[Q] FROYO DK28 ***5s*** baseband version? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have an epic with froyo baseband version 5s on it? I'm thinking about using the update.zip method to get it on my epic. Could you provide a download link? My mother's epic was trying to get froyo with baseband version 4s off her phone and the people AT SPRINT gave her baseband version 5s still froyo. I would appreciate it I need more internal storage space asap on my epic.

This should not nd in this section as you are not developing anything. You should search and you would find your awnser. All the dk28 build we have will work on any hardware version

oh my, you're gonna get super flamed for this. ROM is preference. There are lots of great ones. Read the stickies for root, don't accept any OTA updates..if you update OTA the 2.3 kiss rooting goodbye..Read! Then read some more. This is the friendliest advice you are going to get from this thread you started..I promise.
Go with unrevoked. Check out YouTube. There are many great walk throughs of it there. Just make sure video is for latest unrevoked (think its 3.2) !!watch full video a few times b4 u attempt it 2 get familiar with what's gonna happen. U can always ruin back. Do it on a windows PC is my advice.

If nothing else, you could go back to stock to regain phone functionality.

Having same problem as the op, also flashed to stock which did not do anything. My baseband is "unknown," if anyone has a solution to this please let us know. Thank you very much.
just odin to stok
Where did u get that rom from?

Oops, sounds like you flashed a GSM ROM. Do you have usb support to Odin a stock ROM?

This is correct. The rom you flashed is for GSM phones and not the Epic Touch. Search this forum and you'll find some solutions...which involve having to flash new radios as well as new stock kernel. Flashing just a stock kernel/rom isn't going to help you at this point...you'll need to restore the CDMA radios as well

this will completely restore your system

than this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
Yeah from the above post and from the OP's post it sounds like you are trying to use the root method for the Epic 4G which is NOT the Touch version at all. You are trying to root a E4GT with the Epic with a hardware keyboard if you are using the root method you are linking.
i have epic 4g its not touch. what should i do .everytime i use that method its stucks on power up screen.. the links u give will lead me to gingerbread 2.3.x ???
actuly new to android help me pls.
Honestly, not to be mean, but you probably should not be rooting or flashing anything until you read more. You can and will ruin your phone. Also, you are in the Epic 4G Touch which is the Sprint Galaxy S 2. You need to go into the Epic 4G which is the Sprint Galaxy S which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=713
DO NOT USE THE FILES THE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE LINKED YOU TO!!!!!!!!!!! They thought since you posted in this subforum, that you had our phone. Go to the subforums I linked you to and ask there. Also, READ, READ, READ and then READ some more. Especially if you don't want to turn your phone into an expensive paper weight.
Please take ^^^^^^ his advice and stop doing this. You.need to do alot of reading.

[Q] Info on EL29, EH17, SRF12, & what they mean

Not sure what these numbers and letters mean....
Mine sais EL29, so i only flashed the ROM (Blazer ROM 4.0) that had all the same information as my phone displayed under "About Phone"....
This page http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=716 has a list of ROMs, a few of which i would like to use. Specifically the new ICS leaks (Hurry up SPRINT, release the ICS ALREADY!!)...
My question is... is the "EL29" "EH17" "SRF12" and all those others the firmware versions? Modem Versions? What are these? If a ROM specifies this information anywhere, will i have to upgrade or downgrade to the appropriate files (Or firmware) before flashing the ROM? I have no idea what these are or what they mean.
From what i've read and picked up, i know that some of these things will have to be done through ODIN and I think I read that some other things can be done through CWM, like flashing the ROM itself.
I just need a little more information on how flash ROMs properly concerning what needs to be done BEFORE you flash a new one
Things I already know:
1.) Must install a ROM compatible with your phone (DUH)
2.) Sometimes you gotta use ODIN (Is this only for root? Or do you use this to upgrade/downgrade modem firmware or something, too ?)
Also, what other file exensions should I be familiar with and what do they do? I just want to be able to modify my phone with no problems and a collection of links and bookmarks for me to pull it off. I'm not trying to be a programmer (yet =)
Any links specific to my questions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

your looking for the epic touch this is the one with the keyboard.
But to answer your questions those are firmware versions that the ROM's are based on for our phone anyways.

