Hey Guys,
I am sorry for the awkward subject line for the thread, but I was not sure what else to say .
So here is my quick question...
I rooted my DInc (AMOLED) using Unrevoked3, from the original Eclair build that the phones shipped with.
Since the root, I have installed various custom ROMs, but certain issues are not understandable for me:
1. For the past good week, I have been trying to update the text file that is usually used to update the Power Settings Mod in our notification bars. For the life of me, on SkyRaider, Carbon Fusion, and now an EVO port, I have NOT been able to make a simple change to the text file. I used tools like the Root Explorer, ES File Explorer, and even the SUManager, nothing stuck, and every time, nothing changed in the ROMs, on reboot, the file was intact, the way it was, prior to the edit.
2. MetaMorph mods are not working. She go in a strange screen off, screen on loop, with the phone still on (I can tell because the soft buttons are still lit up and the notification LED is working). This is broken up with yanking the battery, and rebooting, again, the phone remains unchanged.
3. Today, I finally realized that I couldn't even make a SIMPLE copy/move action on my system folders. I wanted to move some bloatware from the apps folder, but every time, nothing would be moved, to and from the system partition. Again, tried with Root Explorer, ES Explorer, and SUManager.
Now, I made sure to change permissions on the folders when making these changes, it did not help.
I even used Spare Parts to "Fix Permissions" same outcome.
I have Super User in my phone, and when programs that require Root access launch, a notification pops, saying "App X has been given super user permissions." Despite all of this, I am unable to alter my system directories.
I am coming from EVO, and I NEVER had such issues. Can someone please help me figure out what could be the problem here? I would really appreciate ANY help at this point. Thank you for reading and thanks in advance for your answers.
Go into the superuser app and verify that they all actually have root access. Maybe you hit no accidentally? It sounds weird but check that, that was a reason SetCPU wasn't working for me, i accidentally hit no (to SU access) without knowing.
Are you changing the directory from R/O to R/W with root explorer?
Thanks for the responses guys!
The answer to both your questions is: Yes.
Yes, I checked Super User, everything that I am using to move files has Super User permissions.
Yes, I changed the file systems to write access as well.
One thought that comes to mind is that... when I rooted with Unrevoked3, I did NOT disable my security. I believe this means that I have S-ON. This I confirmed with the Vol Down + Power button power cycle.
Do you guys think this is the issue? If so, can someone tell me exactly what I need to back up, and go through, to get to exactly this place (Custom ROM and Clockwork Recovery Mod), with S-Off?
Please forgive my ignorance, but I could really use some help here. Also, what are the cons of having S-Off, and is it reverseable, for Warranty purposes?
Thank you again to everyone!

I'm not sure about the problem, but there really aren't any cons with s-off. Its just like flashing. To reverse it, you just flash a file in the bootloader.
Here is all the info about it - http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever

i seen before when i rooted my phone that it was not possible to unroot it. well having a problem and an over heating issue i took my phone into my step dads store where he is a technician and let him try the new software they were issued after the 2.2 update. after an hour 1/2 of him messing with it, he finally found a way to remove the root. so not sure if anyone has tried or not, but it is possible. but i am not sure if you can just walk into a sprint store with your rooted phone and have them remove it. now i am back to fully factory setting, sprint start up screen etc..
Yes its possible, unrooted before taking mine to Sprint. Was quite easy. Think I had some temperature issue too, seemed like it had to be the issue. All is resolved now, just gotta go back and unleash the power all over again.

not sure which root method I used...
Dear Bender,
Thanks for your help, but being a newby I am not sure which method i used for rooting my evo4g. I tried several different methods because I didn't think it would work. I just found out that my phone was indeed rooted because I saw the "superuser permission" app. Any suggestions on which method I may have rooted? I tried simple root, unrevoked. Thanks again for any help.

