Just bought Defy, what to do ? - Defy General

So, I bought it about 2 weeks but since I went on a vacation I didn't bothered to mess around much with it, but now that I'm back my friend directed me to this forum and I'm pretty excited with all the possibilities. the problem is that's a bit overwhelming, I don't know where to start, I started reading, and following the instructions, on this topic but came to a stop after the 3rd step since I have no idea what ROM the stock version uses:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893291
I'm just gonna dump some of the info that I found out on the settings page of the phone, hopefully that will help:
System Version: Blur_Version 6.14.5.MB525.AmericaMovil.en.BR
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Version Number: JORLA_U3_6.14.5

Have fun!!

Where do I get the 2.34 ROM ? I see it mentioned everywhere but there's no guide to get, and install, it.
Ok, dumb me, now I noticed the info on the right with the 2.34.1
Just another question, what is that version number related to ? Is that the Android version ?

[Q] Confused noob seeks enlightenment

Hi there,
I have a Motorola Defy on Vodafone UK, that has just had the Vodafone Froyo update. I have tried to find an answer to my question, but no joy.
I would like to get rid of the Vodafone software and use the UK retail version, as then my phone would work as advertised. Unfortunately I get confused by all the different software identifiers on my phone, and wondered if someone would be kind enough to explain what bits could/should be updated.
When I look at Settings/About Phone I see the following
System Version: Details removed to allow posting
Firmware version: 2.2.2
Baseband Version: EPU93_U_00.59.02
Kernel Version: Details removed to allow posting
BPflex version: UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R
APflex version: GAS_EMEA_USAJRDNFRYOVFGB_P021
I had to remove the software file identifiers to be able to post this, but the phone has just had the latest Vodafone Froyo update applied. Hopefully someone will still be able to help by explaining what the titles mean.
I have successfully rooted my phone with SuperOneClick, but am just trying to get a bit more more understanding before I do anything stupid. I quite like the idea of CM7, but think that may be a bit advanced for me, so will perhaps stick with the UK retail Motorola Froyo once I am sure I know what I'm doing.
Thanks
As you have rooted it yet you could delete app with titanium backup from the market.
I can say i have installed custom roms on my defy a few days after i got it, just follow the faq and how to post and you won't damage anything.
Btw, if something goes wrong you'll find help on this forum anyway...

Confused - Do I Have All This Right???

I have spent a few hours reading the forums and getting understand things, but one never knows if one really understand things until one summarizes it themselves and asks others to confirm it. So, my situation and summary are below. Do I understand???
I live in South Korea and got the MB525. I like it very much, but I have SK Mobile. The last straw came when they installed even more stuff on my phone (like Korean social network programmes) without my permission, using some form of auto-update even though I had that disabled, and now will not even let me turn off auto update on those programmes. Also had a problem on a trip to Malaysia where the Korean emergency number (119) was the customer service number for Maxis - hence calling customer service got me the fire department!! I am just tired of having so many junk programmes on my phone and not having real control over the phone.
The phone runs 2.1-update1 and I would like to instal a generic version of 2.2 or 2.3 (that is cy7, an unofficial version of 2.3 right). I would like a version that is not country specific, but in English. By doing all this I hope to be able to have complete control over my phone, not have troubles using it internationally (sim is already unlocked but things like emergency numbers being programmed in), and be able to install and uninstall any programmes. I hope that by doing this SK Mobile will not be able to install any of their own software and that I can uninstall anything I do not like. I do not think I need moto-blur (do I???), so a version without that is better, I think.
While new to phone technology, I am good with computers and have my own web site, so I think I have the ability to do the upgrade per the 'All in one Defy Beginners guide' (Serious thanks for that). I'm sure I can figure out how to flash it properly, so no worries there.
My first question is what version/package would others recommend so that I have an English version that works internationally / meets my requirements. My second question is do I understand thing right above and am I on track, and my third question is what am I not thinking of?
Thanks a lot, and sorry for such a long post but too much is new all at once.

