[Q] welcome "user" boot animation - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've spent much of the morning searching to no avail. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
I want to make a custom boot animation that is simply a toast box that says "Welcome Will......One moment please." Or something such.
I want it kinda like Myn's boot, except my words instead of "warm2.2" Is there a simply way to do this other than learning how to create custom boot screen animations?

As far as I know, cause I have done the same searching, the only way is to learn how to create a custom boot animation. Or you can ask one of the awesome devs here to make on for you like nugglyunlimited or stoney 666. They have done great work for me in the past on splash screen and helping with boot animations. Hope this helps

I thought it would be easy. On warm 2.2, the boot screen looks like a system generated "toast" box. In Warm there is no animations really. So perhaps there is a config file somewhere that has the words "warm2.2" (and whatever else the the message says).

No, you need to modify the bootanimation.zip file. It essentially just contains a bunch of PNGs that are shown in succession to create an "animation".

There is no bootanimation file on myn's. At least not in system/media...
I am actually on mikfroyo right, bit I looked inside Myn's Rom.zip and didn't see a boot animation file.
I know where they are at and how to change the .png....I just don't see it in Myn's Rom. That is why I was thinking a script that runs his message at boot "Warm2.2"

[Q] Custom Boot Animation How-To?

The search feature on xda hasn't been working for me, so I was hoping someone could direct me to a thread that explains creating custom boot animations for the G2. I am familiar with the process on the G1 and I have broken down the contents of others' files, but I'm still poking in the dark and don't want to mess things up.
Thanks

You didn't have to root to change the lockscreen. You can fully customize it with Widgetlocker. It's a few bucks, but more than worth it. Look it up & check out the WL themes thread as well, there's some great stuff there.
I wouldn't base my rom on the bootanimation & lockscreen, as both can easily be changed. To change the bootanimation, you either need a flashable zip specific for your rom, knowledge of adb, or Root Explorer or another root-level file explorer. Find the boot animation you want to use and download it. If it isn't a flashable zip, you'll need to know where your rom stores the boot animation. On Sense based roms, the boot animation is stored in system/customize/resource. With Root Explorer (or an alternative) change the name of the original boot animation, and move the one you want to that folder, ensuring it's named bootanimation.zip then set permissions.
There are threads with lists of boot animations available to download, or apps that allow you to browse/install from their list.
If you're having trouble flashing through recovery, I suggest switching to Amon Ra. Whatever you tried to flash was probably amend scripted. Once you've switched recoveries, remember to do a backup!
I also suggest learning more about being rooted before making any significant changes. Know what & why you're doing something before you do it. Good luck & have fun

[Q] Boot Animation Puzzle

First post, but I believe I have done due diligence in reading up on this issue.
I really love reading the posts and have found several of them useful, but I just haven't done a lot of posting... until now.
Does anyone else hate that stupid Sprint 4G animation????
I recently flashed MikG and the only thing that I don't love about this rom is the boot animation. It has the standard Sprint animation. I see there are plenty of other cool animations, so I wanted to update this.
I went and renamed the sprint spc_bootanimation.zip and have placed several different boot animation zips in the system/customize/resource folder (one after the other). Sprint animation goes away, but no matter which version of the bootanimation.zip I put in it's place, I get the same results. My boot animation is always a black screen with small light letters on it spelling "android". There is kind of a cloud animation scrolling behind the letters. Always the same no matter which bootanimation.zip I put in place.
I've tried the adb push method, the boot replacer program, and just copying the file to the proper location (several different files in fact) (using explorer v1.0 folder is mounted r/o) with the same results. I found a cool one on the collection page that was flashable, but it ended up having an error in the code and aborted.
Gotta get rid of that Sprint sales advertisement and get some cool looking animation that you guys have cooked up!
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

That's the default ANDROID animation. Aosp. Find a boot that flashes or Google uot theme kitchen and make your own file to flash; just choose the boot animstion
Gimme a couple a days to come up with a new sig that is cool.
I am running that same rom. No problems changing the boot animation. I push rom> reboot> power down > push boot animation located on sd card in recovery>
here is the honeycomb boot animation I am using:
Okay have it figured out now.....
Had the file going in the correct location. Needed to modify the permissions of the file to match the other files in that folder & renamed the file "spc_bootanimation.zip" in lieu of "bootanimation.zip". Working great now.
Thanks for all of your assistance!
Loving this ROM!
I found out you just need to have it named spc_bootanimation.zip

[Q] Boot animation running crazy fast after slight edit....?!?!?

Hello, all. I am a bit stuck on something and hope someone can help me. A while back I modified one of those BIOS boot animations to match the info on my Evo, and today I modified it to reflect my ROM change.
After editing, I got all the separate pictures back together and put them into an uncompressed ZIP file like I did before and put it back in place of the old boot animation, the only trouble is now when the animation runs, it seems like it is going about 2x as fast as it should.
I didn't decrease the number of pictures/frames and when you watch it, the actual animation is going crazy fast. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Increase the number of frames?
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.

[Q][SOLVED] Phone locking up with modified boot animation

I have an S3 with a rooted stock ROM and I started toying with changing the standard boot animation. I used the process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897969 with success. I downloaded several animations with ROM Toolbox and everything worked fine. I then modified one and it worked as well. I modified another but did not keep an eye on the final size of the zip file and I noticed later it was much too large. It locked my phone up at the start of the animation sequence and I had to flash the disable zip file. After flashing the enable zip file I noticed that it would not accept any modified or custom bootanimation files including the one that had previously worked. Stock ones downloaded through ROM Toolbox still work. I have gone over the files thoroughly but don't see any problems. I have tried something as simple as extracting and repacking a stock animation to a NANDROID restore with no success. I have also placed it manually in the /data/local folder instead of the app with no success either. Does anyone have a clue what may be going on?
Did you try Flashing the Enable zip file again ?
Yes. I did that after flashing the disable zip, rebooting and removing the bootanimation file. Since it locked up the only animation that works are downloaded stock ones from ROM Toolbox. It would even lock up on a stock one that I rezipped with no alterations. I have used both Winzip and 7 zip.
Are you using the right compression level? It has to be set to "store", anything else will cause it to not show/work.
Weeeeeell. I feel like an idiot. I read right over that part of the instructions. Cue rolling of the eyes. It makes sense though as it needs to be kept simple for the boot process. I tested some with both zip programs and they work. Odd the first one worked though. Thank you for pointing this out.

No problem, if it's any higher (like you said) the OS would have to spend a lot of CPU power reading it, and thats just not practical to do at boot nonetheless
Just a little further of an explanation since you were already hinting at it
Anyway, glad you got it solved, have fun playing with boot anims, it's very enjoyable