Yikes! Just making sure you got DOUBLE ROOT ACCESS?!!
OK...Here's what we are going to do:
***BE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE A PC36IMG.ZIP FILE ON THE ROOT OF YOUR SD CARD****
1. Turn off EVO
2. Hold VOLUME DOWN button and turn back on EVO
There should be an HBOOT VERSION on the second line at the top of the white screen.
Is it HBOOT - 0.76.xxxx or 0.79.xxxx ???
If it is 0.76 you rooted with SimpleRoot after downgrading to 2.1
If it is 0.79 you rooted with unRevoked
You should be good to follow the tutorial on how to unroot now! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Haha Double root Newbies got to make sure

HBOOT 0.92??? Do you have a Droid Incredible or an EVO?
Either way - You should proceed to unroot per the unRevoked instructions in the link I shared before as the .92? (maybe .93?) bootloader would still be intact with the UR root method.
BE SURE you have an EVO before proceeding!
Thanks Bender.
I will give that a try.
So there is no way to get wifi tether to work after froyo 2.2? I seem to have wifi for android and I am able to connect to it, but no internet
with the iphone jailbreak was easy and I was able to use miwi for free tethering and even though I really like the Evo, I am missing the unlimited wifi tethering.
It just don't see a big benefit to root.....yet, but I am still learning

I use WiFi tether and I'm on a rooted update 3.29 ROM.
Tons of benefits to rooting though! Read up and let me know if u have any questions.
Bender,
I am learning a buttload trying to figure this out. I am now able to wifi tether. Now I am trying to just update to most recent update. I downloaded the rooted file, but don't know how to move it to the sd card so I can use rom manager to open the zip file. I m sure its easy to move to sd card but not seeing how to do that. Which method did you use to apply the update? I have the evo. Thanks for any advice.
If you downloaded on your computer:
Connect the evo to the computer via USB, and mount as DISK DRIVE.
Once connected you will have a prompt come up, choose the view contents of folder option - I think 2nd to last from bottom. This is the ROOT OF YOUR SD CARD!
Place the file for the ROM in this folder. Then unmount disk drive by selecting CHARGE ONLY on the EVO.
Backup any apps, contacts, SMS messages before flashing as I believe this particular update will clear all user data.
PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP before going any further in RECOVERY!
Better safe than sorry!
When complete WIPE CACHE and DALVIK CACHE ( I usually do 2x each)
THEN while still in RECOVERY choose FLASH ZIP FROM SD, and choose your ROM zip file.
Let it do it's thing and enjoy your updated EVO!
almost there
Hey Bender it works! Thanks!
Just one more thing though. I used rom manager to install from sd card-of course I backed it up as well. Since now that everything was erased, I wanted to redownload the rom manager to "reinstall" the backed up programs but I get a message that I do not have enough storage space to install?
Thanks,

Oh boy! To reinstall your previously backed up programs you would have had to backup the apps to a B/U app like - TITANIUM, MYBACKUP, or ASTRO.
Did you do this?
If not.... You may have to re-download through the market!
As far as storage space check this really quick:
Menu>Settings>SD&Phone Storage - Let me know the AVAILABLE SPACE under INTERNAL PHONE STORAGE.
Frozen
Well where do i start. The storage problem went away so I redownloaded rom manager and tried to restore from back up, but now its frozen in the htc EVO 4g screen. I am seeing the sprint 4G screen come up any suggestions? I am able to get to the HBOOT screen but don't know what to do from there.
feel like an ass.
Thanks and I will be donating once I get this situated
OK!
Have you made a NANDROID BACKUP before the new errors???
I HOPE YES!
Once in the bootloader select recovery(I believe you said you are using CLKWK):
(USE VOLUME UP DOWN TO SELECT and POWER BUTTON TO EXECUTE)
Once recovery loads select BACKUP/RESTORE
Then select NAND RESTORE
Then you should see HTxxxxxxxx - that is your device - select by hitting POWER
Then select your latest NANDROID - should be BDSxxxxxxx - select by hitting power
then press power again to confirm the selection and let it do it's thing!
Once done, hit me up again and let me know where your EVO is at, ROM info ETC... and let me know what you are wanting to acheive.
THANKS!
hey, bender is there any way I can contact you? I really am stumped.
I see some "images" and I select it and i still get to htc evo 4g screen but no sprint logo.
thanks
Yikes!
Unfortunately I am at work right now, and should be working!
Were you able to boot into RECOVERY???
Thanks Bender!
That did the trick! I will me donating asap

There are plenty of people around here that like to help, but asking to have the entire android guide spelled out for ya is a bit much. Go search and read up on what you can understand, then read a little further. When it starts to get confusing again, come back and ask a specific question or two. You will get a lot more help that way.
That s why I m asking! I did look it up, and it s confusing

You gotta look up the tutorials. Flashing means moving something to your SD card and installing it.
unrevoked is kinda advanced since ur brand new..search on youtube for how to root evo 4g
swyped htc supersonic
stay stock
Google the basics . Most people don't have time to explain everything to you. There is a lot to learn, and I would advise you to not mod your phone unless its something you like to do. Your home work too google.
What is : nand recovery, back up, restore
What is: flashing
What is: recovery
What is: sd card, what is stored on it
What is a : rom
What is a :kernel
How do I flash them?
Learn what a ".apk" file is
What two recoveries do you have to choose from?
What is root? And its history (where it came from)
What is "su command"
What is "s" off and "s" on
Like I said, if you don't like too do this stuff and aren't a geek like the rest of us then I wouldn't bother, it takes a lot of reading and learning, one thing we all have in common is we are all still learning.

