Me too Just got a replacement Evo for my wife and nothing I tried works so far as far as rooting goes. So its not just you that have an issue.

HBOOT 2.10.0001
Tried regular old Unrevoked first.

Yeah man I'm trying to install a older official rom to see what happens.

I install the official RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_rele ase_CL195459 and it allowed root. Let me test before doing it.

Running warm twopointwo now.

Try again. I had exactly the same versions posted as you and http://unrevoked.com/recovery/ worked on the first attempt.

you are all fine but do not read.

I want to root, but unrevoked starts and says failed to push recovery..and don't want to use autoroot cuz it installs sprint lovers Rom,and I want to keep it stock...

2nd link in post 7 works well. It's manual, and more involved, but you see what's going on every step of the way. Learn something too.

you need to set up drivers for unrevoked, and put your phone in charge only mode with usb debugging on. i wouldnt use autoroot it is just an auto version of the second link i posted. when things are automated, you never kno what went wrong.

With autoroot how it roots depends on the phone, it was originally based on toastcfh's method but will use unrevoked forever if the eng hboot can not be used. It also saves everything it does in a log file so you can see exactly what happened if something does go wrong.

Unrevoked works fine with the new Sprint update. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but there's gotta be something you're doing wrong. My Evo was purchased on 1/1/11 and had all the most recent updates and I got it first try.

Nothing wrong. I know how to use adb and I have been root EVO's for a while. I got home from sprint after they replaced my screen and unrevoked would not root it. I tried it 3 times. So I just downgraded and rooted from there. So I'm good. Thanks for your input.

You have the windows drivers installed before running unrevoked, right?

Just to let u guys know,,I was having a error w htc sync after uninstalling as son as I uninstalled it went thru on the first try!!!!unrevoked

Brand new
Ok so I purchased my EVO right before xmas. I was running the same software, hardware as the current EVO's being handed out today. Took me quite awhile to muster up the courage as well as do all the research before deciding to root. As of last night, succesfully rooted using Unrevoked3 following all instructions, flashed cyanogen 6.1.2 and everything went flawlessly. Albeit I may not be in the "know" as most on here (newbie, especially on android) but following my recent adventure, I have also rooted 2 more EVO's (friend+boss) running the same specs as mine and the OP, all with no problems. I know that this may not be the case for everyone but for the MOST part, everyone I have encountered here seems to really try to be helpful.
< One very happy rooted EVO user

hey xhausx, is there some sort of error detection .log in your script? seems like a great tool, just if you have no idea where something messed up there will be problems.

Rooting, 3.30, and other problems

Ok. I just got my EVO Tuesday and while I cannot confirm for sure that i had 3.30 to begin with I am pretty sure I did.
Not knowing that the guide i was following to root the device was for an older version I attempted to root, and bricked the phone. I managed to restore the phone using "RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.29.651.5_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_CNV_release_150224_signed.exe" and I was back to normal....or so i thought
Now the camera/camcorder does not work. I am assuming that my phone was 3.30 and the 3.29.651 I am on now doesnt speak to the camera the same way. It was rumored the 3.30 builds had camera fixes so this makes sense.
Here are my actual questions, with number 1 being the biggest and most important to me at the moment:
1. How do i get back to the 3.30 version the phone came with? IS there a RUU similar to what i used for 3.29 to restore the phone? Where can i get this?
2. If i cant get back to 3.30, is there any way to fix the camera?
3. How can I successfully root 3.29.651? Ive tried every guide i have found here, unrevoked 3, and the one touch rooter programs, but none seem to work. They all fail applying the radio image with FAIL-PU
I appreciate any support and thanks in advance to everyone who can help

my hardware version is 0003
when i run unrevoked 3 it says rooting success, but here are the last few lines before it fails:
this was triumph
rebooting
when bootloader starts choose hboot usb ----- never goes to bootloader after this restart goes right to phone
i reboot it manually and choose hboot usb
running pre reboot sequence
waiting for reboot
internal error, couldnt find misc
or this happens
scanned a lot of files fast
rebooting
bootloader starts, choose hboot usb
waiting for hboot to be ready
running preboot sequence
waiting for reboot
running root
waiting for root
this was a triumph, reboots to andriod desktop while program says when bootloader starts choose hboot usb
reboot phone manually
waiting for hboot
communication with phone unexpectantly inturrupted, try again
I just replaced my busted EVO for a new one. Has the new 3.30 in it, hardware is 003. After rooting I lost camera/video due to the PC36IMG I had used while rooting. I installed Myns Warm 2.2 rev3 and got camera/video back, so far that's the only one I can get it on. Just for SnG's I changed out kernels to Kings, and sure enough lost camera and vid. Reflashed 2point2 rev3 with stock HTC kernel and back to working cam. Hopefully this will help. I haven't tried Sprint Lovers yet, but I would imagine it would work the same as Myn's. Any other rom I have run (MIUI _CM6.1) no camera again.