Well, we can still help...
EL29:
E = 2011
L = 12
29 = 29
So if this is a ROM, the base version was built on December 29, 2011 (apparently samsung employees worked the holidays...). If this is the modem version, guess what, the modem was built on December 29, 2011.
So to recap, the first letter is for the year, the second for the month and the last two for the day.
SRF1.2 = Syndicate ROM Frozen. This is an older ROM, based off of EC05 (March 5, 2011), and by the name, Android 2.2 (Frozen Yogurt). I don't know if there was an SRF for the Epic touch.

I already petitioned the mods and the big mods refused. That is why Jay posted the Non-Touch stickies but the problem with that is accessing with an app you don't see the stickies unless you click on that subject. Viewing from a PC also has a picture of our phone with keyboard open.

[Q] Help with flashing modem on att note 2

Last month I rooted my att note 2 and installed Twrp and the jedi X 13 rom. I noticed today that my wife's note 2 on the stock att rom has much faster data speeds. So I decided to check the baseband version and found she was on mca4 while I'm still on ucalk7. I'm almost positive that this is the reason my data speeds are slower but would like to know for sure. And if so, can I just flash the modem and ril file without touching the custom rom? And also can you point me to the proper files to flash?
Thanks,
Wade
We cannot help you here. Contact a mod to move this post to att note 2 forums. This is the sprint note 2 forums. We are cdma. Sorry.

Solved
1st, I wanna thank the mod for moving this to the right place. I had a brain fart yesterday and posted it in the Sprint forums. So thank you!!
2nd, I solved the problem with my data speeds and it had nothing to do with the modem. At&t had my phone identified on their network as a iphone 3gs somehow, so I was never on the LTE network and therefore wasn't getting the LTE data speeds.
However, through troubleshooting this I was able to find the information needed to update my baseband to the newest one without any problems and can confirm the Jedi X 13 rom works great on an LTE network in case anyone was wondering.
I love this forum and have learned a lot through reading and wanna thank everyone for all the good work!!
Thanks,
Wade
Great job Wade!

Hi guys,
I tried to figure this all out. I am on a Samsung Note 3 - i317 - Android 4.1.2 - UCAMC3.
I am in Germany from time to time and need to unlock it. I actually talked to AT&T many times, but those morons are not able to unlock it (seriously!!)! The last person I talked to said: "Why don't you just unlock it yourself, there is plenty of help on the internet". So I take that as a permission to root and flash.
However, I rooted it yesterday and I read that to unlock it I need the J3 modem. Now my question is, can I just flash the J3 modem, unlock it and then flash back to UCAM3 / do the latest OTA update afterwards? I have TWRP on the phone.
Is there anything else I need to watch out for? Please give me hints if I am on the right track.
Thanks guys!!
[EDIT] OK, so I just did it! I flashed the J2 Modem and tried the unlock. It worked! Just flashed back my CAMC3 Modem and everything is great. Thanks to those who work hard on getting all this stuff lined up for us dummies!!!
BTW your not on a note 3 lol

Your rooted phone won't get stock updates.
Hi guys,
HAHA ... yeah, of course I meant Note2 ... :silly:
Thanks for the hint that it won't get stock updates. I actually just found that out because I tried to install the OTA update.
So one last question for now:
I just downloaded the newest H3 modem and flashed it with TWRP. My system info now shows:
Baseband version: I317UCAMH3
Build number JZO54K.I317UCAMC3
Is it normal that build and baseband differ? I saw a screenshot somewhere else and the build had the CAMH3 version as well. Did I do something wrong or is that normal?
Thanks guys for all your help!! :good:
Your fine. Build is rom related not modem man.
Sent from my Note 2 using Tapatalk 4
Baseband and firmware generally read the same. ..unless you flash a different setup. ..
Modem or firmware separately from one another. .
The device won't care unless they are not compatible code. ..
Simply verify the files to make sure they are for this device and your good. ..
And of course you should always read the instructions for the files just in case the developer requirements changed for some reason. ..g

you re fine! Baseband has nothign to do with your build number. Build number generally means what rom base you are on. you re good to go. I think everyone is rocking the H3 modem right now and speeds vary depending where you are geographically but the WIFI data speeds are a little faster.
Thanks guys for the feedback!!
It's working great. Really seems to be much faster on WIFI. I didn't do speedtests, but it just feels faster.
