What are the benefits of or reason to upgrade my hboot? I am on .79 now and have never had any issues.
Some ROMs only work with an updated one.
Thanks for the reply. Thats the only thing I've been able to think of too.
I know you need .92 for autobrightness to work in miui and cyanogenmod roms.

What's the best radio for the T-Mobile G2? I've been using the .17 radio and have been getting mediocre wifi signal. Should I use the stock t-mobile G2 radio? Also I have the 82.0000 hboot but it doesn't say I have eng-off. Is there a way to get eng-off without using the stock hboot on the wiki?
Also what hboot do I need when flashing cm7?

Ive ran the 12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26 and now I'm on the 12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17 and to me it seems that the 26.04.02.17 radio is working better for me, about the same with wifi but a little better signal improvement with data over the network. I'm in the Los Angeles CA. area.

The only available ENG Hboot is the one on the XDA Wiki right now. I have the stock ENG. Hboot 0.76.2000 from the Wiki and have no issues with it, I'm able to flash everything that available for the G2, no problems.

You can use any hboot now for CM7 since rom manager released the official CWM recovery 3.0.0.5, it now supports both 2.2 and 2.3 roms. Even before this there were ways to flash the new recovery without the ENG. Hboot. and get Cm7 but now its, pretty straight forward.
Thanks for the quick and clear reply. I already flashed CM7 but with the 82 hboot and I just wanted to make sure I was doing everything properly. As for the radio, I'm gonna update to the new radio 12.28h.60.14 0f_26.06.02.27_M_ and get a new router, still using linksys wrt54g lol.
Also, when flashing new roms, for example CM roms, do they flash the radio? I think some do but im not sure.
Roms never flash a new radio.

Ours don't - only because the dev's don't feel the need to put it in there (no point). Other phones do it though, mostly when a stock upgrade is released (2.1 to 2.2 for instance) and there is also a radio update with it. It's literally a one line script you put in the update_script in order to flash a new radio.
Hello, just need to know when i flash a shipped rom to wildfire s should i make sure the HBOOT version of the ruu is same or higher than the HBOOT version of the phone?
Thanks
Good question. I think it doesn't matter. HTC's official ROM, HBOOT, Radio or whatever updates are designed to work no matter if the device is S-Off or not. As far as I know, it shouldn't matter.
No. The radio takes care about the hboot versions. If you install maybe an old shipped rom with an older hboot which is not supported anymore, the device will bypass hboot installation

Well i plan on flashing my phone with RUU_Marvel_HTC_Asia_WWE_1.35.707.3_Radio_47.10 .35.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_188906_signed.exe
Is this rom ok ie. will not have any HBOOT problems? Also, i bought my phone from the UAE, how do i know if the phone is compatible with the ruu im flashing with?
if you install a complete ruu the hboot is mostly updated along with the rom. so donÄt worry about it.

Ok thanks for the info..
hi all , i have a problem with my one x.
i'm trying to update to JB but every time when i change the hboot from 1.12 to greater ones - 1.28 to 1.39 the onex is stuck to boot loop.
i can revert to 1.12 due tot the fact that i have S-OFF and i can also install non sense JB - as CM10 but, i would like to install the official JBRUU or at least some other custom rooms that are with the official version.
any ideas, cause i'm out of it?

Lucky you having S-OFF. S-ON is a pain.
Have you only updated HBOOT? I think you might also need a ROM and kernel that are compatible with the newer firmware

