I recently updated from Fresh version 3.2 to 3.5.0.1.
The only issue I am having is with Swype. I did a search on the forum and found some help, but still have not completely fixed my issue.
It started with the force closing over and over. I uninstalled the application and the installer apks. Then, I used root explorer and found another Swype file (forgot the name), and deleted that manually. I reinstalled everything and then it worked without anymore FC's. Now, the problem I have is that the swyping feature stops working (a lot). I can peck the keys, but the swype keyboard is terrible for that. The only way to get it working again is to either restart the phone, or disable and re-enable the keyboard in settings. I have tried uninstalling the apks and wiping the Dalvik Cache, but the problem won't go away.
Anyone know how to fix this? I am pretty used to the swype keyboard and don't want to have to switch the rom.
Is there some other files I need to delete before I do a clean install again?
Thanks in advance.

i would save the apps and complete wipe/format, the reflash if the problem persists
I agree, I would delete the swype you installed. Do a complete wipe, then flash Fresh 3.5.0.1 again. It should work fine then.

Hi all,
here's how to use the new Swype beta v3.0 with awesome new features:
1. Backup your existing Swype version with Titanium Backup.
2. Uninstall your existing Swype with Titanium Backup.
3. Go to http://beta.swype.com/ , sign up and complete all the steps.
4. Complete!
That was easy
(Even though the Swype website states, that it isn't possible to use this new version on devices that came preinstalled with Swype...)
downloaded and working fine
But it only lasts 6 months before dying completely (I'm an old Archos original swype beta man) - so perhaps best to wait for "official" upgrade.
thank you js...i tried it before i read your post and somehow missed the warning about not installing...anyway thanks to your post, i tried it and it is AWESOME!! by the way, what was major c meaning when he said it would be only for 6 months? do it get disabled automatically? if so, can we go back to the old version cause we had saved it in titanium? kindly guide.
What changes it includes from the old swype??
Yeah if you read the beta sign up agreement biff it expires after 6 months. There will likely be an update before that happens though, so it's a rolling thing.
Is the update that much better than what we have on galaxy sii stock though? I.e. is it worth it?

OMG!! trust me guys...this is just awesome...no! really unbelievably A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!
the keyboard has been upgraded in the landscape version...the space bar is made a bit small so that it fits comfortably for the thumb (if need be)...the word replacement is excellent and its just like the android stock keyboard word suggestor (no pop up windows). the accuracy is wonderfull...i had started out only recently and i could do a fair but of speed too...all in all it is a must have
HOWEVER!! (isnt that always so)
i had to go back to the stock swype cause i have having problems...like it just stopped working...but when i had it it was a world of fun...its certainly worth a try and going back to the stock is very easy with titanium please do yourselves a favour and try it
I try to uninstall swype using Titanium Backup but I get "Cannot Mount" error. I am uninstalling it wrong by using the bottom option on the long hold?
Nevermind, just used Root Explorer and did it manually.

yes you did it wrong, just click apps once, quickly, then choose un-install.
The long press stuff is not needed.
The new Swype is AMAZING. I love that the suggestions do not pop up on the screen any more. There is just a suggestion bar like the default keyboard

This Keyboard is great, damn good find.
Thank you very much!
So I backed up, uninstalled and installed perfectly, no issues. When the phone is restarted, the licensing check fails because the SGS II uses some kind of quick boot which withholds information swype needs on boot. Tried wiping data for swype and installer, the only way to get it working again was to reinstall swype (not installer) let me know if anyone else has replicated this issue. From what I have read, this is the issue with a couple of samsung and htc phones.

I had the same problem.
So I ran the swype installer again, and it said it needed to be re-licensed. I did all it wanted, and it still didn't work.
So I then used titanium pro to uninstall the swype app (not the installer) and THEN used the installer to download and install swype AGAIN.
That worked.
But what was different now is that I turned my phone OFF, and restarted it - and swype is still licensed!
Villain rom 1.4, tegrak overclock.
Maybe using the reboot option stuffs up the license on some roms; try turning the phone OFF and restarting it.

