I use tasker to cut on/off mobile data according to the screen on/off it saves a ton of battery but it doesnt work on gb. it seems none of the similiar apps can toggle the mobile data automatically on gb roms.
Does anyone know of an app that does this or can make or figure out how to make this work again? it works perfectly on cm6 and sense roms but i need it on my gb thanks,

Same issue here. Tasked not settings GPR on or off.
Tasker 1.0.17 does not work in my HD2 Gingerbread (Data Mobile and GPS). Extended Controls 5.2.1 widget works on/off mobile data.
Settings-accounts & sync- uncheck background data.
That prevents apps to send and receive data on the background.
Give that a try and see what happens.

Hey Guys,
Any programs that'll toggle the WiFi on or off based on my location (e.g, save my work location in the program so that it knows to turn on WiFi when I get to work).
Search for "locale", by "two forty four" in the market. It's a paid app, but do many other things beyond that.... you can automatically set almost everything based in location...

At $10, I'd like to see other opinions on the Locale app. Anyone here use it?
Yes, look for home wifi, it does just that.
Very simple to use.

Juice defender can control wifi usage based on location. Also uses mobile signal to pinpoint location instead of gps so saves your battery too!!
Just wondering if CM7 comes with a data counter to keep an eye on mobile data (3G etc) usage.
I've had a good look through all the CM7 settings but can't find one
I have my connection pretty well controlled via Droidwall so only have gmail, contacts & calendar allowed to have access to 3G data so I'm not going to use much data but a counter may be of use if there's a good one available.
Can anyone suggest a good data counter from the market.
Thanks
3g watchdog, never had any issues with it, the pro version can even count data in blocks if you're data plan is based on it, so i highly recommend this app.
Have you checked the market?

Yes I've had a quick look but there's quite a few to choose from so was after some recommendations from XDA members for CM7 really.
I have t-moble, downloaded app directly from market to oversee my data usage.

Just tried 3G Watchdog & it seems to be quite a decent app - shows details in the notification bar so easy to view.
Will probably stick with this when I start getting charged for mobile data
I use the "NetCounter",it's the most light-weight app for data counter.

how do you access droidwall and set it to only allow certain apps to access 3g data?

Download Droidwall from the market.
Load it & grant it Root access.
In the Droidwall menu enable firewall & enable log.
Droidwall will show a list of all apps/programmes that request wifi/3G access with a "checkmark" box next to each.
You can then check which apps you want to access wifi or 3G or both.
Go into the Droidwall menu & click "apply rules".
At the top of the screen there's an option to have it in whitelist mode (only allows access to whichever you have put the checkmark against) or blacklist mode (won't allow access to those apps that you have put a checkmark against).
I use it in whitelist mode.
Important to say if you download a new app after installing Droidwall then you have to go back in & allow it access.
There's also a log button in the menu so you can see which apps are getting blocked.
Thanks for tips. Works like a charm, but gotta slowly add the apps into the list

Some apps may also need other programmes adding to the list for example youtube may also need media server adding for it to work. In that case I use the log feature of Droidwall to show what it blocked.

The new 4.0 (FF18) update missing background data off/on option...
The background data on/off has been removed from the settings/account and sync menu.
Any work around it?
Thanks

Data Usage Menu has a preferences that allows to restrict background data. Or just turn data usage off which shuts off 3g

*Edit* The problem was found to be with Titanium backup and how it reports data usage by apps after you restore it. I have contacted the developer for investigation.

So, I have Tasker installed on my Nexus just for simple automation that turns on Wi-Fi tether when my phone's Bluetooth pairs with my car stereo (which is also Android) so I can stream Internet radio etc.
I've been noticing lately that my data has been transmitting a lot when my phone has been sitting idle so I did some investigation and found that Tasker has sent over 2GB of data this month alone. This is more than I've used while tethered! I can't think of any valid reason as to why it would need to send that much data (if any at all) so I am highly suspicious of this app. Anyone else using Tasker? Can you check your data usage to see if you're seeing the same?

You can disable using background data on data usage settings. But really, its a weird case. Mine not using any data at all...

Unfortunately it's 99% foreground data which means I can't block it. There shouldn't be any reason for this app to send/receive data from my phone. The only other app that uses more data is YouTube which is valid since I use it all the time. Here's the pic:
OK, this is crazy.
I just went back and checked the previous months of Tasker data usage
September: 4.0GB
August: 3.36GB (date installed was August 7th)
WTF is going on?!
If I was you I would wipe everything including SD card and start from scratch. Def seems a bit fishy...
under settings..accessibility..services tasker is it on or off?
It is off.

There's some setting to disable/enable external apps from controlling Tasker. Do you have that enabled? If so, try disabling.
What kinda tasks have you configured? Anything that uploads photos or something?

Did you get install Tasker directly from Play Store? If so, might be worth to contact the developer and ask about this. I have this application running in the background for a couple of months now and haven't got this issue.

Did you Titanium back up and restore the system data for "Data Usage". Youtube, my highest data usage app turned into another random app after backing up my Data Usage from stock rom and restoring to Rasbean Jelly.

I only have 1 task configured that pretty much reads like this (logically)
When paired to BTxxx turn on WiFi Tether, End statement=disable tether
That's it.
I haven't changed any of the default settings in Tasker except to remove the lightning bolt from my notification bar. I just unfroze the app. The setting 'Allow External Access' is disabled.

I did download it from the Play Store. I have been in contact with the developer and we haven't narrowed down what the cause could be.

I did do a restore of data usage when I moved over from CNA to Paranoid so you may be on to something here. In your case, do you show any YouTube traffic as well, or has it all been shifted to the random app?
Thanks.
OK, I think I've found the problem. It appears to be a bug in Titanium backup and restoring the usage statistics.
I have also done a restore of my data use after flashing a new ROM so I did some further testing after unfreezing Tasker for a couple of days and everything appears to be fine in that there is no data use being reported.
Thanks for the suggestion Akash3656. I am going to report my findings to the author of Titanium backup.

Hi,
When I'm using Wi-Fi, in the background large amount of data is transmitted, even when I have turned off auto synchronization.
That's the reason why, i don't want to use data transmission provided by my GSM operator. Is there any application, which will give me a control over every application which is trying to use internet? Application asking me if I want allow this application to use data transmision, or asking how i want to realize this connection, by Wi-Fi or data transmission?
Do you know any apps, or any solutions?
I don't know any apps, but may be the solution, do you have auto backup feature turned on? It's in backup and reset.
Usually everything like your settings and password are backed up all the time to Google servers. Turn it off, it might work.