with 1.12 i was able to successfully install CM 10, nightly builds, but as soon as i have update my Hboot no other JB sense ROM has worked.
The only way to make my phone work again was to run the Europe RUU ICS 1.20.401.1 which revert my HBOot to 1.12.
Any suggestion?
I may be wrong here, as I'm new to HTC. But doesn't being s-off, as in a super-CID mean you can use any RUU? i.e. running a jb RUU would contain the correct Hboot.
I've quite a few questions regarding hboot and base versions, and would very much like some teachings from the community.
Recently, I've been quite confused regarding the hboot version(like 1.26) and rom "base" version(like 3.18.xxxxx)
With the ICS>JB update, it appeared that you must get the official OTA first in order to flash JB Roms, is it because the OTA also updated the hboot version?
If that's the case, are rom "base"s inherently restricted to certain hboot versions?
Are those ICS>JB OTAs a rare thing? Meaning that in most cases the only thing OTA-ed is a ROM/kernel itself, and nothing else? Will it benefit me to, say, go back to stock, get the official OTA for 3.19, then root/unlock bootloader again to flash new/upcoming 3.19 ROMs?
I know it's quite a few questions, but I would really be grateful for any answers! Thank you all in advance
I will give back what this community though me

I know some ota's update the hboot version, but not all. Hboot can be updated via RRU's too. The rru must (!!) match your cid (carrier id). There are plenty information on this.

What do you mean by rom base? Some custom Roms require a hboot version higher than x. Ice cold jelly (past version 2.5 I think) cannot run on hboot version 1.28 or lower. Why in details I don't know. I imagine it's like installing Adobe master collection on windows 98..

Thanks TwinAdk, I'll add a little someting if you don't mind

Not necessarily ROMs, but kernels. The base version of the kernel source (0.99, 1.29, 3.14, etc, etc) is the key.
If your kernel is based on 3.14 for example, you need hboot higher or equal to 1.28.

Depends on your phone's CID... is it carrier branded?
Meaning that in most cases the only thing OTA-ed is a ROM/kernel itself, and nothing else? Will it benefit me to, say, go back to stock, get the official OTA for 3.19, then root/unlock bootloader again to flash new/upcoming 3.19 ROMs?

If you are on 3.14 base already and provided that you use custom ROMs, upgrading would not benefit at all because it won't update the firmware (hboot) You can flash 3.19-based ROMs on 3.14-based phone no problem.
Thanks guys, you've pretty much answered all my questions so easily-understandably(if there's such a word)
TToivanen, about the ICS>JB OTAs, I was actually referring to OTAs whereby hboots are updated as well. Does this like usually only happen when there's a name-change update , like Gingerbread>ICS, ICS>JB, or JB>KLP? Or are there no fixed patterns and any random version updates could also have hboot updates?
There was a hboot update in the following versions of Android:
4.0.3 > 4.0.4 (mainver 2.17)
4.0.4 > 4.1.1 (mainver 3.14)
The latest OTAs 3.18 and 3.18 did not update hboot so you'll have to wait till KLP to get an update.
Of course you can update the hboot in methods other than OTA if you wish.
Hi, I've decided to go for the stock ROM due to a lot of problems i'm having with my HOX.
I already have Stock Boot.img, Recovery.img, but I am missing the Hboot.
According to the RUU Software my Hboot (Which I upgraded a year ago to 1.39) I need an older Hboot in order to run the RUU.
I've searched for a lot of sites and forums and don't seem to find a Hboot 0.96 (Stock) anywhere.
I'd appreciate if some has or knows where can I get it,
Thank you in advance!

you can't downgread your hboot unless you are S-OFF. Restore nandroid backup with your main version numbers or flash custom sense 5 rom close to stock like MaximusHD, ARHD or rom in my signature

Just went back to ARHD, well it seems the end of this device is near. Thank you!
I've the same problem. I'm on HBoot 1.72 and I want get back to SlimBean 4.2.2 because with that ROM my HOX runs best. If I try to install SlimBean Build 8 I get the message that only HBoot <= 1.39 is supported. Is there any way to get back on Slim 4.2.2?
I've solved my problem without downgrading HBoot or something like this. You can simply edit the updater-script from the ROM and add HBoot 1.72 as possible solution. Now I'm running Slim 4.2.2 on HBoot 1.72 without any problems.