Interesting point. Restart may use some kind of warm boot so it's quick?
Hi All,
Being a newb, I couldn't post in workshed's thread. I found a solution to the navigation issues (The cause is well over my head, so someone please forward to workshed for me??)....
After flashing to GSB-3.5 I noticed navigation would randomly freeze, then cause a full reboot, not just a force close usually after about 10 minutes. I waited for 3.6 assuming Shed would catch it and fix, but the problem persisted through 3.7-odex with gapps 0613.
Reading through his thread; other's were suggesting the issue wasn't in the rom but in the GAPPS package or possibly in the CM themes or supercharger script, or possibly the titanium backup-"restore apps and data settings"...
I religiously Nandbackup and Titanium back-up all system and App data (due to all the scary phone brick warnings)
Anyway whenever I flash a new Rom, I run titanium backup, nandbackup, delete the android secure folder, then reboot into recovery wipe the caches, flash the rom, then the recommended GAPPS, cach2cache (sp?), CM and android themes, then reboot, allow the GAPPS to full install from the market installer (some addition apps install since i have the backup apps to google account option checked in CM settings), then i download titanium backup (pro) and I only restore the user apps with data (never batch restore system data.) I selectively restore my user dictionary, bookmarks, wifi, bluetooth settings.
This time I restored all of the user apps without data and only selectively restored data to a couple of apps like cardiotrainer
I remembered someone suggesting to delete the maps data and cache in settings>applications>manage applications, so i did that, then uninstalled MAPS, then redownloaded from market. after the install I rebooted and drove home from work...
navigation was perfect, I restored a couple of app's data, then drove to work the next morning...perfect...when it hasn't gone for more than 10minutes in the last 3or4 weeks without restarting my eris. I'll continue to test for the next few days, but i believe the solution was to not restore user app data for maps and possibly other apps.
background:
I had tried wiping and flashing gsb 3.4., 3.5, 3.6, and 3.7 and both 0dexed and non odexed 3.6 and 3.7 with and without themes and with and without supercharger., while running supercharger I'd use agressive, ballanced, and multitasking settings. after reading the one comment about wiping the map cache and data then reinstall, i tried it too (but without the whole re-flash process... with the same affect full reboot in ~10minutes) after every iteration I'd reboot and drive to or from work ---2 attempts per day for a while... I realize it was a little naive to assume that it was something to do with my setup and not the code somewhere...
All that to say with every new flash i always restored user apps with data, but never restored system data like people have said, but this time i dawned on me not to restore any data and try it.... i drove home it worked, i restored the data i mentioned above, and drove to work it still worked.
Sorry for being so wordy, but i wanted to give the dev's enough to troubleshoot or at least note for people not to restore all data...
Thanks for all the great work guys I really appreciate all the effort!!!
*update- worked for a day then the same force close issue happened.
I also tried Telenav GPS-nav with the same force close results. I'm a newbie so maybe don't take much stock in this but I believe the issue is in the memory management setup either with CM7 or GSB3.4-3.7, to test the theory I flashed the macdroid's Everevolv port which only contains "bits" of cm7 and an older release of Google maps... if google maps works in the older release, i'll update to the newest release and try it using this Rom
Maps issue
*update 2- I flashed Macrodroid's ported Rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134907
He had pre-installed an older Maps version (be careful, it tried to auto-update right away) NAV worked perfectly for a couple longer trips... then I updated to the newest Gmaps and crash city!!!
Nice Rom!! less customization than GSB 3.7, but quick, no crashes, Macdroid included a flashable launcher pro (which I use), cache2cache works fine, I haven't tried supercharger but i will.
I'll try to find this maps version.apk to install on gsb 3.7 to see how it works... if it works fine I'll have to apologize personally to workshed and the CM team for having a smidgen of doubt. I totally dig the work those guys do!!
If you're still working on this there is a thread going here ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185340&page=5 ... about the Navigation problems. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a fix for it yet.
Thanks, I'll make sure to share anything that might be useful
Hi everyone!
This is my first post on XDA, even though I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now. Anyways, I recently upgraded Blazer ROM from version 3.5 to 3.6 (yesterday) and 3.7 (today).
On both 3.6 and 3.7, I've had a problem with my Swype. I use Swype Beta that I downloaded directly from their website. On Blazer v3.5, Swype worked perfectly. However, on the newer versions, when I try to use the keyboard, I get the message "Open of EnglishUS failed!".
I've tried a soft reset and nothing happened. If I revert back to v3.5 (which I have a Nandroid back-up of), the keyboard starts working again.
Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?
P.S. It would probably be better for me to post this on the actual Blazer thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363071) but I don't have enough posts to post in the Dev section. Can anyone highlight this to PhantomHacker please? Thanks .
P.P.S. I searched and saw that some other people have had this problem in the past with Swype. However, I don't know of anyone having this problem with the E4GT or this version of Swype Beta.
I hope you all can help. Thank you very much!
did you use titanium backup to back up all user apps and system data? If so, use it to re-install swype. Thats what I do

