Hello everyone-
This is my first time modding the G2, and I've run into a problem at the last stage of the project. Let me go through what I have done so far to help clarify:
1. Rooted through "rage"
2. gfree -f to full unlock
3. hboot install (confirmed s-off)
4. Factory reset to clear data and settings
5. Clockworkmod Recovery install
6. adb pushed cm_vision_full-85.zip + gapps-hdp-201011 to sdcard
7. Recovery boot > install zip from sdcard > selected cm_vision_full-85.zip > apply > reboot (rinse and repeat for gapps)
*used the "wipe data" setting for the clockworkmod
On reboot, I'm getting a Cyanogenmod boot animation stuck in a loop. Am I missing a step?
Aha! After wiping data and cache in Clockworkmod Recovery, the phone booted after a minute of the logo. PLEASE DISREGARD! Thanks-

Hi,
i'm posting this separately cos i wanted to clearly highlight all the steps i have taken which doesn't appear to be the same as the other posts.
i successfully rooted the phone via unrevoked.
i was attempting to load the following ROM:
[ROM] Pays-ROM Desire Sense v2.3 A2SD++ BraveSoul WLAN N + Tether [12th July 2010] - xda-developers
steps given:
-You need ROOT access to flash this ROM.
-Put your Desire in Recovery Mode
-Fully wipe Data and Cache / wipe Dalvik-cache / wipe SD:ext (with AM Desire Recovery)
-Flash latest ROM from SD Card and if you like it
i think in my naivety i've done something i wasn't supposed to.
i went into recovery:
1. wipe data/factory reset - completed (just thought i'll also mention that i can't see 'dalvik cache'. it just says 'user data')
2. wipe cache partition - completed (i don't think i was supposed to do that )
3.install ZIP from SD card - successful
4. reboot
this reboots into the carrier's splash screen and its just stuck there.
i've tried turning the phone off/on (by removing the battery)
i don't think i made a successful backup every time i try 'back up and restore > restore' it says:
'couldn't find clockworkMod Recovery [version number]
couldn't open directory.
no files found.
please help!
right now i'll take any rom that would easily load without having to do to much..thanks!!
desperately awaiting a reply..
That rom is incredibly outdated. If you boot in to recovery what name do you see? Also do you have a ext partition on the sd?
If you just want to install a rom to get it booting again, install leedroid nonA2SD.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Basically I was running stock 2.2 on my phone and did the usual steps to root it, unrevoked 3 ran all fine clockworkmod recovery flashed fine, booted up first time round fine. But then I flashed the most recent version of super user and now every time I try to boot it just gets to the HTC logo turns itself off and starts again.
I have tried backing up and restoring, wiping data, sd, cache, dalvik and nothign has helped so far. And I can run the RUU for my phone because it wont run unless I am booted into android, please help me ><
SERIOUSLY? You didn't even LOOK.. not going to mention about searching.. There are SO many threads that could have helped you.. but the most obvious one to me would be the big TROUBLESHOOTING one that is right on the top of everything.
Right, sorry I did quickly look but I panicked a little bit. I shall make sure I look more effectively in the future ^^
I would use ADB to flash the old super user apk, or to flash a new rom.