Honestly, I would love to help, but you are asking too much. It takes weeks, months, even years to get fully acquainted with android and hacking it, especially if this is your first smartphone. If I were you, I would enjoy being stock for now. Once you figure out how to use either terminal or command prompt (Mac or pc, in that order) then maybe start making gradual changes. If you need ANY actual help, pm me as you would not be the first noob i helped. I consider it my duty (ha). Take developments from the experts, give info to the noobs. Really, get familiar with everything, look up some stuff, watch some videos, and if you still need any help, shoot me or another one of the experienced and helpful devs at the xda a pm (private message. Click their name and it will give you the option.) and you will be helped, I garuntee it.

Not picking on ya but you need to understand the basics on yor own because its likely your phone will get messed up if you dont, and you are the only one to blame if it does. Thays why its important to fully understand what you are doing, remember flashing anything to your phone WILL void the warrantee if you screw up so be carefull.

This is if the OP does NOT have Android v2.2.
OP - If you go this route you will need to downgrade in Regaw's 2.2 ROOT METHOD, but stop before using unRevoked.
I am in an overly good mood today so i will help out with some basic information
What is : nand recovery, back up, restore - A nand back up is basically a way to back up your phone its rom and settings. a nand restore uses the a nand back up you made to put your phone back to where is was when you made the nand back up (think about a restore point on a windows computer very similar concept).
What is: flashing - Flashing is the process used to install system files. this is usually done through a recovery which i will get into below. the reason it is called flashing and not installing is because it needs to be done through recovery and is a slightly different process but in more basic terms it is basically installing your rom or radio or other system critical pieces onto the phones internal memory.
What is: recovery - a recovery is basically a program that lets you access some advanced system features, these include nand back up and restore, wiping cache, data, and dalvik, and the ability to flash (install) certain files to your phone. to get into a recovery with your phone off hold volume down and the power button you will load to a white screen with several options (this is the hboot or bootloader) select recovery.
What is: sd card, what is stored on it - Out of the gate your sd card is set up as it should be. their are a few reason you might change this however with 2.2 it has become less of a need and i recommend just leaving it be. The main reason people configure there sdcards is to allow a script called apps2sd to work. what this does is it allows you to store all your apps on the sd card they are normally stored on the phones internal memory. Froyo or 2.2 (the android os version on your phone) has the ability to allow apps to move to your sd card through the settings. now this doesn't work for all apps as it has to be turned on by the app creator but many it will. Because of this i would leave your sdcard alone while you learn the ropes.
What is a : rom - a rom is basically the operating system of your phone. what a rom does is replace the default os with a custom one that has been tweaked or built by a developer. this is the piece of the phone you interact with.
What is a :kernel a kernel is basically the software that translates what you do in the rom to the hardware. think of it as the phones steering wheel. you let the phone to do this and the kernel interprets it so the hardware knows what to do,
How do I flash them? To flash files is relatively easy you place them on the root of your sd card (basically drag and rop onto the sd card but not in any folder). then you boot into the recovery. in the recovery you shoudl be able to find the options to wipe cache, wipe data/factory and wipe dalvik. you select each of these and then yuo select flash .zip from sd. next you scroll to the file you want to flash (the rom or kernel etc you want) and select it (normally power button) you should then flash the rom. once it is flashed select back until you see reboot phone and then reboot it and you should boot up with your new rom.
What is "s" off and "s" on - s on and s off is basically the way you can tell you are rooted in the bootloader (or hboot i talked about above) at the very top you should see one of these options. what these mean is whether your phone requires a signed file (s on) or whether it can flash unsigned files (s off). for now just consider a signed file as an official file with an unsigned file being unofficial or modded.
Now hopefully this explains a bit of the basics better and gives you enough information to better understand what is going on. My recommendation is to take the steps to root flash etc 1 at a time it is easy to read through all the instructions and go wow this is confusing. it really isnt as bad as it seems and as long as you follow each step you should be fine. just do exactly what each step tells you to do and dont worry about the next steps till you are there. you still have a lot to learn and the best way you can learn it is by searching the forums think of it as your library.
many people are glad to help however as you can see from some of the posts it is expected that you at least try to learn and research things for yourself. if you get stuck on something ask and you will normally get an answer just try remember if you cant take the time to search and research things you shouldn't expect others to take the time to help. i'm not saying you did i ma jsut giving advice for the future.
anyway best of luck and hopefully this will get you in the right direction.
NOTE: i have "dumbed" down some of the explanations to give the jiest of the idea with out getting to technical so for those that are more technical it is on purposse.
I want to root my phone so I can use rooted apps like tether, but I dont want to change anything else. I am perfectly happy with the way the phone is set up right now and which apps I have loaded.
So my question is, is it possible to root the phone and then not load a custom Rom or erase ANYTHING I have on the phone now. Honestly I have the phone exactly how I want it and don't want to have to set it all up again.
Before anyone says anything, yes I know there are better roms out there that are faster, I know there are cooler roms out there, Yes I know there are roms that I can customize any way I want. And eventually I will use them, but for now I dont want to change anything except for the root issue.
I have used the sdearch feature and i keep coming up short. So please dont flame me for not using the search, I have been using the search for 2 and a half hours now and am tired.
I have seen multiple different one click tutorial on here but most of them I read comes with a new rom.

