Why would you want to go back to stock? Warranty? And use the search button, I'm pretty sure you'll find your answer, I get mad when the person we are trying to help doesn't even attempt to help himself/herself.

You can check the stickies for the instructions. You know the ROM you need? I think you need to find that out.

How to Unroot after using the new root method

Hey guys I'm sorry to bother you all and I am sure you can see I am a newb to xda. I had a Samsung Moment before my Evo and had problems so had to return it and I was rooted and was able to unroot it to take back to Sprint. I just wanted to verify that if I use the new root method that if anything were to go wrong with my phone that I could unroot it at some point if necessary. If someone could point me in the wrong direction I would appreciate it.

Why would you want to be pointed at the wrong direction? Do you want to brick your phone? LOL!
Kidding aside, I think running the RUU for whatever software version you have will bring you back to stock.
Guess I should proof read my posts better haha. I am half asleep right now and was getting ready to use the new root method posted by SteelH. So if I use this because I did accept the update where would I find this RUU and how would I do it? Just download the sync program from Htc correct?
The htc sync is only necesary if you are having driver problems. All you should really need to do is run the RUU on your computer while the phone is connected to the pc.

Thank you th3_g00b,
You set a new standard for the forum with this approach
I'm getting somewhat tired of the heckling shown elsewhere for honest mistakes.

I THINK, but I may be wrong, that since this method only requires putting files onto the sdcard and letting recovery and hboot do all the work, there should be no problems with using a mac.

Correct, since this method does not involve using an exe

[Q] Unlocking the New HTC EVO 4G

I know, I know, I know...
I am a member of a few different forums for other things and there is always a neb that comes on and asks a question that has been beat to death.
I have heard that God kills a kitten ever time someone post a thread before doing a search on what you are trying to get answered. So for my sake, God's sake and that poor kitten sake, I did read through a lot of post before I had the sack to post this question
I am posting this question because there seems to be a lot of different answers to a lot of different questions, so, I was hoping for very direct answers to these questions that I know have been asked plenty of times...
Here it goes...
I have purchased the HTE EVO w/ android 2.2 and I have had it for about 2 weeks.
I want to root my phone, which is my first ever smart phone.
This is what I would like to happen...
1) I want to be able to have the restore point so that I can flash my phone back to stock so that if something happens the warranty will still be good.
* Does this save on my home pc or sdcard? Or Both?
I have read that you need to download here not there(ruu...clockworks/rom manager)...no here not there...If you download anything but this you will not be able to get it back to the stock setting and Sprint will know you have rooted the phone...The whole thing started to get a little confusing.
I am a very simple person so I am hoping for a very simple answer, if there is one.
1) How do I root my HTC EVO that has the android 2.2?
2) How do I make sure that I can have a recovery point incase I mess it up (brick, etc...)
3) How do I make sure that I can flash my phone back to the original settings just incase I have to send it in to be fixed for some reason, which rom manager lets me do this?
4) Is it legal to do this?
5) What might be the biggest no-no to do before, during and after you root your phone?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
Visit the wiki, that should answer most of your answers.
1. Rooting voids warranty
2. Always perform a nand backup if you want to revert to your previous state.
Visit the wiki, the instructions are simple.
EDIT: Actually the wiki will answer all of your answers.

Sorry for the silly ? But what is the wiki?
It is a sticky in Android Development called Evo Wiki. You have to put effort in searching, I believe in you!

DO NOT RUN UNREVOKED OR YUO COULD PERMANENTLY CORRUPT YOUR PHONE!!!!! at the moment, there is no brainless way of doing it. you need to manually set up the adb and usb drivers, and then do some coding work, along with downloading like 1/3 gig of files.

depends on what he's wanting to do..if he's rooted trying to go stock or keep froyo with root, also, if he's stock GB and wants to go back to froyo, won't happen, hBoot versions different and will pop up with a message saying the update is too new or something like that.
so a little info on his part will help us out by helping him out!

Sorry, just so frustrated getting out of the latest. 2.3.3 / 4.24.651.1 was a new device and came preinstalled and updated. Been trying again today unsuccessfully, I feel so out of place with the only one in here unrooted?? LOL
Anyhows was really looking into on just delparting it(networkingskills) starting to take over my thoughts. Hell with it, delpart it n ,get dos boot disk made from win2000 to recreate Rom from cmd prompts?
Is there such a wipe? Mean just wipe all clean without it going back to recovery to reboot from?

Whats the good news? They dont mention the EVO4G in there, and they wont unlock it either. Its almost to its EOL, they want us to buy new phones so why unlock it?
My 2¢
if you have another sprint phone.....
Call sprint, swap esn to other phone.
Sell yours on craigslist.
Buy another one on craigslist that's rooted (call and swap esn to phone to make sure it works)
Go home, install whatever you want.

[Q] Root Help

Hi guys I need your help! I know this should be in a Q&A but i didnt see one and I think it is better suited on here than general. I achieved root friday as others did and have been messing around with the phone since. I somehow managed to put a ROM from the S2 international on my phone and lost the backup of the original file. I know, I know it's been a long weekend so bare with me. Is there any way to get back to the way it was with full root access? Or is a new phone in the near future. Please feel free to facepalm I already have many times. Thanks for any info that could help me out.