BOOT PROBLEMS
"I just flashed a new ROM, and I get a bootloop.. Help!"*
"I just flashed a new ROM, and it just stays on the HTC screen"
"My phone randomly rebooted itself and now it won't boot"
*This is a fairly common problem, and is solved very easily.
Possible causes of bootloops/ phone stuck on HTC Screen:
- You are S-OFF, and you have not got the correct partition table that is required for the ROM.
- Some ROM's require an SD-EXT partition, you either have not got this or have not done it correctly.
- For whatever reason, the ROM did not install properly.
[1]To fix a bootloop/ stuck on HTC Screen:
[STEP1]- do a battery pull to power off the device (as this is the only way to do so when stuck in a bootloop)
[STEP2]- hold the VOLUME DOWN button and the POWER button to boot into the bootloader
[STEP3]- use the VOLUME UP/DOWN buttons to navigate, and POWER to select. Navigate to RECOVERY.
[STEP4]- select "mounts & storage" and then select the following options
[STEP5]- format boot
[STEP6]- format system
[STEP7]- format data
[STEP8]- format cache
[STEP9]- format sd-ext (IF YOU HAVE IT)
[IF YOU HAVE A BACKUP]
[STEP10a]- go back to the main menu, select "back up & restore", select "restore" and restore the latest working backup.
[IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A BACKUP]
[STEP10b]- go back to the main menu, select "install zip from sdcard", then "choose zip from sdcard", and flash a ROM which you KNOW works. If you have none, try my failsafe: CyanogenMod
- reboot system now
#PHONE STILL DOESN'T BOOT#
[IF YOU USED YOUR BACKUP, OR A ROM THAT IS NOT CYANOGENMOD]
- Repeat the process, and flash cyanogenmod instead of restoring a backup or a different ROM.
[IF YOU ARE USING A RECOVERY THAT IS NOT CLOCKWORKMOD 2.5.0.7]
- Download Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7.zip and place it in your sdcard.
- boot into recovery, select "install zip from sdcard", then "choose zip from sdcard" and choose "recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.zip"
- repeat [1] from [STEP4] onwards

then i flashed from recover this
http://anonym.to/?http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24435867/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
now it keeps rebooting / vibrating between black screen and htc while logo, what have i done?
Have you tried flashing it again? Have you tried searching? have you looked at the troubleshooting guide?
wipe everything
and try again
if u have the same issue ensure u have all requirements for the rom , HBoot/SD-ext etc
if you dont know what am saying
do what Bortak said
read the guide
will try 10b right away, is it ok?

You lose eeeeeeverything...
If you're scared of that, format everything APART FROM DATA, and you will have all your apps etc.. but it may not help you in which case you'll have to format that anyhow
i reflashed it, and now it keeps rebooting all the time...htc screen splah "quietly brilliant"...
only solution now step 5-9?

What do you think? -__-
that's what i was affraid off.
So -
> Was running CM10.1.3, with TWRP 2.5.0.0
> Changed recovery to CWM recovery (recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-d2att)
> Booted to recovery (CWM), created a backup
> Tried to reboot into system... hang on the CM10 Sid logo
Hmmm...
> So, using Odin, I flashed back to TWRP 2.5.0.0
> Reboot into recovery, no problem
> I can still browse the contents of my SD card
> Restore one of my previous CM10 backups + wipe data
> Still stuck at Sid logo
Alright, this doesn't look good
> Wipe data from TWRP
> Odin to stock 4.1.2
> Stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S III boot logo
Uh oh.
At this point, I'm not sure what else to try. I can still get into recovery just fine...
The only thing I can think of now is to do a complete SD card wipe - but that will really suck because I don't have some of my pictures, files, etc. backed up. Can anyone think of a way I can get those off of my phone without the ability to boot into Android at all???
1. Download resources:
a. Download the rom UL USER, leave it there and do nothing to it yet.
b. Download the twrp.zip file https://mega.nz/#!l8BXgaDL!Y1AH5TM9jKI5r6LtEKFN_4Po105glHNR602yVDipfF8 (if you still have twrp installed beforehand)
c. Magisk 20.0 https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v20.0/Magisk-v20.0.zip
2. Proceed:
Do not update the UL USER rom from the device's interface (SYSTEM UI), power off, boot into TWRP. Select install zip in the following order:
a. Rom UL USER
b. Twrp.zip
c. Magisk v20.0 (or exit the main menu, select Advanced, install root also)
Done, exit the main menu select advanced wipe, wipe cache, dalvik.
Reboot the device.
Done.

This did not completely work for me going from .35 to .64. All the steps completed successfully but when I rebooted the phone, Magisk was not installed so I didn't have root. I was able to then boot to TWRP and successfully install Magisk, but I don't know why it didn't work the first time. Anyone else try this? Did it work as intended for you?
One other thing I noticed - TWRP no longer has an option to wipe the cache under wipe > advanced, only for Dalvik/ART cache. Why?
Wish I would have tried this before i updated and lost root, i flashed a root boot.img with fastboot now im bricked and don't know what to do.
EDIT: got twrp did a factory reset and im in now.