[q] easiest way to start with rooting.

Hello, I just got my Evo 4G today, and I'm interested in rooting the phone, it has the Android 2.2 OS on it, and I'm not new to this, I've jailbroken my iphone, and another phone, I can't remember the name.
There is plenty of guides on the wiki, but I'm uncertain which one I should be following due to there is many, could someone lead me to the simplest guide that I can use to root, and possibly flash the phone?
Thank you kindly!

What's your software number?
Okay so I've found out I'm on the 0004 Hardware rev, so whats the easist way to do this, and not break anything, and have access to a stock rom, (not a custom rom) but maybe one with root access enabled?
EDIT:
Software number: 3.30.651.3
Hardware Rev: 0004
EDIT 2: I kinda just wanna be able to delete the sprint **** off the phone like Nascar (SP?) and ****, and in order to do that you can only do it rooted so help please? lol

I don't think.... no I'm pretty sure that he can't use unrEVOked on this device. He has 004 hardware and the latest build which leads me to believe he has 2.02 hboot. Which won't work with unrEVOked. But I'm sure if he followed the post ↑ above mine he has it rooted already.

Do not use unrevoked, it will hose the new phones.
If you turn off your phone and hold vol down while turning it back on it will come up with a white screen and give a hBoot version at the top. That will determine what method you need to use. If it is 2.02 you'll have to use the method made up for that one, otherwise any of the other methods for Froyo should work fine.
Extract to a folder of your choice. I recommend the root of C:\ into a folder of your choice or on the desktop. Make sure you have the drivers installed for your phone (recommend: SDK Drivers, unrevoked hboot drivers) and USB debugging is on.
does anyone have the links to the drivers, and the unrevoked hboot drivers?
14) You Should be in the recovery menu now (green text screen). Do a backup by navigating the menu. Once thats done, follow the on screen instructions and reboot or flash a rom of your choice. Reboot. If you flashed a custom rom cool. If not no big deal eitherway. Do a PRL/Profile update while in the rom after the phone is done rebooting. Your Done.
do I NEED to flash a custom rom? or can I use the stock rom, while being rooted?
Bump, sorry for this..
is the unrevoked hboot drivers this?
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
also where is the SDK link?
I'm excited to do this, but I don't want to mess up my phone, since I just got it yesterday, lol.
Thanks..

Thanks for this. I found a lot of useful information.
I just rooted my gf's 004 white evo using http://www.wackynoodle.com/hboot202-s_off-V71.zip
from this thread. However, the instructions from illogos in the quotes on page 121 of the same thread would probably make things easier. Make sure to follow all the steps. I have Myn's current warm 2.2 rom running on her 004 evo now and it's buttery smooth.

Any updates regarding a new version of Unrevoked?

Title pretty much says it...was wondering if there are any updates as to when those of us with new(er) Evos can expect the new version of Unrevoked that will work on our phones
Thanks in advance

I saw a thread from joshua at unrevoked. They updated the unrevokedforever.zip file to include the newest radio version and said they are actively working on getting a new version of unrevoked in place that will work with the newest phones. I imagine it will take a little while as the newer phones have different data partitions than the older ones so they need to figure out some very complex methods to create a one click root this time.
If you feel the need to root now there is a thread with instructions on how to do it manually in this forum.

unrevoked forever is just a zip file you flash with a custom recovery installed that sets your phone to s-off....
unrevoked is a one step process that you use as an executable file that flashes the zip as well as giving you a custom recovery and adds superuser to your phone achieving full root.
well according to their twitter, it seems they are done with the evo 3.70 ota support, but their release may be delayed because of weather.

