Made a New Background For Call In Progress Screen
Check this out. I made this adaptation of an old homescreen background. Just drop this file in your Windows directory, if you like it.
Looks very lcd screen friendly, will try out later today. Do you have the original wallpaper too? Did someone else on here draw it, or did it come from one of the original ROMs?
The pic I posted when clicked on is the actual size of the picture. I have been making homescreen xml's for a while and this was one of the old backgrounds for a homescreen with Fizz weather and Facade. I just altered the image so that it would fit nicely on the Call In Progress Screen. So, no one here drew the picture, and no it did not come from a ROM. It's just simply a pic for 320x213 screen that is altered for the CIPS picture.

You should warn people that the file you posted is really a RAR archive and not a ZIP archive. When trying to open it as a zip, XP complains that it's corrupted...
Thanks, will remember to say that next time. I totally spaced. Appreciate the heads up.

Yeah, I'll see if I can come up with some others. Maybe I'll get with Profezza about some. I'd hate to come off like I'm stepping on some toes, since Profezza's Alphanuma is pretty similar.
Do you have any requests or ideas? Any ideas are always appreciated.
Holla!
well, i found the images already, but i haven't found the referring registry-keys yet. (i know in SP2003, it was possible to change the Windows-Start-Logo by just modifying the registry and not changing any rom-files. is this possible for these two images (the green background, when someone is calling and the plain-white one in the startmenu-background.) I'd rather like just changing registry-keys instead of replacing those files. Can someone tell me, if these 2 images are given in the registry, and where these keys are?
Take a look in

well, thanks, at least i found the start-menu/menu background, so i can change from plain white to some other color or gradient.
I was actually going to make a .cab which replaces all of your volume, alert, question, low battery, and inbound/outbound/in call splash screens... .Maybe i'll do that now. If enough people want it.

no it wont. But im sure you can create a script to accomplish that.
All the .cab would do is basically overwrite the files .png, .bmp that are located in the windows directory. i mean i have posted the files b-4 on this forum with the original file names that mirror the ones you would be replacing in the windows directory. lemme see if i can find that post.
Here' they are. I take no credit for these. Guys over at moto forums created these. Just drop these in the \windows directory and overwrite the originals (make sure your backup the originals if you want to revert back)
In-Call Screen
Info Screen
Question Screen
Error Screen
Volume Screen
Here's the files:
yay pudge
Thanks for these (I know they're not yours BUT you did let us know they were available)!
I was never really able to overwrite files in the \Windows directory on my phone before flashing to Kavana's. I haven't tried yet. The phone was app unlocked before the flash as well. I've also never been able to see \Windows via active sync on my pc. The same is true even after flashing to Kavana's.
Here's hoping this goes well!

the \windows directory on your phone is a hidden folder.
You need to go to your manubar and click on tools-->folder options-->click on "view" tab and select, " show hidden files & folders" lick apply or ok.... you should then be able to see the /windows directory on your phone with exploring your directory via activesync

I hate so much to be negative but I've tried that. It still doesn't show up.
so you mean to tell me that "show hidden files and folders IS selected" and when you connect your phone to your PC or laptop via activesync and then press explore in the activesync application. and then click on "windows mobile device" . and it shows you the list of files and folders, that the \windows folder is not there?

Yup! It's something that's been bugging me for awhile now! Even after a flash of the ROM it's not accessible. My girlfriends laptop as XP on it and it's the same story there too! I can use resco though to move the files and I've already placed the ones you posted on my phone. They look great. I'll try to create some of my own and see how it goes. Say, is ActiveSync running randomly for no reason when your phone is not connected to your pc normal?
Alright I have loaded ROM's onto my phone but I am still pretty new to this, I am wondering if anyone can take the time to walk me through of how to get Home Screen's like these (the first one and the red one on PG1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378000
Thank you very much for any help you are willing to give.
P.S. what ever help I get I will be more then happy to give to other begginner's.
The big clock is called HTC Home and that's fairly easy to find, just make a simple search for it. The tray on the bottom looks like PHM Trays which you can get from PHM Tools.

Did you bother reading the thread or are you the type to look at pics and ask for help, right off the bat?
Actually I did take the time to read a lot of the post's but as I said in my first post I am pretty new to this stuff and a lot of the talk was quite confusing to me because of the short form's and such so program's and stuff like that.
Like I said before, I am just looking to see if some one has the time to help me, not looking for people to chirp about how new I am and such. Thank you.

