I found this gif online somewhere and made a boot animation out of it for a friends backflip.
I haven't tried it on my G1, but I believe they have the same resolution.
this is actually my first boot animation
I'll try on my Magic
I successfully downloaded the boot animation, but i have one major problem. It seems like the phone isn't booting and its just cycling the animation over and over again. So if anyone has any help please so i don't have to reroot my phone.
Oh and i have tried to install another boot animation but this one seems to be over righting it and it wont let me change it.
Awesome boot animation btw
Edit: this thing imo bricked my phone....

If you can get into recovery, your phone is not bricked.
How long have you waited for the phone to boot up properly? I do not know if this is your case because I don't know exactly what you did, but certain flashes/cache cleans require a full 15 minutes to boot sometimes.
Should this NOT be your case, than a logcat would explain what is wrong and causes your phone to cycle indefinitely. Do you know how to make a logcat?
And, nonetheless, if you want to remove this bootanimation and see what happens, you should just have to delete /data/local/bootanimation.zip (via adb since your phone isn't booting completely).

I don't see how a boot animation can brick you're phone, theoretically, maybe theres too many frames for the g1 and that's the problem. Still, I don't think it can overwrite you're other boot animations, it sounds to my like you're doing something wrong.
I would follow hrk's instructions.
worst case scenario: reflash you're rom or a different rom, you're phone will not actually be bricked.
also: I've also tried this bootscreen on a Cliq XT for somebody else, No issues there.
it would be great if Adamsville MITM could get back to me on whether it worked on his mytouch
yea it worked perfectly... no lags in it or anything
heres a screenshot
Thanks adamsville. I guess I'll post this into the htc magic forum as well.
especially that there was no slowdown because when I tried it on a motorola backflip and a cliq Xt, they both played the animation really fast.
I just tried this on my g1 and it's working great, although there was some slowdown at the beginning, smoothed out in the middle and then very bad lag at the end, but it ended up fully booting as expected.
Slow as **** (booting wise) Using yoshi ginger 5.1 Takes over 10 mins to boot compared to the original boot screen included with the rom or other boot screens for that matter.
No idea why.....quite disappointed as it's a nice boot screen
that's odd.
I've noticed that the animation plays really slow on my G1, but I don't see why it would take it longer to boot.
did you just clear you (dalvic)cache? that makes it take much longer to boot the first time.
I think I should delete some frames when I have the time, that might help

THis is a very simple batch file to assist you in flashing a boot screen
it still uses the same files as before its just put together in one section for ease of use as you can see
thanks to xMemphisx for supplying the required files for this to work

1.Extract BSF3000 and open the BSF300 Folder
2. Run CreateG1Splash.exe and choose your boot image (320 x 480 PNG for best results)
3. run the bootflash.bat and follow the on screen steps
* Reboot into fastboot
* IF you're on the older spl then u have 2 screens to flash so you're gonna follow step 3 and 4. and reboot
*If you're on the newest spl the you're just going to flash 1 screen by following step 2 and reboot
4. VIOLA!!! u have a new bootscreen with no copying and pasting

I don't get it. What is classified as the "special" SPL, and what is the "other" spl's? Create a list please .
I'm using Haykuro's Danger SPL...I assume that's "special"?
im assuming special is haykuros and other is any other spl
grr...I hate having a Mac! lol
Anyway someone could setup something like this for linux or Mac users. Pretty please.
Yes sorry for any confusion ....haykuros spl is the special spl
Where is it pulling mysplash.rgb565 from? Says mine cannot load it.
Edit: Fixed the problem. I placed the .bat file in my Android SDK Tools folder, intended to work next to ADB. Didn't know you could run the .bat from the extracted zip folder itself.
Problem: Haykuro's SPL only flashes the first screen, the T-Mobile G1 screen, correct?

if u created ur own bootscreen it should be pulling it from the folder
Alright. Got everything to work. Might want to flash back to the original G1 screen, because having that first T-Mobile screen is crucial to me.
On a side note, a couple of apps and widgets broke upon rebooting. Some widgets wouldn't load, other apps lost data connections. Ran a fix_permissions, everything works fine now
Curious question, does anyone have the original "T-Mobile G1" boot screen?

i love this its alot easier than b4 IMO
nice work dom. It was quite a bit easier this way. I noticed after flashing the danger spl that i could only change one boot screen. Anyone know why that is? Not super important since the first one only last a couple seconds anyways.

"danger" SPL only has 1 boot screen to flash, there's a thread about it somewhere, think i read it in the old thread somewhere
note about the tool, VERY fast, VERY easy, even a n00b like me could do it. If you have "danger" SPL you will need updated USB drivers, but i'm sure you know that already
The script litterally is, put your image into the folder, run the bat, press 2 <enter> (for special SPL that is)and you're done, really couldn't be simpler if you tried
I'm glad everyone likes it
my adb work find, but for some reason this script stay at wating for device, any input?
I didn't make the original work. I just modified the information so that it tailored the specs of the G2.
Code:
adb devices (optional, only to see if adb sees your phone)
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
(if this doesn't work, try pushing to /system/media also)
Now to test if it worked type:
Code:
adb shell bootanimation
<press ctrl+c to quit>
Info on BIOS is for G2.