Yep. Use revoked. I did mine over the weekend for the same reasons. My only question would be which version. 3.30 vs 3.31. I believe 3.31 was in response to the older way some Roms are done.

unrevoked is what you are looking for.
BUT I WARN YOU unrevoked has led to many bricks. it is the #1 brick method i have heard of recently. so be wary.
still, #1 is still bearly any. maybe 1 in 5000? more?
all i know is there are many people that pop up on the irc stuck at a white screen after running unrevoked.
It doesnt have to hurt to wipe......
Swyped from a galaxy far far away......
eventually, after you root, you can use an app called titanium backup in order to backup all apps and the data that they contain, keeping all info of everything. you will need to root first. i know the feeling, of only wanting to root for the wifi tether, so start with unrevoked (cross fingers, there really is not much of a chance of brick) and maybe once the next ota comes (which you wont be able to recieve with root) you can switch roms.
Is that an Evo? You need to update your prl. Current is 60674.

Revoke was bricking due to the new way some things were done with the 3.3xxx Evo updates. The 3.3 and 3.31 of unrevolked fixed that (well for most I would think)

Well, you can use a "temporary" root, such as z4root so you don't loose anything and if you reboot you won't have root, leaving your phone the way it is

I was rooted with Unrevoked 3.21, and then decided to unroot. I was able to use z4root (temporary root) once after I unrooted - just long enough to restore my apps and data from Titanium Backup. But now whenever I run z4root, it says it completed the temporary root, but Titanium Backup no longer works saying I'm not rooted. So why would z4root work once and then stop?
because you wiped (unrooted) before you used it the first time. i'm telling you it almost ALWAYS only works after a full wipe for a strange reason.
Rooting won't wipe anything. It just turns s-off and gives you superuser app. Once you root you should get Titanium backup. Once installed, open and hit menu. Then select batch and then run backup all apps and system settings. This will backup EVERYTHING to your sd. Now, if you do install a rom, all you have to do is run a batch restore all apps and system data. You can set schedules to backup in the middle of the night while you sleep, every other couple of days. This will be your best friend and I suggest getting pro. It's worth the couple bucks.
Also once rooted, power off and go into recovery (hold volume down and press and hold power) till you get into bootloader. Now select recovery. Go to nandroid and and make a backup imediately. This backs up the the entire system, so if anything goes wrong with flashing anything, you can just go into recovery again and restore. I like to connect to the computer right after I make a backup and go into my sd/nandroid/backup and rename the file with the name, date and time. If you do this right after rooting, I would call it stock.
I hope this helps you out and makes you feel better about rooting. You won't loose your apps or settings so go ahead and root.
If you want help or advice with more things you can do once rooted, send me a personal message and I will be help you out.