Alright so I have read the first like 11 pages and no where in there have I found how to get those 2 Home Screen's running on my Dash?
Please help
As for the Red Carousel theme....go here.
Download the needed cabs in the bottom of his first post and read his install instructions.
As for the HTC home, if you READ where to get it from its in his first thread also...
- HTC Home
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/3306160
Download that cab.
Once you've downloaded the cabs...you transfer them to your phone using Active sync. Place them in your documents folder. Using your phone Resco Explorer program direct yourself to the My Documents folder and click on the cabs to install them.
If asked where to install them, pick Main memory (phone itself) not the memory card.
DO NOT UNZIP or UNRAR the CAB files.
After the cabs are installed. REBOOT.
Once rebooted, Click on start->settings->Home Screen->Home screen layout
Once there, choose which home screen...you'd like to have.
Done
Thank you for the help, I have one question though, I downloaded the courosel theme and unzipped it to a folder and then I copied to my from through My Computer (I'm not sure if that matter's?) but when I selected the Courosel theme in Home Screen, the text messages and voicemail stuff look's all messed up? Is that because I unzipped the file?
Another question came up....
I dled the LCD clock and unzipped it, copied the folder to my phone and then went to Resco Explorer and clicked the Setup.xml and it did a bunch of stuff, I thought it installed but then when I rebooted my phone nothing happened?
DO NOT UNZIP or UNRAR the CAB files.
Jesus man
the lcd plugin is a CAB
If you need help anymore this member (Gixxum) is the man to go to.
Alright thank you very much, I didn't realize that that was a cab file since I have never worked with a cab before.
I installed the cab. and got a message saying that I may need an older version of WM?
I then rebooted and the LCD clock was not there?
I couldnt edit again so I has to do another post, the problem I was having was just that I didn't go to the background image and change it to courosol.
thank you.

No matter how big or what colors we use people seriously have selective reading. lol
actually I read that a few times but I was not sure what a cab file was.
Funny how much you care about the mistakes I made instead of helping haha.
Thanks everyone.
alright I have one more question and I thought I would post it here instead of opening another thread. When I am using txt messaging and I sent a txt (I will use this as an example) at 8:01 PM and some one sends me a txt back in the same minute it will say that they replyed at 7:01 PM. It always says one hour earlier for replys? I have searched through options but I cannot seem to find where to change it?
Thank you ahead of time.
Are you sure your time is right? Go to settings --clock & alarm-- and scroll to where on earth you are. Do a reset try that.
I checked the times man and NOTHING! this is kind of brutal, it's not like it's a huge problem but it's just ******* frustrating, any ideas guys?
Whats the time difference on the clock?
First off, I take no credit in doing this, this is meant to help people if they want to try it. And I am only making thread at request of others members.
If you break your phone I am not responsible, if you have questions though I am more than willing to help as much as I can but this was the first project I did.
There may be easier ways to do this but this is how I did it. If there is, feel free to comment the other ways!
I would like to say thanks to maddoggin and illinois08 for there help in getting mine figured out!
Requirements:
winrar (this is what I prefer but you can use any of your choice)
Original Swype.apk (included in thread and swype needs to be already installed)
image editing software (I personally used gimp and coreldraw) and experience in them.
common sense
What you are actually changing:
To change the look of swype is fairly simple, meaning all you are changing is some .png files in the apk itself to whatever you want them to be.
The only downside is trying to make sure the letter spacing is correct. That is the reason I used coreldraw first to do the spacing and then the background with my flames was in gimp.
First Step:
Using winrar (7zip, etc) open up Swype.apk (I placed on desktop for easier use).
The first folder should say assets. Open up assets. After you open assets, there should be a folder named keyboards. Drag the keyboards folder to desktop.
Once you open the keyboards folder, you will see multiple image files. You have found the files we need to edit! Make sure every png stays in there even if you decided not to edit one of them.
Files SwypeRef_LS_Blue_Shifted_WVGA.png (LS is landscape keyboard) through SwypeRef_PT_Standard_wBlue_VGA.png (PT is portrait, most important for me)
I only edited 4 of the images because these are the main 4 I use and don't use landscape. If you wish you can edit all of them or just 1 .
Second Step:
Using Gimp/or CorelDRAW, you will need to make new images that are 480x320 pixels. At this point, it is totally up to you to get the placements correct and make the image how you want it displayed.
I personally imported the images I was editing to Corel, and basically started a fresh one on top of it so I could get the letter placements correct. You need to make sure when you are done that the image is still 480x320 with the letters not being the end of the size. I made an outline that was 480x320 and placed the letters inside and exported the image that way so it stayed the right size. I would also try to keep the images around 50 kb because mine are around 90 and you noticed some lag when it switched between pngs...
As you are exporting your images, make sure to name them their appropriate names (shifted, capitals, lower case, etc.) which makes it easier to rename them after wards.
Third Step
Once you have all of your images done how you want, I would place them all in their own separate folder.
Now, you will need to open the keyboards folder from earlier and match the images you edited to where they go in "keyboards" and rename your files to the appropriate name and delete its' counter part. Meaning make sure only your image is in keyboards with it renamed to what mode your png represents. And make sure the folder contains every png it did before. They all serve a purpose.
After you have removed all the old pngs and replaced with your renamed images, you will need to open Swype.apk back up and go to assets-> and delete the original keyboards folder. After deleting, move your keyboards folder with your images under assets.
Swype is now edited with your keyboards how you want them!!
Fourth Step:
The only thing left is either adb push Swype.apk to system/app or place on sd card and install with astro,ez,etc.
Another way that is very easy and the way I do it. If you are using a theme, open up on your desktop with winrar. Go to folder system/app and place Swype.apk in app folder. Now flash from recovery and your new and improved swype is ready for action.
I have attached what I made mine look like. Some people may not like how basic it looks and how some of the things are not sized or off correctly but I like it and it works!!
I also added a picture of my custom dropdown which I made in Gimp. If you would like to know how to do one like this send me a PM.
And if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I may not be the best at explaining things thoroughly !
I have been getting a lot of PM asking how to edit swype ...
Are my instructions to complicated? If so, let me know and I will try to revise them a bit and sorry!
Nah it's cool man. I mean i get it. idk about everyone else. I haven't got around to trying it yet but this lets me know what to expect.
Ok well that is good! Thanks for the reply...
I hope that post didn't come off as rude, if you sent me a PM I more than willing to help everyone! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't bad instructions ...

