I uninstalled Google Talk (accidentally) via Titanium Backup. Obviously a decent screw up as it kills a lot of services without it.
I tried searching for a posted apk, but no luck. Tried extracting it from the roms used in toasts root method, but failed.
I'm an idiot. Flame away, but help, please.

You're not an idiot because you made a mistake...you're not an idiot period.
I removed it too and I just downloaded damage control, unzipped it, went through the folders, and grabbed gtalkservice.apk out of it, pushed it to my phone and voila...buttt I attached it for you anyhow...
Cheers, mate. I'll give it a shot now.
EDIT: ooo, I love you. If you're ever in Gainesville, FL, I'll buy you a beer. Just PM me! hah
This could be a stupid question but humor me please. What is google talk for??? I've set it up to not activate automaticly but it does anyways killing my battery. Is it needed?
It's a messaging app, like instant messenger type. I don't know if you can actually delete the apk without problems occurring. I wouldn't imagine it eats too much of your battery though.
GTalk as system service
I feel the same as the original poster.....like an idiot.
I deleted the GTalk application as I was not using it and was trying to free up more space. However, I started receiving the "com.google.process.gapps" error soon thereafter.
In looking through forums and the internet, it appears that is a very common error with many causes. However, having the android sdk, it was suggested to use adb to get a bugreport.
In looking at my bugreport, I saw a lot of references to calls to the GTalk service. It is an underlying system service and it appears used by other apps as well. For example, I noticed that my GMail was not syncing consistently and I found myself manually refreshing to get it to sync.
I also noted that almost without fail, when I installed new apps in the Marketplace, I would see the "com.google.process.gapps" error.
My recommendation: Keep GTalk on your phone!
i did the same thing.
What does it mean to push a file to your phone? I dragged into onto my sd card and it still is giving me errors in the marker and constantly syncing...
Help!
This may sound really dumb but how do i go about installing the apk file? it tells me that im not allowed to cuz Google talk isnt referenced in the android market
Google services on your phone rely heavily on GTalk, as you guys are seeing. Even if you don't use it you need to keep it if you want to use pretty much any google apps such as the market, gmail, etc.
To install just put the apk on your sdcard, navigate to it using your favorite file explorer and click on it. Your phone has an installer that will recognize the apk as such and ask you if you want to install it.
Because RavenII was kind enough to post the apk you guys should be able to do all of this right from your phones.
*edit- I don't think it will be a problem but if you are not rooted you might get hung up on the install... wait a second.. if you're not rooted then you wouldn't have been able to remove it in the first place haha
I uninstalled Gtalk and everything is still working fine on my Evo no problems here.

This is a true statement. I am running DC 3.5.
My bad, I was navigating to the wrong file. Up and working now.
Is google voice important? I uninstalled that and I am having issues getting voicemail but I dont think its because of google voice. I was messing with voicemail the last few days and now I cant get it to work.

GVoice is awesome, I use it and love it so I'm curious why you got rid of it but NO, it is not critical to anything on your phone, you can get along just fine without it.
If you were using gvioce and now you are not then you need to be sure you've done the following:
-Dial *38 and hit send. The call will drop and your gvoice line will be disassociated with your phone
-Under menu>settings>call_settings>voicemail_service make sure it is set to "my carrier"
-Under menu>settings>call_settings>voicemail_settings make sure your Voicemail number is set to your cellphone number
That should get you up and running.
I will offer this: I don't know what caused you to decide not to use gvoice but I had tons of problems with my Sprint voicemail service interfering with gvoice. I called Sprint and had them actually remove voicemail service from my account. GVoice has been flawless since then.
Looks like a spoke too soon. Sync keeps getting stuck at the google contacts part, gives me an error saying "sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be back shortly."
Anybody know what gtalk (or any other critial programs) has to do with this?

lol, I almost posted that you must have some special setp because you would be the first.. but I didn't want to sound like an a-hole..
I don't know specifically what it is in gtalk that maintains google services, it's probably the program they use to maintain the google accounts database..
Correct me if im wrong, but I thought there was a thread that confirmed that in froyo Gtalk isn't really necessary in order for all the other Gapps to run correctly. I know for sure I don't have Gtalk installed and everything is working fine in my Evo.

How do I forward calls to my google voice number? My carrier is google voice and my voice mail number is my google voice number. If you call my phone number it doesnt forward to google voice voice mail. However if you call my google voice mail number and leave me a voice mail I get a Gvoice message. So its working so why not stick with it. I originaly didnt want to use it because i had to sign in and I didnt want it wasting battery lol.
Edit; Never mind I think i was expecting the wrong number to forward lol its working. I guess this means I will have to give everyone my google voice number now. I was kinda hoping I could forward my number to my google voice number. Or can I after typing this edit I confused my self great lol.
Off-topic.
I got fed up and reflashed DC3.5.
Hey guys, I've installed the voice search 2.1 apk and it's working fine, but today I decided to see if I could voice dial, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it working. Everything I say simply ends up a google search. If I long press the Search button while on the Home screen to bring up Voice Search, then say, for example, "Call Dad Mobile", all it does is do a Google Web Search for those exact words...I can't get it to actually dial!!
What am I doing wrong??? I also tried, "Open Calendar", and surprise surprise, it did a web search for those words. Nothing is working!!!
When you hold down the magnifying glass and say call someone, and it provides you with a google search, rather than actually calling someone.....
The problem is you have the wrong voice keyboard installed.
You were probably and early adopter of the device and installed the first one you found in a thread on here.
I had the same problem, and deleted the keyboard, installed a later one, and now it works.
Fon22
And where is the later one?
Do you mean Voice Search app or Voice Keyboard? I'm using Jonas' v27 HTC IME mod as my keyboard (created from the online skin generator).
If you mean Voice Search, I'm using Voice Search 2.1 apk, that I got from another website. Should I replace this with the one on the market place?
I'm running Jonas' v27 too, and I think the 2.1 voice APK (didn't install it separately, came with the MCR FroYo ROM). Works a charm for me (though only for some names, such as Adam Green, as most of my contacts have Eastern European names ).
Just tried replacing Voice Search with the one on the market place, and it's still doing exactly the same! I can use it for entering text, but NO voice commands work, it always defaults to doing a web search! What am I doing wrong? I'm running stock rooted 1.21 firmware, no modifications (apart for Jonas' keyboard).
Hmm....I think I may have just figured something out...can someone on here run a test for me? I need someone to check in People and see if their contacts are set to "Google" or "Phone". I have all but one of mine set to "Phone", but it seems that the one I have designated by accident as a Google contact is the only one that voice dialing works with...is this because, for example, Google actually searches your online contacts only, rather than the contacts saved exclusively on your phone?
Also, it still doesn't recognise the "Open" command...can someone also test that out for me?