correction: UNREVOKED doesnt wipe anything, but it also can damage or corrupt phone sometimes. doing the manuall method is much smarter and safer, and you also get to learn the ropes of android a bit.
wiping really isnt as devistating as you think. just backup contacts, all your apks (sorry no data) and anything else important.
Ok,so i just recently climbed out from the rock i have been hidiing under and found out about rooting my Evo.I did the crap load of reading required before you do something like this and after trying it for 4 hours with some limited help from some friends on XBL and some chat forums i did it.I have rooted it and installed some 2point2 ROM that was recommend to me.Is there anything else i should know or do to unlock me Evos full potential?
Well being Nand unlocked...if you used unrevoked, flash unrevoked forever. Just read up on RUUs, incase oyu need to unroot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880 Just for shows. And read up on roms and enjoy basically.
Yeah,i was told to use Unrevoked3 and that it had Unrevoked Forever included in it.And according to what i read, this 2point2 had really good reviews by current users so i went with that.I was just curious if there was more i needed to keep reading on or things that i may still need to do.Like losing my 4g,although 4g is not in my area yet well there be some way to get it to work when it does come into my area? and besides that 2point2 is there anything else anyone could suggest if i need to do something?
try going to the evo section of the forums and try the "rooting for dummies guide"
its what i did! XD
Aaron,I was looking in the Evo section but could not find that. Would you mind posting the link to that forum please. Its funny,After rooting my phone im all excited and treat it like a new phone. But anyway, yeah a little more directions please cause i couldnt find it.Thanks to all who have responded as well.
I would try flashing other Rom's. Use the one you are using for a couple days and then try another. Also, make sure you backup your RSA keys in case something happens.
Ok,now i am lost. What are those RSA keys? and am i trying out new roms to find one i like or because these go out? Sorry,i am new to all of this stuff. But on the bright side very intersted, lol.
rsa keys are like a wifi passcode, but for 4g. there is one rsa key for every evo, and in this way, if you lose them in a bad flash, you can never get them back and never access 4g again on that particular evo. to back them up, boot into amon ra's recovery, version 2.3. select backup/restore. then nand bakcup. then uncheck all the options but wimax. then back it up. finally, boot up. then mount ur sdcard, and navigate to /nandroid/serial#/dateInAWiredFormat/wimax.img. copy that wimax.img to a very safe place...
welcome to the root crew
Well after reading your post i did notice that my wi-fi is not working so i am to assume that the 4G is not either. Also with this 2point2 i received a wireless tether that does not shut off once i turn it on.I have to take the battery out to make it stop. So thats all kind of a bummer. Also i noticed i have a couple apps that i have never had before, like superuser, spare parts,Rosie settings,DSPManager, and a ROM Manager. What are all of these things? It seems that no matter how much i read,i can never find the answers.LOL i think i just need pictures.

Superuser is needed to grant permissions to apps that require root. When you run a root app like ShootMe or Rom Manager, you'll get a popup asking you to allow it - that's Superuser. Spare Parts is like an extra settings menu. Just browse through it. Rosie settings lets you customize your Sense launcher. I'm not sure what's in there because I haven't used Sense since I rooted. DSPManager is like an equalizer for all sound that comes through your phone. It's a neat concept but I don't use it. And Rom Manager is an app that works with Clockworkmod Recovery, which is probably what you're using. It allows you to download and install Roms within the app. You can also do backups & boot into recovery.