Thanks man! Like I said since this was my personal one I didn't go all out and it was kind of sloppy but it suits me fine.
I was thinking about it but not sure what people would want! If some people gave me some ideas of what kind of background or font, I would have no problem making it for them.
Now that I know how to do it (with your help) it won't be as painful as before, just time consuming.
I'm not a user of Swype but I certainly commend the effort that you put into this. It came out great.

Your are welcome! Let me know if you have any questions!
Just so everyone is clear, the Swype.apk attached to post is the original swype, not my customized one . Because that is what you have to edit.
Just so no one gets confused.
Thank you for this help. I've wanted to be able to change the way mine looked but have been stuck trying to find someone else's work that suited. I've just bought WidgetLocker Lockscreen and using SMS Unread Count to display any missed calls/sms/emails.
The one thing that annoys me about my nice new lockscreen is pressing on the SMS Unread Count widget has an orange highlight before it opens the application.
Is there any way to remove the annoying orange highlight? It seems to be standard for all widgets to be highlighted in some way when pressed.
Been digging through my framework-res.apk and tried editing focused_application_background_static.png to another colour or transparent but this doesn't seem to be the correct image file.
If anyone knows how I can do this could you please point me in the right direction?
So I was looking in the wrong apk file. I guess this is what happens when you're attempting mods when you should be sleeping.
All it took was a simple edit of some .9.png files in the correct apk and now everything is nicely colour coordinated again.
Can someone explain to me how to do this in detail?
Anyone ?
Been a few months, but I still can't find which files to edit. Anyone know?

Oh oops I guess I wasn't really paying attention when reading... Anyway, you just need to decompile the widget/app apk and replace the image file that gives the orange glow with a transparent one. You can sort of tell which one it is by looking at the file names.