Ahhhh ok....thanks for clearing that up. So Unrevoked Forever is only good on a phone thats already rooted...so I'd need to root my phone with unrevoked first(whenever the new version is out) and then run unrevoked forever to keep any new OTAs from unrooting my phone.
I'm a LONG time blackberry user so all this is new to me...that's why I'm patiently waiting for the new unrevoked rather than going through the multi-step process

The one click unrevoked method will automatically run and install unrevoked forever. But there are times when people have noticed it fails to install successfully but are still rooted. So at that point, you can just download and flash unrevoked forever yourself to get S-OFF.

You shouldn't update ever. You're basically unrooting yourself then rooting again. It might be easier to just flash the new things that come with 3.7/whatever new OTA comes out in the future

Ok, here my Issue i have a EVO that never connected on the 4G network, the Tech said if the phone is rooted that caused to not connect 4G, so I finally took it to the store and got a new one last night does anyone knows which process to follow that wont jack my RSA or MAC Address on my EVO? or can I just use unrevoked to root my phone?
If you just got a new one you probably have hboot 2.02 or 2.10.
I have 2.10 so I used this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
I was worry about doing it @ first but if you follow the very detailed instructions you should be fine. Plus my 4g is not broke. Read everything first, even the detailed FAQ the OP included. I just couldn't wait for new unrevoked myself
According to the their Twitter account, a beta version of the new unrevoked is expected "tomorrow-ish." Since it looks like the new Unevoked will be available in the near future I'm just going to keep waiting for it rather than messing with the manual version.

Need a lot of help.

Long story short, my microphone broke on my old EVO, so I unrooted to take it back. I got a new one and tried to root it again used UnrEVOked3 again and it not work. Recovery does not work, there is no superuser options. On the hboot menu it does say S-OFF. I have tried to reuse the UnrEVOked3 and it will not recognize my device. I am just looking for some form of help so that I can get my phone rooted so I can get CM7.
Thanks
have you tried to dl superuser (the one from Chains) from the market?
Just did, still will not let me use root apps or anything, only difference is now I have the app.
Did you reboot?
Use this thread as a reference to completely unroot your phone, then retry unrEVOked...

Well, since you show S off, I'd just flash a PC36IMG of Amon Ra recovery, and then flash a new rom. I've seen people report of Unrevoked having a difficult time for whatever reason. I've never had a hiccup with it, but taht doesn't matter. Perhaps there was something on your computer causing you issues, such as HTC sync, PDAnet, an anti virus program, etc. Anyways, download this PC36IMG, put it on the root of your SD card. Shut your phone off, then boot to the bootloader. It'll ask you to update, and select vol up to say yes. Once it's done, you can boot into recovery and flash away. That should all work just fine, because you're S off already.
Try what he ^^^ said first...if that still fails, try what I said lol

Not sure what you're talking about. I think your info is outdated. Unrevoked works with all hardware and software versions for the Evo (3.70) included. I've used it more than a few times. Unrevoked was updated months ago, like right after Christmas.

yeah i did both...ive rooted my previous evos and never had a problem..this is the first time
i got my phone thru my insurance would they do something to it ...to make it not able to root it?
do you have something like wheres my droid on your phone, try uninstalling it, if you have qik uninstall updates, my first evo wouldnt root because of them
Reboot your phone, that way when it starts, nothing is running. Then run unrevoked after going through my instructions.
Make sure you download the newest version of unrevoked, I think its up to 3.2 or 3.3 now. Unrevoked 3 is out of date.

Never had that problem only thing I can think of that would of cause that would be whoever had that phone be4 you installed a hboot that wasn't rootable. Refurbs are always someone elses problem that ends up in your lap.
I got mine through them the first one was junk had lines down the screen when you turned it on then called em and they sent a brand new one next day. No problem rooting it.

im on the phone with them as we speak...going to tell them im not satisfy and that i want a new phone..so far its wroking lol
I don't know which version of unrevoked you're using, but make sure you're using the newest one as somebody else mentioned. If you're using the version that you used to root previously, uninstall it & install the newest version. If that doesn't work, there are other methods to root.

so did they replace the phone?
either way, i just want to put in a good word for an alternative to unrevoked: i had a *very* good experience with this universal auto root procedure by xhausx
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448
his procedure is pretty thorough and has specific instructions for various HW versions and HBOOT versions. it seems to me if you followed it to the letter you would very likely have success.
good luck!