Okay...WE NOW HAVE SOUND!!
First off, thanks to mrdaviso for script and instructions from spiicytuna.
My apologies to amazinglarry311, credit goes to him/her for the enablesound script.
enablebootsound scripts can be found here:
Enable Sound Boot
Here's how I did it:
Flash zip file from recovery.
reboot
Place android_audio.mp3 on sdcard root (change name of android_audio.zip to android_audio.mp3)
adb shell(I am assuming you are root)
enablebootsound(mine wasn't already enabled)
newbootsound
You can also use this script to install bootanimation now. ( I still prefer the old way)
place bootanimation.zip on sdcard root
newbootanim
A "Thanks" will do.
Nice! I'll def. give this boot animation a shot! Thanks for sharing.
I like it but... on part1, youre missing several images causing a blank bootup at the end of the bios animation. you might wanna add some more in part1 to remedy that.

Do I have to divide the number of images in each folder evenly?

looks great! I've been looking for something to snazzy to replace the generic g2 logo and have been too lazy to look into how to make my own
very nice
I installed it and the first bootup it froze on me at the android logo screen part. Second time it started hanging a little bit after where it froze before... then it went black screened and eventually showed my home screen. Weird...
Edit: tried it once more and it's frozen :/
I am such a nerd this totally made my day! Freaking sweet boot animation. I don't think I will ever change it. My G2 is running so fresh now. Good work yo

That's not really booting though, that's a trick where it doesn't shut down, it just suspends and switches off. A proper boot takes a lot longer.
Can someone post screenshots of this?

I think he was refering to hot reboot that the desire z does standard which isnt true rebooting. Its possible to perform one on the G2 via script or an app called Hot Reboot. While the phone is hot rebooting... it will skip parts when booting. So there is no real concern when adding a custom boot animation.

you have to replace it with the "bootanimation.zip" in you're rom.

The Droid X has a much higher resolution than the mytouch 3g, so if you tried to set this as your boot animation it'll look weird.
I'm not exactly sure what'll happen, but I'm guessing that there will be a large black frame around the animation.
If you still want to do it I can write up instructions.
do you know how to do adb?

I believe you're trying to flash it.
That is not how you apply a boot animation.
I've gotten no complaints so far other than slower boot ups on the G1, not sure about the MyTouch since I don't have one to test it myself.

Hi.
A silly question, how do i put this in my phone? I have a HTC Magic 32A with CM7 ROM
Cumps
Hello all,
I've been putting together my own little boot animation from a favorite xkcd.com comic of mine, but I haven't gotten it to work yet. I've followed all the correct steps (as far as I can tell) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708316, obviously changing the resolution in desc.txt to 480 800 to fit my G2, but all I keep getting is a blank screen that lasts a really long time during bootup. Any ideas?
Please feel free to use my boot animation if we get it working - it's pretty cool! A scrolling picture of the universe.
It is a scrolling image of this from top to bottom.

Anybody? I'm getting shoved to the bottom of the forum here haha. Sorry for the double post.
hey matey, i dont know much about this but ive just flicked through it quickly.
have you made sure your rooted.
have you made sure you pushed the following using the terminal on your android phone.
./adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
./adb push Android_Audio.mp3 /data/local/
have you made sure you pushed the following using the adb command line on your computer.
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
adb push Android_Audio.mp3 /data/local/
have you done any of these in the common issues?
Common Issues:
If you compress the archive, your Slide will not be able to access the appropriate files and you will get a blank screen at boot. The second most common error that will also result in a blank screen at boot is zipping a folder containing your desc.txt and part0 folder. These two must be immediately within the bootanimation.zip. When using Keka, remember to exclude Mac resource forks under advanced preferences
this probably wont help but i just thought id let you double check hope you get it working. maybe try posting a question on that thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708316
Thanks for all the advice mate!
I actually got it working with a better resolution and more images, so it's a bit smoother - I've attached the file if you want to check it out.
I was messing around with this a lot last night, and I actually ran into a boot loop that ran from my splash screen to around 3/4 of the animation. I didn't even know that was possible - having a boot loop that wasn't just looping on the splash screen. Luckily I had a backup of the day before, so it wasn't a big deal... I just didn't know that messing with the desc.txt file could cause that issue.
The boot loop occurred when I had it set to repeat the part1 folder because I have some blank screen at the end of the animation.
Here's the file (it's a bit large so I put it in my Public folder on dropbox): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3222175/bootanimation.zip
Also, on my G2, the boot animation works either in /system/media or in /data/local!
LOVE IT. wish it scrolled a little smoother, though - I'll take a stab at editing it tonight if I don't get caught up in st patty's day shenanigans.
thanks!

Hi, i was wondering is there any way to change the new boot splash for LG G3. Nothing major really, i just like the new font of the 'powered by android' logo in the bottom for the latest lollipop stock bootsplash. The old kitkat powered android font is kinda ugly.

Splash screens are almost always a part of theboot.img itself. Bootanimations are easy to make and use but the splash screen requires an edited boot.img HOWEVER, I am still looking into it because it seems lg has done something fishy with it. I've built a kernel and modified the .rle file but the splash remained.

There was a way back when i had nexus 5 to change the splash screen...but you need to edit the bootloader....G3 has a locked bootloader so i don't think you can do it!!
well, recently a new root method allow users to root lollipop.
ive tried flashing stock v20h and hooray i manage to get the splash screen above on the latest firmware and manage to root it with the new method. Lollipop root method
the only downside is there is not custom recovery compatible yet. (show up error when flash) hence could not flash custom rom with the rooted stock lollipop
if any different information otherwise, do share =)