Yup, I found the apk I need. It's com.kanokgems.smswidget-1.apk. I replaced a couple of images using WinRar, then used Root Explorer and copied it over to it's original location. Then restarted my phone, but it didn't work. The app wouldn't run properly...
You need to decompile it with APKtool or Auto APK Manager, and recompile it that way. Not always necessary, but that's the best way. And the most important part is to re/sign the apk file after you've recompiled it.
(Try installing it; if it tells you "Application not installed" you probably haven't signed it properly, and if you do sign it correctly it should work, otherwise uninstall the app and install your modded one).
Just delete badgeprovider.apk

Really clever and useful app.
I've only used it to hide apps on friends' Androids, once I've configured them.
They're new to Android and want the simplest experience they can get, with all the benefits.
It's a shame that you cant hide Minimalistic Text and Desktop Visualizer, and still have them run on the homescreen though. Hidden apps won't always run in the background (as warned in the app).
I hope it continues to develop - it's definitely worth al look for anyone who is not aware of it's potential.
I love the fact that it actually operates as an audio manager. Excellent disguise.
I'm using it since a few month. Save with tb. Restore after flashing a new rom. You just have to hide app again. Great app. Bugless.

hey buddy if you go on your phone and in the search you put Hide Pro that will be the first thing it will come up..download it and enjoy the app. but if you want the link just let me know and i give it to you
Been using it for ages now and its quite good, easy to use etc.
The only problem is it doesnt truly hide the pictures, files etc you want hidden. It simply moves them somewhere else with the old . trick before the folder name. Anyone who is familiar with android phones will know how to find them with root explorer.
Ive been searching but cant find an app that truly hides it. Back in the days when i was on Windows mobile 6.5, there was an app "Hide my stuff" and believe me, it did just that. Connect your phone to the PC, the folder exists but its blank in size, no files, cant unhide them etc. Only way to view them is via the app on the phone but i cant find anything on Android that hides things like that app did :-(

Dont think you follow me, dont get me wrong, ive used for 6 months easy and it is good for what it does.
What i mean is that it doesnt matter what ROM youre using, it doesnt truly hide the files you think are hidden. ie/ if i had your phone, i would be able to find the files easily so if the average person took your phone, whatever pictures you hide, arent seen in the gallery for example however its easy to find anything you have hidden if you get my drift. This is because the app moves the files somewhere else. Any file explorer can see them so its not really hidden. go to /mnt/sdcard/programdata/android/language/.fr/ and everything hidden is there so i wouldnt call that hidden lol
The other app i mentioned when i was using windows TRULY hid the file and there was no way you could ever find it unless you unhid it with the app, hope that makes sense.
I was just putting it out there if anyone knew of an app on Android that truly hides files, i havent found one yet.

Much appreciated. I hope you have better luck then me because ive been looking for ages and to date, this one is one of the better ones. The way it functions, ease of use, menu etc is great, i just wish it truly hid something.
Most on the market just put a . in front of the folder, with file explorer its easily viewed.
If you are ever bored, hide some pictures you dont want anyone to see, go to a photo shop where you can use the self service machines to print photos, put your phones SD/micro SD card in there and whatever you have hidden appears lol.
When i used this other app on windows it wouldnt appear

Il give you a buzz if something comes up..In the meantime im having a bloody rough time putting a link in my sig and its not bloody working and ihave tried everything i know
I'm using this app since the beginning. It's a great app. it had already saved my life lots of time !!!
It's really great for the money !
Hidden files are renamed in .bin, and then are moved to a "secret folder" in External_sd\ProgramData\Android\Language\.fr\ or something like that.
The add-on option is a way to lock an application. When you try to launch a protected app, you've got a force close message. in this message you choose report, then you have to input your secret code, and the app is launched...really clever solution.
Developer say that his next goal is to hide some secrets contacts from address book.
Yes man, believe me, it's a great app. hidden in a audio manager application.
PS 1: I have nothing to do with the developer. I've try lot of similar apps, but this one was the best one.
The other solution was giving by Tasker and some intelligent script to lock app and hide files. But it's more more complicated ;-)
PS 2: On the bad side, developer did not update his app for a while :-(

thanks for your comments
This one encrypts files
Try Private Gallery - Hide Pictures from market.
It encrypts files with option to hide app access via phone dialer.
Tested on Dell Streak 5.
I am using this app since 4 months.. it simply does what it says.. n it was one of the best
but the last update killed 'Lock App' feature which comes with an plugin... which is one of a kind..i love the disguised force close option.
Please tell me if this feature is still working for you'll???
Hi everyone,
I've managed to hide apps but I can't unhide them? It gives me an error when trying to do so and the app appears back in the hidden list.
Anyone else experienced this and managed to fix it?
Since the location of hiden files are stored in Phone memory (\ProgramData\Android\Language\.fr) can we move to External SD Card memory?
I often confuse with the terms "SDCARD" in file explorer, in my opinion "sdcard" is the external memory card which is purchase separately...
This app appeared on my phone without being installed. What caused this???
thanks for share:good:
