Battery problem - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I'm using myns rls5 and have flashed every kernel that I know of and my battery life just sucks. Something like a 10% drop every 15 minutes...I do use my phone heavily through out the day. Can anyone please point me in the right direction for what I should or need to do. Thanks in advance.

Are you using an extended battery?
Swyped from my EVO running CyanogenMod 6.1 Nightlies

What did you wipe before you flashed?
Also, it's becoming more and more clear that this ROM takes a while to settle in (weird...I know). I used to get abysmal battery life with RLS 5...and now it's gotten ALMOST as good as RLS 4 was

Are you updated with the latest radios?

If you're using the latest PRI, it sucks. Look into downgrading to the 1_77 one

I have the newest radio, wimax nd all. No extended batt though. Tried the sbc kernels. I'm like ahhh when I see other people getting 10hrs+
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Thank you very much, gonna hit the thank button when I get to the computer. I would still like some help when it comes to getting better battery power.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Dude, I've been at 68% for 30 minutes plus, is this normal after the tweak? Btw I had it flashed the whole time but it never had my su permission to run until now.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
The tweak never worked for me so I don't use it. Actually it didn't work for the majority who tried it in the thread if im not mistaking. I just use the sbc kernels now. Best battery life I've ever had!

Okay, about these sbc kernels you speak of..where can I get one?

CM7 sleep problem.

Checked my up time and it's identical to my total on time. Checked partial wake usage and no rogue apps that I see. What could he the cause of my problem?

Please dont bump your own post an HOUR after you posted...
Give us some more details, when did you flash? How did you flash? Have you installed any apps lately?
My fault. Sorry. I'm running that CM7 19 VERSION. I am using the red theme from the market. I can't use juice defender simply cause it doesn't support gingerbread yet. I'm using 60676 prl. Can't even find the pri but I'm assuming it's still 1.77 unless cm came with 1.9.
Flashed it 24 hours ago. Haven't switched kernals cause I have had horrible experience with anything other than stock with myn's. I reinstalled all my apps and kik messenger is on lockdown with autostarts. So therefore it doesn't eat up partial wake time and doesn't open unless I do it manually.

Give any new rom at least 2 days to fully "get settled".
What kernal do you recommend? I'm not too familiar with cm.

Stock, until you get those issues ironed out. "Stock" sounds lame, but CM7s kernel is far from stock
After that, I use savaged-zen with much success. Though everyone will tell you that kernels behave differently with different phones. Spend a week trying a few for like 2 days at a time and see which one you like the most Also, play with the governor settings (under settings/cyanogenmod settings/performance). I personally use the SZ kernel with the "interactive" governor and find it to be the best balance between speed and battery life.
Interactive all the way man!! DATS DA BEST!

So you think now would be a good time to flash another kernal..like savaged Zen?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Flash went you want.. I flashed a savaged kernel right away when I flashed the cm7 rom. I always had good experience with savages kernels. I don't even know how good stock works lol..

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Ha I still have a backup from CM6 lol, one from CM7RC1 and another Cm7rc2 with stock kernel just in case and also have a current one with savagedzen kernel.. I will delete when CM7 becomes stable..lol

I used the same Rom for a week had great battery life with sinister Rom tried cm7 and flashed back to sinister for example my phone has been off the charger less than 10 minutes and its drained 11 percent already.
What's going on? It was so stable.

Search the word battery calibration.
I found switching to sense and aosp a lot messes with the battery stats

Look for viperboys rom in e3d dev. There is battery calibration info in there that I just tried. It takes about 3 cycles to complete but worth it.
Support TrevE !
Well now I'm getting random reboots too I think I just might go to my first nandroid right after I rooted my phone and start over

Flashing a kernal from phone

I am currently running Lithid-cm's HTC EVO 4G Freedom V 0.9 (stock) kernal. I want to find a new one that is great and that I can install straight from my phone. I also could use some directions on how to do it.
TIA
Sent from my Swagged Out Stock EVO
Download your kernel of choice from phone, use some sort of file explorer app to make sure its named PC36IMG.zip and also make sure its on the root of your SD card, then turn your phone off and turn back on holding volume down or hold down power and hit reboot and see if you have a hboot option. After all that volume up when prompted then again. I haven't flashed a new kernel in a while but I think that covers it.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Aside from what he said, all the kernels for Evo are signed. They do not need to be PC36IMGs . Just wipe cache and dalvik, and flash like anything else thru recovery.

I use Savagen-Zen, you could also try Tiamat. Battery life on Savagen- Zen always seems a little better. A quick search will find you lots of links.

Well, I just installed it last night so it might be a few days before I notice the difference in full. As of now, It's a little snappier. It was really easy and quick to install. I was in line at Walmart and did it, by the time I had to pay I was able to use my phone again.

I can say that I have noticed about a 2% battery life increase and about a 5% performance increase. Of course I don't have a lot of apps and I use it light-normal now that I don't use Facebook. I also messed with my http and rstp and that helped with the 3g.

Using Chads myself and am finding it all baked in just right - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411383 and have it on 2 of my 5 Roms within Boot Manager.