I wish I could help you.. seems all my contacts are Google contacts. I even made a new one, and he's still a Google contact :/
And I never heard of Open X commands working. Open Mail, Calendar, Messaging all point me to a google search, so it understood what I said.
I have successfully been able to set up google voice on my 101 to send and receive sms messages. Install google voice from the market, go through the set up as if you were installing on your phone (you must have a google voice number). Once set up just start texting, it will work on both devices at the same time. You will also be able to get any voice mail you have set up with it. I also have been albe to set up Tango video chat using my google voice number. I now have almost everything thats on my EVO working on my 101. Still working on a possible way to make calls, will post if I can get it working. Hope this helps someone else like it did for me.

I'm using google voice with my google number. Just set it up like you would on your phone. Do you have the gapps installer? You need to install that first, then download google voice from the market.

I get a force close when I try to use "this phone" during setup. Did you do anything different when you were going through the Google Voice setup?
No nothing special, it only took me a couple minutes. It asked me witch phone I was using and I told it my evo, then skip the carrier setup and it works. Dont know why it would be force closing, didn't have any issues with google voice or Tango video chat. Do you have google voice set up on another device? Mine is set up on my evo, so when it asks what I wanna use I tell it my evo.

OH, no. The google voice is just supported at USA.
How can I change my location or network location to USA?
Anybody get anywhere on this?
I am trying to do the same thing... I wanted to see if anybody has made any real progress with this.
I keep reading that the SIPdroid and PBX account will work, but I can not configure it properly. I am having a hard time here.
I have Fring installed as well.
I have had a Google voice account for a year now and I have it working on the Archos 101 tablet already. The text and voicemail works great.
Thought that I would revive this thread a little since it is something that I am very interested in.
I had it set up at one point, using Sipdroid. but then my archos got fried and now I am stuck at the "setting up voicemail" part... sucks. when i get it figured out I will let you know how exactly to get it running.

You can use the edited apk from the Xoom forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11955195&postcount=75
Edit: ****
You do not need to be rooted to use this. Download the apk and then run it. When prompted for which phone you are using, select your regular phone, as was previously mentioned by jeffsanace.
I tried setting up my google voice mail up, but it says it cannot change the access numbers. This is a first for me. I still have the stock ROM on my phone, un rooted. Anyone one else run into this?
Some times GV will give messages like that, but indeed work. I recommend testing it. Have you set it up via the website? It provides a number, which is entered on the device.
I don't remember the steps exactly; it's been a while. However, I remember that it didn't work properly until I visited the website, and that it gave an error message, but worked fine.
I know it does not work as GV does not see new VMs, they get treated normally. This is not the first time i've set it up. I have set it up dozens of times on my other phones as i am always messing with new roms, but this is the only time it has not worked. I have tried a few times, and im wondering if its locked out for some reason.
Just to cover the basics; you've selected it as the default?
The next step I'd consider taking is clearing the application data and starting over.

Hallo,
I got a new note 2. Everything is working perfectly except the quick command. I can start it, write on it and then nothing. It just crash and I am back to the home screen. I cannot create new command. Nothing works. The S-Pen works beatifully in all other apps, everything else seems fine. I got the latest update Samsung pushed out. Any idea or suggestions? Anyone seen that?
Thanks in advance,
Umberto
Have you been able to get this working?
Quick command has never worked for me. I did some searching and found that someone had determined that Quick Command working was related to the Google account on the device. Specifically, synching with contacts caused it to fail.
I was able to reproduce this, and was somewhat surprised.
If I remove my Google account from the phone, Quick Command works!
If I add my Google account back, Quick Command works until I allow it to synchronize contacts. Once it does, it fails again.
I've gone through my Contacts, cleaned up duplicates, removed some unusual entries such as those with unusual characters, missing names, XML in the notes section. From what I can tell, it all seems pretty clean, but there is apparently *something* that causes Quick Command to choke when looking through the contacts.
Wondering if anyone else has had this issue or has any idea of a workaround to get this working.
Thanks!

Hi,
Actually yes. Ist your google account. I was able to get it working removing all accounts without a name (or first or last name). I had quite a lot of accounts with just a telephone or an email. Removing those it worked perfectly. Please do a backup of your contacts before trying. I am not responsible if you loose your contacts
Let me know if it works!

So weird...I've gone though everything I could think of, and it's still not working correctly. Do you recall anything unusual in your contacts in particular that you fixed? I've even gone through and made sure every single one has a first name and last name.
I don't even think I would use this feature much....But I'm on a mission now!
