Hi there,
Anybody know how to remove the Google Search app that comes preinstalled on the Desire HD stock ROM?
I try to remove it as I do with any other system app (Titanium Backup -> select app -> uninstall), but everytime I restart my phone it comes back?
I've got root and S-OFF, so I can't understand why it keeps being reinstalled?
Thanks,
Alex

Im running the virtuous ROM and want to remove the WI-FI calling app as im in the uk and not on T-Mobile, I read in other threads you can do this using titanium, ive found the app in the uninstall all user and system app (ive unchecked everything else) but is it simply just a case of checking the app and running it ? and why is it 'in red' ...is that cos its a system app ?
^^Yes, System Apps are shown in Red in Titanium and to uninstall them, you need Root!

Hi,
I have the Vision Sense 1.82.405.1 Untouched ROM on my Desire Z, and I've noticed excessive data usage with the News app according to PhoneUsage app, despite turning off sync, so I wish to uninstall it. However, it's a HTC app. I have Titanium Backup but I can't figure out how to uninstall the app. Is it possible, and if so how?
In titanium back up bring up the menu select filter, select system apps then hit apply. You will then have a list of just system apps. Find the one you are looking for then when you click on them you will get a pop up menu. I would advise freezing the apps instead of uninstalling them. This way if you ever wanted to get an app back you haven't got reflash the rom. Also wouldn't hurt to do a nandroid first I uninstalled some system apps the other day which resulted fc's that I couldn't get rid of.

Recommendations above (to try freezing the app, and do a nandroid) are good ones, before uninstalling system apps. The News app is built into Android, and uninstalling such apps can possibly lead to issues.

I always uninstalled it and never had an issue.
Thanks. By nandroid do you mean using clockworkmod ROM manager to make a backup under Backup and Restore->Backup Current ROM? I've read nandroid guides that say I have to reboot into recovery. Do I have to do this or will "Backup Current ROM" in the app do the same thing?
Also, with News installed, do you guys experience excessive data usage, regardless of sync settings? This is the HTC News app I believe, not the stock Google one(if there's such a thing)
Hi,
Are there any issues with uninstalling/removing the Stocks and Peep system apps? I only have the free version of Titanium Backup and it doesn't allow me to freeze the apps.
Thanks.

Hi everyone~ I am a Hong Kong user and i got a problem on the new market 3.1.3
My desire is rooted, S-off and in using Cm7 (7.0.3-Desire)
Around a month ago, I found that the market icon is changed into "3D-market icon" . I really surprise that the market is updated AUTOMATICALLY Then, the nightmare has started...
First, the market is loading and pop-out Accept or Decline, of course i choose Accept~
Second, the market is loading the User-Interface. and then Force Close!!!!
I try to do everything to turn everything back to normal (2.3.6 market), therefore I found that I can uninstall the update in setting-> application-> market.
Then the market is back to normal~~
Unfortunately, Today... I can not do the "uninstall the update" because the update speed is so fast!!! I mean the market become updated to 3.1.3 when i just launch about 20seconds
What is the problem...? I search about the keyword about "3.1.3 market Cm7" and found many people have the same problem but i don't know how to fix it (For example, how to change the resolution of the screen?)
(My English is not good...plx help me and hope you know what i am saying and finally thx for your helping...)
The same for me. And I don't want to give up CM7
did you guys tried to go into settings/applications and delete market data and cache? even reboot?
if u dont want the auto update anymore, u can freeze with titanium backup the app "market updater"

Thx for helping~ I checked that there is no cache in the market
Should I try clear data?
Moreover, could you quote more information about "titanium backup" ? I totally don't know what is the important of it.
clear data too..u only lost the market settings, which u can set again later anyway
the otehr option, if the above doesn't work, is to uninstall update, and with titanium backups choice "Market Updater" click on it and choice block or frize..so that app will no longer auto update ur market

you said uninstall update... but I found that the market updater (4.00KB) is not allow me to uninstall it, there is no uninstall button.
Anyway~ I download titanium backup and try to freeze the market updater and i successfully get into the market and no update happen Hope this can fix the problem forever~~ Thx bro~
Btw, i would like to know that will Cm7 release the most updated G-app package for us ? haha~
Had the same problem... There is a problem with some languages/keyboard.
Go to Settings > Language & Keyboard > Select language and choose English (United Kingdom), then try to open tha market app...
It worked for me!

After you choose English(United kingdom), you can launch 3.1.3 market?
Otherwise, I just use titanium backup to freeze the market updater, It seems worked for my desire Cm7
I got same problem before.. fixed by wipe all data, cache and reinstall the rom. Not sure if it works for you.
Another solution is to find Market version 2 and update it from recovery

Not for me though. I get the same force close as above (after accepting the download). My logcat shows that it doesnt like my hboot controlled 5 MB cache partition

Basically, I've tried installing the stock messaging app onto my Wildfire S and it's always warning me that 'I'm replacing a stock app' and whether I want to continue. Therefore I don't install them.
So, what I'm looking for is a copy of the stock Android 2.3 messaging app for my Wildfire S which WON'T replace my HTC one, just so that I can revert back to the original if I don't like it. If anyone knows of one like this / can make one, I'd very much appreciate it. And by the way I'm not rooted, and I've already tried Handcent and Go SMS and I don't like them.

Since you are not rooted (unable to place it into the system/app folder), the original app will still be there. If you need to revert back the remove the new app and the original will come back.

I'm still confused. How would I remove the app? And does 'all previous user data will be saved' mean that is I remove the app then the original will come back?

To remove the app goto setting -> applications -> manage applications = scrool thru list and select the app, then select uninstall...
'all previous user data will be saved' means it will show/transfer in the new app.
you can remove the new app and the original will come back.
Hi Guys, I have Question.
Lets say i rooted my device, L-04E
after root i started to remove some basic application (by the provider, as docomo).
1) Can i brick my phone by removing these applications?
2) Is factory reset will install them back? or i need to do restore?
i am about to try:
Root
Backup all these provider apps (as dialer, etc..)
uninstall all the annoying apps
am i missing something?
Don't unninstall, freeze them (TiBU, App Quarantine, etc) and set the QuickButton to open the app you`re using to freeze them just in case you f*ck up the launcher.
There will no problem, good luck.

I believe titanium backup (tibu) needs root but the app description should tell you if it needs root or not. Just check the app description before downloading.
