Ok so rom manager was telling me that there was a update for clockworkmod, i was on 2.5.0.1, i was very happy with it and never had any issues. I wanted to go to amon so I could back up my wimax just in case. So I did that.
When I went back to clock work it installed some newer buggy version and i was unable to get back to 2.5.0.1. Only other versions.
I wanted to flash a new kernel, i have not been able to, nothing but bootloops.
I'm currently on amon, but still get bootloops, i found 2.5.0.1 as a zip file but when I flash it I just go to it like normal but it doesn't stick, when I go back to recovery i still get amon, until I flash that zip, then I'm back to. 2.5.0.1.
But flashing a kernel through either recoveries I still get bootloops.
How can I get back to 2.5.0.1 for good so its the main recovery?
Any thoughts or opinions?
Yes im wiping dal and cache.
I think something is messed in recovery.
The only way I get the phone to boot normal is if I reflash the rom im using.

If possible, flash the Rom you are currently using. Once that is done, load up clockwork manager and switch back to clockwork's recovery. Once you do that, then flash the zip you had to get back to your older version of clockwork.
I had a similar problem (without constant bootloops though).

well im 99% sure this is why my phone is having issues.
when i updated my rom manager, it told me to update CWM, so i did.
well that was like a week ago, and i wanted to flash a new kernel, did that, CWM was slower then usual, seemed buggy. well i flashed the kernel, nothing but bootloops.
fine, whatever.
so i reflashed my rom, phone was working again, i go back into the buggy recovery, flash a kernel. bootloops.
never before have i had this issue.
i really want to go back to 2.5.0.1.
the current version on my phone and rom manager says is current is 2.6.0.1
anyway know how i can do that?
i found a .zip from the net that says its that version, but it wont install.
perhaps because im using a newer version?
so since my phone is in BOOTLOOPS once again on its own for no reason (no kernel flash either) i think im going to have to flash to amon ra, then flash the 2.5.0.1 zip.
sound like what i should do?
Alright,
so what i did worked.
i used rom manager to flash Amon, then when inside Amon, i flashed the 2.5.0.1 zip, and all is well!
feels good to be back in the "safe zone"
lol
Many people have been having issues with Rom Manager.

I am having some issues. Don't know what is the problem. I nandroid to a sense rom and changed prl. Switched back to CM7 nightly 64 nandroid. Flashed tiamat's latest aosp kernel and did the viperboy's battery mod. Afterwards, my phone was stuck in boot loop. I went into recovery and there's nothing there. In the bottom of the screen, it says Build: RA-supersonic-v2.3, but the options aren't visible at all. And now, there's no way for me to boot the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Can you not reflash amon RA via the bootloader?

Try pulling the battery, and reflashing your recovery, using a PC36IMG.

I was able to flash to Amon RA 2.3 (I was originally on 2.1). However, that didn't fix the issue. Now, I just did a PC36IMG.zip for a stock unrooted. Hopefully this works and I can get back to root.

It sounds like the recovery isn't being flashed correctly... are you sure that it is being flashed properly?
I loaded a backup of CM7 and when it rebooted it went into a bootloop and I cant get into recovery. I've tried everything even flashing CWM again and also the stock ROM image. Still bootloop!
Please help
You didnt brick it, if you bricked it, it wouldnt start. You should still be able to get into recovery, by holding the power button and volume at the same time, and getting into Hboot, then go to recovery. Im also guessing it happened because you didnt whipe cache or data before you did this. First time i ever installed a new rom i got a bootloop,
Thank you for responding. I cant get into recovery it starts bootlooping once I select recovery. I tried loading the PB image of CWM and I also tried flashing the stock RUU. Cant get past HBOOT or initial bootloop. I CAN get into fastboot ADB though. Tried flashing a backup system.img, boot.img, data.img but boot.img said error
Your welcome, im not perfect at all this so excuse me a bit lol. So your saying when you select recovery, it boots up normally to the splash screen, or am i wrong? If your able to flash things them im pretty sure your able to get into recovery. Maybe also try another version of CM7? Transferring it to your phone.
No I select recovery in HBOOT and it goes straight to the white HTC INCREDIBLE screen and begins the bootloop process. I've pushed the CWM 3.0.0.8 in a pb13img file and still wont go into recovery. I cant get the phone past HBOOT
Thats really really weird that it wont go into recovery and it starts the boot. Hopefully someone can come with some extra assistance. It isnt bricked tho, i know that. So did you try formating data and cache then before doing anything either?
No I was busy and messed up. applied a backup without wiping data/cache. Came back to a powered off phone. Tried turning it on and it was bootlooping. I cant do anything now. Even if I can get S-ON i'll just get a replacement
There's a data wipe option in hboot, have you tried that?

Goto Doug piston's web site and follow the go back to stock. You should be able to put the stock RUU on the root of your sd card named pb31img (not sure the exact file name but it is on dougs site). When you load in HBOOT, it should recognize the file and install. If I am not mistaken, this will unroot your phone as well.
http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=108
Pb31img file is there.
I tried the stock rom PB31IMG.zip and it continues to bootloop. If I cant get it fixed I want to at least get S-On
Probably aren't gonna be able to get S-ON cause that needs to be done in recovery..
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
There is also the unrevoked forever s-on tool which you flash through recovery
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah cant get to recovery so I'm boned.
I got VZW to send me a replacement and also got Asurion to get my an Inc2. Not sure which to send back. Free replacement with a gamble getting caught S-On, or $99 free upgrade to Inc2
what radio were you running
try flashing alternate recovery?
i also seem to remember there being a way to root through adb isnt there a way to unroot like that too?
I tried amon ra and a another one no difference. I also tried everything I could adb wise to flash different systems and erase everything. Im running the new GB radio
I may be wrong but I don't think you can apply the RUU with that radio installed. Go back to the stock radio and I think you may be able to flash ythe RUU successfully.