Hello all,
Introduction:
My name is Dev, and I have purchased a phone from Craigslist about a year ago. I used to use Windows Mobile phones. I had no problems with them. I have used the T-mobile MDA, Wing, and Touch Pro 2. They have been good phones for me, until recently. I have always wanted a faster phone and the Touch Pro 2 seemed to be quick enough for me. Nope. It slowed down just like the others. My brother is younger than me, and he has been attracted to the Android market since the T-mobile G1. I never got an opportunity to enter this operating system market. I am very tech savvy however, and it has merely been a case of me not wanting to "change." However, I am past that and I want to contribute to the Android community. My first Android phone is the T-mobile myTouch 3G Slide. (I like sliding phones in case you haven't noticed. I must have the physical keyboard. I text a lot.) I bought it used from Craigslist, and it seemed to work fine then. The previous owner was nice enough to clear all the data off of it, and give it to me fresh. I have been using it since.
Leading into my problem/question:
Lately, however, it has been slowing down too. I want to reset it to a clean slate. I know how to do it. It is in the menus. However, I do not like how this phone has been modified. Why would you modify a phone? I have never had to do this with my Windows phones. There has never been a need to flash any roms or anything. They had updates which were simple to use. Plug the USB into the computer and follow the simple steps. Make sure it doesn't shut off during flash. Simple. I've done this plenty of times with printers, motherboards, CD-ROMs, and all other flashable devices. I understand how big of a risk this is. If the flash doesn't complete (or is the wrong rom), then the device will not work again. Unless, you J-TAG the device and flash it again correctly. But, that requires a lot of work, and a wiring schematic to figure out where the J-TAG ports are. I have learned this information from back in the day when I used to do dish testing. You would flash roms to satellite TV boxes and experiment with new encryption technologies for satellite TV. That being said, I am terrified of flashing phones, because I would have no idea where to look for J-TAG ports for phones, if I mess something up. So, in conclusion, my experience in flashing has been for testing purposes only.
Problem/Question:
How do I figure out what the status of my phone is? It says Cyanogen Mod on start up. My brother tells me this is a very good rom. Who decided that though? Is it a bad idea to go back to stock T-mobile rom? I've always had this thought nagging me to try it and see why people go through all this headache of S-OFF and rooting phones. However, if I go back to the stock rom, will I be able to gain access to the phone's internal memory again? I don't like the idea of losing the S-OFF and rooting privileges the previous owner worked so hard to do. I would like to flash the latest T-mobile rom to the device, but how do I know if it will mess up everything and clash with some code leftover from the modified rom of Cyanogen Mod? Also, how do I backup all my stuff? I want to keep all my setting for the programs I have downloaded from the Google Market. I want to keep my contacts and notes. I want to keep my text messages and MMS messages. I am one of those idiots who keeps all his text messages and MMS messages archived. I go back through the messages from time to time for retrieval of important information I may have spoken about with someone in the past. I know this is a loaded post. I am sorry. If anyone is willing or able to help me, then please pick any point in this post and we'll go from there. This was just an outline of everything so you guys can help me find a starting point.
What I Know About the Phone:
T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide
Android 2.3.3
Baseband 47.63.35.21U_7.15.35.16
Kernel 2.6.32.17-cyanogenmod-g501281a [email protected] #1
CPU ARMv6-compatible process rev 5 (c6l)
Mod CyanogenMod-7.0.0-Slide
Build GRI40
I believe it is S-OFF and it is rooted. I would like a procedure to verify though. Please.
Memory Card:
Memory card has a lot of folders and stuff on it from which I have no idea. Some of it says nervous stuff like ".android_secure" "clockworkmod" "2111.zip" "signed_Froyo_Slide_Radio.zip" "gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip" "update.zip" "update-cm-7.0.0-Slide-signed" and "Android" I like it when my memory card is clean with nothing but a few folders like "Pictures" "Videos" "Movies" "Data" "Programs" "Software" "Music" and other general stuff like that. I like this so I can use the memory card elsewhere and know where everything is. Basically, I want to know if I can delete everything without shooting myself in the foot. How do I find out what each .apk is for? Will a stock T-mobile rom come with all the stock backgrounds, contact pictures, and all the other stock goodies? I feel like some of those were on the SD card too.
Things I like:
Speed. I like things to be fast. Utilitarian. I don't want any fancy effects, typically. I like everything simple. For example, my desktops are all using the Classic Windows Theme, and all fade in / fade out have been disabled. I want my phone to be the same way. Nothing I don't need. Minimalistic. I don't like to keep many programs running at once. This was something I liked about the Windows phones. I could click in the upper right hand corner and it would present a list of running programs. I could close specific ones that I did not want to run in the background. Android doesn't seem to have a feature like this, but it does seem like they close if they are not being displayed on the screen.
WIFI
How do I fix the WIFI in this phone? It seems like the radio drivers are wrong are outdated. It keeps dropping the connection immediately after the phone connects to a wireless network. I noticed a thread, but I cannot post to it. I wanted to ask how I would apply this patch to my phone without having a rom or anything. I thought maybe I could boot the phone into the recovery mode, and install the radio drivers maybe? I don't know what I am doing though, and want some guidance.

And, why does the GPS take so long to get a fix?
Moderators/Thanks
I am very sorry to anyone and everyone whom I may offend in this post. If all my questions are answered somewhere else, please direct me to the correct area. I have been searching and researching for so long and I don't seem to be getting anywhere. I gave up about two months ago, and now I am back again trying to fix this phone. Please do not be mad at me for pestering you guys with annoying questions from new users like me. I know you guys are tired of answering these questions over and over again. Please. Just give me a little guidance. Thank you so much for any and all help. I really truly appreciate this. Android seems to be a very good operating system, and I am looking forward to all your posts.
P.S.
Sorry about the length of this post. It is my first time.

