Is there a Register key that turns the keyboard lights off permanently on the HTC Tilt 2? I have PHM Register Editor installed and have found the following values under the BackLight key folder.
My problem is: the back light on the keyboard never goes off. It stays on continually even when the keyboard is not extended. The kicker is this: when i power the phone off, the keyboard back light "still" remain on and the phone gets vey warm unless i take the battery out to truely 'render the phone powerless'.
Anyone know the values to adjust if at all to these keys (or another?) that may turn the backlight off:
KeyLightAutoSensor 1(0X00001)
LightDetectOn 1(0X000001)
QKeyLedTimeout 1(0X000001)
Resolved: The next day, the keypad lights finally works properly, they go off when the keypad is closed and turn on when extended (HTC TIlt2). PLUS: the keyboard back light now turns off with the rest of the phone when i power it down. STILl do not know how the backlight started staying on despite the phone being turned off. Its a sign for sure that it's time for a new phone. I guess its Android time (i dont like windows 7 .. too locked down)

Hi, i have just got a new xda orbit and noticed that when the backlight goes off after a set period (30 secs), it seems to be still lit but only very slighty, so at night you still see the today screen etc. But if i press the power button then the display goes off. Is this correct ?
The reason im asking as i have been using an xda mini s for over a year and when the backlight times out the display is not visible at all in the dark. You have to press the power button to see the screen again.
Hope this makes sense
Yes, that is fine. The dim backlight will go out in time too.
MaskedMarauder is 100% right. It will go out eventually.
Ok thanks guys for the quick reply, just obsevered it last night and noticed it was different.
Thanks again...
I've tried posting about this before, but it never gets answered - i've got a mda III, and that dims to brightness 1 (from within the registry), but will never go out - regardless of what rom i've tried.
I've also noticed that i can force set it to 0 in the registry, but thats the overall screen brightness. None of the other reg keys (putting bkl1:, etc in the various power keys) seem to work.
Any one got any ideas or utils to sort this? I'd try to code this as there are some code samples which allow you to force this, but i've not got VS
Like you i've tried all the registry edits i can think off to no avail. I too have a wizard and find this irritating - plus backllight stays on when media player on etc.. No difference with wm6 so i guess it maybe a hardware issue. I use a small app to turn off display when apps are running and i want the display off.
I use backlight time of 30 secs and power of 1 minute - so overall similar to my wizards backlight time of 1 minute.
why not..
why not just pres the I/O button on the side to turn off the backlight when u don't want it on? obviosuly a bit of a hassle, but if u get into the habit of doing it, no problems
Because that puts the device into standby and turns everything else off too (except the phone etc.) So if your listening to music your plunged into silence.
I had an XDA2i (Alpine) previous to my Orbit and I actually prefer the dimmed screen.
A brief press on the 1/0 power button WILL make the device go into standby.... BUT...
press and HOLD the power button for LONGER than 2-3 seconds and it toggles the backlight on and off, whilst STILL keeping the device on!
hope this helps

Is anyone else having issues with Traveler in WM6?
I'm using an AT&T based Pandora Kitchens ROM and I'm getting the following problems:
1. Screen is off, I press the power button to turn it on. The screen turns on and I see my Today screen or whatever program I was using when I turned it off but that's it, I can't do anything else. Screen and buttons don't respond. Pressing the call end button results in the short beep that it normally sounds when you're on the Today screen and press it. But I have to soft reset to use my phone.
The same problem happened a few times when someone tried to call me. I was watching my phone when I tested this. Screen was off, I rang myself frlom another phone, the screen turns on and the phone symbol appears next to the signal icon in the top bar but after that the phone freezes as above. Soft reset needed.
2. Phone is charging using the wall adaptor. Green light is on. I pull the power cable out of the phone and press the power button, nothing happens. I had to soft reset.
3. Turn phone on, tap Start menu, wait about 15 seconds before Start menu appears!
Any ideas?
Each time the keyboard slides in or out the screen rotates.
Usually I slide the keyboard out to work with the device. After working I power off the device and slide the keyboard in.
When working again I slide the keyboard out and turn it on (usually it turns on after sliding automatically)
But, it seems that while the screen was off the device rotated anyhow! This means that it has to rotate again when I turn it on. I don't want this. When the device has to rotate, I will do it manually!
So, does anyone know how to disable all this automatically rotating?
I do not understand what you mean. I followed what you did and whenever i turned the screen back on the rotation was always correct as to whether i had the keyboard in or out.

Click to collapse
The problem sometimes is that rotating takes some time. In between the screen stays black. So it looks as if the device does not respond and therefor I press the power button once more. I now learned to perss some button on the keyboard - when the light goes on the device is on, but thinking what to do to rotate.
Seems that if I close the phone app, or slide the keyboard shut and then while the buttons are still lit I turn the phone off (standby), they'll stay lit indefinitely. If I turn the phone back on after the normal timeout period they'll go out immediately. But unless I do so they'll stay on.
Anyone else notice this on their phone? Is there a way to prevent it?
I'm on EnergyROM Leo build 21877 and I couldn't replicate this. I'd say it's definitely a bug, but unfortunately I don't know how you'd prevent this other than waiting for the buttons to turn off.
So if your front buttons are lit and you turn your phone off the button lights immediately go out?
Something else I found sort of odd is that the phone and end buttons are not colored green and red respectively. That's purely an aesthetics things, but uncommon at least in the phones I've owned.
The light thing is somewhat inconvenient. When taking a call I have to wait four or five seconds after hanging up before the lights go out and I can turn the phone off. If nothing else a registry edit that would allow the lights to extinguish quicker than that would be a handy workaround.
After 30 seconds or so the TP2 goes into standby, oddly mine doesn't anymore and I keep forgetting to turn off the screen and then running out of battery.
Any ideas?
Check your battery/backlight settings.
Hello,
i got the same effect.
I put the setting i.e. to 10 seconds screen off and 1 minute poweroff in accumode and 1 min. screen off and 1 min. poweroff. It wont be recognized by the phone. It stays on, with screen and device on.
At first I thougt it was some effect produced by the glight app i tested out, because i noticed this error not directly.
So i made a hardreset, but the effect is the same with the original htc rom without any mods, spl or some of this stuff.
any new ideas ?

Just a random thought:
If you're screen won't turn off, perhaps it thinks the screen is being tapped somewhere or a button is being pressed? If so, then you've got a hardware defect...
Ideas on testing this:
Create a new Note in drawing mode. See if any random spots/lines appear on screen. Try in both portrait and landscape.
Install the Rhodium Keyboard Controller. Add a new hardware key to map. If there's a key acting up, it should be picked up here.
