oh yep, that makes sense. Well still, 1GB is heaps enough.

the combined size of /system and /cache is just over 750mb, no idea how big the radio/recovery and misc partitions are though.......

Internal storage isn't like RAM. Having the absolute maximum possible left over won't give you the slightest benefit.

I know that... just wanted a clean ROM without preinstalled apps that I don't use, but also can't remove. OD is perfect it seems

If thats the case why dont you delete them from the rom before you flash?

Ext3 or Ext4?

What is the best choice, if the ROM can handle both?

Ext4. More speedy..
[Sig] dId you know? If you Insert a Coin on your Desire, then it levels up to HD, Z or S :[/Sig] !!!! 10 post limit for off topic NOW!!!!
What size of ext4 partition is best?
1 GByte - more than enough. 512 MByte is good as well, but in some situatioations is not enough.

Oh, so it does not matter?
Ext 4 is not supported on all roms. Generally it is quicker, but that also depends on the ROM...

i've read somewhere in this forum that ext 4 would wore off your sd card faster than ext 3.
That's true, if it is without journal

I am very fine with Ext3. Did not realize any speed boost with Ext4 as well...

A file to 'categorize' files on the disk, for faster access (so to say), but for an SD this isn't needed because it's meant for big (1TB disks)
this should put things into perspective: http://gavinroy.com/initial-ext3-vs-ext4-results
Rom manager partition
I have created 512mb with 0 swap partition.
How do I know if thats 3 or4? Also how do i know if its working? Do I need to download anything else to move ups at the partition as Im still running out of memory...
Thanks In advance

HTC Wildfire S Rom & Partitioning 16GB card

Hi.
I think I'm going to install this rom on my HTC Wildfire S. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314430 (unless someone can suggest a better stable alternative)?
I have a 16GB sd card - how should I partition it (ie - what sizes)?
Im using mindhaxor's Rom. Its good for me.
Size depends on the amount of apps u r going to install.
If link2sd not more than 2 GB.
If data2sd. Generally no limitations.

Thanks but having looked at it, it still appears there are some bugs. I'll wait for a stable release.

If it so please let me know if any custom kernel cooked with latest ICS with ram allocation for use to be more than 700 mb atleast.
All problem comes with less ram allocation.

I don't have the device yet but the available storage for user is 23:24 GB ( more than 23 but less than 24 )
Sent from my HTC M8 using XDA Labs
I formated my phone clean last week, I believe when it was perfectly "clean" it was around 23GB. When I installed Viper Rom and no additional Apps, I think I was at 20GB.
Ok Thanks!