Well, for starters, welcome to the myTouch 3G Slide fora, second, yes, your brother is right, you are running the best ROM available at the moment, but your running an older version of itif you like, i can link you to an updated version of the ROM or i can point you to the "Android Development" section of the forum for the myTouch Slide and you can pick one your self, if you need any help with your device, feel free to PM me or reply to this thread at any time, seeing as how iI am one of the last people who actually still support this device for ROMs, i would reccomend my "TeamFreedom LeWaOS" ROM, but im still working out some kinks in it, for now, i will give you the opportunity to update to the latest version of "CyanogenMOD 7.2":
Download the ROM (has fix for WiFi i believe): http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/RC/update-cm-7.2.0-RC2-espresso-signed.zip
Download for the latest 2.3.3 GAPPS: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
Also, here is how to FLASH these ROMs:
Pre-requsite: PLACE "update-cm-7.2.0-RC2-espresso-signed.zip" and "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip" on the root of your sdcard
1: Hold the power button on your phone
2: Tap "Reboot"
3: Tap "Recovery"
4: when in "Recovery" use the Volume +/- keys to move and the trackpad to select "Wipe data/factory reset" then select "yes" if necessary
4a: select "Install zip from sdcard"
5: then select "choose zip from sdcard"
6: select "update-cm-7.2.0-RC2-espresso-signed.zip"
7: When finished select "reboot system now"
8: again, reboot into recovery
9: flash "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip"
10: reboot system, and enjoy your updated phone, this process overall is the same for all android phones, and for all ROMs
Thank You
Thanks. I will try the new CyanogenMod rom.
Dealing with the performance of your phone, how many SMS/MMS msgs do you have currently? I noticed you said you dont like deleting them. Thing is, if you have a lot of msgs it can significantly impact your phones performance. Obviously it impacts the messaging app but in my experience it can affect the whole system. This may not be the case on CM ROMS but i have noticed it on stock. (i dont use CM much, prefer Sense).
Also u can try overclocking. I like NoFrills app from market. Its free and allows u to select your i/o scheduler and governor.
For backups, hands down Titanium Backup is the best if u ask me (and many others).
Hope this helps a little.

Update on CM7
Hey, guys.
So, I've updated to CM 7.2.0. Since then, I've been having problems with the touch screen and the phone app. If I use the directional pad, I can highlight the phone app, but when I click on it, it crashes. Also, the touch screen is unresponsive all the time. Sometimes, I will get lucky and when I reboot it, I will get access to the touch screen again. I am wondering if maybe I didn't update the drivers for the touch screen or the phone radio or something. I have a hunch that the phone app is crashing and lagging the whole system, so the touch screen isn't working because of that. When the touch screen does work, the phone app is also working. I am thinking of just flashing the phone with HTC's stock rom and then rooting and s-off it all over again, because I think the previous owner didn't do something right. I want to know if I can just flash the stock rom without any consequences. And, also will I be able to get it rooted and s-offed again? I'm hoping that by flashing the stock rom, I can test my touch screen and phone app with confidence. Maybe the phone app is sending commands for a newer firmware revision, and mine isn't updated to that version yet. Not sure how this works really. Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Suggestion. Re-flash the rom, but in recovery go into advanced, wipe dalvik cache. Hit back, now in mounts and storage. Wipe the following, boot, system, hit back wipe/factory reset, wipe cache. Flash rom, then gapps. Reboot. You should be good to go. Hope this helps.

Ran into a wall
Alright, guys.
So, I ran into a wall. It is now completely unresponsive to the touch screen. I had recently flashed it, and I am trying to do what you had suggested, Dvarl. The problem is that I cannot touch the android logo so I can continue onto the Rom Manager where I can flash and reboot into recovery. If I try to go into the recovery by holding the down arrow and power button, then clicking on "Recovery," I get the red triangle logo. It has always been this way. Lastly, my phone is not s-offed. Thanks for helping me out with that. lol Any ideas on how to flash without the Rom Manager recovery flash?
Edit: I think I have found the problem. I think my digitizer is going out. I am going to maybe purchase a new one and see if it fixes the touching problem. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for all your help thus far!