I got excited thinking there was a way to unbrick because of a step I missed. So I went to make sure the radio was right. I HAD the GB Leak 2.15.10.05.06
Right now in HBoot it shows 2.15.00.07.28
I know its not considered a brick because it still turns on but there is NOTHING I can do to get it out of bootloop or past HBoot
hmm new GB radio this has been happening with thunderbolt users to.....but in greater numbers.....I'd advise against using the GB leaked radio...
Your backup. Rec2.x. and now. 3.x?

PLEASE HELP! iv searched and searched! but im stuck in a WEIRD CASE!
after i use ODIN to flash a custom kernal with CWM it works fine.. i can boot up CMW but when i FLASH ANY ROM, after boot it loads the sprint screen.. and the "stock" looking home, BUT i cant go back to CMW. it goes to STOCK recovery.
WEIRD?
and NOW after i successfully flashed one of starburst early roms, it boots his rom (but i lose CMW! but i think im still rooted) and must flash CMW kernal to flash something else. so basically i can only use CMW ONCE!
and now i want to flash starburst latest rom but every time i try to flash it after using odin to flash kernal it goes BACK TO OLD starburst!
i dono whats going on.. seems like i cant flash anything or root phone properly.
ANY help would be appreciated.
i used (in odin):
Eg30 PLUS
STOCK CWM5
and i used the FORMAL ALL in CMW before any flash
Format all? I don't remember seeing that option in CWM but either way I'd stop using it. Just use 'wipe data/factory reset' or manually format the data partition.
If you're formatting everything(?) then you could be wiping the partition containing CWM.
Suppose to b formatting /system.. When going from one rom to the other
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
sorry i ment to say im using Calkulin FORMAL ALL.. its formats whats necessary before a flash
I think i had the same problem. Once flashed first kernel i could NOT get cwm to come up. Only nandroid recovery. I think what finally got everything to work right was that when i flashed the kernel again, i took out the sd card. I think that when i was flashing the kernel it was getting mixed up between internal and external sd's. Haven't had any touble since.
Just reinstall same kernel but take out sd card first.

I successfully rooted my phone a few days ago using the Revolutionary method and flashed ClockworkMod Recovery without a problem. Then I flashed CyanogenMod 7.1.0 again without a problem. I noticed my gps has been having an issue detecting my location so I figured I should flash the nandroid for my stock rooted android 2.3.3 rom and see if the issue still exists. My main problem is that I can't boot into recovery. Apparently I have the latest version of Clockwork. I try to boot into recovery using different methods and I keep ending up at the white screen that says 'Revolutionary' in pink at the top with the 3 skateboarding androids at the bottom. I try to get to recovery from that screen also still with no success. It just reboots into that screen. I was thinking I may have to use the ruu to unroot my Evo (I rather find an alternative solution). How can I regain my ability to boot into recovery? Any help would be much appreciated...

If grab the pc36img for amon_ra, throw it in the root of your SD, using a card reader in a computer, get into hboot and let it install. Then try to get into recovery. F clockwork anyway.....90% of the peeps around here having problems are running that recovery

Turn off your phone, then when turning it on hold the volume rocker in the down position, you will then boot into hboot settings, hboot will automatically check for the update file(PC36IMG)after its done, scroll to recovery and enter that way,if you still cant get into recovery, you will need to download and reinstall the latest revolutionary root tool,i recommend using "TeamWin Recovery Project" i've never had a problem with it.
Just to let you know, guys, TWRP v2 is out! I'll post the link to Amon Ra. You can find the link to TWRP 2 in my sig.

I was actually going to go the amon ra route because i was familiar with it while I had a HTC Hero. But TWRP v2 caught my attention and I decided to go that route. So far so good as far as I can tell. I made a nandroid backup. Thanks. Any tips or info I should know about using TWRP?
And 1 more thing. I have a nandroid backup from when I had clockwork recovery. I should still be able to flash that back up right?

Nope you can't flash your CWM backup since your on TWRP. You would have to flash back to the version of CWM that you made the backup with

Man that sucks. I need to be able to access that particular nandroid. Thats my stock backup right after I rooted my phone. Ok so I can flash back to clockwork, restore my nandroid, then go back to TWRP and make a backup compatible with TWRP?

Clockworkmod.com . Also I believe revolutionary gives you the latest version so just flash the latest CWM for the evo4g

I installed a new recovery after i installed revolution, because i also had recovery issues. The version should be at the top of the recovery screen.I didnt like rom manager too much, for some reason it gives me problems.
They say that this version of Amon can be used to restore clockwork backups. I haven't tried it with clockwork myself because I avoids clockworkmod.
Thanks for the help everyone. Everything is gravy now. I'm happy with TWRP. I do have a question for making a backup. By default in TWRP, the 1st 3 boxes are checked up for when attempting to make a backup. Do any of you guys ever check the other boxes (Recovery, cache, .android_secure) and if so, why? Also, when you attempt to wipe before restoring, which items do you guys wipe? Any other tips or suggestions about this recovery would appreciated too.
I backup everything except cache.