Yeah, I still have the Swype Installer on my phone and have tried using Titanium Backup to delete Swype and reinstall it. Nothing changes though
Have you tried fully uninstalling it?
You could try updating it, follow this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEmnfY6ayqc
qbking77 is the best for anything you might come across with your Epic Touch.
As far as I know, I have the latest version. But anyway, I resolved the problem. I kept uninstalling and reinstalling using Titanium Backup like three times and then it worked the third time O_O. I also deleted all traces of Swype off my phone.
Not really sure why it worked just that one time, but fixed. Thanks
Hi, everyone; adding to the flood of questions...
I've been having some issues after a reboot lately:
- a couple of my apps will disappear. Namely Line Runner and the Merriam Webster Dictionary. I did some searching on this earlier and people who have had similar problems said it was due to the apps being installed on SD. I moved them to the phone, which seemed to solve the problem, but:
- rebooting also seems to make me lose my latest Google Search and Maps updates. The market will prompt me to update these. These apps are already on the phone, so no clue how to fix that one. But the most annoying thing is:
- after reboot, several of my game apps will force close when I try to open them. It seems like it's the more processor-intense ones: Pew Pew, Osmos, Anomaly, World of Goo. I thought maybe it was because of the undervolting/underclocking settings I have (from GideonX), but the apps work fine (running quite smoothly) after I install them, as long as I don't reboot. As soon as I reboot, if I try to open them again I get FC. If I uninstall then reinstall, they run fine again.
Any ideas? I'm running Juggernaut 4.1 with faux's 009u kernel and, as I said above, Gideon's script. I tried one reboot back to faux's stock clock/voltage settings, but I still got FCs on the apps. Granted, I didn't try it again or give it time to settle in or anything.
Any thoughts, folks? Thanks!
fix permissions? fresh wipe and install? clear cache? fiddle around
Ah, forgot to mention. Tried all of the above (fix permissions, clear cache, reflashed ROM, even recovered to my pre-custom ROM backup and reflashed from there).
I did some more testing on this, and I think I've narrowed down the problem. I flashed back to stock voltage/clock settings under faux's kernel, then reinstalled one of the apps I had issues with (Osmos). Upon reboot it still ran okay. So it seems I won't get force closes after reboot IF the app was installed under stock settings.
Does anyone know why undervolting and/or underclocking would cause apps to force close only after reboot?
EDIT:
Well, never mind. I did some more testing, and what I thought worked last time didn't work again. Must have just gotten lucky that time. Sigh.
Try wiping your phone with darksides super wipe and clean flash a rom. Check the md5 sums to make sure youre not installing a bad download

Oh, wow, didn't even know about the existence of that tool. Will definitely give that a try when I have some free time this weekend. Hopefully I can report back with positive news.
Thanks!
Don't want to count my chickens, but using super wipe seems to have done the trick so far! Using super wipe before flashing Jugg 5.0 seems to have gotten rid of my problem of FC apps.
Thanks again!
Amazingly, there are no search results for my issue, that I can find.
Anytime I go to use Swype, it pops up with a message that says it will not work until I update it. It's referring to the system update, however I'm running RandomRom EI22. I've also gotten the annoying system update message, even after freezing it in Terminal and deleting the file in Titanium. I've even let it try and update, let it fail, go into recovery and wipe cache. My Swype just won't work.
Any ideas?
Here is the instruction from RandomKing:
1. First, using a file explorer delete the following files:
- /system/app/Swype.apk
- /system/lib/libswypecorexxxxx.so [the x's stand in for the exact number]
2. Next, head here to download the installer.
3. The rest is pretty self explanatory.

Make sure you register to get access.
PS: Just got message from swype that their system is down....guess they are getting flooded with requests.
Remove Swype with root explorer and go to Swype's website on download their newest beta.

Nevermind. Working now. Good luck.
Does anyone know if the swipe broke on stock?
Edit: Tested a stock EL30 Epic and swype still does work. Wonder why it broke on custom roms.
Most custom roms broke because these roms were running with beta swypes. Stock had older production version, I assume.
Only worked for a couple of days
Installed the new beta and it worked for 2 days. Now all the beta says is "please try again" every time I try and Skype. It is like before I installed the beta. If anyone can help that would be great.
installed new swype - but it force closes
I am facing the same issue but on my AT&T SGS2 running ICS'd out ROM.. All it says is new update available. please update to continue. I tried all steps to uninstall the current one (using root explorer) and install fresh from beta.swype.com but to no avail.. the new swype force closes.. Any solutions?
Edit:
FIX:
This is what worked for me::
1. Uninstall the newly installed swype beta (which caused force closes) via manage applications.
2. Delete (or move or rename) the following file: /data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@[email protected]
3. Restart your phone and go to beta.swype.com and repeat the instructions to install swype beta.
Worked for me =)

I had the same issue. I ended up just completely removing Swype through the phone and reinstalling it. It's working flawlessly now for days.
The only downside is losing your personal dictionary. Not much of a big deal really.

You have to delete its .lib file also not just the apk. And before you delete it id also go into the app manager in settings and delete the data and cache and what not from swype