haha... yes CM7.1/MIUI or pretty much the other roms wont give you any trouble using it internationally, and yes if you install cm7.1 they(SK mobile) wont be able to 'update' your phone... and yes just follow the guides carefully and your good to go... Good Luck
Since your phone is for SK, then I'm sure that most of the ROMs in here won't have no problem with your Defy.
I suggest CM7 for the function, and MIUI for the theme lovers.
DeBlur is absolutely, since that function just make troubles instead of goodies. Emergency Calling ? Um... not tried editting yet.
OK, thanks for the help above
But, next question. My phone runs 2.1 - update 1, but is I think Eclair version. I bought it in Dec, 2010. I have decided my first step is to upgrade to 2.2 and see how that goes.
But from the how to guide the bit below is very confusing:
CG Version 2: SBF 2.21 / 2.34 / Chinese (Éclair)
CG Version 3: SBF 2.51 (Éclair)
CG Version 4: SBF 3.4.2 (Froyo)
CG Version 5: SBF 4.5.0 / 4.5.1 (Gingerbread)
How do I relate version numbers listed on my phone (2.1) to the list above? I assume I want 3.4.2 but how can I understand version numbers so i do not make a mistake?
As my goal is to upgrade to a version that I can downgrade to 2.1 if needed for warranty reasons, I need a fixed SBF for Froyo. Can anyone give me a specific link to such a SBF version?
Thanks and sorry for all the questions. The learning curve is a bit steep.

Why don't you upgrade from official site.....
can you provide link to the guide you mentioned...
Root your phone (using superoneclick), install 2nd init, after that just flash CM7.1, no need to worry about sbf for CM7, although there is a recommended base ROM, im using it just fine flashing it over my original rom... dont know about others though...

Brick or not brick? Help please T_T

Hello! I am sorry to get all of you into this mess with me just with my first thread. I´ll explain my current problem...
I was on CM 7.1, wanted to install Defy+ rom from Walter79, i did everything as the post explains but after installing fixed sbf, the phone just stays on M logo, make some intent to pass it and gives me the bootloader screen with this error err:a5, 70, 00, 00 ,2F... If someone can help me, please, i´ll appreciate a lot. Thanks from Argentina.
You will call me newbie, and you´ll be right xD.
Are you sure you flashed the fixed sbf? When did you get this error? After flashing a froyo rom? If yes, you flashed the full sbf.
Well, thank you for your reply! Lucky as smart, i try to find my original SBF, i went back to Froyo and then i did it again but directly from there...i choose again a new Defy rom with buttonfix from the Walter79´s folder (from do not which uploader) and try it again. But when i use the same fixed-sbf, i got stuck on the same loop...i flashed it again but with the fixed-sbf for the SOC green camera. It worked and now i am done.

Well, thanks for your confidence, i do not know a lot, but i am learning on the middle, i have read a lot and i feel able to help you, nobody helped me because i have made stupid questions :S...
Well, you said you want to update your Eclair to a new fresh platform ...but how high do you want to go? Do you know about the capabilities of the higher android versions? Plus...what do you want? I went from official 2.2 to CM7.1 wasn´t bad, it were very stable and fluid, a lot of customizations but non BLUR...so i decided to keep the most original GB as i can. So now i am on the Defy+ some some 1321.
I guess that first at all, if you want to go upgrade you should taste 2.2 anyways to go high.
Check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537 and when you decide to go, i will help you if you want .
first root your defy, install 2nd init then chose which rom is better for you taste you may tray CM7 or CM9 or walters79 roms if you like blur stuff.
read this thread it may help you a lot!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982

if you install any CM7 or CM9 try to use base band switcher to get you cell on the right GSM network .
if you install any other rom you can edit the APN on your cell MENU>SETTINGS>WIRELESS & NETWORKS>MOBILE NETWORKS>ACCESS PIONT NAMES >MENU>NEW APN
Search on google the APN for your service provider.
if it help you hit the thanks at the end .
Install the 5/03/2012 quraks versión of CM 9 it comes with baseband switcher (on advanced settings) select argentina 900 2100 or something like that and then Google your Internet provider Apn and configure them (the last message shows how to do that )and you are done
Enviado desde mi MB525 usando Tapatalk
Like that guy said, the problem is very common if you upgrade your firmware, if you got a network problem, install Defy_Baseband Switcher and choose the one for your country. Unless you live in a country not included on it, what would be a mess but i trust that you can do it.
thanks guys for every things i'm now:
- Motorola defy
- CM7 "latest nightly" (04/03/2012) firmware 2.3.7
<works 100% no bugs for me>

sugestion for a thread: rooting succes stories Defy+

This is not a question but a suggestion for a new to start thread and making it sticky.
The problem:
Defy+ rooting
After much research and attempts I still did not succeed in rooting my device and it seems that I'm not alone.
These are the details of my Defy+:
System version 45.0.2310.MB526.retail.en.DE
Model number:MB526
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version EPU93_U_00.60.03
kERNEL VERSION: [email protected]#1
Build number:4.5.1-134_DFP-231
Boot loader version: 09.10
I believe the Boot Loader version is the problem, all fixes seem to be made for lower BL numbers, but correct me if I'm wrong.
My suggestion: starting a sticky thread with succes storys of how you rooted your Defy+.
included in every post would be the phone details and the tools/procedures used. Extra info could be what you did after rooting succesfully: new sbf file, what mods, etc.
It would make live easier for all Noobs like myself. Instead of crawling through the enormous pile of info you go straight to the succesful endresult.

The exploits/scripts work all the same for versions til BL6.
For BL7 unfortunately the only method till now is to flash the rooted SBF. (method= Here.)
While a sticky thread sounds good, but I guess a wiki guide would be much better.
Hi neo.ank,
Wiki or sticky, for me its not important. But in this way we can learn much more & quicker than plowing through all these threads.
But your remark is most helpful to me.
Am I correct in my understanding that I can flash another sbf using Motorola's
RSDlite (without root access) and then, with the new suitable .sfb root my phone?
Like I stated before: I'm not hindered by any knowledge on the subject...

Yes.! You got it right..use the SBF's mentioned in the rooting thread.
To get the idea 'bout flashing, sbf's etc. Go through

Its for defy but the flashing and stuff is same.

Tab S 10.5 T807A- Available Root Methods?

T807A (ATT) Questions
Howdy All,
I've successfully rooted a Nook Color and Nook HD in the past, but it has been a while and my skills are rusty. Just yesterday I purchased a used Tab S 10.5 16GB T807A (AT&T) for 200 bucks from a girl on BooKoo. It is in prestine condition and still has the plastic stuff you peel off the back and sides. Anyway.... I have a few questions.
I've tried my best to read up on all the info on this forum and there are so many bits of information in so many different places its hard for me to wrap my head around it so I figured I'd ask to see if there is a one-stop, step-by-step set of instructions for rooting this bad boy.
1. Is it possible to root the T807A? (Older posts say no, but newer posts make it seem possible)
2. If I am able to root it, do I lose the ability to use the broadband data? (Will the ATT network try to update it thus effecting my root access)?
3. It looked like from some of the posts I read, someone was looking for someone with a T807A in order to get a clean back up of the original software from the device. If I can be of assistance, please let me know how to upload what you need from my completely stock device.
Here are the current specs:
Android Version - 4.4.2
Baseband Version - T807AUCU1ANJ5
Kernel Version - 3.4.39-2974855 / [email protected] #1 / Sat Oct 11 14:12:56 KST 2014
My apologies if all this info has been disucssed before, I tried my best to read up and get the info I needed without asking questions.

Oh, and I am also curious if I need to update or downgrade to anything before I try to root...
